My husband and I walked in looking for a small tattoo each. Ended up being our worst tattoo experience, and between the 2 of us we have a good amount of tattoos. We came in and were greeted by a very friendly artist who was working on someone else so he called over another artist. From the get go this guy did not seem very interested in working with us and even came off a little rude. We decided to continue, explained we wanted to stick close to shop minimum on a small flash and get our wedding date too. Once we worked out the designs, the actually tattooing took about 45 mins although his set up process seemed to be almost as long which seemed odd. When we were all done he charged us $350... EACH. In shock and unsure what could be done since the tattoos were already done, we paid and went on our way. As we drove off and the shock wore off we were in disbelief that we just spent $700 on these. We have been looking forward to getting our wedding date for many years and figured may as well take this opportunity after spending a fantastic vacation in Maui. Honestly wish we would have walked out once the vibe felt off. Maybe checked out one of the many other tattoo shops we saw on the same street. read more

Let me tell you about our experience with Maui Tattoo Company. My wife and I decided to get tattoos in honor of our 2 boys, ages 3 and 9 months. It was my first tattoo and my wife has many. We stopped by the store a few days prior to schedule our sessions and we were booked with an artist that had 20+ years of experience. We were stoked. On the day of our scheduled sessions, we received a phone call and email asking us to push our appointment back by a couple of hours because the tattoo artist called out sick. No biggie. We're flexible. So we arrive right before the scheduled time and started the process to get some pretty basic tattoos. While I was getting my ink, I asked the tattoo artist how much experience he had and he said over 2 years (bait and switch?). The overall experience was fine even though the start of my tattoo session hurt really bad, but subsided towards the end. My wife's experience wasn't too different than her previous tattoos. Fast forward a few days later, my tattoo started to "bleed" and the skin raised in one particular section of the tattoo (where it hurt the most). It was clear that the artist pressed way too hard and the ink went in too deep. To make matters worse, not only is the "bleed" very evident, but my skin is clearly damaged and scarred. Also, the lines are inconsistent. I'm extremely disappointed that I'm scarred for life with bleeding to boot. My wife's tattoo didn't bleed, but she also scarred and the lines are also inconsistent. Check out the pictures. It should be noted that we followed every single care instruction that they gave us. While the tattoos were extremely disappointing, my wife and I are even more disappointed with the customer service of Maui Tattoo Company. We emailed back and forth over the course of many weeks following their guidance without any sort of improvement. They were really responsive at first, but they stopped responding altogether even though we received email confirmations that they received our messages. I've taken screenshots of our exchanges and posted them. They haven't even apologized for the terrible tattoos or offered any sort of compensation. The bottom line is that you should avoid Maui Tattoo Company at all costs. It's a mistake that I will wear for LIFE. Terrible tattoos, terrible customer service, and no ownership whatsoever. Please learn from our mistakes and find another shop. Thank you for listening. read more

Simply 5-star service. Right when we walked in Jami at the front desk worked with us and coordinated all three of us getting work done at the same time. Jeremy moved a client to squeeze in time for my daughter's tattoo, so my wife and I could get our tattoos done at the same time. We came in with vague ideas, and they all stepped up with perfect tattoos for us, exactly what we wanted. Syd did an awesome rooster on my wife's calf, and Alyssa gave me an absolutely gorgeous Hibiscus on my bicep. Just what we wanted for our Maui visit! The shop is clean and comfortable, the vibe is perfect and relaxing, and when they noticed the Jane's Addiction tattoo on my wife's thigh they played Nothing's Shocking on the stereo for us! Hell yeah! We've had work done in many cities over the years' vacations, and combined we have a lot of tattoos, and hands down this was our favorite experience yet. I called this place the day before I wanted to get tattooed and the person who answered was Tohid! He told me to text his phone the images of my tattoos that I wanted and he was already super excited to work with me and on what I chose to do. We set up a time for the next day and did a deposit. The next day I come in and I already feel his great energy. He showed me with what he came up with for my tattoo and I was already blown away with it. Then we started setting everything up and he was very in depth about everything and asked me how I wanted my tattoo to be shaded technique wise too! The session was really great and Tohid was super cool to chat with. His technique was great, very gentle handed. A friend and I were both fortunate to get tattoos from the fabulous Rachel during our trip to Maui. Rachel is wonderful...totally engaging, really willing to brainstorm with you to come up with a design and such that's just what you're looking for, and definitely very attentive to the tattoo work to be done. The quality of her work is really fantastic. Cost wise, I don't think this location is all that expensive. You get what you pay for, and I'm more than willing to pay more for something when the quality is there. The only thing that put me off a bit about this location is that the front desk person wasn't at all friendly. Like another reviewer said, it was almost like she didn't want us (or anyone else, as there were 3 other people in the studio besides us) there. In reality though, I'm here to see an artist and get a tattoo...and that's my focus. I came here for a walk in tattoo, which I would not suggest doing. The artist who did my tattoo was Craig, who was extremely rude, and it made me extremely uncomfortable. He did a good job, but the experience wasn't that great. Not only was he rude, but I was overcharged for my tattoo. $200.00 for 19 OUTLINES of SMALL stars. No color or anything. $300.00 if I wanted color. This isn't my first tattoo, and quite frankly the first one I got was a better quality, bigger, more detailed, and colored for the same price as colored stars. The ONLY reason I'm even giving it two stars is because the receptionist and staff were very nice, with the exception of Craig, and the shop was clean. I requested the fun, approachable, and BEAUTIFUL Rachel to do my simple bass clef/treble clef heart with script underneath. I went in thinking it was going to hurt like everyone said it would.
