Office staff has decent people skills, but needs more training in execution of duties. Received multiple reminders for different appt times. One reminder came at 7am! Too early to be getting those kind of calls! A few times, they called, it rang twice and then they just hung up, noting in the file that there was "no answer". Yay, riiiight... Not having this issue anywhere else, so...it's not my phone! Wait times are nothing short of silly. They intentionally overbook, so they are always behind. I don't have time for such nonsense. I will be looking for care elsewhere.

Following his exam and testing Dr. Etebar said the only way I'd get relief was spinal fusion -- he'd have to open my back at the lower spine, make space between L5 & S1, insert a cage with donor bone, stabilize all with rods, and sew it up. I'd need 4 or 5 days in the hospital, a few months in a brace, and a longer period of no bending, lifting or twisting. I was scared but had Iittle choice. Dr. Etebar exuded confidence, his staff was professional and competent. The morning of surgery he was reassuring. The procedure took 4 or 5 hours. Later that day he insisted I get out of bed to begin his prescribed walking program, which I did. That was over 3 months ago. I've been pain-free since surgery and am returning to my old routines; the walker is only a distant memory. I highly recommend Dr. Etebar!

As a new patient, I waited six months just to get an appointment--which should have been my first warning. The La Quinta office told me I had to complete intake forms before they could schedule me. I did everything they asked, and they said they would call me back. They never did. No follow-up, no accountability. I then tried the Palm Desert office. Things seemed fine at first, but that quickly changed. They canceled my appointment with the doctor and pushed me to see a PA instead. I reluctantly agreed. On the day of the appointment, I had to call them myself because I never received any confirmation--no email, no text, nothing. When I called, the receptionist asked if I could come in earlier at 2:45. I told her I couldn't and specifically asked if 3:30 would still work or if I needed to reschedule. She clearly confirmed that 3:30 was fine. I showed up early at 3:15, only to be told the PA had already left. Instead of taking responsibility, they falsely claimed they had called me and that I said I would arrive at 3:00--which is completely untrue. At that point, it was clear they were more interested in covering their mistake than helping a patient. To make matters worse, I tried to resolve this with the office manager. She put me on hold for over 30 minutes because she was "on the phone with the pharmacy." Since when is the office manager handling pharmacy calls? I thought that was the responsibility of the nursing staff. It felt like yet another excuse and a complete waste of my time. This office is not just disorganized--it's dishonest. They waste your time, fail to communicate, and then blame you for their own failures. If this is how the practice is run, it reflects very poorly on the doctor. Patients deserve far better than this level of incompetence, lack of accountability, and disregard for their time.

This letter I sent to Eisenhower Patient Relations tells why I'm giving Dr. Wong this one-star…read morereview: To Eisenhower Patient Relations, The letter I sent to Dr. Wong through the portal, yesterday, summarizes the medical situation that I just went through: Dr. Wong, when I came to see you about what I thought was piriformis syndrome, with that large swollen area over the muscle, you gave me a Toradol shot, trigger point injection and sent me to PT, none of which helped, after which you referred me to Sports Med to get an MRI. In hindsight, sadly, all those pre-referral treatments probably aggravated the actual cause. The MRI revealed that I'd actually TORN my gluteus maximus, one-third of it, and there was a large fluid pocket above it that needed to be aspirated. Aspiration led to suspicion that the material in the fluid pocket was something requiring more testing and two days later, sports doc called me to say come into the hospital immediately, that fluid is a massive staph infection! I was released from Eisenhower Medical on Sunday after being admitted on Friday evening. Still on heavy antibiotics with a drainage tube and bag attached to my upper right butt. Swelling and pain, alone, can be a warning sign of a staph infection, according to medical literature, a warning sign sometimes mistaken as strictly muscle pain. At my age, that should have justified, for insurance, an immediate MRI that would have led to a quicker resolution and not put me at further risk of the staph getting deep into my muscles or my blood stream. Next time you see a patient with similar symptoms, you'll now know that there's the possibility of Staph as well as other options. I ended up with a too-near-death experience. I loved the other docs involved - Dr. Sanchez, Dr. Chang the interventional radiologist - but I think Dr. Wong missed this diagnosis big time and the hospital should take appropriate steps.
