    Combination Villakebab

I came here for lunch on a weekday and it was not too busy. I was immediately greeted by the worker who sat my wife and I, the proceeded to bring us a menu on their iPad. They did have a QR menu to scan in case you wanted to look on your own devices. We ordered the Combination Villakebab and Munto Dumplings (Beef) to share. After a short wait, the owner brought out a salad for us. I believe this was included with the Combination Villakebab that we ordered. The vegetables tasted fresh and the sauce was flavorful. Shortly, the chef himself brought out the Munto Dumplings. We got the beef. I had Chinese, Korean, and Japanese dumplings before but never Afghan dumplings. They tasted different but nonetheless delicious. They have a sauce put on top that resembles some form of chickpeas. The Combination Villakebab plate that came later was amazing! Very juicy kebab meats! They brought some sauces for us. I really enjoyed the spicy sauce, but all were very pleasant. I felt very welcomed at this restaurant as the owner was very attentive and friendly. Atmosphere is nice and quiet. Highly recommend giving this place a try.

I have no words but to say zooo weee maaamaa. If I may speak a bit in genz-z, this would was not ohio, striaght up bussin from every aspect. The owner and employees were nice and friendly. The chai there had just the right amount of sugar and milk with a memorable aroma. I was filled and sad I couldn't eat even more.

When arriving at this restaurant, you are quickly seated. We sat at a table of four in the center of the establishment which was nice because we could see the chef cooking meals in the back. We did notice not many people working, so the food and service was a bit on the slower end. The food was amazing; my friends and I each got a mixed plate and this dumpling-like dish to share. The flavors of the plate were amazing and paired well together. The portion is quite large, so it will definitely fill you up or you'll have a second meal saved for another day. It reminded me of halal guys to some extent but the flavors were more refined. The sauces elevated the overall dish; they are not immediately found at your table, so you will need to request it from the server. Dumpling-like dish was tasty. The filling was a beef filling and was juicy. The chickpea curry was a great touch to round out the saltiness of the filling. Would recommend trying this appetizer if you are willing to spend a couple extra dollars.

Everything was so tasty!! The food was warm, delicious and reasonable. The owner was informative and friendly, with quick service. I got the beef dumplings at his suggestion: the dumplings were tender, the meat was a mix of beef with herbs, and served with lentils and a lentil sauce (I think) over a white sauce base. The chicken was red from spices, cooked prior to serving on kebabs, served on a bed of long grain rice with raisins & carrots, and served with three sauces: 1) white is yogurt?/mayo/sour cream with herbs, 2) green is cilantro/jalapeno & 3) the red is a habanero. They are all very tasty! Afghan (I assume) music is playing and it is generally an open room for dining. This is a convenient quick walk from the Hotel Palomar. I also got a chai to go. I paid $47.93 including a 20+% tip - reasonably priced!

First time trying Afghanistan food! The flavoring is so unique, not like anything I've tasted before. We ordered the - Munto dumplings: amazing, highly recommend - Borani Banjan: amazing but very little for the $$ - Lamb Kabob: delicious, meat was so juicy Everything was so flavorful I enjoyed every dish. We ordered take out but the interior design of this place is pretty classy. I was surprised since my first impression was this is a fast casual kebab place. Afghanistan kebab is so different. The rice platter came with pickled carrots and raisins which adds a nice hint of sweetness to the savory dish. He provided a green sauce and a white sauce which paired really well with the food. I would definitely come back again to try different items and get the munto dumplings again! I'm also obsessed with their seasoning for the kebabs. The reason for 4 star is this place is a bit overpriced for the quantity you're getting. Also I was supposed to get a side salad with my lamb kebab platter but they forgot. (Oh well) However the owner is so friendly I would love to continue to come support his business. Tip: don't forget to ask for their special sauce! The white sauce he gave me was delicious

I came to Rittenhouse Sq recently. I happened to park across the street from here. One of my favorite foods to eat is kebab. So this tempted me in a big way. I had to try it for lunch. One thing that surprised me was the decor. Outside it looks very basic which I actually like. But inside it looks a little more trendy and flashy. It's the best of both worlds. The service was very friendly and attentive. I have to give them props there. I like the family atmosphere and they have that going for them. But what matters in the end is the food. And everything from flavor to freshness to presentation to portion size was absolutely top notch. I've had a couple of other Afghan places in the city and this is as good as any of them.

