This is hands down my favorite place to get coffee! It's such a nice break from Starbucks. The coffee is great but the atmosphere is better! Check out the downstairs if you have a larger group that may get loud, or if you want a more private conversation with a friend. The upstairs also has a great vibe. This place is just such a gem! Does the review of someone who has been to a restaurant more than a couple hundred times count more or less than a regular review? Out of the hundreds of sandwiches I've eaten at Immaculate, I've only had one bad experience: the tuna and sardines special. If they ever have it again and you partake, it will be the single fishiest experience of your life. All other items are excellent, with special nods to anything with their honey mustard on a croissant(such as the smoked Virginia ham and cheese) and the absurdly meaty consumption salad. The blended mocha coffee ( I think that's what it's called) was really good. It wasn't a sugar bomb like Starbucks fraps. The down stairs atmosphere makes it a good spot to chill with your friends during the day. I haven't tried their food items yet but when I do I will give another review for the food. read more

I absolutely adore IMMAC. I find myself here to often for a latte or cup of coffee. It's a great place right on the outskirts of campus. It's never too loud and the coffee is strong. The crowd is mostly business professionals with the occasional undergrad or grad student. It's a great place for a meeting or just to get some work done. They have a great breakfast and lunch menu. Personally I like the create your own oatmeal in the mornings or create your own grits. The portions are big and satisfying. As for lunch, they have daily specials (they sell out quick) so amke sure to get there early if you want to get your hands on one. read more

Love this place. It can get super crowded at times, and during lunch can take bit of a wait for your food. But it's all worth it because they have magic pasta salad! I have tried times over to re-create that pasta salad to no avail. Smoked turkey veggie is my favorite. When it's soup season, it's on. Best tomato basil soup in town. Also, best iced mochas in town. They use powdered Ghiradelli chocolate and blend it. (No crappy syrup I have to stir in with my straw.) Those mochas are amazing. So amazing that almost every day mid morning I go and get one. If you're in a hurry, best to call ahead and place your order. Even if you're standing right outside on the sidewalk. read more

You can sit inside which is a huge plus. The chicken salad on croissant was amazing and warm. Full of tender chicken, fresh green apples, and almonds. There are plenty of outlets in case you need to get some work done. The only thing I would have loved is a spot for honey, napkins, forks, etc. for customers. This coffee shop has great sandwiches, soups and salads! They roast the coffee there and everything tastes homemade. I eat here at least once a week and would especially recommend whatever happens to be the special of the day. Some Wednesdays they have Bahn Mi sandwiches and they are amazing. The Greek salad (add smoked turkey) is a staple of mine. The pasta salad side is beloved by everyone who is a regular and the Senegalese peanut soup is outstanding. The atmosphere is cozy - some of the seating is made up of old church pews. The line can be slow, but food comes out of the kitchen at a good rate. I can always get in and out during my lunch hour. Coffee tasted like it had been in the pot too long or locally roasted beans over-roasted...this applied to both the Guatemalan as well as the Sumatra! Lunch was fresh and healthy but a bit on the skimpy side with at best one ounce of chicken on my grilled chicken salad. If this is considered the best local coffee place in Columba, this didn't say much for the state of coffee in this college town and state capital! Best espresso drinks in Columbia, perhaps anywhere, as well as the best atmosphere of any cafe I've ever spent time in. This place is unfortunately only open on weekdays, 7:30 to 6, to cater to the university and state house crowd, and has a different unique special sandwich every day. Try the Bahn Mi if it's the right day, their version of a Vietnamese street sandwich. Amazing. Their salads are big, the pasta salad with fresh made garlicky balsamic vinaigrette and parmesan is sooo good, their soups (during cooler weather only) are different every day and delicious. My favorites from their menu are the Roast Beef Gorgonzola (add horseradish sauce, yum!), the Consumption Salad (comes with turkey, ham, roast beef, or tailored to your request), the Greek Salad, and their Tuna Salad. All of their dressings are made in house. Unlike another reviewer, I have an intense affection for their occasional sardine and tuna sandwich special, and I think a lot of other people do, too, since it's always sold out before their lunch hour is over. Try their Americano or their iced latte for a taste of how special this place is. All coffee is roasted on-site and can be bought ground or whole bean, though they run out quickly. Unlike most cafes, the espresso extraction process is on display for all to see, though sometimes their ancient espresso machine seems on the verge of dying altogether. Seems like much of the staff has been there for years and knows just about everyone who walks in the door. During lunch expect a wait, but know that it's worth it. Call ahead to grab and go. My biggest criticism by far is that they close so early and aren't open on weekends. Insane considering they're next door to an amazing theater who doesn't start showing until 7pm. One of my absolute favorite coffee shops. Before my life was as busy as it is now, I was in here at least three times a week. I don't normally eat here so I can't say much about the food, but the coffee (and service) is always great. They have the best iced mochas in Columbia, and some of the nicest baristas. Today I purchased a bag of fresh ground coffee, and Rain offered to grind one half finely, and the other half coarse so I could use the coffee in both my french press and coffee pot. It was a small gesture but made my day. Make sure you check out the downstairs. They always have classical music playing down there so it's a nice change of pace from the busy upstairs dining area. It's my favorite quiet place to study or read a book. There's also a large table down there if you need space for a bigger group of people. And don't forget to try a chocolate chip cookie. Props to whoever makes them. I'd eat one with every meal if I could. read more

