We stayed at Indian Springs as we wanted to do a couple things in Jackson (about 10-15 mins away). Pros: -the park is beautiful! -Several trails to hike and an old cemetary to explore. -The spring -Visitor Center is a beautiful old building. Staff was very pleasant. -Camp hosts keep the place so clean and neat -Bathrooms were amazing! 2 stalls (one regular and one handicap) and 2 showers (one regular and one handicap). These were spotless. -Really neat kids playground in the new section Cons: -The road in is windy and VERY narrow. -New section: The sites are spacious but man... Not sure who designed it. All the pull thrus had slopes. We actually disconnected the Jeep and backed into our pull thru site as we may have bottomed out trying to actually pull in forward. The spot where the patio is was level and long enough for our 40' bus, but the jeep was on a slant when parked either in front or behind the coach. We saw this in most of the sites. I think if we stayed in the new section again, we'd chose one of the back in sites. -Hook ups were near the front of the site. Good thing we have long hoses! Park is great new. Campground is not shady. but it's easier and cheaper to run water, sewer and power that way. The new trees that are planted are growing as fast as they can. Nice playground for the kids. Very clean showers with ceiling fan for the summer heat. There are spiders, snakes and frog around but they live there your just a visitor. Park ranger are wonderful office ladies are extremely nice. read more

It's been a while since we've visited. Although the museum was small, the information shared was interesting. The museum is also air conditioned and dog friendly. In fact, most of the park is dog friendly, as lo g as they're leashed. We had a great time meeting other visitors while filling up water jugs from the spring. The park rangers were all very friendly, and visitor center had some items on display, as well as, a nice selection of items to purchase. There were a lot of people enjoying the water and relaxing on the rocks. They have a minigolf/putt putt area across from the visitor center, and a couple of playgrounds. Bathrooms were clean. Although we didn't visit the campground area, we did see it from tbe road. It looked nice, and they also had cabins. There are also plenty of picnic areas. You do have to pay for parking or pick up a pass, and there are park rangers giving out notices for vehicles without passes. You can scan a qr code or or pay at the visitor center. read more

We love going there for fishing and camping. They have very nice cottages to rent as well. People come miles to get the water.

Pretty grounds. Got out and walked to the running creek. Drove through a pretty patch of fall colored trees and walked through a couple stone structures although I don't know what they were originally used as. Would have liked to taste the natural spring water from the pump but there was a line of jugs waiting to be filled although there is a sign stating only a couple gallons per person. This obviously isn't regulated and a couple women were filling numerous gallons and still filling up even when we were walking back to our car. read more

Oldest state park in Georgia, this is a great place to camp or spend the day exploring with the family. Come for the natural springs or spend the day kayaking on Lake Macintosh. You cannot swim in the lake, but small paddle craft or boats with electric motors are allowed. I camped in site 14 which was wooded and lovely. Very much enjoyed my stay here. read more

If you're looking for a hike, Indian Springs State Park is not the place or you. If you want some unfiltered natural spring water, then come here! We came on a rainy day but that did not stop us from checking out the park. From what I understand, Indian Springs State Park is more known for the unfiltered natural spring water. Many people also come to the park to camp and attend the venues that hold weddings. While driving around, we saw hubby's co-worker, he says he come at least once a month to the area. He camps and get the unfiltered natural spring water. As early as 8 am, there is already a line. We had small gallon containers while others were prep with their 10 gallon containers! They were really nice to us and let us cut in line. Since it is unfiltered natural spring water, it is sulfur and has a rotten egg smell. The guys there advised that the smell would go away in a few days but won't taste like it. All this is free! Yes, F-R-E-E Since the park is a state park, there is a $5 parking fee. That's it. Not bck. Then go down the street and check out High Fall State Park in the same day! The waterfall is not far from the parking lot either! 11/2020 read more

