I'd put off getting LASIK for a couple of years, and the folks at San Diego LASIK Institute made it so much smoother and easier than I'd ever anticipated, from reception to planning to checkups to the procedure itself. From my initial consultation, Brandy the coordinator did a great job of answering my questions on everything from expected outcomes to payment options. My many followup emails were answered quickly and comprehensively as well. When it came time for my pre-op checkup, Dr. Darrow was a delight to work with. She brought a relaxed, humorous vibe to the tests that truly put me at ease, and she was actively happy to explain so much about how my eyes were going to work, what I should expect, and all sorts of other niche questions I had. When it comes to my eyes, I didn't want to walk into anything half-prepared, and she seriously sated my curiosity. On the procedure day, the Dr. Pham had a great intro video laying out some of the basic care instructions. Soon after, he came in to discuss what I should be ready for, and he did something great: he checked what I do for work, and then expressed the effect of the procedure to me in terms that made sense for my career! This helped things click for me right away and got me ready. Then the procedure itself was over with incredible speed. We started off with some prep, which involved numbing my eyes with drops and applying some pressure to them, which took about 10 minutes overall. Then, the actual laser procedure was 34 seconds per eye (this apparently varies by prescription, lower prescriptions taking less time). I Ubered home from the procedure, took the sleep aids they gave me, woke up 17 hours later, and went back for my post-op. My eyes felt great already and had 20/20 vision! Today, I went back for a followup appointment and had 20/15 vision. In the interim, my eyes had a week or so of ongoing dryness, but that's mostly subsided by now (and was very much one of the warnings I'd received). The dryness and my night vision will continue improving over the coming 6 months, but I already feel like I've gotten worlds better. I can't recommend San Diego LASIK Institute highly enough!

It's not perfect 20/20, however that is expected. A week out now, my vision feels so clear. At night , I do notice halos and starbursts (which is expected) however, a week out, I feel comfortable driving at night. I agree that the first few nights will be tricky driving at night. I mainly see Dr. Darrow for my follow ups and only saw Dr. Pham for my surgery. The whole staff is amazing and sweet. The day of surgery, I took many scans of my eyes. Dr. Pham likes to be precise and accurate. I watched Netflix for about an hour and a half, went to get the LASIK which only took 30 minutes, and then went home! They even gave me a stuffed animal to hold :) As intimidating as LASIK can be, this place made me feel so safe and my healing journey has been nothing but perfect!

I made an appointment at Clinica de Ojos in Tijuana and was able to get in the very next day. It extremely close to the border and very easy to find. Parking is also provided and a security guards watches the cars. I was highly impressed with the measures the clinic is taking to keep all of us safe. They have a very clock like system that makes checking in, paying, seeing the doctor and ordering supplies very simply and stress-free. Met Dr. Pablo Rodríguez and he is young, motivated and very professional. Liked that he was detailed in checking my eyes and provided me a sample of bifocal lenses. All of this took less than an hour. Highly recommend the clinic and the Doctor. So happy to have gone. I bought a 3-month supply there and ordered a different brand on-line back in the US, what I want to say is that the prescription is good internationally. Couldn't be happier! The las time I saw Dr. Tracy he told me my eye pressure was normal and I did not have glaucoma. I cannpt believe how he misdiagnosed me. I would warn you not to trust your precious eyes to him. I have been to UC Eye Institute in Irvine and UCSD in La Jolla many times since the very last time I saw Dr. Tracy. Please do not trust him with your vision. He ruined my life!!!! I…read morewas scheduled for Cataract surgery on one eye and then Laser surgery for the other eye (post Cataract) the week after. In regard to the first meet and pre-surgery appointment, I have mostly all good things to report. The main issue (and reason for 3 stars) is due to confusion. I'll explain. My son and I arrived on time and chose to use the car Valet Service due to my physical limitations and time factor. We were told they close at 5pm (this is 2pm) so make sure to pick up the car beforehand. We figured no problem, should only take 2-1/2 hours at most for pre-op testing. Unfortunately, once we got in, the paperwork to complete took around 30 minutes itself (the writing was so small and hard to read), so I'm sure that put me behind others. Shortly after, I was taken in for the testing. I had a very nice, quiet, gentle man assisting me. I have never had problems with eye testing in the past (having done this surgery before), however, it was confusing at times. He really did not explain what he was going to do or what he was testing for so I just tried to follow his verbal directions which were often hard to hear. He'd say (in a barely audible tone), "blink, don't blink". Then not say anything and repeat it over and over and over. Sometimes he wouldn't say "don't blink" so I was never sure if he was repeating it bc I didn't do it right or simply bc that's how many times he needed to do it. By the time the 3rd or 4th test came up, my back was killing me from all the awkward sitting with my face planted uncomfortably in the eye machine. I began to voice how much pain I was in, having walked in with a cane and obvious mobility problems, and asked how much longer this would take. He muttered something about a test that wasn't really necessary but something this particular Dr wanted him to do. We kept doing the test repeatedly, with the "blink, don't blink" issue. My eyes were so strained and tired by that time, having done all these other tests, that it was hard for me to suddenly stop blinking unexpectedly each time, so we kept repeating it over and over. He would mutter something to the effect that the scanner was not "picking up the right range" . I kept apologizing bc I thought it was my fault that he had to repeat it so often. Finally, after all the testing, we had to wait over 30 minutes for Dr. Nahl to talk to me. And boy did she talk! She bragged a lot and kept looking at and repeating my issues and how she was going the extra mile for me. When I stated that we had been there for awhile and my back was really hurting (which she responded to with condensation), she explained that the last test didn't need to be done and in fact, there was something wrong with the scanner itself and that's why he kept repeating it. I was stunned and bit frustrated bc here I was apologizing for being such a lame patient and unable to "stop blinking" - and it wasn't me afterall. All that said, we did not leave that office until 5:15! And it was like a torture session! I even mentioned the valet parking issue several times, expressing concern about them closing at 5pm and how we would get to our car. They weren't the least bit concerned. But sure enough, it was an ordeal getting outside and then getting to our car - which they had parked several blocks away! There was no way in my physical condition that I could walk that far, so I had to wait another 40 minutes on a cold, wintery nite to finally get our car and go home in major traffic! (Thx happily to the parking security guard who had to drive my son over in his cart) Here's the best part.....! After weeks of planning, a 3 hr OV/testing and a couple of phone calls to verify everything, one week before surgery, I get a call and msg that says 'gee we're really sorry, but apparently Dr. Nahl isn't part of your insurance plan afterall, so we have to cancel the surgeries and we'll just let you know when she does accept your insurance'. Whaaatt!!!??? You have got to be kidding me! I don't care how good she thinks she is, I don't want her to do my surgery anymore - that was the final straw - and that's not even everything I could add to this review about my experience. Anywho, do what you want with this information, but I personally lost my respect for her and her office staff.
