Invited by bartender Ana to check out Immigrant Food (Planet Word), I was curious to experience it for the first time. I'm so glad she did. From the moment my partner and I walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming, friendly, lively, upbeat, and inclusive. We ordered the Greek Wings, The Cheeseburger, and Huevos Rancheros. The Greek Wings were hot, crispy, meaty, and savory. The Cheeseburger was a classic done well, topped with American cheese on a toasted sesame brioche bun and served with crispy Belgian fries. The Huevos Rancheros featured eggs, Mexican chorizo, tortillas, refried black beans, salsa, guacamole, pico de gallo, and fresh garnishes. He said it was hearty, colorful, and packed with flavor. We enjoyed everything about our visit. The staff were funny and friendly while still being professional pros. The dim sum was delicious. My bao bun tasted like a fusion of Asian, Indian and Mexican. TLDR: A spectacular experience at lunch and then again amazing at HH. Visited with coworkers for lunch today and the food was delicious (hence the half eaten photos lol), servers were kind, the decor was nice,and we were accommodated with no reservation at 11:45 for a party of 5. The lunch menu is solid and everyone loved their food (wings, fries, falafel, poke bowl) After such a good experience at lunch I circled back with friends for happy hour and the menu and bartenders were EPIC. The restaurant is right next to Plant Word Museum. The ambiance is really nice and the food was fresh, diverse, and healthy. The Mumbai Mariachi a tangy salad with crispy falafel. While it was good, it wasn't that flavorful. The Pineapple Matcha was refreshing. The Belgium Truffle Fries were definitely the highlight of the meal! Finally had a chance to check out this place after hearing so much about it from friends and colleagues! The ambiance is truly international, both modern and also chic! The service is immaculate! Tried out their restaurant week lunch menu. Has some of their best choices on there except the dessert was only cookies. The food per usual was very good and fresh. They open on the weekday at 11:30 and the Rezi reservation system did not allow 1130 reservations but 1145 reservations was able to go early and get seated despite reserving for later time. They add an extra hidden service charge to your bill. You need to ask for it to be removed. Other than that the food was good and the service was good. I want to try their other foods, but I don't appreciate the restaurant adding extra costs and then asking us to tip on top of that. The restaurant should be the ones to pay their wait staff fairly. Loved our meal here. The menu has a great variety of options. Lots of appetizers, small plates and large plates. It's really good for sharing. Each item we tried was totally delicious and really well made. The servers were great. Ready to answer questions, but never in the way. The ambiance is really cool. I'm giving this place as many stars as I can! It's attached to the planet word museum although you can enter from the street. Very cute decorations and very nice ambience! Our waiter was Joan and he was very helpful and friendly. Food was also great! I had the cube and sandwich which was very flavorful. My friend had they huevos rancheros which was very thorough and full of ingredients. Joan made sure we were always taken care of. Back to immigrant food for another lovely patio happy hour! Our server was seriously the best and most helpful person on the planet. She went above and beyond over and over to take great care of us. The only critique I had from this visit, and this is on management not the server: the happy hour portions are SMALLER. The menu makes it look like you're just getting a better price, but we discovered they give you less food!!!!! I thought I'd be getting two pupusas for $11 but I only got one. Two is $15 so I was like obviously I want a second one for only $4 more!!!!!!! I think this should be make clear because it would have impacted my food choice and my friends choice. An absolutely amazing experience. This gem is connected to Planet Word (which is one of DC's coolest museums). It features a variety of dishes from a variety of cultures. After a long day site seeing we needed to find something to eat. Let me say the menu is not super extensive however the smaller selection still had something for everyone in our party of 6. We tried the Cuban sandwich- the heritage bowl and the Greek wings. We enjoyed all the items it was fresh and very tasty. My favorite was the cold coffee - oat milk dates and Peruvian coffee. Immigrant food is a stones throw from the mall ands a much better place to grab dinner than all those food trucks. Try to make it Tue-Sat 5-6:30 to catch their happy hour. The staff are attentive and act like they are at a much fancier place which was kind of nice. The patio seating is comfortable and allows for great people watching. We had not planned on eating at Immigrant Food. We pivoted from a LOUD establishment a block away. Immigrant Food is a relaxed place where you don't have to talk over the music or the folks sitting around you. We asked the the music be turned down a notch and our request was immediately handled. The wait staff was very attentive and our water glasses were ALWAYS full. We ordered the Lamb Skewers, the Branzino and the Short Ribs. If there was a competition between the dishes we all won!! The dessert is something really special. The Chocolate Globe is a chocolate lovers dream. If you just go for dessert, this is the dessert to get. We sat outside under an umbrella on a brutally hot day. While we were shaded from the sun, I highly recommend Immigrant Food have on hand personal fans or misters for the diners. The heritage curry chicken bowl with peanuts and potatoes was pretty good. The Vietnamese noodle salad could use more noodles; we added chicken. The daughter had poke I didn't try. My favorite was my son's banh mi. I liked the pickle salad on top. Our crispy lemongrass chicken dumplings starter was good - just wished there was more of it. It would be cool if this outpost of Immigrant Food was more incorporated into Planet Word. Both places celebrate foreign languages. Check out the Planet Word bathrooms for inspiration and do something like that involving food (words meaning "eating" in other languages for instance). You could have a hallway from inside the museum leading there and even a few tables. read more

