There was nothing wrong with our bathroom before, it was just outdated. They did a decent job, but now we're noticing mold growing all over the cabinets. We've never had a mold problem before. Mold is growing under the sink, in the drawers, it's especially growing on the pieces of wood where it's been cut and the edges are rough. We told Mark about it, he came out and said maybe the cabinets are sealing too well so he put cushions on the cabinet doors and drawers. He also re caulked the sinks, and put on wall penetration covers. He took moisture readings behind the vanity and said it was saturated with water and proceeded to cut a huge hole in our hallway. Upon inspecting all the pipes, there was no sign of any leaks. We didn't do anything different in the bathroom, but there I was having to scrub mold off my new bathroom cabinets. The only thing that has changed in the last 7 years of having this house is the new bathroom cabinets that we had Gulf Coast Builders build and install, and now there is mold. Now Mark wants $350 for repairing the hole he cut in my wall. We didn't ask him to cut the hole in the wall, and he didn't tell us beforehand that he was going to charge us $350 to repair. Now he's not responding to us since we told him we shouldn't have to pay for the wall damage he created. We've called and texted him and no reply. Due to severe water damage the bottom 3ft of sheetrock on our first floor had to be completely replaced with new baseboards and wainscoting. 1. They went in my garage and used my equipment on multiple different occasions (ie. my drill, compressor/nail gun, ladder) despite me reminding them they were not allowed to use my tools each time. 2. From the start of construction Tom knew they could come only after 3pm on week days. He said that won't be a problem. The contract estimated it would take 7-10 days to complete the job. It took a month and the job was never completed. The delay in schedule was because they no showed us several days in a row. Each time they apologized and promised to put in extra hours but then on the fifth no show they tried to convince me to hire someone else to finish the job because "scheduling is just becoming an issue because we have a lot of other jobs- it may be better for you to find another company to finish the walls." I finally got them to agree to come back the following Saturday to finish the job but then they no showed me AGAIN and as always there was no heads up or explanation. 4. They left a 10" hole in my drywall and when I asked them to cover it they nailed a MDF panel over it instead of patching it properly. In other areas they just packed on compound (instead of laying mesh) resulting in major cracking. 5. The plumbing in the bathroom was not damaged from the cold freeze so it was not touched by the home owner. They broke the water valve to the toilet so they told me they would repair the plumbing. They did it incorrectly and then never reattached the toilet that they removed. 6. Baseboards were left loose and unattached in multiple areas. They only put caulk in a handful of spots (probably in attempt to hide the bad cuts). The mitered cornered were incredibly sloppy and on rounded corners there were supposed to be bullnose corners which wasn't done 7. The wainscoting looked like they played "find a stud" with my nail gun- it shouldn't take more than one nail to secure an area and there were up to 30 holes in some areas which completely destroyed the panels. 8. Tom no showed for the final walk through and then refused to reschedule with me. Since he wouldn't meet with me, I had to resort to sending him photos (which I have attached to this review) to express my concerns. I asked him to send someone out to fix these issues and he refused. Since the job was never completed by them, I personally had to go out to purchase the materials to finish the job. I'm just glad I know enough to be able to do the remaining work myself, a typical homeowner would have to hire a new company to do it. They very well may respond to this because no company wants a bad review staining their reputation but I urge you to disregard what they have to say. We gave them ample opportunity to redeem themselves throughout this ordeal- their word is untrustworthy and their actions are unreliable. *update* reviews have not been posted on any other social media by me. I have been working with Miel Construction for a little over the past year. After a great…read moreexperience renovating my home's master bathroom, I've had them back to handle a home office renovation as well as a powder room renovation thus far. To share a few thoughts: - My home has an odd layout, mixing open-concept with split-level, so rooms do not begin and end in conventional places. This leads to odd requests on projects (e.g. "paint half of this wall"). Miel has been extremely understanding of the house, which has helped me tackle projects in a way that works with my budget. - Texts during the week always have very timely responses, and work is stood behind in the event of a small goof here and there. - As someone who enjoys DIY projects and is very invested in the materials and design choices I make, Miel has been extremely accomodating to develop quotes where I provide various materials (door hardware, marble, etc.). That allows me to get exactly the look I want, without needing to be my own contactor. Five stars does not suggest that there has never been any mistakes ever. Small things are bound to happen here and there, just as I'm sure they would with any contractor. I do think I have a five star partnership with Miel, and when issues arise, I can count on them to be resolved in a reasonable manner. I look forward to more future projects with Miel.
