Perfect size water park Our girls loved the 2 slides most
    Jennifer I.

The service is so far above the rest. Were there things I didn't love and will mention below to help you prepare if you are in a tent or cabin/no bath? Yes, but will we be back? Absolutely!!! We are two moms whose kiddos are best friends and we wanted to give them some real time to have together and wow did we pick the place!! Most importantly, we felt safe because every single employee is friendly, professional, quick to respond and honestly, several went above and beyond (looking at you Glory and Stenton and a handful of names I forget- sorry!) This safe feeling allowed this over protective mom to give the kids freedom and we were certainly in the right cabin (21) as we could see them if they wanted to go to the store (we could see the entry area from cabin) or the horses and goats.. they were also able to scooter with a lot of freedom. The campground had so many organized activities and sadly, I was the only one excited about it so we didn't do them but I observed some and the kids were having a blast! I interacted with the store a lot and I was thrilled that they would allow our girls to go in and order an ice cream without parents.. these are important lessons for kiddos (shopping, using a cc and interacting with cashier) and it just enhanced our experience.. excellent customer service and our girls LOVED going in alone and interacting. The grounds are beautiful and when I book a cabin without a bathroom and it has the bare minimum I don't expect much (think tent with amenities). There was a bigger then dorm size fridge in the room which was a happy surprise. I hate bringing up any negative but be prepared, these cabins aren't new and we heard termites munching on the wood and it was pleasant as it sounds like rain but bugs (Blech) :/. And not much cleaning goes on as in a tent-- cobwebs line the corners.. be prepared. Lots of gaps in the logs of the cabin so visually watch bugs and ants in and out of the cabin... AIR CONDITioner that works very well makes up for most of that! And with the fridge! Awesome... this cabin doesn't have any surfaces for - well, anything. Most of these cabins I have been in has a small desk in both rooms attached to the wall or something similar... we made it work by using the top of their fridge and the bench for surface but bring your camping table to save a lot of trouble. Bring a picnic table cover and chairs and this site will work perfectly!! Absolutely loved the location!! The girls spent their days sleeping in, swimming, meeting new friends, scootering, s'mores, cooking over the fire, interacting with amazing employees!! Wonderful sunset over the office.. staying up way too late, giggling into the night... outstanding time!! Feeding goats our carrot and apple scraps m... absolutely wonderful stay.. Okay- so lastly, the bathroom is fine but bring shower shoes and really have some with more then a flip flop sole because there's some issue with the water going down. I was the only one in the morning and was the first (everything dry) and within less then 2 minutes the water was getting close to the top of my shoe sole and well.. it is like that all day and any camp showers are used by many so Blech.. there are improvements going on everywhere so maybe they will tackle this one The thing that bothered me the most was a lack of a cooking kitchen. I traveled to 22 national parks last summer and never encountered such an awful situation for campers in tents or cabins with no sink or water spicket. We cooked and did so for most meals. First we went to the bathroom to wash our dishes. Well that definitely wouldn't work for so many reasons... then I asked the office and they said to find a spicket from a site unused that was close to us and use it. For us- it wouldn't work well but we used it for a day. Then We went to the laundry room and that worked the best but I hate feeling like I am doing something wrong. Hope they put one in! Again, try and find any customer service as wonderfully friendly, and fun....as this campground... I don't think you could.

We love coming to Indianapolis KOA! This family friendly, family owned campground never disappoints! Large, beautiful spots, nice landscaping, lots of fun activities throughout the weekend, pizza and wings you can order direct to your campsite and more! Located just a few minutes outside of downtown Indianapolis, the location is perfect for a staycation close to home, but a feeling like you're someplace far away! And the staff is simply the most friendly you'll find anywhere!! Make sure to enjoy the large pool, friendly horses, easy pull-through sites, ice cream and a well-stocked camp store and mo!

The park has shelters and multiple walking trails, which gives you options depending on how far you want to go. I noticed people taking family pictures at this park. One of the highlights was the water along the trail which adds a really pretty, calming touch to the scenery. The weather was decent temperature but a bit gloomy the day we went, and there were a lot of leaves on the trail. We didn't check the map and just kind of winged it, so parts of the trail were hard to follow because the leaves covered the path, but it wasn't an issue. Overall, we enjoyed the walk, the quiet surroundings, and the chance to bond while taking in what nature has to offer.

