I was so upset with this place that I decided to write my first ever Yelp review. I took my car to this place for headlight issue and they quoted me $2500 for headlight assembly and I declined and just payed the $164 diagnostic fee. 3 hrs after I picked up the car, my check engine light and traction control sign came on so I took it back next morning. The service adviser said, had a engine misfire, why did they forget to put that on the inspection list? The mechanic said they didn't even put that on the courtesy inspection because all of the focus was on the headlight. So who's telling the truth here? I just said the timing is fishy and left because they had a look on their face not knowing why I would be upset. To sum it up, I didn't have check engine light. 3 hrs later after I picked up my car from this place, check engine light came on. It could be coincidence but extremely suspicious. Only thing they put on the urgent list was tire tread, nothing about engine misfire. I chose this place due to good reviews but it was a mistake as I'm just going to take my car to dealership. read more

I had the worst experience with them replacing the actuators on my convertible top. Spent near $3000 and it still was not fixed. Took it to second shop and for under $300 they diagnosed and repaired. Appointments are easy to make, they tell you (verbally & in writing) what your auto needs, and performs the necessary service, on time for a reasonable price. When my beater Scion (airport car) needed service, I was a little embarrassed even asking if they would perform its much needed work. They treated that car like it was my Bimmer. First time customer and owner of a Porsche Cayenne. I had seen the recommendations and I am very impressed after my first visit. My little Fiat does not have near the "wow" factor of many of the other vehicles they were working on, but they seem to have treated it as if it did!. I brought my car in for them to install some new tires on it and they were the best. You may think "Tires, that's not much", but it is. Have you ever gotten your car back after tire installation and it was dirty? The balance didn't feel right? The tires weren't properly inflated? I've had that happen at other reputable shops - but NOT here! My car came back clean, on time, the balance was great, the tire pressure was right (I checked it) and on top of all that, the lug nuts were properly torqued (checked that, too). These folks will treat you right and do a good job for you, even if you don't have a Porche, Benz or BMW. You can trust them. read more

I took my Benz to the dealer to have it serviced and left feeling like I was assaulted. To avoid making the same mistake I found these guys on google. At first, I thought all the reviews had to be fake. No way is an auto shop doing this good but I am here to tell you that all of it is true. Making an appointment was super easy over the phone. Tammy (the owner) stopped by while I waited and told me to make myself at home, which is easy to do in their living room/waiting area. Daniel clearly knows his stuff, walked me through what needed to be done and was mindful of cost. Maintaining a Benz is not cheap but I feel their prices are reasonable and WAY better than the dealer. Things to note, they do not have loaner cars per say, they are not open on the weekends and they did not detail my car once it was done. If those things are important to you I would look elsewhere. After having a terrible experience at the Chapel Hill Tire King, someone recommended that I try MPowered. I went in with a bit of a bad attitude from CH Tire King and was absolutely wowed by their service. They were super nice guys, very knowledgeable, and even drove me back home to Chapel Hill. They had to keep my car for a couple of days and they kept in contact every step of the way. Their service was so good in fact, that I was honestly scared that they were going to charge me an arm and a leg. I found the price to be very fair, the car has never run better, and I would highly recommend them. There does seem to be a wait to get in (I had to wait about 2-3 days) but I have a feeling that it's because they have such a good reputation. I can not recommend them highly enough. read more

