The team at Imia Tattoo was great to work with. I had contacted them via Instagram to let them know I wanted to walk in the next day, they filled me in. We spoke about the design and what I was looking for and Justin was great and came up with a drawing in less than 30 minutes. This was my first tattoo so there was lots of anxiety going into it. I let them know what spots on my body I was looking to get it at and they mentioned the forearm would be the last painful, which it really was. I think it really depends on where your pain tolerance is. If I ever visit Maui again, i'll be sure to add more work or get another tattoo from the Imua team! read more

This isn't so much about the shop but rather commentary on the sacredness of Polynesian symbols. I read an article the other day about a woman who dislikes seeing Polynesian tattoos, specifically sacred Maori symbolism, on humans who are not of Maori descent. I would like to briefly address that here. To those humans of Polynesian-descent who share similar thoughts: I respect and understand the thought behind wanting to keep a sacred thing for the descendants of the ancestors who created those symbols. Your feelings and beliefs are yours and valid. I would like to just say that I rock my art with love, respect and gratitude for the people who created those symbols and for the meaningful stories that gave birth to that symbolism. Sweet Trade Tattooing I'm a returning customer to SweetTrade Tattoo. Adam is a great guy and I would describe him as a great bottle of wine. The older he gets the more refined his tattoo artistry becomes. You see lots of ads out there for tattoos. It's nice to see an artist like Adam who takes pride in his work. He's constantly keeping up on the newest tattooing skills. His prices are equal or lower than most venues. He actually takes the time to explain the process and does the work for the price quoted. We were attracted to Henry's mesmerizing artwork online. He was very responsive via internet messages. He allowed us to come in on a Monday to discuss our graphic desires. He was very friendly and helpful in person. After feeling that he was a right fit for the job, he accepted our deposit. He scheduled us for Thursday (3 days after our initial meeting). On the morning of Thursday, about 5 hours before our tattoo appointment, he messaged to ask if he can reschedule to Saturday at 9 am. His excuse was that his kids were on break and there was no one to watch them. We decided to cancel the appointment as we could not make it on Saturday. We are extremely disappointed with Henry. His excuse seemed very unprofessional. The kids had been on Spring Break since the day he scheduled our tattoo appointment. Spring Break dates are available well in advance. Unacceptable excuse. He took our deposit to ensure we don't help him lose money. We trusted him with that $100 deposit and he helped us ruin our plans. He promptly returned our deposit electronically. We are very disappointed that Henry turned out to be unreliable and unprofessional. We will not go back to him. We do not recommend him. read more

Such a great experience! We decided to get a tattoo while on vacation and were nervous trying to find a good spot. The tattoo had real sentimental meaning so we wanted to find an artist who was trustworthy. We found this shop and are so glad we did. My husband had a Honu tattoo added to his calf 6'montjs ago by Henry I.. It was really well done so when our dog passed it seemed right to have a memorial paw print added to my inner arm. I met with Henry and we discussed my idea. He then made an appointment for me two weeks later and when I arrived he had a beautiful mock up for me to consider. Not only was it exactly what I had hoped for he really took it to an entirely deeper level. He added the traditional tribal symbolism he knew of in Hawai'i (e.g., ocean, mountains, and even sun/moon). Then he even added deep white stripes inside the motifs to highlight the color of my pet. All this to say I have 5 other tattoos but this is by far my favorite. It is still healing up nicely on day 7, but it is perfect!!' Best ever!!! read more

Ended up doing this spontaneously - I called this place to see if they allow last minute walk-ins. And yes they do! I spoke with Justin, who was my tattoo artist. Specifically described what I wanted and my life story at the time. I came in and he sketched out with a sharpie to see how it would look like and I observed it in the mirror before adding the final ink. The most amazing part of this experience was that it was all free hand. I got a minimal tribal with my fav Hawai'i state flower. I ended up loving the piece so much - it truly represents my story and excited to share it to the world. Thank you so much, Justin! I'm just so pleased and amazed how Justin's work was thoroughly and beautifully done. He was patient and super talented. Highly recommend this place if you plan on getting a tattoo in Maui. 5 stars to make sure it gets seen (and because Keahi & Hano are great!) If you're there for Mark Gano - don't. One-time client, you're probably fine, if you can even get ahold of him to book an appointment. But if you plan on doing a piece to finish later or being a return client, be aware he might "forget" to book your appointment from 2 months ago, suddenly become evasive, and then block your contact info lmao. Went to him for 4+ sessions/pieces, tipped well, promoted him/brought clients, and this is the thanks I get lol love it.