The breakfast sandwiches are good. Brie, bacon, and egg on any bread is good. The servers/workers and cooks are awful. They all touch their hair and excessively scratch their scalps. It is disgusting. One of the servers/workers had a horrible attitude and the other wore her long her down and continuously played in her hair. NO ONE WASHED THEIR HANDS AFTER TOUCHING THEIR HAIR. Best coffee destination in town! Small roaster in the basement roasts what they serve in the cafe, so the coffee is incredibly fresh and smooth. I appreciate that they regularly offer a variety of coffees from around the world: every day they have an African, Central American, a Pacific Island variety, and some sort of blend. The ambiance is pretty cool, too. Most of the booths are constructed from old church pews (hence the "Immaculate") and, if you're curious, you can check out the roaster downstairs. read more

Not really a fan of this place, although everyone seems to worship it. The lines for coffee are very long and move at a snails pace- not to get the coffee, but just to even order and pay. Seating is kind of limited as well. My friend and I ordered a sandwich with a side salad each and it took 45 minutes to get our food and the place was not even that crowded on that particular date. The salad (Greek/Mediterranean) was decent but the sandwich was very plain. I haven't had the coffee but I don't think it will really change my mind. They do have a regular set of customers, as I often see the same people walking by. I would be willing to give it another chance but there's not really anything to entice me to come back. read more

Then, I asked if they served a traditional cappuccino and once again she seemed confused. In need of caffeine, I ordered a cappuccino despite my better judgement. I agree with one of the other yelpers, that this is one of those whole in the wall places. For the longest time when The Nick was still at their old location, I never knew what this place was (as there was not any signage out telling you what this place was) and place always looked closed during the evenings. Not crowded on a Saturday afternoon. Did seem like there was not too much to choose from sandwich wise. Liked how they gave yo cards from a deck of cards to indicate your order (versus a number). Nothing overly the top that would make me go to unless I was doing something in the area. read more

By far my favorite lunch and coffee café in Columbia. The Consumption salad is extraordinary and healthy. The sandwiches are great and can all be made on a pita if you like. Also, do not miss the chocolate chip cookies. The staff is mostly professional and overall friendly. My one complaint is their hours. They have been inconsistent about being open on Saturday, and are not open past 6 PM. I wish that I could visit and utilize the café later in the day. read more

I loooove Immac! I go here everyday for coffee because its the best place close to USC. Their lunch are fantastic, I usually get their specials or their chix salad wrap. And the baker that does their baked goods on Fridays is the best ever in all of Columbia, seriously. Biscuits, croissants, danish, apple turnover, cookies, scones they are all super yummy!