I took my car in around Christmas time to get the VANOS service done on my 2004 BMW 330i ZHP. They were offering 20% off. Since I don't have the patience, space and time to work on cars any longer, I took my car in. Another plus is that they use Beisan Systems when rebuilding your VANOS. I emailed them months before I even thought about coming in. They were helpful the whole way. Mike let me use one of the loaner BMWs at no extra charge under the stipulation that I return it with a full tank of gas and that I had to listen to Maggie May by Rod Stewart since the radio was stuck on that song. I enjoy this type of goofy humor in a business. Since the valve cover gasket needs to be removed to get to the VANOS, and the spark plugs are in easy access, I had them perform these services since my VCG was leaking, anyway. They offered a fair price for the spark plugs, VANOS service, VCG and labor. Anyway, I brought my car in at the time specified. I gave Mike my information, asked if they could take care of the screw in my back tire, we traded keys, and I went on home to my parent's. I get a call about an hour later asking if it's okay if they drive the car to make sure the VANOS is in order and the car runs. Fair enough - maybe they don't have access to a machine that can test the VANOS through the car's computer. I get scared leaving my car in a mechanic's hands, since I'm a DIYer, but I trust him. The next day at around 11:00 a.m., I get a call from Mike asking if he's seen my email. I was drunk the night before and I slept in late. I just told him, "No." He said my car's ready and the total is x amount. He informed me that the office is closed from 11:00 - 2:00 for a party, but is going to remain open until 5:00. I told him I would see him at 2:30. I arrive at 2:30 to pick up my car. The total is exactly as expected - they even removed the screw for free! - and there were no surprises. They even added about a quarter tank to pay for the gas they used. He gave me specific break-in instructions for the new VANOS seals, and this is a good sign of competence. That means they care about what happens after I leave the shop and want to ensure I don't come back with any problems due to improper break-in procedures. The parts and work came with a warranty, however. Good to know. I paid, Mike and I chit-chatted, traded keys and I went to my car. I looked it over. Nothing was different on the outside, i.e. no scratches, stains, etc. Good sign. The seat was out of adjustment, as were the mirrors, and the radio was left on. Not a huge deal at all. I'm just particular, but I'm more concerned about the mechanical abilities of the shop - not their particularities. The odometer was reset and a new mileage was on, so I had no idea how far the car was driven. This was my only gripe. I trust the shop, but you never know. I thought he was gonna just drive the car around the block, but he took it home. I don't think the car was joyridden, because there were a myriad of other, faster, more exciting cars in the parking lot. Either way, the ZHP has a more durable motor than my old, geriatric E30, so it wasn't a huge deal. I got home and popped the hood. There was a noticeable new gasket, and a small smudge on the valve cover gasket. Good sign. That means the work wasn't faked. Several thousand miles later, I leak way less oil, have more power and am happier with my car. I ended up giving their card to my best friend who also drives imports. I would definitely go back to this shop. Good guys here. read more

The folks at Import are always great. I have an 2007, 335i. The Import team are very attentive to my car's needs, although it's never what I want to hear ($$$!)- they are always helpful with helping me figure out what is most important and in what time frame I need to take care of certain issues with the car. They are pretty much the best value in the Triangle, I am sure I pass by several import car shops on my way from Southpoint to Cary each time I need to get something done. I've shopped around in the past, but know that regardless of where I go - my car will be well taken care of at Import Motor Werks! They are always helpful in figuring out a car option when I do not have a ride to get to work by loaning one of their loaner cars to me for the day. I have an '00 Passat that I have owned since new. It has been a great car over the years: reliable, terrific to drive, lots of nice features, and practical. However, with over 11 years and nearly 100k, it is showing it's age. With the handling feeling a bit less sharp of late, and front tires that were showing uneven wear, I knew the old girl was in need of some professional attention. After trying different mechanics for the past few years, but not really finding anyone I really liked, I thought I would give Import Motor Werks a try as they specialize in German cars. Mike and his guys are friendly and thorough. I didn't realize they were going to do a full inspection, so I was a bit surprised when I saw some items recommended for service that were not related to my front-end issues. However, after going through the list with Mike over the phone, he promptly emailed a revised quote that focused on just the essential items I needed done. While cheaper than what Leith VW would have charged me, it was still a lengthy, expensive list of items (control arms, tie bars, new tires, etc.), the kind of list that makes you start doing the "Do I fix it or replace it?" calculation. I gritted my teeth and gave them the okay to complete the work. Twenty-four hours later, the work was done as promised, and the car drives great. They even washed and vacuumed it prior to arrival, an unexpected bonus from an independent shop. Given the size of my investment, I will probably hold on to the car another year now, so long-term I saved money by avoiding a new car payment for a bit longer. One thing is for sure, if I need something done, I will not hesitate to bring it back to Import Motor Werks. read more

