You know, it feels a little weird to write a review about a gas station. Yet, I feel compelled to…read morewrite about this one place. I don't live in Asheville, in fact I live very far away. I drive to Asheville a few times a year (anything to avoid flying with those stupid airlines), and since it's fairly close to where I stay, I will go there to gas up. Often when I've gone there, the attendant was outside cleaning the pumps or chatting up people. I don't know, it's just that there were some general good vibes. Is that weird? To me, it is a little bit weird in that almost all gas stations are places that skeeve me out. People watching is often entertaining and horrifying at the same time. Most attendants at these places obviously don't want to be there, and most of the time everything is dirty, even in the new places. So, yeah, it's a bit weird that I'm writing this. But, I wouldn't be writing it if it didn't affect me in someway shape or form. It has. It's not an earth shattering experience for most people, but it something I always notice when I'm there.

It's only about a mile from I-26 / US 74. If coming from the highway, take exit 33 for NC 191 / Blue Ridge Parkway. On a Sunday morning around 11am, this gas station and convenience store were busy with a variety of customers including families with children and out-of-towners like us. We even ran into our Airbnb hosts. I guess this place is befitting of its name. I'd never heard of the Hot Spot chain before this visit. At the time of writing this review, there are about 40 locations in the Carolinas. They're mostly in South Carolina, with multiple locations in the greater Greenville, Spartanburg, and Asheville areas. In North Carolina, I spend most of my time in the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) and Triad (Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point). There are no Hot Spots in those areas. I pass through Greenville and Spartanburg regularly on my trips to and from Georgia. However, I almost always fill up at a QuikTrip along I-85. It looks like there are only a couple Hot Spots along I-85 on that stretch. This Hot Spot has eight pumps. Apart from the branding, I can't say too much separates this place from other gas stations and convenience stores. It's run-of-the-mill, but also A-OK. I'd fill up here again. The price for premium fuel was in line with other more expensive gas stations like BP and Shell. The property felt clean and safe enough.

Definitely not a Jiffy Lube or Take 5 experience where they screw with your car oversell you randomness and make no effort in being personable. I hardly ever make reviews but this was well deserved. I was nervous to come here because some of the reviews I'd seen, I looked through and noticed a lot of them were just handing out bad reviews everywhere so I gave this place a shot.

My friend and I were broken down on the side of the road for hours waiting for a tow from USAA…read more After the third tow truck from USAA canceled on us we were a bit nervous about our next steps. We called Black Mountian Automotive and with out hesitation they had a tow truck on the road and got us with in 20 minutes of hanging up. They took us back to the store and repaired our car and sent us on our way. While we were in the store we had the chance to talk to the kind woman behind the counter and met her dog Winn-Dixie! They allowed us to bring our dog inside as well. They stayed open to finish our repair and make sure we were all okay. We also got to buy some earrings that the owners mother made! Everything about our experience with this shop was excellent and I highly recommend calling them if you are ever in a bind.
