Funny how things work out. I was in the area to go see a tattoo shop. I went into the shop I…read moreintended to go to. I was greeted by the cliche young, arrogant "tattoo shop girl", you know the one, usually they have all the piercings, the sleeve, usually have one side of their head shaved and act as if they are too important to deal w you. Yeah, that one, she basically told me come back later. Anyway, I leave. As I'm driving around the block, I stumble on Clockwork Tattoo shop and there was parking right in front. I go in, I'm greeted by a slightly tatted dude at the counter. I tell him what I need done. He says, "let me grab an artist from the back", so I sit. Two min later he comes back and says "I'm sorry, he's just finishing w a client". I sit and think to myself, "I've never been in such a professional tattoo shop". As I look around, this place is clean and decorated with art and no flash. A few framed articles and not much more, a bit odd. Not two min later a young guy comes from the back, introduces himself as Joe (turns out to be the owner), I show him some work I want to have fixed. He says "yeah, we can help you out, but I'm booked for about 2-3 months", what am I going to do at this point? I say ok and I turn back to the dude that initially greeted me and begin discussing appt dates in November. Just then the phone rings and its a cancellation for later in the week. BOOM, it's mine. I go home and begin my search online to check out their work, one piece better than the next b I go back later in the week for my appointment. Everyone at this place is amazingly down to earth and professional. I had my first session of a cover-up done and I can't wait to go back. I've been getting tattooed at least 20 years and have been to at least a dozen different shops, this place is clearly top of the charts.

As such, I am no stranger to getting tattooed and rate my experience at Clockwork as fantastic. Working with Joe was a real treat, as he is a really good person and dynamite tattoo artist. To begin with, the shop is super tidy and clean. The staff is pleasant, professional and engaging. I didn't feel rushed or pandered to but I also walked into the shop with ideas in hand and was receptive to Joe's suggestions. I gave him my rough idea and he ran with it. He was enthusiastic and the entire experience was laid back and chill, it was like collaborating with a good friend who happens to be awesome at tattooing. In chatting with Joe while he was tattoo me, it was clear that he takes great pride in his profession. He has a light touch and the process, though not painless, was tolerable. I have a high pain threshold but at one point after 3 hours, my inner arm was getting alittle "zippy" which is code word for hurts like Hell. I powered through but what really left a lasting impression was that Joe apologized for the tattoo hurting and he knew it was uncomfortable. Clearly an apology was not in order as I had voluntarily paid this man good money to repeatedly jab an inky needle into the tender flesh of my inner, upper arm but it was nice to know that Joe was not completely desensitized to the discomforts of his clients. As far as the price point, I feel Clockwork's prices are very fair as Joe's work is specialized, visually stunning and top notch. If his shop were in NYC, he could command even more for his work. With a tattoo, it would not behoove you to bargain hunt as you really do get what you pay for.

Unfortunately, the outcome of my final tattoo was extremely disappointing. During the session, my skin was overworked significantly, which resulted in multiple scars. I have never gotten scars from any other tattoo. During the healing process I had an open wound in the center from my skin being dug into. There are also major inconsistencies in the black ink saturation throughout the piece, so much so that parts are fading out. The tattoo itself ending up not following the reference, as a lot of the lines are shaky, the center of the flower lacks definition, and the petals are not cohesive. I understand that tattoo artists can become exhausted, especially during long sessions, which is why I wish I was firmly told to come back another day. If an artist is too tired to give a piece their full attention and care, it would be far better to firmly reschedule for another day rather than continue working while fatigued. This experience genuinely impacted my confidence and how I feel about my body, which is really upsetting because my goal with tattoos is to feel more in tune with myself and style. Unfortunately, the outcome has led me to begin the tattoo removal process, which is both emotionally and financially stressful for me and is about to cost me a lot more than this tattoo.

Can't say enough excellent things about this place! Owner,…read moreDom, and tat artist, Rebecca, vibed with me immediately. Destiny shall I say? Felt like I knew them forever. Dom is incredible. He's so passionate about what he does and IMO an expert with piercings and what he chooses for the best of all when it comes to quality and beauty. Uses 14k gold to titanium. Diamonds and natural gems offered as well! Not surgical SS which contains nickel. (Most hospitals use titanium to fuse bones or secure replacements in our bodies.) Incredibly knowledgeable and tells you everything from start to finish. I was hesitant because of my own memories of piercing gun I was used to 20yrs ago versus needles, but I swear he is so exceptional that I will never go to another. He explains everything, super knowledgeable, can answer every question you have and uses the best materials. He is super passionate and is simply himself. Place is beyond sterile and not one piercing I chose has hurt for days like your typical piercing gun at "Claire's". It's reverse piercing where flat bottomed backing doesn't poke your skin as you sleep or hand hold your phone. You basically buy the tops to replace once inserted as opposed to traditional you remove backing and change your earring with this long post stabbing you in your head. He will even offer to change tops for you! Exceptional taste in beauty trends and will order whatever you might want from his suppliers that he may not have on hand at the moment. Follow them on IG! I'll be here forever if I really lay into this awesome review! I've already been here two consecutive days as of writing and brought my hubby for 2nd trip to have his ear redone from prior. I requested third appt and am excited to see new products he has coming next week before I decide on fourth. Now working with Rebecca for my additional tats! My review will not do them Justice, just come here and see for yourself! 10 stars if it were possible!

The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and comfortable--you can feel the creative energy as soon as you walk in. Their dedication and artistry are on another level--the attention to detail, creativity, and care that goes into their work is unmatched. Each tattoo I've gotten here feels like a true piece of art that I'll be proud to wear for life. What I love most is how accommodating and kind everyone is. They make the process collaborative and personal, which really sets them apart from so many other shops. It's not just about getting a tattoo--it's about having an experience you'll remember. The shop itself is great. Bright and clean and everyone supports the running of the business and I thought I found a place to stay with for years to come. I did nine tattoos with her and along the way and I thought I had built up a nice level of trust and respect. I thought I was a better than average tipper and did my very best to follow her rules for communicating and discussing my designs. In March I was all set to do my tenth tattoo. It was going to be a surprise to show my niece and nephew at a mid-May party. I went in for a consult and reviewed my design and gave my deposit. She mentioned she had idea(s) for the stars in my design and that night I asked her to send me some to review. (This was about two months before my appointment.) I followed up a couple of weeks later and she tells me how busy she has gotten with new customers, how much pressure she is under, but she'll see about getting me something "in a few days." I told her no worries, take a month. I just need it a couple of weeks before my appt so I can review it. Unfortunately, I never received anything from her. Ultimately I had to contact her to cancel my appointment because I didn't have the designs she promised. There were a lot of excuses, but she didn't really try to make it right or find a mutually workable solution. I'm truly saddened because I think she's a fantastic artist ( I had her tattoo her logomark on me I liked her work so much), I thought we had a really good working relationship, and I hoped this would be a long partnership. I guess she had different ideas. I wish her luck.