Super great park with a nice view! The campsites are rather close to one another but it's a very gorgeous place. There's an old cemetery that was neat to look at. If you decide to taste the spring water, be warned, it honestly takes like eggs and I'm not even lying. The people here were super friendly and helpful!! If you visit the Georgia state Parks and Historic Sites website, you will see this statement: "Indian Springs State Park is one of the oldest state parks in the nation, drawing people to its mineral rich healing waters and tranquil natural setting, offering you a journey through time from its Creek Indian origins to the stone buildings built by the CCC." [Civilian Conservation Corps] It is said that for centuries the Creek Indians believed these mineral spring waters had healing power, and so did the colonizers that took over the area and built resorts in the 1800's. Actually, there were a lot of waters believed to have healing properties in South Georgia. 58 miles west via GA-18 brings you to Warm Springs, a town made most famous by President Franklin Roosevelt. After discovering he had polio in 1921, he used the 88-degree natural spring pool to bath and exercising in. Because if his illness while president, he spent a great amount of time in Warm Springs and the house he stayed soon became known as the Little White House, which is now a public museum. Warm Springs is also one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Georgia, if that adds any value to your curiosity for this area. William McIntosh, who built the hotel and signed the treaty, was killed by outraged tribesmen at his Carroll County home. It was very peaceful, though not too crowded on a Sunday afternoon. It's located off the main roads enough so there's not a lot of car traffic noise. Definitely a nice little day trip! Indian Springs State Park was a visit because it's very close to High Falls, and I figured i'd pay both a visit. I'd only been to Indian Springs State Park once before, but didn't remember much about it. The park has two distinct personalities. Near the pay area, there's a very beautiful area of stone buildings and structures, that are all done by hand from walls to stairs to the enclosure that protects the regenerative springs, and all of these structures are accessible to those who just want a quick tour or something different to do on the weekend (although during my visit, many were closed to the public). Speaking of the regenerative spring, people come from miles away to fill up jugs (for free) of the water, because the story goes that the springs keep you young if you drink it. I did give it a try, and I can't lie, it's sulfur strong, as in it tastes like boiled eggs water, but hey, try it yourself and I hope it works for you! The second personality of Indian Springs is the hiking trails. There's a really quick 3/4 mi trail near the front of the park, but beside the grassy parking lot across from the museum is the multi purpose trail for biking, hiking, walking, you name it, just no motorized vehicles. The Multi purpose trail is 3.25 mi one way (if you want to walk to the Dauset Trails Nature Center), and is an in and out trail instead of a loop trail. If you DO want to walk to the Dauset Nature center, know that it's an additional 0.5 mi trail to Dauset (and yes, another 0.5 mi out of dauset). Long story short here, you're looking at a 7.5 mi round trip hike. The trail is a mostly a natural dirt trail with some hills to climb, nothing crazy, but enough to make you break a sweat. The trail parallels Mcintosh Lake for a good portion of the trail, although I do recommend going in the winter, because it was hard to see with all the leaves on the trees. The trails also have a lot of large tree roots, so be careful so you don't roll an ankle. I initially thought that the trail was poorly labeled, but at half mile and quarter mile increments, depending, there are signs that let you know how far along you are. With that said, this isn't really a spectacular trail to hike. Sure, you'll see the lake through the trees, but there's nothing memorable to see, and really dead ends to a gravel road (that leads to Dauset Trails) I do think there's lots to see and do here at Indian Springs State park regardless on if you want to hike or get a casual photo taking fun day in. I hope you get to enjoy it for yourself. read more

Great for camping and for a day away from Atlanta. This park is my favorite park for camping as it is clean and an easy drive from Atlanta. The staff here is very nice and the rangers always wave when they pass you on the road. There is a natural spring here that people come from as far as Alabama to get water as it is known for healing powers. The park has lots of places to picnic, swim in the lake, play a game of put put and have fun! The bathrooms at the camp sites are very clean but bring your own hand soap to wash up as it was empty. read more

This park is a great escape from the city life. Cottages and camping grounds. Plenty of security through out the park to keep it safe. Enough grounds for picnic, barbeque. There's swimming at the lake. Location is about 15 min drive off 75 and not too far from the outlets. Bathrooms are dirty but not as bad as Starlight Drive In - thank god. Lodging options are via RVs, cottages or tents. Good place for the family and/or friends to rendevous, enjoy nature and have an excellent time away from the city. Grade B read more

Ok, first I love this park, we have been going here for years. We had a wedding here in the stone pavilion, the reception in the hall by the lake it was beautiful. For the price you get a good bit of stuff. The stone pavilion was so beautiful, huge area they have a big kitchen and eating area at one end and a huge room at the other end great for dressing getting ready. The hall is where we had the reception huge room with a big kitchen and open bar/window to serve out of. It was big enough for 100 seating and dance area. Joel was the park ranger who took all the garbage for us, he is also a stickler for getting out on time But a great guy. Such a great wedding and a beautiful place to have it. read more

I love going to Indian Springs to enjoy nature and play on the rocks in the river. There is a lake for fishing, areas to camp, a venue for weddings, putt putt and a playground. It makes a great back drop for photography as well. read more

