I love this store. The fruit and veggie selection is full of exotic and every day items at great prices. Hard to find Asian ingredients are found here. I've never been charged more than once as some people have complained and I've not had an experience with expired food. I would like to point out that this does happen at other local grocery stores. Cultural differences, and language, probably account for other complaints about service, etc. It's a grocery store in an old space. The floors aren't very shiny any more and some other things like displays are also old. This does not make it dirty. Someone I know who works at another local grocery store chain warns me to always wash fruits and veggies (pretty much everything) as they have seen first hand many employees not washing their hands after using the bathroom. There's a time I got a bag of onions and I was charged twice. I read another comment with a similar complaint and I thought that's just strange. I was on the way to the Christmas Tree Shop and was surprised to find an Indian market in Shrewsbury, so of course I had to check it out. The market is ginormous! To the right as you walk in, you could get authentic Indian dishes to go or dine in. They have every dish you could think of and more (great deals and prices). The market was to the left. It was filled with exotic fruits, vegetables, and local ingredients typically found in India/Asia. I did not get a chance to walk through the aisles, but I will definitely next time. As for the dishes I ordered... well they were delicious. The butter chicken dish and vegetable biryani was flavorful and full of bold spices (the portions are huge!). The chicken samosas were heavenly. I definitely had my fix and was more than satisfied. I cannot wait to go back to try other items on the menu and do some shopping when visiting Massachusetts. If you are an adventurous eater or just love Indian food in general, definitely check this market out. When you're done filling your belly, simply cross over and do some shopping. Had been curious about this place for a while and finally decided to check it out. i wasn't expecting much, from the outside it seems quite small but when you go in there's lots to explore. The only good thing i have to say is that they have a huge variety of fruits and vegetables, exotic ones too! But my overall experience was really bad. The place is disgustingly dirty, seems like it has not been mopped in ages, and the smell was very strong too. The male employees will stare you down if you're a woman and will almost follow you around. The cashiers are slow and loud and the lines are unorganized. Decreasing quality day by day! Avoid goat meat. Bad customer service, rude employees. Store does not accept return for bad food/items. Always check bills against items before you leave. The vegatable quality is usually good but area is dirty and the Goat meat is most often bad and unhealthy. The goat meat used to be good earlier but now i have found the goat meat to be bad more than few times. If you are lucky you can get fresh or else they will sell you unhealthy meat which you cannot return. Store doent accept return even when the meat has foul smell before the printed sell by date. Recently, i bought the meat on May16 and it was bad(foul smelling) after a day on May17. Called the store on May 18 and talked with the manager saying the printed date mentions may22. This place is huge..really huge!! I wish this place was in quincy. I don't want to be driving an hour for groceries but if you are looking for something rare/unique spice that you are not able to find at a regular indian grocery store, you will find it here. They have a huge food section where you could buy some while leaving or order few kabobs to be cooked while you shop. By the way they have kabobs marinated and ready to be cooked. Some of the varieties you find are Paneer kabab, Spicy tilapia, Arabian tilapia, King fish, Fried pomfret, Tandoori chicken, Haryali kabob, Chicken tikka, Tangri , Spicy lamb, Arabian lamb, Lamb sheek kabob, Chicken sheek kabob, Chicken bihari, spicy chicken Tilapia to name a few. You could order any of the kabobs by skew to be cooked. The food was strictly ok but the highlight is the meat section. They have got organic chicken, desi chicken, lamb, goat and all kinds of fish - Black pomfret, Red snapper, Hilsha, Mirgal, Koral to name a few. The prices are pretty descent. I love experiencing different cultures and different foods and you can certainly do that at India World. Each time I go in there, I find some new product or soda or spice that I never heard of before. I love trying new things and can say that this place is HUGE and chock full of interesting stuff ... from perfumed soaps to the Indian version of Pepsi (Thumbs Up Cola) ... there are products here that are probably very hard to find outside of India. (they also seem to have a lot of South American/Mexian stuff) The produce department is the star of the show! How can you argue with fresh cilantro 2 bunches for a buck? One bunch at the local supermarket is at least $1.50. They also have produce and fruits that you don't often see in your local supermarket. Dragon fruit and even whole Jack Fruits (giant spiked melons which grow on trees) They have curry and mango leaves and all kinds of different fruits and vegetables like super long green beans. You could probably shop here for months before trying every interesting cola or candy bar that is not sold here in the US. The store smells of incense and is almost other worldly. Most of the shoppers are Indian and I will say that the employees do make me feel uncomfortable/unwelcome at times. Almost like, 'what are you doing here gringo?' Nobody that works there is really friendly towards me but then the person in back of me in line they will smile and converse with. I have not yet eaten at the Café/Food court because it is kind of intimidating for a first timer. (and looks a bit dirty quite honestly.) There are so many choices from which you can order, it's a bit daunting. I heard that you can also get kebobs specially cooked for you while you shop. That sounds cool. The store's bathroom might be one of the dirtiest bathrooms I've ever been in but for the most part, the store portion is pretty clean. They have a dessert case with lots of inexpensive Indian desserts and they have all kinds of imported ice creams in the freezer section. If you are a person who loves to travel and experience new things, this would be a great place to walk around. You never know what you might find. This rating is for the restaurant only, I love the actual store and the halal meat and groceries are great! The restaurant: Went on a Sunday afternoon and they were still trying to get set up 11:30. I asked a few workers what time they open up and they said 11. That was disappointing especially since I drove 45 mins to get there. I asked how long till