The park maintains several natural habitats including a pond, wetland, prairie and Buck Creek. The setting is perfect for bird watching, hiking, running, walking the dog or enjoying a sunset. The six shelters can be reserved (rented) for parties, meetings, picnics for $135 for residents of Marion County or $160 for non-residents. The naturalist center/classroom can also be reserved during certain months. There are lots of picnic tables available on first come basis. There is a bathroom facility available in the warmer months. The naturalists run special educational programs throughout the year including summer day camps for the kids, a bug festival, maple syrup tapping in late winter and hayrides in the fall. The Park will be hosting eclipse viewing on April 8. I was visiting the Master Naturalist Class, a but also took my dog on a nice walk. The park is open dawn til dusk and worth a visit. Plan on spending a couple hours. Be sure to bring your bug repellent.

This is not to say we don't have some amazing parks, however, we continue to often struggle to maintain them. Acton Park is an example. This 23-acre park is on the southeast side of Indy in the area known as Acton. The park, essentially more a simple natural setting, offers a few gentle rolling hills and a small creek. There is greenery, though it's not particularly well maintained and yet it's also fairly easy to see how this setting served from 1859-1905 as Acton Campground, a mission of the Methodist Episcopal Church. It at one point had a hotel, campground, pavilion, cottages, and man-made lake. It was part of the Chautauqua circuit and would host weekend long meetings with speakers, including William Jennings Bryan, would come. On Nov 12, 1905 a fire swept over the grounds believed to have been sparked by sparks from a passing locomotive. It destroyed the pavilion, 110 cottages and many fine trees. In 2004, Indy Parks acquired 23 acres of the camp to develop into a public park. As a relatively new park area, it's particularly dismaying to see the fairly poor condition of the park even with pretty decent signage. There are parks in Indy that are basically an afterthought (I live near one myself). Acton Park is one of them. While I do think there's been a little recent improvement here in terms of safety, this continues to be one of those parks that is poorly marked, poorly lit, and offers parking. That's never a good combination.

There are no defined trails through the wooded area which sprawls 22 acres. Part of the park is raised, but be aware that if you hike through the wooded areas, there is a small creek running through it that has no reliable means of crossing without getting your shoes muddy. The raised part is from a dam that was part of the now defunct Acton Camp Ground. The dam was used to make a lake on the property filled by the small creek. The history of the camp ground is filled with good intent and lots of misfortune, including several fires that burned all the campground buildings. The dam was mostly removed, so the lake has disappeared, but the ground can still be quite damp. Review #673

We visited Morgan's yesterday for the second time this summer. It's a great meeting spot for friends that live in Cincinnati and Indianapolis. Our first visit was on a Thursday and the second was on a Sunday. There was a big difference in the amount of people when going during the week versus the weekend. I would highly suggest a weekday visit if you would prefer less people. After a brief safety talk, you grab a life vest, paddle, and boat and you are off! We did kayaking on both of our visits, but saw a lot of people out on canoes and rafts. It is about a 7 mile trip and both times it took us about 3 hours doing a relaxing trip down the river with minimal paddling and a lot of floating. We packed a picnic lunch and pulled our kayaks out on a shady spot and ate lunch. This is not a technically different kayaking route. There are a few sections that are rocky, have some tiny rapids, or tree roots that you need to navigate, but all in all, it is a beginner level trip perfect for the novice and fun for all. The equipment is good, staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The price is also good for a budget activity ~$30 per person! Let's talk about COVID-19 precautions: Morgan's takes this seriously! They are by reservation only and have designated checkin times. For our weekend checkin when it was busy, a man greeted us when walked up and directed us to an empty table to fill out our group's waiver. Once done, we took to a table with one staff member to checkin. All of this was outside. During the week, this was done in the building, but we were the only group. There are social distance markers on the ground, limit to 3 people per the changing room/restroom, social distance on the bus to bring you back, and all staff wore masks. Thank you for keeping us safe!