Beautiful Georgia park. We were nearby at another state park and decided to drive over and check this place out. Not crowded at all. Easy parking and very clean and nice creek with rocky shoals providing a nice backdrop for a wedding that was happening while we were there. The trails were not marked very well and kinda confusing. We hiked 3 miles in thinking it would lead back to where we started. We'll it led in another trail system and we had poor cell service so I had no idea where we were. So in the interest of time we hiked back the same way we came in. The trail led around a nice lake with some pretty steep up and down hills. It was very beautiful but no great waterfalls or other things to see. Also, watch out for bikers, it doubles as a mountain bike trail. I'm glad we stopped by, it was worth a look-see, I just wish the trail map/markers were a little more clear. read more

I went to this place after a serious concussion. My spirits were down and I was feeling pretty low before I came here. The park is very peaceful and quiet and gave me just what I needed for a relaxing weekend. Grounds are beautiful and you can take up to 25 gallons of water before leaving the park- the water is said to have healing powers ana extra minerals. I love the state park system in Georgia. There are over 60 available to visit in some capacity or another and as a pop-up camper family we try to stay at as many as we can. Indian Springs was one of the most welcoming of all though. Our site was well shaded and because we chose the HOTTEST weekend of 2012 (so far) to visit (July 4th weekend) we were looking for any and all shade. The spots lean to the "back up" spectrum rather than pull through although there are a few. They are packed gravel with complete hookups. I know there are some tent sites available as well as some pioneer sites as well so it seems like anyone can camp at the Springs. We were within a city block of the bathhouse and I was surprised at how clean it actually was. The toilet paper was stocked, the paper towels were ample, and there were relatively few bugs (daddy long legs, mosquitos, etc). The park office was quite nice too welcome you as you drove into the park. There they had a good selection of ice cream and "man, I forgot that" type stuff. Customer service was above par as well. Add to it all the swimming area at the lake, the picnic grounds, the miniature golf course, the cottages, etc. and you have a really great state park facility for a really great price! Oh, and don't forget to plug your nose and get a swallow of the spring water. It really is pretty amazing. Completely unimpressed. GA has a great park system but this has got to be the worst I've ever visited!! I was here for a wedding and truly it has a lot of great potential to be a wonderful facility because SOME of the facilities are gorgeous and scenic. HOWEVER, between the unkempt cottages and terrible attitudes of the park staff, I never want to visit there again!! The wedding party rented multiple cottages to accommodate numerous out of state family but the park rangers were constantly coming by to check on how many people were physically at each cottage. Each cottage can fit 8 people comfortably but if you wanted to have guests "congregate" you could not do it at the cottage - you had to rent a shelter or pavilion. Any time that there were more than 8 people at an individual cottage, the park ranger copped and attitude and threatened us. I understand that they are looking out for the happiness of all the guests but it was a nightmare. The wedding party and family kept to themselves, kept every area clean and were not loud or destructive. The cottage was ridiculous, especially the kitchen. I have no idea how many cockroaches there were that were crawling around and on the stove. Personally, I am glad that I spent my money in Jackson at a hotel where the atmosphere was enjoyable and laid back. read more

Pros: Beautiful hiking trails nearby (at least 3 miles one-way), beautiful, shady piney forest (says the girl who lives in sunny, swampy Florida), beautiful lake, quiet area. This alone makes this place excellent to visit. Cons: I must not have camped at a lot of state parks before . Dislike putting a tent on the gravel. Don't forget your thermarest. Also, iirc, Florida includes park entry fees in the camping fee. Georgia does not? I thought it was a bit stinky to have to pay the additional $5 per car, after we already booked the campsites. And they offer guided walks -- for a fee. For a fee? Seriously? This is the first state park that I've been to like that. But I guess I shouldn't have been surprised since they did have a gift shop. The Indian Spring itself is lack luster -- the sulfur water is interesting, but the enclosure with the water drizzling from a PVC pipe into a drain in the floor -- yawn. The mosquitoes were not a problem, but we were overwhelmed by ticks. No big deal, it's summer in Georgia. read more

