They were helpful with maps & state park & beach info. Got some amazing Fluid coffee beans to take home.

This visitor center is small but it is clean and it has bathrooms, water bottle filling station, information, and a small store.

This is the eastern view of the Indiana dunes. It is kind of confusing because the national park is the west portions several miles away. My personal favorite is the Indiana state park side which is the east side. The photos included in this review are of the east side which is considered the state park. This is my favorite place to watch the sunset. There are several Great hikes. If you visit the visitor center and walk along the beach for a few minutes west, you will see a really large tower. This is a place where you can go up and have a look at birds (I think it's actually a birdwatching tower) and there is a beautiful hike through a pretty wildflower field south west of this tower. We saw cacti, so many native plants, more monarch butterflies than I could count in such a variety of birds. We stayed until the sunset. Do you want to make sure to get there 20 minutes before the sunset and find a place to sit down and just enjoy it. You will have an enjoyable time for about 45 minutes watching the sky change colors over the water. It is hard to believe that you were in Indiana because the waves sound just like the ocean. I am so glad that this area has been preserved by the national park service and the state park system. It is truly a treasure for the state of Indiana.

One of the best visitor's center I've ever experiences. They hit all the check marks: -Plenty of parking -Friendly docents -Gift shop with lots of goodies -Get your NPS stamp -Well-manicured exterior with awesome art installations -Plenty of exhibits inside of the surrounding area and its history -Evidently, it's also the place to be during a tornado 0_0 Must-stop place before visiting Indiana Dunes.

Avoid the crowds and come early. Nice visitors center with small interpretive center. A little gift shop to browse in and plenty of restrooms. Stop here to start your adventure and check to see which beaches are open.

This is a very pretty building. They have accomplished a great job to incorporate gardens in the front to cover the ditch line, the buffalo statute is fun and inviting and I wish I had had time to complete looking at all the painted murals. This information center is fun and inviting. The inside has very friendly and the knowledgeable staff will answer any questions you have and add extra pointers on your map. You can purchase park passes here too. However we found we would not need them for our beach adventures. In the back of the center there is a small gift shop. We did not have much time to look; but they had a lot about star gazing from what I could see. They sold beverages and light snack items. The center also had very clean restrooms and drinking fountains. In the back of the grounds their is a picnic area.

We recently roadtripped our way to Indiana for a couple days at Indiana Dunes National Park. The visitor center was our first stop during our couple days in the area. We headed straight to the park ranger information desk to get some tips on how to best spend our time in the park. The ranger we spoke with was very informative. Our daughter was interested in picking up trash, and the ranger was also helpful to give us some bags and complimentary water bottles that are a thank you for helping to pick up garbage. Also in the visitor center is a gift shop, where we picked up some souvenirs. The visitor center also runs a documentary film on the half hour that explains the historical and biodiversity significance of the park. Indiana Dunes National Park is actual the newest in the country, just garnering its National Park upgraded recognition as of 2019. If you are traveling to the Dunes, the visitor center is a great first stop to get your bearings, speak with rangers, learn about the park, and pick up some keepsakes.

Nice visitor center with helpful free brochures about the area. If you are new to the area I recommend stopping here first for information on the dunes area.

This is your first visit coming into the National Park. Nice visitor center. I was greeted by a ranger who was super friendly and gave me a lot of ideas to plan the day. The facility was clean and had a gift shop.

If only my daughter gave me a heads up. I'm now prepared for our next hike, future Yelp coming. This event was supposed to be for a different day, a weekday. Time permitting, I recommend a weekday to visit. It was an hour wait just to get into the park on a beautiful Saturday. (We were warned by the team at the visitor center, but decided to do it anyway). Few dining choices, but WOW, look at all the beach BBQ set ups. I almost asked to join a few. Atmosphere - What a beautiful day today. The hike got better and easier when we got to the trees with shade. Hiking on the beach was just too hot for me. Well again, I did not dress for this event... 15,000 acres, 50 miles of trails, 300 mile lake. Please see the pictures. Open 7 days a week, Yelp hours differ, check with the park. Swimming hours from 11am to 6pm, well that is when there are lifeguards. Events and activities, see pictures or websites. Public showers and bathrooms - Keep in mind there are thousands of people using these, so the conditions reflect that. Service - Small helpful visitor center, see pictures. Also with a Yelp check-in, you get 5 free postcards. They convinced us to go to the state park rather than the national park. Good thing because I left my annual national park pass in my truck in CA. Price - $12 a car, discount for locals ($7). If you walk from the visitor center, $2 a person, but that is a 2+ mile walk each way, in the hot sun! Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1986. Next time we will come much earlier and appreciate more of your park.

The walk to beach looked like you were going for a walk to the ocean! The beach itself was a pretty beach, the water was a glistening blue. We also took a ranger led hike at Pinhook bog located in the park. The only way to hike in the bog area itself, is through a ranger led hike. This was definitely a very fun and very educational hike! We learned the history (and folklore) of the bog. There were carnivorous plants there- like the pitcher plant!! This hike is definitely worth taking. Another interesting side trip, when in the area, is the 1933 Chicago Word's Fair - Century of Progress homes. They are along the lake. Just a short trip from the park proved definitely worth a visit. There are some very interesting architecture in those homes.

What makes this park different compared to the others in the East Coast is the fact it's mainly sand dunes. Some of the hiking trails were the sand dunes themselves which made for a good work out. There is also one of the lakes so it felt like I was at the beach. The only downside was it was too cold at the time to get in the water. If you visit any national parks in the east coast, make Indiana Dunes a priority.

South of the park on SR-49, you'll see a Visitors Center, and if we were staying longer, it's a nice stop for local park info, campground reservations, souvenirs, and refreshments. The drive into the state park to Porter Beach takes you through thick woods, and we saw a buck crossing the road, which was a real treat and a reminder that these parks are wild enough. At the end of SR-49, there's an ornate pavilion, and it was closed due to the upcoming holiday, even the cafe and store were closed. The restrooms outside on the boardwalk were open. And we brought our lunch in from Culver's down by I-80. There were only a couple other cars during the time we were there. We pulled up and braved the blowing sand to get a look at the thrashing waters of Lake Michigan. With gusts up to 40mph from an approaching storm, the eaves were spectacular! But it was difficult to stay upright in that wind, not to mention the light sand-blasting we were getting. And we were on the road heading for a holiday visit, so we didnt stay long, only an hour or so. It's a beautiful park, even in the winter.
