We were disappointed to find that the restaurant is under new ownership, and sadly, the food just wasn't up to the standard we were used to. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. We ordered: * Papdi Chaat: Used to be a favorite, but now it's soggy and overwhelmed by raw onions and barely any chickpeas, and completely different flavor * Gobi Manchurian: Previously our go-to dish, but now over-breaded, though the flavor is still there. * Chicken Tikka Masala: Tasted off, as if it had a filler ingredient, with noticeably less chicken. * Rice: A bit dry like it had been made the day before * Garlic Naan: Thankfully, still delicious. * Mango Lassi: No longer tastes authentic, more like it came from a pre-made mix. I was passing through Tracy and decided to eat Indian. Imperial Spice has multiple ceiling fans to keep you cool. The waiters were very attentive. I ordered pani puri, which is one of my favorite appetizers. The pani puri was crunchy, and delicious, and the presentation was excellent. The chai was refreshing. We came in on Sunday, April 30 on the way home to Modesto from Monterey to pick up food to go because it was Lunch time. First time coming here and we'll definitely be back! I was created by Sorab (sorry if spelled wrong) and he provided THE BEST customer service I have experienced from a desi establishment. While I waited for my order he filled me in on their large banquet area in the back and gave me a mini tour. He was informative and very cordial. The team cooking and preparing the food in the back were doing so with pride. They were all wearing gloves and I forgot to add that the weekend buffet was already on display. Mind you it was barely 12p. The restaurant bar has great potential. The owner wasn't on site but he should know that he has a very good team of staff. This location used to be Dhaba (which we loved) and then after they closed, we would visit the other Dhaba location on Grant line. But I wondered what the next business would be here. We placed a phone order which was a bit of a challenge because I think perhaps the person on the other end had a hearing issue or something as hubby kept having to repeat himself but was incredibly patient with them. Upon entering, it was lunch time. The layout inside looks exactly how Dhaba did. Not much changed there. The guy who brought out our food was friendly and kind. Lunch buffet goes for $22. Seems a bit steep for lunch but perhaps would've been the better option considering we paid $50 for 2 adults for the following items and portions were small. Butter chicken (1/5) Chicken Tikka Masala (4/5) Saffron Rice (5/5) Garlic Naan (4/5) The Butter chicken missed the mark for us completely. The heat was there however: 1) It kid you not, it only had 6 SMALL pieces of chicken :( the size of a tater tot. The container was 99% sauce. 2) We've had many butter chickens in our life however the sauce was swimming in butter/oil, to the point where we could see the oil globs forming and wasn't appetizing at all. I feel we got punk'd with this dish. The chicken tikka came in the same container style as the butter chicken. This one had a better serving of chicken but not a lot either. The saffron rice was not included with the main dishes and the portion was small but was very delicious in flavor. The garlic naan was pretty good too. Overall I was disappointed with the portion sizes. Our Indian food order is usually 2 mains (1 must be butter chicken), rice, garlic naan, and samosas. We ALWAYS had leftovers for the next day for 2 adults. We did not have any leftovers with this place. I hope they take this and improve on the portions of their chicken. read more

This is an upscale restaurant more like San Francisco type. If I could give more stars, I would. Everything here is delicious. My top number one was mango lassie. Never tasted anything like this before. This mango lassi has Malai dry fruits, and so many other things floating on the top. This was out of the world experience. Then I had bhel poori and chatt which was, very nice as well. Overall, this restaurant deserves five stars or even more. My children are here for vacation and they are craving for Indian food but would like to eat in a buffet. Of all the restaurants we called they are the only one that have the buffet. So we are so excited to go there. When we arrived almost all foods were gone and needed to be replenish. The guy , I don't know if he is the manager is not FRIENDLY! We asked for a little bowl to put some sauce. He got upset when he saw that we put some sauce. He approached us and told us to use the small tin bowls for sauce not the white one and his voice and not that friendly. My kids want me to buy them the orange round thing dessert. There was a guy buying ahead of me so I am waiting for my turn. He is so slow and I already told him I am buying dessert, instead of giving me the dessert he went to the guy and started talking and showing pictures of him and they started talking. He knows I have been waiting for him but he just ignored me. WHAT A CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE! We waited for 10 minutes and still just ignoring us. The food tastes good especially the lamb