A full description of all issues is beyond reasonable length…read morefor a review, overall I found this shop and ownership to be untrustworthy, unknowledgeable, and incredibly dishonest on more than one occasion. got a $900 quote for a driveshaft replacement that turned into a $1400 job after several days of delay and no updates. the job only needing less than a handful of hours was originally estimated to be completed same day, and while delays can happen not only was I not updated of any delay, every time I called for updates after their time estimates had passed I was told the vehicle was actively being worked on which I now find likely to be untrue. within days/weeks of having the repair made my vehicle went to a mechanic for an unrelated issue and was determined immediately with a visual inspection my vehicle needed extensive frame repair. The repairs were so dire the vehicle was immediately deemed unsafe and this second mechanic refused to even examine the vehicle further stating it was beyond atleast reasonable repair. These damages were not only never mentioned to me by pats auto prior to service but i received and entire stack of paperwork outlining damages, repairs and other suggested maintenance work that should be done on my vehicle, including rust protection to the frame!! When confronted with this issue the owner informed me they do frame repairs in house and before issuing my requested refund wanted to take a look at the vehicle in attempt to make said repairs to get the vehicle back on the road for atleast a somewhat reasonable amount of time. After hearing the owners plans and estimated longevity for the frame repairs I consented provided they would be suitable to pass a nys inspection and at this point the owner declined to do any work stating the vehicle was beyond reasonable repair. It's worth mentioning this vehicle was most certainly in very poor condition atleast cosmetically going into the shop, regardless it falls under good faith at the very least to inform a customer of such severe damage it is a major safety concern. Not only was i not informed of these major issues but the initial vehicle inspection report has been altered sometime between my vehicle leaving their shop after refusing to do the work they offered and the writing of this review and photos will be attached. Additionally a refund was offered in exchange for the newly installed part however there was never any discussion or even any indication that in doing so my vehicle would be returned back to its running/driving yet damaged condition it was delivered in and that parts would simply be removed.

It got to the point I had to turn to the Attorney General for help. They reviewed my notes and determined it was a valid claim. They forwarded my notes to the DMV Albany main office. They too agreed my claim was valid but needed an outside opinion. So I went Camelot Auto Repairs in E. Rochester. I met and spoke with Doug the owner. Doug listened to my problem, went out with me and looked my car over. He detected a problem and prepared his professional opinion for the DMV. I sent his written opinion to the DMV office and they accepted it. The DMV in turn assigned a regional inspector who did get my problem straightened out. I was very pleased with Doug and his help for me. It was a very stressful thing dealing with this. 5 stars for Camelot Auto Repairs. I went to Schoen Auto today for the first time. It was only for a car inspection, but I feel this…read morewill be my go-to garage from now on. Unlike other garages, there were no fear tactics used to try to tell me I need new tires, or brakes, or whatever. Every interaction that I've had with them so far - phone and in person - has been professional and respectful. While waiting for my car, I listened to the interactions with other customers. I have honestly never heard auto service people speak as kindly and thoughtfully to customers. Also like other independent garages, there is an actual waiting area, with multiple tables, chairs, a window that allows you to look into the garage, a maintained bathroom, and a selection of Keurig coffees. Disregard the couple of bad reviews that have been submitted. Customers can be jerks and there are some people that are never satisfied. It seems that Schoen Auto's genuine philosophy is to do what is necessary to make things right with those rare unsatisfied customers. I hope this garage is around for a long, long time and remains under the same ownership.
