this is my go to spot when I'm craving some pho! The service is pretty fast and I really appreciate how many different varieties of pho you can choose from. Whatever meat combination you like you can find here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a pretty casual establishment[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and they now accept all cards, but be aware that there is a surcharge for using a credit card. I do wish it brought a little bit more meat, but overall the flavors are fantastic and the prices are very reasonable.

Came here recently for a quick lunch and ordered their noodle vermicelli bowl and sesame chicken wings. The bowl had less noodles than I was expecting and the sauce was slightly too watery (aka bland) but the chicken wings were AMAZING -- definitely recommend! They were crispy and covered in an addictive sticky sweet and savory glaze. The restaurant has a small parking lot which is hard to come by in this area. Service was friendly and efficient.

A staple of the Minneapolis area. One of the go to spots for Vietnamese food! A small but mighty restaurant serving up some great classics. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a friendly atmosphere, great food, lots of options & fair pricing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a decent parking lot that is easy to access and plenty of seating for a smaller location.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Next time you hit up the como zoo make this your dinner spot!

Wonderful service, very friendly staff, free parking and authentic Vietnamese. Pho79 is not a pass but just a few things to consider. It's in uptown so traffic is a pain BUT they do have free parking for you! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Really friendly folks overall and a clean looking place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food itself was ok this time I am averaging my two visits and they come out to 3 stars. Rice was too wet, flavors on dishes were either too much (salty for squid) or not enough (hardly flavor for ginger fried veggies). I have eaten a lot of Vietnamese food so I feel I have a good handle on what it should taste like. Also the prices were quite aggressive. If you live in the area certainly worth a stop but Inwouldnt drive across town for this experience!

I came here the other night because I was craving some pho. This is my favorite pho place in the city. They have big, nice comfy booths and the waitress was very attentive. I have been coming here for many years and have tried others but this is my go to for sure it's right in Eat street and thy have a parking lot for easy parking. I really enjoy ordering the wonton wrapped jumbo shrimps as my appetizer before my pho. It comes with sweet-and-sour sauce on the side and I put chili oil in the sweet-and-sour sauce to spice it up a bit for dipping my shrimp.

literally the best pho i have ever had. they give so much meat and basil. i also get the blended thai tea and its delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]love the vibe of this place, it's super big and just feels homey.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] my girlfriend and i love to go here. the food comes so fast also!

    #21 w/ egg noodles

I've been frequenting this spot for close to 15 years. I originally went for the small lunch buffet. A handful of choices but all done excellently. However once I tried the Pho I had little reason to go for anything else. My go too is the #21 with egg noodles. Now I know you purists will say it's not Pho it's a Vietnamese soup. Whatever you call it it is heavenly! I love the complexity of flavors and the plate of aromatics you get to work into the soup. Hands down the best I have had anywhere in the twin cities. Crystal clear broth with a lovely oil slick that is bursting with flavor. As I said I always go for the soup but there entrees are also excellent too. Sesame chicken is a favorite of my kids. Ambience is severely lacking and it can feel a bit dingy inside but the food and service more than make up for that in my book.

I travel from Florida to this place in particular! I am treated with such kindness every single time. 10/10 every single visit. I've never had something I disliked. The best Vietnamese takeout in the cities. Food is super consistent and very fairly priced. Most portions will feed two people. They even have a decent parking lot on the side of the building for dining in or to stop for takeout. The ambiance inside matches the prices, which is to say it's an afterthought that hasn't been considered in probably a decade or two.

If I had to rate Pho 79 out of 100, I'd give it a 79. Price: great, affordable Ambience: quirky, casual Menu selection: so many options, somewhat overwhelming Wings: sticky, very sweet bit addicting Wontons: classic, delicious Spring rolls: lacking some kick of flavor Pho: hot and fresh, but broth flavor wasn't the best I've had in Mpls Overall, great food and options, just lots of tough competition on Eat Street!

    Kelly R.

I always love coming back to this place! It's delicious and always hits the spot. I got the vegetable tofu noodle soup and my friend got the sesame shrimp with a side of fried rice. We also shared cream cheese wontons. The service was very friendly and so kind. They were also very attentive and always made sure we had full glasses of water and that we were taken care of at all times. It was a wonderful experience all around. It is a cozy atmosphere and we both just enjoy having a meal here.

