Decided to visit here after a long day at Mayo Clinic based on the great reviews here and on other dining sites. We couldn't have been happier with our decision. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The staff was gracious and attentive. Best of all, the food was to die for. Portion sizes were generous and reasonably priced for the area. There's obviously a reason they've been rated the best Indian restaurant in Rochester year after year! We'll definitely be back next time we're in Rochester. read more

I stopped here for dinner based on the reviews on this site. The food was excellent. I had the Chaat app and really enjoyed it. I followed it up with one of their combination meals that had Vegi Korma, Tandoori Chicken, and Lamb Rogan Josh. Really good!!! read more

Large selection which is great if you are hungry or are new to Indian cuisine. You can try things and narrow down your future intake. The bad thing is because it is buffet styled you are subject to dry meat, under flavored food. It's not bad for the price and quantity you can potentially inhale but I may be saving my next visit to another location or to order off their menu for a more thoughtful experience. read more

I've only eaten at three Indiana restaurants before and this one hits the spot. Excellent food and perfect amount of spice. High quality meat in the curries and it's always hot and fresh when I go. If you're the brave type who likes an Indian buffet, this is an excellent one! Flavors are very good, obviously it's all-you-can-eat, and the waitstaff are very pleasant. I went with several friends of varying levels of comfort with Indian food, and all loved it. I've done takeout from them as well, and they packaged everything very nicely. I love Indian food. In fact I've tromped all over NYC trying to find the best, cheap Indian food. This place was alright. We had the chicken Mahkani and a Dal. Not the best, but not the worst. If you're looking for spicy/authentic Indian, you might be disappointed. If you just order as is, it is very mild. This is hands the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. I first tried this place with my sister we went during the lunch buffet and we loved it. The buffet had a nice salad and fruit stand and the main dishes were delicious and we kept coming back for more. The rice pudding was a perfect dessert along with a mango lasi( which you have to ask for). The service was great and very helpful with getting us drinks and picking up our old plates. Me and my family come here so much we know the owner and the employees very well. After we ate we paid for our meal which is $10 per person on the buffet which I find completely worth it. I think this restaurant is good for family lunches or a brunch date but call ahead if you are bringing a lot of people that way the service will be better. read more

Had dinner last night with my mother, the food was not very tasty. We had lamb biryani and mix grill. The lamb biryani I do not recommend it at all very tiny lamb pieces, for the mix grill only the chicken tandori was fine other things were not good. I highly advice you not to order thier mix salad we did not eat it it does it look nice and not tasty. There are not alot indian resturents here in rochester only two maybe that i know so I guess i will have to try thier buffet and I will comment on that. I only liked the bread and souce they bring for free and the nan bread that came with the mix grill. read more

Great food. The restaurant was very clean and the staff so polite. The food had just the right amount of spices. If you like vegetarian Indian cooking then this is the place to check out. Satisfies my need for Indian food for it being Rochester. Being the only Indian restaurant, this is obviously as good as it gets. I'm a little meh on the initial chutneys (some pickled red pepper? and a mint chutney) they bring out with the pappadam lentil cracker thing (If you've never been to an Indian place before, think their version of chips & salsa). -otherwise I love mint chutneys in general. So anyway. I usually order Lamb Bhuna. It's not super spicy, unless you're a spice freak--then you'll think it's nothing. It is really good from this place. Nice big portion too. The buffet isn't bad either when I've gone. I usually stick to a couple of the meat curries. Has always satisfied me in terms of selection, although that's probably an easy task. If a buffet has 2 things out of 8 that I really like, with the other 6 being complete garbage, I'm perfectly happy. That said the other 6 things are probably not garbage. :-D Actually I think I got a couple other things that tasted pretty good besides my go-tos. Always looking forward to going back. read more

We ordered food to go as it was late, to take back to our hotel. We tried the chicken tikka masala and lamb krahi. Both dishes were rich and flavorful. Our kids were trying Indian food for the first time so we were a bit nervous but we all licked our plates clean trying to get every bit of the creamy red sauce. The pillowy naan was hot, fresh and chewy and a fun alternative to a fork! We will definitely be back! read more

When in search of something flavorful and a little spicy in Rochester head for India Garden. A nice little place. Clean and with good to great service. Took my wife and father to dinner there. This was the first time my father has eaten Indian food. He isn't into spicy food and can't eat salty foods, but he enjoyed it. We had the lentil soup to start with - plenty of flavor. We hand tandoori fish (it was salmon), a lamb dish, and a vegetable dish. The fish was fair, the lamb was okay and nicely spiced, and the vegetable dish was mild with plenty of flavor. We got plenty of attention and as I explained the need for not too much salt they were plenty willing to talk, give advice, and ensure that we didn't get too much. The naan and garlic naan were pretty basic and I wouldn't rate that high. The rice was good. I have never been to India, but I have eaten plenty of Indian food in Seattle, China, England, and Ireland so while far from an expert I'm not a rookie. I was pleased and if I lived here or if I know of someone coming to visit I will recommend it to them. I would encourage the visitor to branch out and get it hot and not mild. If it is too hot stop at the DQ on the way home. read more

I was thrilled to see an extensive list of vegetarian entrees. Try the dewani handi and shahi paneer, both were so delicious! The non-vegetarian in our group (my husband) thought the mixed grill with the chicken tandoori and tikka was spectacular. The staff was friendly, yet respectful of our dining experience. I understand Royal Indian is the go-to for banquets around town but this not place is so much better and I wish people would see that. I have primarily been here only for lunch buffets. This place gets the first star for being the only restaurant in Rochester. The second star is for the wide variety in the buffet. But i would stop giving stars at that point. The food is bland. The samosas were subpar and the filling lacked seasoning. The Naans were ok but nothing to die for. I went here for lunch when I spent a day at the Mayo. I had the lunch buffet (the only option) and it was delicious. The pakoora was sooo good. I highly recommend it. And it's just a 10-15 minute walk from the Mayo if that's where you're coming from. read more

The wait staff was friendly but not enough to overcome the dated, worn, and dusty furniture and decor. The vegetarian entrees all (had four total) tasted the same and didn't have the complexity of spices that separate excellent Indian restaurants from the mediocre ones. That being said, the veggies were fresh and not over cooked, and the veggie samosas were tasty, crisp, and well seasoned. The lentil soup was flavorful and delicious. I was craving Indian food today and I usually go to the cities for my Indian food fix due to a bad first experience at Indian Garden. So today I decided to give it another try. I'm 8 months pregnant so my husband went to pick up the food. He was at the front desk and the lady completely ignored him and started taking orders from the party that just walked in even though he was there before them waiting patiently to be served. He once again greeted the lady to be acknowledged and she intentionally ignored him right there in front of her. The lady right behind him was in complete shock and she even told the the hostess at the cash register he was there first as he was still standing there in front of her. It is extremely sad and discouraging when minorities are being profiled against by other minorities. I am a white lady and I'm sure my experience would have been different if I was there tonight. I will never eat here again. You don't deserve our hard earned dollar. BE AWARE if you are a MINORITY DO NOT EAT HERE!!!! You will be served like a SECOND CLASS citizen!! read more