I can order and they said a little bit, so vague. I waited for 30 mins and other customers were coming but no service. I finally put an order in got my food at 12:30pm. Also, it's kinda annoying that everything is microwaved, or refried (samosas, pakoras, and mirchi). I have to say tho the fresh naans and the South Indian food are made to order and don't disappoint. The "chef" behind the kitchen that runs the kitchen, is rude and doesn't know anything about customer service. Pre-COVID it was convenient location to grab some veggies, milk, and microwavable somosas. Post-COVID, it's far too crowded every time I go. I'm constantly having to walk by people less than 1 foot of separation. Families are coming in with masks pulled down beneath their chin and noses. It felt like I was standing in a pitri dish. While the selection is huge and the shop is clean, their covid control has been consistently slap dash throughout the pandemic and has only got worse of late. Despite a town ordinance mandating mouth coverings in October 2021, most customers were maskless and not challenged at the entrance. Worst customer service. We bought few things and while trying to manage my 4 yr old we forgot to pick a bag with our items. After we realized once we reached home we called store and spoke to manager. The manager told us its customers responsibility to ensure all items are collected and not store. The caahier apparently is too busy to help customer in such case. We had a simlar scenario at wegmans few months back not only they apologized for cashiers mistake they also gave a cashback of $10. This store is great! They carry many brands from across the world (Morocco, Turkey, etc) and the times I've purchased halal meats I have been very pleased with the quality. Also their selection of spices is out of this world! I oftentimes will go there just to stock up on the reasonably priced (large quantity) spices. This store is a must try for everyone! read more

Live worms in packaged food. Stale food with no expiry dates mentioned to mislead customers into buying it. SMR brand tamarind - live worms inside. Lakshmi Brand Idly rice, live worms inside. Godavari brand rice flour - selling stale flour , Roasted channa dhal Godavari brand - Stale (no expiry date any of the products listed above). Look at the video below for the live worms. Also showing around the packaging to show that there is no expiry dates on any of these items. When called, the store asked for a receipt. We go there every week almost and it is impossible to hold the receipt. I was willing to produce the credit card i used to pull the receipt. They refused. Finally they said, you can right any number of reviews you want and complain to anyone but they are not going to take it back. It is not about making a refund for an item, it is about the quality of the product that you sell or someone buys, which the store refuse to acknowledge. Please note... this is an INDIAN store that is run and managed by INDIANS/PAKISTANIS etc., so if you seek an "American Shopping Experience" then this is not the place for you! Variety of things offered is off the charts! You will not be able to find the sheer volume and variety in any other store in the Greater Boston Area, maybe in the entire Northeast. I have found things here in abundance that I haven't even seen elsewhere. I don't care much for the in-house restaurant though. I have had far better experiences elsewhere. I've visited several times, Their prices are very competitive with a very comprehensive line of Indian and Pakistani grocery. They have a house ware line towards the back where they have many high quality kitchen utensils, cookware etc with great brands like Super Shyne Hawkins etc. I was also impressed with their sheer variety of frozen ready to eat foods. I literally just left store and had a disturbing experience with an male employee in the oil section. I went to purchase a gallon of frying oil and I noticed when I picked one of the oil jugs that the sealed top was opened. I went about picking another oil jug and found another one top that was open. The employee was watching me and started arguing with me. Forced me to show him one that was opened. When I did he grabbed the top of oil jug from my hand and didnt apologize. Overall I felt harassed and completely uncomfortable. I was a regular customer to this store. But now, i am not. The main reason is, I don't see Pkd.dt & Best before date on most of the products and I had to return the things couple of times as they were sold even after expiration date. I don't know why the items in this store don't have packaged and expiry dates while the same products in other stores do. The other reason is the girl at billing counter. She doesn't even greet the customers and shows her arrogant attitude as if she is the boss. She has to be taught how to behave with customers. This was a nice surprise in this area. Seemingly hidden below Christmas Tree Shop is an Indian supermarket with a food court attached. Spices, sauces, meats, great deals on fresh produce, frozen foods, breads, kitchen supplies and pretty much any kind of rice you can imagine can be found here. Even if you're not a fan of Indian food (although I'd suggest to keep an open mind and try a few different things) still shop here for your produce. Everything from your standard fruits and veggies found in American supermarkets can be found here more fresh and at killer prices. Example: at $0.99/lb, I snagged a giant chunk of ginger for $0.14. Imagine paying with a quarter and receiving change! The food court is also a nice surprise. You can pick out prepared meals (curries, kebabs, puffs and samosas) behind the glass counter that they will heat up for you or you can choose some made-to-order treats like dosas and a variety of parathas and chats. Some of the tables at the food court seem to be a bit dirty from not being wiped down, but I was able to find at least a few without crumbs or spills. I'd probably avoid the bathroom here (outside the entrance) and use the one upstairs in the Christmas Tree Shop. read more

Check your receipt! I have been shopping here for few years now and almost always they will overcharge or incorrectly charge you for something. I typically lose $5 dollars every trip. It's far from my house so making another trip doesn't make change and if you thinking calling will help, it won't. This is my heaven on earth! I would highly recommend hot & spicy dishes, as well as vegan ones, in the deli. Best deal price wise is rice & two selections of curry. Fried Arabian tilapia is also quite tasty, & have never had trouble with the manners of any of the store/restaurant personnel. Some days produce selections are better than others, and I'm embarrassed to admit I have a limited knowledge of metric to English conversion, so one product I really wanted I was reluctant to buy as directions on the box were in metric.
