We have lived at Summit House for nine years. My husband and I bought together and have since had…read morea daughter. The home owners that we share a block with are lovely. Our immediate neighbors have really made our time here enjoyable. In a condo community, they really make a difference. We never had trouble with management in all of the time we have lived here, no matter who was in charge. Within the last year, Sherri retired and Laura took over. For whatever we need, both were/are very responsive and helpful. If we call with an issue, we have always gotten a response within 24 hours. The guys who do the work around the complex are helpful and polite. Don't judge the units by the outside. Yes, they look like 70's ski resorts but you have to look past that because the interiors are what make the condos. Some sort of complex upkeep happens every year - painting, repaving, updating lighting, pool, etc. If you're interested in getting involved with other residents, they offer multiple activities throughout the year to connect with neighbors. You make of it what you want. If you're considering living in Summit House, it gets my recommendation.

The condos' exteriors are old looking and a lot of them are in need of renovation. The REAL problem with Summit House is Sherri, the office manager. She is single handledly running the community into the ground. She will NEVER fulfil a request. She gets snippy anytime you report a problem. Nothing is ever the association's fault. You will get charged for things that are not even referenced in the by-laws and your HOA will go up exponentially each year. It's something around 250/mth now I believe which is a joke bc they'll NEVER help you. I complained about bees once and was told maintenance came out with a tennis racket, swatted some and left their carcasses on the ground to scare away their bee friends. Can't make this stuff up. Once I was plowed into my parking spot by a snow plow. I couldn't get out for days. I had to rent a car. When I complained to Sherry I was told it was my fault for not parking in my car port. Not that it matters but the reason I wasn't parking in the car port - that I paid for - was that the door to the storage cabinet in the front was falling off the hinges and if it HAD fallen it would've fallen onto my car. Upon relaying this information, Sherry told me that I would be forced to give up my carport if I didn't use it. Even tho I PURCHASED the condo and the port was referenced and included in my closing docs. The final straw for me was when my neighbors deck began to leak from above and into my ceiling. As far as I was informed, Summit House takes care of the exterior/outside of the walls and my responsibility was within. When the neigh it's deck leaked it caused water damage into my bathroom. The whole ceiling needed to be ripped out. When I called to report the issue to Sherri I was told that it wasn't Summit House's responsibility. No reason given, of course, as this is actually NOT the law. But nonetheless, Sherri refused to do the right/legal thing and rather than deal with the hassle of a lawsuit, we paid for it ourselves. If I had it to do over again, I would run fast and far from Summit House and Sherri. There is no reason to have to deal with such aggregation and expense simply to live in a home you are paying for.

Having your own individual parking spot is a huge plus - as normally preferred parking comes with a price. The property itself is well maintained and very clean. The office staff is extremely helpful and very quick to answer. I have reached out on numerous occasions and have had answers within an hour time frame. Maintenance is also super quick when requested too. I needed a new washer at one point and it was replaced in under a week. I personally loved the set-up at my apartment - it had a very spacious living room area and I loved the patio size too. It has a neighborhood feel and the location is so close to restaurants and shopping (Target and Giant within walking distance). Would definitely have lived here much longer if I didn't need to move for a new job!

Pros: - Bigger apartments than others in the area (but you pay for it) - Plenty of parking - no fighting over spots - Mostly soundproof, as compared to other apartments in the area - Grounds are kept very clean - Maintenance responds quickly to all kinds of issues - Accepts pets (see related con) - Events throughout the year (never went to them though) Cons: - Secluded apartments used to be a pro, but I still drive by the complex every day to work and I see they have put a monstrosity of a building right in front of my old unit. If I still lived there, I would definitely move - they destroyed a very scenic picnic area to squeeze out some more profit. - Horribly dated kitchens. - Rent seems to go up annually. - Management doesn't seem willing to work with people with special circumstances - this was an issue my neighbors and I complained to each other about regularly. The staff is nice enough, they just don't really seem to care. - Maintenance seems to work at all hours of the day (I've heard them next door and above me as early as 6am to as late as 8pm) - very loud and annoying. - Pet fees are charged monthly - for each pet. I don't understand this fee. They need to clean the carpets when you leave if you had a pet in there, whether it was there for 3 months or 3 years makes no difference. They are just trying to get more money out of you as far as I'm concerned. In summary, it was a decent place to live, but I've come to view them as rather money hungry. I got the feeling they put their profits above their current residents comfort and quality of life.