As avid pop-up campers my family has stayed at nearly all of the GA state parks that are w/in a 2hr drive from Atl. We all agree that Indian Springs is our favorite, hands down. There's a surprisingly long list of potential activities in the adjacent old-style mainstreet, too (be sure to stroll thru their truly unique gardens w/ the kids!). The hubby'd probably make the drive for the handmade fudge/icecream shoppe alone (we're talking the REAL deal, not that corporate Kilwin's fudge crap)! Just a short drive away we also love to visit Noah's Ark wildlife refuge (I haven't yet convinced the fam to let me stop @ the nearby Tanger Outlet mall, though I'm sure it's great too) But having stuff to do is only half of what makes for a good campground (the Stone Mtn "parking lot effect" taught us that!) As with other state campgrounds, Indian Springs also offers an excellent selection of roomy sites (most of which are a reasonable distance from neighbors). It's the combination of those crucial elements that earns this park all 5 stars! read more

This is a spacious park with a great range of amenities suitable for family camping, picnics, and large group activities. The lake here is small but very scenic. Swimming is limited to a public beach area which was closed. Although we spent an afternoon exploring, the staff here was not very visitor-oriented. In the winter season the park museum and other exhibits are closed up entirely. If this site has importance, visitors this time of year don't have a chance to learn much! So we left early and enjoyed the rest of the weekend at nearby High Falls Lake. If you visit this region be sure to plan for spring or summer when this park is better staffed and open for business. read more

The park itself is usually very clean and well kept but if you rent this venue for your special day there are a couple of things to consider. 1.) Rental of the pavilion doesn't cover the the steps that lead down to the spring house or the spring house itself, so you will have to depend on the courtesy of your fellow man (which is a joke unto itself these days) to keep your wedding a private affair or keep the public out of any photos you plan on taking near the spring house. Most people would show a little courtesy to you on your wedding day......unfortunately for this wedding we got self centered low lives that day. 2.) Park Rangers. As with any state park you will have to deal with park rangers and in most cases it isn't that bad of an ordeal.....Indian Springs does employ a couple of very nice park rangers that were very courteous and helpful to us throughout the year as we prepared. However, they do have one or two who clearly have a chip on their shoulders and don't mind interrupting your special day with things that have nothing to do with your wedding at all. For example...the bride and groom were threatened with an interruption of their wedding or their reception due to a balance owed on a cabin rental by one of their wedding party. Not the grooms and brides cabin specifically but someone else who rented another cabin on site that was part of the wedding party. There was an incident just before the wedding ceremony (literally minutes before) where one of the people who were helping with set up of the wedding politely asked a few public patrons in the spring house to vacate for maybe 15 minutes while we finished up ceremony and photos. They refused, at which point the groom politely asked them to leave to which they answered that they weren't waiting 15 to 20 minutes to get their water (which they were bottling from the natural spring.) The groom responded exactly how you would expect and told them exactly what he thought of them in a very colorful way. Shortly after the ceremony ended a park ranger who was apparently friends with one of the patrons in question interrupted, and began threatening the groom with charges of Disorderly Conduct if he did not apologize to the people he had words with. The ranger did all of this before even bothering to question the groomsmen who were standing mere feet away from the incident in question. We found out later on that the ranger actually wanted to interrupt the ceremony itself but was talked out of that by one of the folks helping us setup. Eventually the groom issued an apology just to settle the situation down and all ended well but the entire scenario was pretty ridiculous. Overall the Stone Pavilion is an easy to use and easy to setup venue but all it takes is 1 rotten egg to spoil it for you and which ranger you get is dependent on the schedule of the rangers. If you get one of the good ones, with courteous public, your day will be great, but if you get the power tripping ranger with low life public patrons, well, things can get interesting. read more

I tent camped here with my friends and our dogs mid September. I was not that impressed but depending on what you are looking for i think it could be favorable to others. Tents are required to be on gravel pads which we didn't like and it was strictly enforced. If you have an RV the camp sites are really nice. The bath house was really clean, several times i went in it smelled like it had just been cleaned, and toilet paper, paper towels and hand soap were well stocked. some of the nicest shower area i have seen anywhere. The swimming beach is closed after labor day and no swimming is permitted any where else on the lake. even if the beach were open dogs are not allowed so it would have been useless to me. There is not really any where except the shallow, rocky creek where you can let your dog get in the water. The mini golf was nice but needed acorns swept off of it, it is probably better kept up during the busy season, before labor day. The multipurpose trail is pretty nice, it has distance markers every quarter mile and is in good condition for hiking with the dogs or mountain biking. If you have kids there is a playground. The spring house was packed with people filling up gallons of water, and the water smells very strong of sulfur. It is a nice park but i live 3 hours away so i probably will not return. It was just not the right place for a tent camper and a dog who loves water. A family with kids and a camper i think would really enjoy it. read more