Omfg the chicken and lamb were so tender fr fr 10/10. The sauce was great but not spicey enough so I asked for more hot sauce and they quickly brought me an assortment! The greatest part of dinner however was the app. The hummus was so fresh and the olive were AMAZINGGGGG. Also idk what they put in their yogurt dip but u get this numbing sensation immediately that reminded me of Szechuan spice ??? SO COOL !!!!! Falafel will haunt my dreams in the best way possible. Well deserving of their 5/5 rating. Atmosphere wise, very clean. Only a few tables for larger parties but the host was very accommodating. Alsooooooo Some of the best bang for your buck I've found in philly for quality food. *chefs kiss*

The chicken and rice was really flavorful here. I love the atmosphere it's spacious and clean. The service was really good and I was happy. They did have french fries for a little kids. My kids are very picky with their rice but they truly enjoyed it.

We had two lamb shanks and one combo platter (chicken + lamb) and they were both amazing! The lamb shank with the rice with sweet potato is delicious and the meat simply falls off the bone. Delicious! The combo platter is a cheaper option and it has lamb (think gyro slices of meat) and chicken. You can also add on sauce onto your plate. It's a sit down restaurant and may take a little time for your order, but it's worth it! Giving this place five stars!

Gave Villekebabs a try for takeout and found it to be a quality meal. Had the chicken kebab platter. Chicken was delectable, super moist and flavorful, really enjoyed every piece. Would have liked there to be a bit more chicken relative to rice in the platter - felt the meal was a bit too heavy on the rice. I like the afghan rice as well, with its flavorful accompaniments and sauces. Salad was very simple, could have also been a bit larger. Overall really quality food / takeout option, but could have gotten a bit more value-wise for the chicken platter.

Praise Jesus these beautiful friends moved to America and bought their INCREDIBLE cuisine with them . I'm not even kidding when I say this was by FAR above and beyond ANY middle eastern food I've ever had before in my life . Hell this is some of the best food I've had anywhere in the world and definitely my favorite simple fare . Best meal in a very long time . For starters , though I've had my fair share of "middle eastern " (it's such a pity to kobble this into that catch all phrase . AFGHANI food ....is totally different flavor profile than I'm used to . It's like a celebration in your mouth . The SAUCES! The succulent meats like nothing I've ever tasted before , the rice with carrots --CARROTS and raisins ( I don't even like either ) Oh my GAWD . Seriously , why aren't you here NOW? Please please please , patronize these beautiful people so they stay open as a small business . Such a pleasant surprise atmosphere too ! Service is excellent and please remember perfection takes TIME and can't be rushed . They are doing EVERYTHING themselves ...waiting tables , cooking ...be patient and you won't regret it . Had dumplings --again so unique and like nothing I've ever tasted . Grilled platter. Lamb not gamey at all like some lamb . Chicken clean breast cut , kefta superb . 20 out of 10!!!!

There are some stellar, multidimensional reviews of Zahav on this site - for example, Bunker B's…read moremagnificent contribution.. I urge you to read that for an comprehensive, informed description of Zahav's place in the culinary scene. Here I offer a more quotidian review, with the emphasis on practical tips. I am going to cut to the chase: the pomegranate lamb shoulder is the stuff dreams are made of. Tender and tart. Accompanied by sides that are a work of art in themselves: fluffy Persian rice with a perfect crust. Greens with the right amount of sweet and sour to balance the other two components. The composed dish beautifully thought out and executed. And a little extra pickle just in case. Zahav has commissioned a red wine specifically to accompany the lamb, so be sure to order the Galia Dabouki if you get the lamb. Now for some practical suggestions: unless you have a hearty appetite, do not attempt the four-course menu. You will fill yourself on hummus, salads and dips and mezze, and by the time you get to the star of the show - the pomegranate lamb shoulder - you will barely have room for more than a few bites. I suggest you go a la carte, and pick wisely from the first two courses. I am even going to be heretical and suggest you skip the hummus. Yes, I know Zahav's hummus is famous. Maybe you can pick some up at Whole Foods to eat at a different time. Even the salatim - as masterful as they are - have by now been reproduced at other Israeli restaurants that have caught up to Zahav's Israeli avant garde. So if you ask me: pick from the mezze list and go on to the lamb. And about getting reservations: if you are a planner, go ahead and snag a reservation by going online exactly four weeks in advance as the website explains. But if you want to be more spontaneous, you can get a seat at the bar as a walk-in. You do need to arrive early for that. The day we were there - a weeknight in July - the line started to form a little before 5pm, that is, a little before the restaurant's opening time. Everyone in the line at that time got to be seated, and there were still plenty of spots that only gradually filled up. No doubt on the weekend you would need to get in line a bit earlier, but it is entirely possible to do this without an advance reservation. So now I am looking forward to taking my own advice. I am plotting my return, and going in for the star of the show, the hell with opening acts.