Often times they say that they have already completed your request for maintenance and they have not. The front office does not answer your calls. You have questions in regards to your bill and no one returns your phone call. The lack of communication and professionalism at this place is horrible. At this point. I will continue my lease until it is up, but renewing will not be an option. They have now added on additional fees that were never added on before. We pay for water and sewage and trash and other additions like insurance and property fees that were not originally a part of the leasing agreement. Last, but not least, we lose water often, trash shoots are shut down, and security is a joke. You can get into the doors without any key or fob.

A pound me moving in the apartment it still needed additional work and I really wasn't all that happy. The service manager at the time was absolutely amazing (Marquis) he came for one thing and I was telling him about the other problems and in one day he fixed everything and even returned the next day to follow up. Little did I know that some minor maintenance would be the least of my worries. I had been living in the apartment short of two or three months, when the real problem came. After a long day of work I'm watching a movie and my boyfriend see's a mouse run across the room. I'm immediately upset and frightened at this point. I Have Never Been More Scared In My Life!!!! So, first thing the next morning I call the front office and they just acted like they were in disbelief and they would take care of the problem. Well......I can whole heartedly say it's been months and I'm still having the same problem. I have spoken with the office manager Megan and Regional Manager Karen at Scully company. They have since admitted to the older buildings as being infested with mice due to the construction around the apartments. Plus further inspection of the apartment, they have hidden holes where the pipes run for the heating, under the bathroom sink, behind the stove, etc. So it's like the mice can just go from apartment to apartment (because you can hear them all in the walls and kitchen area). I have spoken with several other tenants in the buildings and they have seen mice in their apartments. When I ask for a resolution they offered me to move on a sister property (which seemed like the simplest resolution but also was a hassle, seeing as they said everything would transfer over but when I called their property manager she said you have to go through the whole process of applying over again). So not only do I have to look for another place, I have to go through the process again, and as a healthcare worker find time to afford to move all my items somehow into another place. I'm very disgusted with management and Scully at how they are handling the situation. Mind you I haven't heard from the office in two months now, No follow up, No checking in, No Nothing!!! I want to say that the maintenance men have been absolutely AMAZING!! They have tried to make me feel as comfortable as someone in this situation can feel and they come out right away everytime I call. Christina in Dekalb office has tried to be as helpful as possible. They have become non responsive to residents, and very defensive. There were also many problems with water lines and gas lines. I feel so sorry for families with young children having to go without for days at a time. And no refunds to anyone. It's sad, as there aren't many rentals in the area that accept dogs, and again, the location is fantastic. However, I am so glad to be out, and warn anyone considering the move, it all changes once you are a resident. The office is literally hostile. Except for Cat who seems competent and human. I hope Kaiserman will consider making her the manager. Maybe things would improve!

The office staff of 3 and maintenance crew of 3 are professional, friendly, knowledgeable and caring. Each time we've ever needed them, they've always been responded with a sense of urgency and care as if we were family. The sense of community here is pretty stellar compared to other places we've resided. We've got great neighbors who care about each other and us. This year 2026, we've been slammed with 2 unusual snowstorms. The maintenance team has been working day and night cleaning the property so residents can get out, but stay safe on the slippery lots and walkways. We highly recommend living here.

And I have worked in leasing for several years in this area and the DC area. This place isn't very expensive but is very overpriced for the worn out apartments they rent. We were shown a beautiful model and given a very half assed "renovated" unit that bore no resemblance to the gorgeous model. We had a lot of issues with bugs of all types. The unit was given to us very dirty. Gutters were full of crap so many overflowed. Do not rent here!!
