It was refreshing on a hot day, and the interior was super cute and cozy. It's a great spot to catchup with quick service ! We were in and out within less than an hour. I also love that Wet Paint is right next door, it's quite dangerous! They have a lot to try, so I will be back to try out more things from the menu! I can't believe that I haven't been to this restaurant before. It's very close to me, but I just don't remember it when I want to order takeout. That needs to change. I wasn't feeling great, a cold was knocking on my door wanting to get in an wreak havoc on my sunny disposition. It was time to call out for help and we called Indochin Vietnamese Restaurant for 2 bowls of Beef Pho. Nothing feels or tastes better when you are sick than a big bowl of hot soup. Pho has become my personal preference over chicken noodle. I think it is the combination of spices, noodles, meat and the customization that has secured Pho as my favorite. Indochin's Pho was excellent. Very fresh ingredients, high quality beef and most importantly - a delicious and soothing broth. We had takeout which is typically not on par with eat-in but my energy level said stay home. I was very pleased with my big bowl of Pho, customized to my liking, a bit of spice to help open up the sinuses and a comfy spot on the couch made for a perfect evening at home. Indochin is my favorite spot to get pho in the cities, I have been coming here for years. This is now unfortunately the third time I have come to eat and the restaurant has been unexpectedly closed on a random day, completely disregarding the posted business hours. I no longer live in St. Paul and commuted 30 minutes while sick to pick up some much needed pho just to find indochin closed with no warning whatsoever. Can the business explain this? I have a certain level of grace for emergency situations and needing to close things down unexpectedly, but am finding difficultly to excuse this happening consistently. I usually don't find it necessary to call a restaurant on a Saturday to make sure they're open but I suppose this is just what needs to happen here now. read more

Food is decent. Wish the broth had some more flavor, almost tastes watered down. And Portions could be bigger for the cost. This place is on the expensive side. Also to add, I order the beef pho and it came raw. I've experienced this times before at places and have been told that the "hot" broth cooks the meat while it's in the bowl, but it in fact it does not and is still raw. Outstanding service and soup!! Last minute decision to get some wonton soup 10 minutes before they closed for the night. My initial thought was that the staff would be upset with a walk in order, however, the customer service was kind and considerate! The wonton soup was made fresh and hot - not greasy at all. My sore throat was instantly soothed with the spices and pure perfection of taste. It was so yummy that I didn't even get a photo of it and managed to eat the entire large $11 bin solo. Woops! This is a cute little restaurant on the edge of Grand Ave. My mom & I were visiting a brownie shop nearby and stopped in here for dinner. Now, we are extremely Scandinavian. My mom barely seasons her food with salt, so it's always a little stressful for her at new Asian restaurants due to the spice level, but I digress. The menus here are quite extensive. Want pho? Sure. Stir fry or chow mein? Done. Thai food? Absolutely. You can have a bland food palette or yearn for something authentic and both can be satisfied here. My mom ordered a chicken stir fry which came with pea pods, broccoli, and bell peppers (and chicken of course) with rice on the side. I ordered shrimp pad Thai. They have all meat options available for every dish (mock duck, tofu, chicken, pork, steak, shrimp and a few others). Shrimp was always the most expensive, with mock duck and tofu being the cheapest. The food was amazing. The pad Thai was different from what I was used to- it was more saucey, which is fine by me, but didn't have the typical crunch of any added peanuts. This was fine, but just an observation. The pad Thai has mild spice but you can always add more. The food was great but I should also note the atmosphere. It's very dim lighting (we arrived around 6:15pm and because this is winter, it was already dark outside) but it was atmospheric, I liked it. I would definitely visit again. I was told their chicken lo mein is the best in the city, so give it a go if you're in the area. read more

Indochin did the job the other night when I was craving pho and my usual place was closed. I ordered tofu pho and fresh spring rolls. The pho was good, no complaints there. Pretty standard. The spring rolls were HUGE but only contained shredded lettuce, noodles, and shrimp (usually there is pork too but I opted out). No herbs or other vegetables. Some people might not like that but I actually did and it paired well with their homemade dipping sauce. I will probably order again! read more

