The woman pouring was really nice and knowledgeable. I don't know much about wine, so this is more about the experience, but my friend loves The Philanthropist so we stuck with that. Someone at the bar told us to try the 2023 Pinot and I'm so glad they did -- smooth, no weird aftertaste. I ended up buying a bottle. Super excited to visit Paso and support this Black owned winery. We were a group of 6 Blk women and men and our welcome was lukewarm by the person pouring (Bobbi). But my friends were intent on having a good time so we pressed on with conversation and laughter and eventually Bobbi warmed up to us. (Perhaps she was just tired). The wine was amazing. We had good tastings and bought several bottles in the end. I do wish Ray was around but we hope to catch him next time. I think it's important that staff remember they are repping a brand and shitty attitude will cost your business money. In the end she was chill with us but it took a lot of effort on our part. While visiting downtown Paso Robles, we stumbled upon this hidden gem and had the absolute best time. We were lucky to visit when the owner Raymond was there because he made the experience exceptional. The Chardonnay was one of the best I've had and I also especially loved one of the Pinots. However, I honestly enjoyed all of the wines I tried! This tasting room is small but I think that's what makes it special because we ended up making friends with everyone there. Our dog Charlie (Big C) was welcomed and given an unlimited amount of treats. We were also able to order food from Jeffry's next door and they delivered it right to us. If I could give this wine bar 10 stars I would. My wife, dog and I were referred to this place from a girl who worked at a shoe store on the next street over and we are glad that we listened to her recommendation. First, all the wines we tried were fantastic and the atmosphere was super fun full of life and awesome people. Most wine bars I have been to have been cold and stiff, but not this one. Also, the owner Raymond was working and he was a cool human. He explained all his wines to us and was very welcoming. Also, he told us all the charitable events that he does with his wine to help out communities and this made this place extra special. I love the idea of wine with intention and purpose. Raymond is an über talented winemaker and blend master, who often is there to greet you and walk you through his many different wines. His reds are big, complex, and oh so delicious. My husband and I came to Indigene wine cellar from our time stay in Pismo beach. The hostess Bobby wasn't very welcoming and not a natural friendly hostess and not personable..sociable... walking away and coming back to fill our glasses with the next taste.. she topped mines at the end with the Syrah. In the beginning my husband wanted to leave, but I said let's just start and finish the tasting and we'll leave. Mind you, we are familiar with the process of wine tasting. We never have been downtown Paso Robles for wine tasting. We usually go onsite inland in Paso Robles where the vineyards are for wine tasting at the independent wineries. We've been to Napa.. we're from the southern part of California and we're also familiar with the Temecula wineries. Central coast wineries are the best in my opinion. The best part was meeting a lady walking by with her beautiful poodle Raven... we talked and had a wonderful conversation. The only best wine was the Syrah and that's about it. Before stopping at this location we stopped at my favorite winery and picked up 5 bottles of Zinfandel from Dover Canyon winery in Paso Robles. Indigene is a black owned business and as a woman of color I came to support. I like light hearted conversations when wine tasting and we like to feel welcomed. You have to feel comfortable with yourself and towards others. Down below the other reviews, there is a review about 4 years ago that was posted, the review said about the owner not being as friendly, so I guess me and my husband didn't miss meeting the owner. What a great experience at Indigené Cellars!!! My husband and I headed to Paso Robles for a getaway and attempted to reach out to schedule a tasting when they were closed. Raymond called back within minutes and offered to open on his day off!! Best experience! Tasting room is tucked away in a quiet alley that you'd never expect but this is the true definition of a "hidden gem"! From the ambience, to the beautiful wine glasses, the personal experience from the wine maker himself and of course some of the best wine in town! We left with several bottles but went back for more the following day! I was beyond excited to find out there is a Black owned winery in Paso Robles and this place didn't disappointment me. Indigene is located in an alley by the shops in downtown, if you get lost please call. We spoke to Ray and he helped us find the location. Once we arrived we were greeted by Avery, she truly was a gem. I have nothing but good things to say about her: friendly, great personality, and enthusiastic. I ended up leaving with two bottles of the Rose, very light and tasty. As our tasting continued a large crowd of people came in and the place really got busy. What a gem of a find. My friend served this wine at her wedding and we were wowed by the first sip. She selected this wine not only because it was delicious but also because of its ties to philanthropic efforts in the Bay Area. We made a promise that we would visit the winery as soon the pandemic would allow. Fast forward to today, we were finally able to visit the tasting room. I was relieved that there was an outdoor seating area for the tasting. Every single wine was delicious and poured nicely into a beautiful glass. Our faves: Ambiente: the amazing wine that drew us to the winery in the dirt place. Light, smells great, delicious. Pinot: smells great, has a unique palate / finish Chardonnay: I don't like the buttery-ness of Chardonnays but this one was super clean tasting. Also very fragrant and crisp. I had to do a double take to see if I was drinking a chardonnay. Super laid back, friendly and unpretentious. How a wine tasting should be! We left with 6 bottles (to share with friends as gifts) and joined the wine club. read more

Located next to Jeffry's, Indigene Cellars is one of those stumble upon places that makes you appreciate Paso Robles downtown. I loved this little place and enjoyed many of their wines. We left with two bottles of Pinot Noir. Our host, Stevie was lovely and inviting. We definitely enjoyed our spur-of-the-moment stop. There is definitely areas for improvement (mostly that it's semi-outdoors and some of the wines were a tad bit warm for my palate) but it didn't deter from my experience. The tasting fee was also waived with a bottle purchase - so you can't go wrong with that! read more

I am no wine expert but I know when I've been spoiled, and I really felt spoiled by the Indigené staff here. They are kind, won't push you to drink faster, and (most importantly!) offer a delicious selection of drinks. The moscato and syrah were especially yummy and so easy to drink. This is a small tasting room, but with so much personality. The artwork is lovely and I felt right at home. It is hard to believe that the storefront is so hidden but I understand, because the more people that know about this place, the busier it'll get! Can't wait until next summer to visit this place. The only reason this isn't a 5-star review is that the reservation process was so frustrating that we almost decided not to visit. I think they are maybe changing over to a third party reservation system on their website, so scheduling was confusing, and it took a couple weeks of emailing back and forth with the owner before we were actually confirmed. Glad we stuck with it. We only met Raymond briefly upon our arrival when he brought over a treat for our dog, but he came across as laid back, like someone who loves what they do. We were well taken care of by his new employee, a young man who's obviously a fast learner. He was personable, knowledgeable, and gave us some good recommendations of places to check out in town. I love that the tasting room is intimate and open air. And I love that Indigene gives back to the community, donating a portion of sales of their Philanthropist wine. Ray's love of wine truly shows through in his commitment to delivering an excellent experience all around. So glad we found this place as we wanted to pick up some local wines from our trip to Paso Robles but hadn't planned well enough to make reservations at any of the wineries. I saw from the reviews on yelp that the owner is from Oakland so had to check it out. Raymond was very welcoming and easy to talk to which made the wine tasting fun. His was one of the few tasting rooms downtown that we walked by that didn't close at 5pm AND perfect during the pandemic because the room is very open and there are seats semi-outside. The wines were very good, especially the reds, and I loved that the owner is also a philanthropist donating to some organizations making positive change in the Bay Area.
