The food is okay but the service is terrible. The co owner tonight could barely manage a smile let alone a welcome. Utensils and plates were dumped onto the table for myself and guests to arrange ourselves. Don't order the biryanis... they have no concept of this dish. Perhaps their tandoori is fine given their Punjabi heritage. I would avoid a Saturday evening meal as the staff are easily flustered and confused by a restaurant over half full. I don't think my review will change anything here because when i complained that i had to source my own plates for my table of 5 to eat the appetizers on my waiter actually argued with me. Between the two Indian places in town, I recommend this one for their lunch buffet, the other for dinner/entrees. The gulab jamun, saag, and tikka masala here are far superior to Taj Majal's lunch buffet equivalents. I absolutely loved the mint and tamarind chutney. BUT, I am used to dishes that are less cream-based. I got the vegetarian special, which came with chickpeas, spinach with paneer (cheese), vegetable korma, naan, rice pudding, and tea. Both the paneer and vegetable korma felt very heavy. The food here is great, very good menu of options, cooked specifically to your taste, hotter if wanted, milder if not. Loved the complimentary popoadums served as an appetizer while they prepare your entree. Garlic naan had just the right amount of crushed garlic and cooked to perfection with just a hint of charred. My first visit to India's Kitchen in about five years. I lived in Columbia for twelve years and I used to eat at this place almost every Saturday for lunch and it was the balls! I went here with my daughter and we both had the lunch buffet. The selections were not as numerous as they were when I frequented the place and most of them contained meat. I had the navraton korma, the chicken curry, and chicken biryani. There was no aloo gobi or palaak paneer or malai kofta. The food was okay, but it was pretty mild. Executive Summary: Overall a rather average Indian place, but earns and extra star due to consistency. Over the past decade I have eaten there probably at least 40 times, and I have never had a bad experience. That has to be beating the odds for a restaurant. Service: The service in my experience has always been fairly good. They can be a bit understated at times, and a bit slow when the place is busy (it is a small business with a limited staff, what can we expect), but I have never felt neglected or ignored when dining here. Atmosphere: The restaurant could use some major updating. Overall, I don't think much has changed since this location was Rome's. It does not seem much was changed when it became India's House/Rasoi. A small investment in renovating the interior could go a long way in improving the customer experience. Food: There have been a few Indian places that I have been where the food clearly seemed better than here, but India's House seems to be on par with the typical Indian place I have been. By default they do make stuff pretty mild, but they will spice it up if you ask them. (Out of luck if eating the buffet, of course...not that anyone should expect buffet food of any sort to be spicy in Mid-Missouri.) This is the only Indian restaurant where I have seen cheese naan. I have no clue if this is the least bit authentic, but it is pretty tasty (however, a tad greasy). read more

I wasn't expecting much from Columbia's indian restaurants, but India's House was a pleasant surprise. Lamb Korma is creamy with tender chunks of lamb. My Wife's Chicken Tikka Masala was excellent, and our Naan was superb. Veggi samosas left something to be desired, but I wouldn't kick them out of bed in the morning. Wait staff was friendly and prompt, did a great job even on a busy night. The staff is very attentive and personable (especially the ubiquitous waiter, Sonny) and you really can't go wrong with anything you order. I personally recommend the vegetarian dinner, which is a sampler of various vegetarian dishes of their choosing. I also highly recommend a Mango Lassi with your meal--it's delicious and cools the palate if you choose a higher spice level. The food quality really does depend on what you order and what time of the day. I've been her a couple of times and usually the lunch buffet is a good deal. However, the food is usually a lot more watered down anx has less flavor than if you were to order take out with individual portions. I always love saab and tikki masala and I prefer to order it take out from here rather than in the buffet because it tastes 10x better. Take out and dinner is usually a bit too pricey for me but I have liked everything I've ordered from here so far. If only the buffet was a bit better tasting I would be here all the time for lunch. read more
