I had been on a long two year road of several needed surgeries that had caused nerve damage to my pelvic area. I had a hypertonic pelvis due to the stress and all my pain. I ended up seeing a doctor in Chicago that recommended Terri who she felt was the best therapist in Fort Wayne. I had been to Steppin up for a few weeks when I was referred by my Dr here in town but they really didn't do much for me. The knowledge at Steppin Up just wasn't there. Steppin Up versus Healthy Expectations was night and day! On the first day I met Terri, I really couldn't do much of anything . Sitting and walking was hard to do. I just felt terrible and very depressed. Over time she taught me skills on how to release and stretch my hips and pelvic area. Calm my flared nerves that caused me so much pain. Terri taught me ways to breath to relax my tense muscles. I stayed dedicated to seeing Terri twice a week along with my Dr in Chicago. I did all the homework Terri gave me to do and listened to her calm words of advice. After seeing Terri for almost a year, I am almost pain free. I have started doing things I used to enjoy and slowly feel my life is returning back to normal. It's so important to have a good physical therapist that understands the process of healing, patience that is needed to fully heal and pushes you. Dealing with pelvic issues and nerve damage isn't fun or a topic you want to share with the world. I want to share how important it is to take action if you feel something is wrong. Each issue is being treated appropriately and I'm finally walking tall and straight with much less pain. Until I started therapy, I would never forget to take my pain medication, but, I do now! My therapist doesn't baby me, but rather motivates and pushes me which is why I'm there. Yes, I'm sore after a session, and that's a good thing. They are very professional, and just good people who care about their patients. I've learned that as we get older, that we must continue to use our muscles, do stretches, and take care of our body's, it's that simple.

I came in to do an evaluation. The therapist I had was Andres. He was very rude from the minute I…read moregot there. He questioned everything I did. Why wasn't I putting effort in? I explained why, he just rolled his eyes. I asked how much weight was the box that I was lifting before weights. He said "Don't worry about it". During my evaluation, clients were coming in (all white), He spoke to all of them said goodbye to all of them very nicely, then continue to still be rude to me. The evaluation was supposed to take 4 hours. He did my evaluation in 2 hours. At the end of my evaluation he told me when I get home ( I'm thinking he's going to tell me to ice or put heat on whatever that is hurting me) that I should really think if I put in my full effort into my evaluation. Tell me he's been doing this for over forty years, so he knows what he's talking about. I couldn't believe how rude he was to me. Then it was the coldest day we had, below 0 outside. So after I was done, I started my car from my remote starter and sat in the lobby. He comes out to the lobby and says to me "Are you waiting for a ride or something?" VERY RUDELY! I said no, "I'm warming up my car." He was like, "oh okay, I was wondering why you're still here." I feel that I was discriminated on so many levels, because one, of my race.