I sometimes forget about this place because it's modestly tucked at the West end of a commercial corridor that has a lot of activity stealing the attention on the East end. Also, it's right across the street from my old Junior High School, which doesn't usually make me think of delicious food. We decided to go to Indochin on a Sunday because we wanted pho, but also to avoid the busy lunch rush on University Avenue (which isn't too far away, but is more convenient for us). I am SO HAPPY we made this decision. We started with veggie eggrolls - they came out hot, crispy and just the right level of flavor... as opposed to eggrolls that are luke warm, oily and bland. (you know what I'm talking about). My partner got the Seafood Pho, which had a perfect broth. It was complex with layers of flavor. You could taste the star anise and other notes of spice that some pho places miss. It also had a generous amount of green onions and cilantro floating on the top of the soup. I didn't love their fish balls, but with everything else being 5 star it was fine with me! I got the Steamed Rice in Earthen Pot with Chicken, Shrimp and Pork. O.M.GOODNESS! This is by far one of my favorite meals now. I'm going back today for it! It's so tasty, hearty and comforting. This is the kind of dish you just want to curl up with on the sofa. The mushrooms and bamboo shoots give it texture and flavors that just don't stop! My favorite part though is how the earthen pot crisps up the rice for an extra crunch (may not be the best for sensitive teeth), but if you're like me and love that crunch - this is it! My local go to place for now! The beef broth for their chicken pho is so delicious. I have brought my father here and he enjoyed it as well. Spring rolls, Singapore noodles, and Spicy Szechuan were all tasty but certainly not spicy. Even by "Minnesota spice" standards. Definitely appreciated all the fresh vegetables - good quality and quantity! Much better ratio of veggies to noodles/rice than most places, and everything tasted like it was just freshly made moments before picking up the order. My boyfriend thought the dipping sauce for the spring rolls was particularly yummy. Overall, however, didn't taste much of that spicy heat that we were hoping for. We specifically ordered these two dishes because they are described as spicy on the menu - the Singapore noodles described as "rice noodles sauteed with carrots, bean sprouts, broccoli, pea pods, eggs and onions in spicy curry seasoning" and the Spicy Szechuan as "carrots, onions, celery, water chestnut, bamboo shoots and bell pepper stir fried in spicy sauce, served with rice." I would still like to give this place another shot because everything tasted fresh and well made, but next time, will just make sure to specify the spice level when ordering and hopefully increase the stars with an updated review. read more

She even complimented on my voice and asked if I was a singer. Ha! My first impressions: - Decent selection of Vietnamese dishes (bonus - some new dishes like claypot rice bowls) -- a differentiator - Prices are ~10% higher for most dishes. A tactic that makes sense given the business model (small mom and pop shop, likely only Vietnamese restaurant on campus, etc.), but difficult to sustain due to the intense competition of Asian restaurants around the area - Expect the service to be the bottleneck during your dining experience due to the limited staff I ordered the shrimp claypot rice bowl and was super impressed! I haven't seen this dish offered at other restaurants, so I came in with little expectations. The dish was excellent! It reminded me of the bowls that I had when I was an exchange student in Hong Kong. The bottom of the rice was burnt and the slices of Chinese sausages provided that 'value add' to the dish. This place is amazing. The chicken was not rubbery it had a delicious crunch to it. The sauce is delicious too. This is the first time I've craved the food immediately after leaving a restaurant. Those with me also ordered the Mongolian beef and spicy cashew chicken. They loved that as well. It's going to be hard to not order the sesame chicken and instead try something else next time. The staff is very nice and attentive. We had a group of 6 and pushed two tables together. Was looking for some late-night pho and stumbled upon this place 9 o'clock is not really late but for most Asian restaurants in the cities it is,so I was happy to find it!