I regularly get lunch here and was excited to try the brunch menu. I got the huevos ranchero and was not disappointed. Great taste and good serving size. Service was pretty quick despite how busy they were. Highly recommend eating here and supporting their work. read more

Given the current political environment I was going to love this place no matter what. Immigrants bring flavor and seasoning to our plain Jane country. So it's appropriate that the ambiance was cool, the servers were great and the food is fun, interesting and amazing. We had The Heritage, the West African Gumbo, the Havana sandwich and the Classique Grilled Cheese along with a side of Naan. Everyone happy with their selections except for the Grilled Cheese. Big clumps of cheese on bread that was too soft to support it. I ate the Heritage and fell in love. The small green "too spicy for me"peppers muted my affection but it was a truly delicious dish. The food here is a great way to try different flavor profiles! The service the day we went didn't seem great. We had a reservation but didn't get seated until 15 minutes later despite open tables. Then it seemed like we weren't really being taken seriously by the wait staff. I still haven't been back to try more items, only because of how much the service impacted our experience last time. I liked that the gumbo was light and had a good amount of meat. It had a nice combination of meat, rice, and fresh vegetable. I like that the meat didn't feel unhealthy or oily. It tasted like it had a curry flavoring and it was as very tender. It tasted like it was slow cooked or maybe pressure cooker. The shrimp was minute baby shrimp. I asked for house and they said it was already included and spicy. It tasted a little flat to me in that end. I think of it was spicy the dish would have been elevated. The churros were just ok to me. a they were kind of hard and chewy and I ate them fairly quickly after picking them up. The wait for the food wasn't too long. read more

I've been here 3 times now and the food is always really good. The customer service is amazing and the decor is so beautiful. It's easy to miss if you're not paying attention but it's situated around the corner/the lower level under Planet Word. They have a pretty good happy hour. An absolute gem of a place!! Catchphrase: Immigrants make America great! To which I obviously and selfishly agree a hundred percent. But seriously, even though it was towards the end of the day and already fairly empty, it felt cozy, comfortable and had pleasant music playing. Cute décor of the bar bench. And last but not least, the staff was super-charming, attentive and gave great advice. The gazpacho was such a wonderful delight of flavors, cold and a perfect starter. The Asian cauliflower did not have to fear competition: Half a cauliflower just cooked to perfection and presented with green plantain puree, peanuts and coconut crust was absolutely delicious! Updating my review to 5 stars after an incredible restaurant week visit! Immigrant Food really set themselves apart by offering two RW menus, one at $40 and one at $55. The $40 was an incredible value with a diverse array of offerings and none of the usual skimping restaurants due during RW. Everything I ate was truly spectacular! The chicken lemongrass dumplings with a yuzu dip were an awesome starter, as were the bao buns. The branzino was DELECTABLE. The perfect crispy crunch from the skin, incredibly moist, well seasoned, and a huge portion, I took half of it home. It also comes with a generous plate of brussels sprouts that were to die for. Finished it off with alfajores and a cappincino. Everything I ate was delicious and amazing. While my cocktails were just okay, I still have to rate 5 stars for the amazing service. Super friendly, attentive, and focused on hospitality and customer service. Was able to switch out a cocktail without a problem and generally enjoyed what I had. We came on a Saturday around 630pm. We accidently stumbled upon this place while trying to find another one. It was very crowded on a Wednesday night around 7 pm. Host seating. Reservations recommended. They offer inside and outside dining. The dining inside has two floors. Unfortunately, we were limited on time, so we got takeout. You can walk to the back, close to the kitchen, and place orders via a kiosk or server manning the kiosks. Havana: three types of pork with melted swiss and pineapple pickles (4/5). Toasted bread, loaded with tender pork. I liked the twist using pineapple spears, which gave the sandwich a sweeter taste. I didn't notice any mustard or mayo. Dine-in sandwich (pictured on plate) looked way better than my takeout one (also pictured) French Fries - very crispy, crunchy fries that were well seasoned. Some could say salty the more you ate. Absolutely adored this place. I don't even have a picture of my food because I scarfed it down too quickly! I got the feta dip to go with my fries and it was literally scrumptious. Everyone I was with got a different dish and we all tried and loved everyone's food! I especially love the mission of this place and the way they uplift people in the community. For women's history month, we were able to get a wine flight featuring all women-owned winery tastings! We were all shocked at how full each glass was for a $24 flight.