chop. But if this is the kind of manager that manages the restaurant I am not COMING back anymore! He needs to do seminars on customer service satisfaction! Imperial Spice on Grant Line in Tracy is hands down the only Indian food worth going to in the Bay. We judge Indian restaurants based on how well they do with our favorites. Hands down this is the best butter chicken and tikka masala in the Bay Area. Absolutely delicious! Make sure you get the garlic naan. And just when you think you don't need the saffron rice you quickly realize the flavorful sauces come alive to an unexpected level of perfection. Highly recommend this restaurant. I came here with a group of friends. We were all craving some authentic Indian food. When we arrived there were 2 other tables filled, but by the time we left, the placed had filled up. The building is a stand alone type building & almost like a banquet hall. The bathrooms were located past double doors. I would not say that the bathrooms were clean. Take that with a grain of salt. We initially tried to order some drinks, but the waiter told us there was no bartender. They didn't have a good selection of wine and the waiter was not really knowledgeable either. He told us all they had were red wine (a blend) and no whites. We had asked about what specific liquors they had, but he didn't know. Some of the group ended up going up to the bar to figure it out. The food on the other hand IS very good. Serving size, not so much. Definitely any item ordered from sides to the main protein were small, enough for maybe 2 people. I think if you have a huge appetite, ordering 3 proteins and 2 sides with some naan, would probably suffice. As for the cost, definitely on the pricier side. I would expect more for the cost, especially for rice! Mild is definitely spicy for someone who cannot handle spice. One person in our table could barely eat it because it was too spicy for him, but for the rest of the table, I'd say "mild" is more like a medium spice. Saag Paneer- I would say that this dish was of good size/amount for two. Most of the table also liked this dish the most. It was my favorite. The spinach & cheese was flavorful and yummy. Coconut rice- My favorite rice & was just the right amount of coconut taste- very small portion Saffron Rice- Was also very good, portion was small Tandoori Roti & Garlic Naan were both good & size was good Butter chicken- "Mild" is definitely more "medium", chicken was a bit sparce & mostly curry. Flavor wise, was very good. Portion size, definitely could be a bit more. Masala Fish- Not our favorite, it was decent. I am torn over this place. I would go back, but not in a group setting. The waiters weren't very attentive so I had to keep asking for refills or things, and they were really really trying to upsell the whole time. Today was a slow day, so I decided to take my Old Man out to get some lunch. Was thinking to go Bay Area but he wanted to stay local. I decided Imperial Spice as I've been here before and it was satisfactory. You would think with the number of Indian Restaurants opening in Tracy, quality would improve for the older ones. But it was disappointing. First of all, you have an Indian buffet but there's no butter chicken, no kabob, and no biryani? I know butter chicken doesn't necessarily originate from India -- but if you ask anyone local what's their favorite Indian dish they will tell you butter chicken. No one's coming to an Indian buffet to eat chicken Korma and Chicken Curry. And then they had some dried out, stale tandoori chicken. Not only that, half the items were so random. Chicken nuggets, tenders, small sandwich things, and some other stuff I don't recall. The naan took 10 minutes to arrive. I'm not hating it's just you want to take someone out and then you feel embarrassed that this was your choice. I hate giving bad reviews for Mom n Pops, but come on. I've had my own experiences in the Indian food scene, and this is unbelievable. My friends had told me the quality had gone down this year but I didn't think it was like this. Oh I need to add, the papdi chaat was so ugh/nasty and stale and not good. I had to waste the plate I had it on. Good remarks for the server, he was attentive. So I am reviewing the event venue on the other side of the restaurant. We held our baby shower here for about 35 people and it was amazing. The stage was a perfect place to set up our balloon arch and banner. We used the drink counter as a mimosa bar and coffee center. The package we got included snack and lunch along with chai and beverages. The food was so good. The service staff was very attentive. Oh my goodness this place is fantastic! I never expected to see so many different items Most of them I'd never heard of. All the dishes looked delicious as were presented so nicely just like when the chef and everyone actually enjoy what they do. Very nice atmosphere clean and the staff do a great job. We totally love the best varieties they have more to offer than most Indian cuisines we have been to and we have been to several. We have gone to the buffets on Saturday and the buffet is always well maintained and so many choices that are delicious and a great place to eat.