I was really pleased with the service on my 2008 Porsche Boxster. They were certainly a lot less expensive for a 36K mile service than the other non-dealership places. Michael kept me informed and promptly responded to emails and followed up with me on several issues. Not to set the bar low, but a lot of places don't do any of that. I was a bit concerned when they couldn't turn off my service indicator light but Michael suggested the dealer address that and then not only reimbursed me fully for the charge but ended up adding a bit based on what the dealership must have originally told them. Okay, it may not be as fancy as the dealership but it is also no where near the cost either. And all the people there are very nice and friendly too. read more

I own a domestic car (gasp!), but I'm picky about finding a quality installer for the big runflats that go on my Corvette. I wrote to IMW on their website on a Saturday, asking if they could accommodate me. I was surprised to get a reply immediately, that same day. Then they stayed in constant communication, letting me know when my TireRack tires arrived, when they had an extra open slot available if I wanted to come in earlier than we had arranged, when my car was ready... It is so heartening to find proactive customer communications these days. Everyone I dealt with was polite, professional, and gave me the sense that they appreciated having me as a customer and cared about delivering a quality experience. I went here with an a/c issue and they hammered me with everything under the sun that needed to be repaired on my car. I understand upselling but telling me that I needed to spend $2,100 more to fix all other issues other than the $250 a/c problem, was a little absurd. I agreed to the a/c charges so they started work on my car. Then at the very end of the day they call me back telling me that they priced the wrong a/c hose and the correct one I needed was $85 more. Now I don't know if this was an honest mistake or not, but the entire experience at this place seemed to be upselling and the last minute phone call shananigan pretty much sealed the deal on my hunch. I mean what was I going to say at that point? Nevermind, I will have my car fixed somewhere else? I think they know what they are doing and they seem pretty good at it. I took my VW Jetta TDI to have the timing chain replaced. These guys did the job plus the water pump and four or five smaller parts were replaced (gaskets, valves) for several hundred dollars less than the dealership wanted just for the chain alone. And less than my local repair guy wanted also. Excellent customer service with friendly people. They even loaned us a car for the evening and next day. It was an older BMW and a very nice ride. That was worth $40 or so. I was very impressed with this business and will definitely use them again. read more

In June 2017, I purchased a 2001 Audi TT Quattro Roadster that was majorly behind in maintenance. I've been working with Daniel and he realizes the high repair costs versus my budget and my love for the car. IMW has been great in detailing what repairs to do first, a timeline of when to do them, and estimating costs. Daniel brought out the mechanic at one point to speak with me as well, which I only ever experienced once before (in Niwot, CO). Very surprised that anybody has had a bad experience with these guys. I've been taking a 1998 BMW528i to them for a couple of years now, and have gotten nothing but fantastic service. The latest: I've got a wheel speed sensor problem that is keeping the car from getting inspected (causing check engine light to stay on). After checking it out, they suspected that the ABS control module was the problem, and recommended replacement for a bunch of $$. I gritted my teeth and told them to go ahead, but when the new part was put in I had the exact same problem. They apologized, removed the replacement part, and didn't even charge me for their labor. Can't say enough about Mike & Co, and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an exceptional mechanic for German imports. read more

Import Motor Werks stayed after hours on Friday and Saturday morning (they aren't open on the weekends) to work on my car so I could drive home on Sunday! This shop is not honest esp Michael. They diagnosed my car wrong and I would've spent $1,000.00 for repair that wouldn't have fixed my problem. I went to auto zone for free diagnostics and found the problem for free then went to a a non German shop and fixed the problem for $200.00 when my car is German. Also claim they have a certain synthetic oil that last 10k for a higher price but more efficient, that's a lie. That oil only lasted 5k with no leak. If you are willing to get ripped off then mpowered auto/import motor werks is your place. Heed the warning that they switched business names yet still the same owner, Jordan. Then for yelp its listed as works when their website and new business cards say werks. read more