Hi, the menu from Minneapolis location is really different from St Paul location. Are the two Pho 79 restaurants owned by separate people? Also, this Minneapolis one has very similar description to Taste of Asia in EP, are the two related? Thanks!

I was told they are were previously owned by the same people but have not been in quite a few years. I thought they were the same..I enjoy the St. Paul one much more.

We used to go when they were across the street in the small space. To me this is the OG Vietnamese place to recommend when people ask where to get great Vietnamese food. Food is always good and service is great. It has been a long time since I've been here and I'm glad to see they still have a lot of options available, even weekend specials. I had to taste the banh cuon since that is a weekend specials and not easily found in restaurants. It did not disappoint. The nuoc mam was perfect. Filling was good but I wish there were more fresh herbs for garnish. Bun Bo hue was filled with meat and protein!! I can't believe how much was in there. I normally don't like a ton of meat but this was so tender I ate it all. Pho was good. Broth had a strong star anise flavor but I like that. The mi hoanh ton soup was good but not the best. The wontons were huge! I appreciate the amount of protein in it. Cream cheese wontons flavor was good, wish there was more than 4 pieces per order though. Nem nuong serving size was pretty small. Wish we would've ordered the nem nuong spring rolls instead. Bubble tea tasted like strawberry milk, very sweet. Not my favorite but my daughter gave it 10/10. Salmon rice was good, we were able to add eggs for $4. The chili oil is very hot so be careful how much you add. 4% discount if you pay in cash. Gratuity added for parties of 5 or more. Easy to grab to go at the front if you are in a rush. We grabbed more to go after we ate too. The tri color dessert was ok, not my favorite but I liked the sweetness of the coconut milk in there. We grabbed a banh mi that was ready to go and that was good! Bread was crispy, but maybe too much bread ratio to filling. Banh bao was massive too, expensive for $8.

Then I saw signs on the Shuang Hur building for a (new to me) Vietnamese joint in the same building. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! My Huong is an 8-top hole in the wall across the parking lot from the rear of El Nuevo Mariachi Restaurant. The place is homely, small, but brightly lit and plenty of day light through the picture windows overlooking Eat Street. It's a big contrast to Pho 79 type places that are dim and short on ambience. The clientele shows. Instead of just a bunch of Asians throwing down Pho, it's a mix like you'd see at Quang or Eat Street Crossing. I was seated right away, was greeted by a cheery Vietnamese lady, and ordered Hu Tieu Bo Khu (Beef Stew Noodle Soup.) It was a dish I haven't seen before even though I have been to so many Vietnamese places (see my other reviews and lists.) The dish came very quickly, and I was shocked that they didn't bring it with a veggie plate. Oh well. Well the best way I could describe Hu Tieu Bo Khu, its basically a pot roast over noodles. So the beefy broth like a less spicey version of Bun Bo Hue, with flavors of lemongrass and star anise, nicely garnished already with what would have been on a veggie plate. The broth was delicious, slightly sweet with the carrots, and the beef was fall apart amazingly stewed with deep flavor. There were other menu items like Curry Chicken pho and a Stewed chicken rice dish I'd have to return and try!

The curry was flavorful but not too salty which I do feel like lots of Asian American/fusion dishes can become around here in Minnesota. The Hmong sausage was well seasoned and grilled and paired well with the sticky rice. The sausage reminds me of Taiwanese sausage but is heftier and more substantial. It was cool to be at the bar and see into the kitchen. Service was very quick overall and the bartenders gave some great suggestions for drinks. Tom kha lemonade - refreshing, somewhere between a tom kha soup and key lime pie almost. Was debating between this and the 3Leches botanical drinks (maybe one of these another time!) Overall would come back again but perhaps only on days when we are okay with splurging it a bit more. ;) The outside was nice but today was a bit too humid so it was nice we were able to get a seat inside. Definitely would be back when in the Cities for their cafe next door when they hopefully have more of their specialty pastries in stock (we eyed the coconut pandan croissant but they were out!
