I have developed a couple rolls with Indie Photo at this rate and I am always impressed by the speed at which my photos are returned. My latest roll was dropped off on a Saturday morning and the photos were sent to me by that evening. Service is always friendly and kind. They sell basic film and all their prices are on their website. (Usually $18/roll developed). I will continue to use them as long as they are open. Having recently moved to Philly from LA and wanting to continue my film shooting, I looked for any brick and mortar business that I could actually walk into to develop my film. I had done the mail-in orders but was not a fan of the wait (1-2 weeks). So finding Indie Photo Lab was a godsend. My one and only gripe I have with Indie Photo Lab is the owner's general attitude/disposition which, I admit, seems unreasonable simply because of my own assumptions and expectations about what customer service is and what, at the most basic level, it entails. Some of my basic expectations include: a greeting, inquiry of need(s), provision of options and a farewell. Having worked retail for years, these are just the bare-bone basics I expect from a business. Now, Jackson is not the bubbliest of people but that's not a requirement to give good customer service (though som might prefer it). So as I read some of the comments about feeling that Jackson was condescending or that customer service was "trash", I know what they're referring to. The other gentleman with the stash and impressive fro is quIte pleasant and genuinely helpful when it comes to camera/film talk. Let's face it, we all juSt like to talk shop and when you're met with curt responses and a blank stare, it can definitely feel off putting. Overall, I LOVE the work being done here. I usually just get my film developed and scanned then dropboxed. It extremely convenient! I've had my film uploaded in under a couple of hours to the next day shortly after opening. It feels like Christmas when I get the Dropbox notification! I haven't ordered prints or any other services from them but I have to assume it's as good as their film processing. I attached photos that they developed as a reference. I've never received any of my shots with scratch or debris marks (which I would almost always get when I would scan them myself. All in all, Indie Photo delivers. Maybe Jackson isnt the most radiant of people but the work done there is impeccable! I highly recommend. Not sure why so many reviews have a gripe on the customer service because that's what's keeping me coming back for years. The best film development company of all time! I lived in Philly awhile ago and used them, and continue to use them now that I've moved to Maryland. They are always speedy and the scans always turn out fantastic. I recently had an issue with my package getting to them, and they went to the post office to pick up the package themselves. I bet if I had sent the film in to a huge conglomerate and there was an issue with shipping, they would tell me I'm SOL. Their customer service has gone above and beyond to help. Can't recommend them enough, I tell all of my MD friends to mail in to them because it's guaranteed to be handled in the best way. read more

I have found my go to photo shop in Philly. Indie Photo is a great place to print film and digital photos and they carry FujiFilm that at a cheaper price than the going rate at the drugstore or on Amazon. I recently dusted off an old Nikon FE and took my film in to get it printed at Indie Photo. Jackson was great and even gave me some pointers to optimize my shots. I also printed some digitals that came out wonderfully. Service was friendly and prompt. Looking forward to taking in my next set of prints! read more

Indie Photo I cannot thank enough. After my Grandmother passed I found 27 rolls of film/and or cameras that had not been developed in 15-20 years ago when the photos were taken. Not even 10 months later, my Grandfather suddenly passed away on Saturday. Wanting the photos before his viewing, I dropped all of the rolls/cameras off on a Monday and requested them to be scanned instead of printing for my convenience with all of the craziness going on. They sent them to be WITHIN 48 HOURS! The photos, all 524 of them, they were able to develop for me and scan and put on dropbox by Wednesday morning. I cannot thank them enough for all of the hard work they put in for me for these to be done. Since I had so many things to develop they discounted my transaction for me and I saved a lot of money compared to any other film development studio in Philadelphia. The staff was friendly and helpful with all of the questions I had and are even saving the negatives for me that I am allowed to pick up at my convenience. I've known Jackson for many years now in the various shops he's worked at and now owns. He's always been courteous and prompt with his service and now he gets to craft the entire experience to exactly what he wants with his own shop. Indie Photo gets C41 processed, scanned and printed very quickly and currently does BW once a week. No E6 processing (other than XPro), but if you want it to be done in house, shoot lots of it, get your friends to shoot it and tell Jackson to get on it! Indie Photo is an awesome community asset and a very friendly place to be in general--I'm rarely in there for less than 30 minutes each time I drop by as I get caught up in conversation about one thing or another. They have a decent amount of film stock on hand as well as used cameras and some new Instax cameras. There's a computer station if you need a place to edit on-site. Can't say enough about the Indie Photo crew. GO SHOOT SOME FILM!!!! read more

