Great food. Some of the best chili chicken in the area, heavy on the chili, which we love. Will order again.

I've been eating here since Royal Nepal opened and was under different management. I've even dined at both the original (Brambleton, VA) and Arlington locations of Himalayan Wild Yak, a spin-off of sorts by two of the original owners. Both of these restaurants deserve your patronage as well when you're in either Arlington or out by Dulles. They are all great. The difference that Royal Nepal brings to the "table" is simple. They never lost that neighborhood feel and they don't take their patrons for granted. With a location down the block from the Birchmere and nestled in the up and coming Arlandria neighborhood of Alexandria, they project both a hometown restaurant feel as well as an adventurous vibe - have you ever eaten yak? The staff are real gems and the ambiance is a real treat from the "pickled veggies" on the window shelves down to the handmade Nepali napkins, this place is a virtual travelog. I can only say explore their menu and you're sure to find a treasure right here in the neighborhood.

I liked how the pricing was reasonable even for dishes with lamb (the exact price of the dish is shown instead of charging extra for a better protein option). We also had momos as an appetizer.

This is the BEST Indian place in Old Town! We've lived here about 3 years and we just wish we'd…read moretried it sooner. The food and service were amazing! It also has a really cool vibe on the inside. It's situated at the bottom of the Hyatt on King/Harvard. We ordered the samosa chat, pav bhaji, butter chicken, and CTM. Everything was so delicious. The samosa chaat comes with the tamarind and mint dressings already mixed in. Our server, Sam, was attentive and super kind! He offered us extra rice when we were a bit too enthusiastic with our curry portions. I cannot recommend this place enough!

STEAMED CHICKEN MOMO (6) - 13 The chicken momos sat on top of a creamy chili garlic sauce that was a bit spicy. The momos were juicy and the filling was soft and flavorful. Good appetizer to share between the three of us. BUTTER CHICKEN - 19 Creamy and rich, tasted a bit sweeter than I was used to, almost like a chicken tikka masala. Pretty standard, but got the job done. Plenty of chicken in our curry. SAAG PANEER - 19 Vibrant green with the perfect loose, creamy texture that wasn't too chunky. Good amount of paneer in our portion. The spinach actually tasted like spinach, which I find rare at other restaurants that also serve saag/palak paneer. Definitely one of the better ones I've had! GARLIC NAAN - 4 Pretty typical, but good nonetheless. It was a bit greasy than I would have liked, but went well with the curries when we wanted to switch between bites of the basmati rice. Portions were pretty big and generous. Everything we ordered hit and all above average. The three of us were quite full after sharing an app + naan + two entrees. Stop by if you're in the area!

Seating outside, downstairs if you want quiet and upstairs with a more Indian musical background which includes their bar area. Service was awesome both times. Had the starter of famous the Chicken 65 which I've heard a lot about but never had before. I had it at the regular heat/spice level. My impression was Indian chicken wings/nuggets with a big kick. Super delicious. Will search for this dish again on Indian menus. The portion could be easily shared between two people. And since I came here twice guess what, had it again at the 5/10 level for heat. Garlic naan and Lamb Rogan Josh as a main course which were excellent. I was starved so I woofed it down before taking pictures. On the second time I went garlic naan and chicken tiki masala at 5/10 level.

The dining area was pleasant and clean, which I always appreciate. I ended up ordering one of my usual dishes I get whenever I dine at an Indian restaurant: Lamb Biryani. I wish I would have remembered to take a picture of my meal. This was hands down the most flavorful biryani that I've ever had and I've had a lot of biryanis in my lifetime. The lamb could have been just little bit more tender but that's the only thing that brang down the score from a 10 out of 10 to a 9.5 out of 10. I definitely will be back to try their other menu item and I suggest you do the same if you're ever in Old Town Alexandria.

Nice layout! I…read moredidn't dine in on this visit but looking forward to in coming visits. There is a flight of steps to climb before entering the to-go area so persons need ADA accommodations may find it difficult to access. The parking was also not ideal for customers in the tiny lot space allocated in front of the restaurant. The bar area was very clean and felt modern offering a decent street view down Eads. I did not view the downstairs main dining area unfortunately. The service was swift and efficient. The bartender/server was able to receive my order and deliver it to the chef for preparation. As suggested the food was ready in ten minutes. I ordered the butter chicken and lamb tikka marsala with a side of roti and a side of garlic naan. On the receipt the butter chicken was labeled as tikka but it was butter chicken. The roti was not bad though I preferred the naan more. The garlic naan lived up to its name and was packed with minced garlic mainly toward the center or the bread. It was quite tasty and paired really well with the lamb tikka marsala. The butter chicken was good offering tender marinated chicken breast covered in the smooth and creamy sauce. The lamb was similarly prepared offering a deeper robust flavor and higher spice level. Granted I wasn't asked spice level for either dish. Considering both dishes were ticketed as a tikka I inferred the difference between butter chicken and chicken tikka could be the added spice. Either way both dishes were very good and well portioned giving the clear advantage to the lamb. No photos of the food since it was packaged to-go and not highlighting their creativity with the plating. Overall 3.8 out of 5

I got the Naan and that was really good. Of the options we got I liked the chicken korma better than the chicken tikka masala.