I go to this place and I give them my film and my money, and in turn they promptly send me an email with my scans. The quality of the work and the quick turn around speaks for itself. Last time I was in the shop they asked me if they had any negatives I hadn't picked up yet. I replied,"YEAH A BUNCH, BUT YOU GUYS CAN HOLD ONTO THEM FOR A BIT LONGER." And before I knew it I was getting choke slammed through a coffee table. The reverberations of which undoubtedly broke every camera in the store, so yeah I guess that's why they're not for sale. All I remember after that is waking up on my couch drenched in sweat surrounded by all my negatives neatly packed in those little boxes. So I can't say for certain whether this was a dream or I'm severely concussed. Either way: love the shop love the work they do. read more

As everyone else has stated, this place is on point. Jackson is a master of his craft and has made it an easy decision to bring all of my work (which is a very large amount of film, frequently) to him, time after time. Decent prices, even better turnaround time, and somehow even better expertise with product knowledge, and customer care. Scratch that, because if you walk in the door more than once, he probably remembers your name already and that is beyond your modern customer service skills alone. Tons of film and cameras on hand, great hours, and an excellent location that is just as easy for people from outside the city, as those that live within the city. Hell, even if I move back west, I'd still send my stuff over to the guys at Indie. read more

I took a class at Indie Photo and it was excellent! Jackson was very friendly and knowledgeable and structured the class specifically to meet my needs. Great photo work and supply availability however your customer service is trash. Never in my life have I felt so out of place in a place where artists should be welcome. Every time I go in they have an attitude with me because something that I have forgotten to pick up yet they will not tell me if I did forget it or if it's there. Indie is the best place to get your film processed in the city. Jackson is very knowledgeable and helpful, and they always do an amazing job with my film. They have good enough prices on film that I'm going to start buying from them instead of super chains that have questionable employment practices. I'd rather keep my money local. Dropped off three rolls of film at Indie Photo in Philadelphia, two of 120 film and one 35mm film. The clerk (who I believe is the owner) actually stated that it would take extra time (by a few days) to process the 35mm. He told me when it would be available, and everything seemed fine. I ended up not being able to come back due to a sudden move outside of the city, and I had requested the prints be sent to me. Even though that's not normal procedure, they agreed and sent it. While I appreciated that, I noticed that the 35mm film was missing. So, I called back and asked about it (thinking perhaps the film didn't come out or something), and the owner stated that he only has record of those two rolls, and that he has never, ever lost a roll of film in his life. He kept repeating this, to the point where he was getting rude and belligerent when all I asked was for him to check around and then get back to me. He stubbornly and arrogantly refused to do this. I even repeated the conversation I had had with him when I originally dropped it off, along with the fact I had shown him the 35mm camera and had stated that I wasn't sure if it was working, but that I'd give it a shot. He claims I decided not to drop off the film when I distinctly remember doing so, because I was really excited to see if it worked and how it would look. And then, like I said, he told me it would take an extra few days. Anyway, he ends up calling back, informing me that he had found the roll after all. But because it was all black (due to the camera not working, which is what I was prepared for), he had thrown it in a bin and forgot to log it. He said he "didn't actually lose it then, just forgot to log it." He was so hung up on this technicality so that he doesn't appear wrong, when he actually stated repeatedly that I NEVER DROPPED OFF THE FILM IN THE FIRST PLACE. He didn't even apologize until I actually stated that I believe he owed me an apology. Advice to the owner: Next time this happens (and there will be a next time, as you and your system are not perfect), tell the customer that you will check and get back to them. It's not that difficult. If you're wrong, apologize. And lose the attitude. read more
