For over 20 years brought my car to Jim for services. Was disappointed to learn that Jim has retired. Will miss his expertise and honesty.

BROKEN TRUST IS WORSE THAN BROKEN CAR Early August 2024, I had my car towed to Inglewood Auto for an overheating issue. When Jim called, he informed me that the head gasket had blown. I was in shock receiving this news because I'd pulled over as soon as my car started to overheat and had stopped driving it once I realized adding more coolant didn't solve the problem. Jim told me that the problem was the water pump, which then caused the head gasket to blow. To fix my car would have been between $8,000-$9,000, which was more than what my 1998 Camry LE is worth. His recommendation was to total my car. I tried to question Jim's diagnosis because there had been no white smoke, no milky oil, no rough idling, and no engine knocking or loss of power. There was only visible coolant loss with visible coolant sprays near the engine block, which was most likely from a broken hose or water pump. However, Jim told me that he had performed the chemical dye test, which confirmed presence of combustion gas in the coolant system, and this was the basis for his diagnosis of head gasket failure. Even if that were so, additional testing (compression test, leak-down test, etc.) should have been conducted, especially when there were no other issues pointing to head gasket failure. Because I didn't trust Jim's diagnosis, I had my car towed to a second shop, and Velocity Motorsports fixed my car for ~$900 with OME parts. I paid extra money to have additional diagnoses done to rule out a blown head gasket because it's like being told you have cancer, when all of you know you don't, but because someone said you have cancer, your mind is thrown into chaos and despair until you can see some definitive tests that say otherwise. Jim's misdiagnosis caused me extreme anxiety, and I missed some important events because I didn't have my car for another 3 weeks. I had to spend money for extra towing and additional testing. What makes me sad is not just the misdiagnosis, but everywhere I asked, a head gasket replacement, even with additional work for warped cylinders or engine overhaul, would not have been anywhere near the $8,000-$9,000 that he quoted me. He not only misdiagnosed the problem, but he gave an exorbitant estimate for the repairs! Jim's broken my trust, and I wonder if this was the first time or had he done similar things in the past (ie, Jim had fixed my water pump a few years ago, but was it really the water pump that failed a few years ago, only to fail again this time?). Trust is a fragile thing. Once broken, it's not easily fixed. I will never use this shop again, and I've been a loyal customer since 2011. read more

SHADY MECHANICAL WORK DO NOT TRUST ANYTHING BRET HAS TO SAY. I had been bringing in my 2005 Honda accord for the past year for routine oil changes (every 3k miles) Every service I had been asking about how the brakes were on my car, & every time I was told they were good. About a week ago I started hearing scraping sound coming from my front right side while braking. I called assuming my brakes were fully worn down, & damaging the rotors. I was immediately met with confrontation from Bret, I explained after my oil service I should be informed my brakes are getting low, & it's time to replace them, & you did not do that, & now my brakes, & rotors need to be replaced. Bret refused to cover the rotors while I'd replace the brakes, insisted on scheduling me for an appointment a whole week later. I then told him my brakes are a safety issue, & that wouldn't be feasible. He kept giving me a lame excuse, talking down to me like I'm an idiot. After a brief back, & forth on the phone it turned into a shouting match. Bret then hung up the phone on me. I called back asking for the owner, & he claimed to be the owner. He then said I don't want any confrontation, & he would look at the car the following day, I agreed & brought it in. The next day sure enough the right front brakes were gone & damaging the rotors. He did nothing but lie to me telling me Jim was retired even though I had seen his name on a recent work order, blamed my problem on a stuck caliper, & the runaround about "brakes just normally wear down over time." Bret refused to man up, do the right thing, & agree to replace the rotors while I'd pay for the brakes. That is absolutely no way to run a business, my trust has been completely lost. This establishment does not care for your well being, & safety of their customers on the road. Why would you trust them for anything else? I will be filing more complaints against this business. It should not be running based off the way they treat their customers. read more

Jim has been in business over 30 years and his integrity, honesty and quality work is the absolute reason why. He will tell you like it is and never upsell you on things you don't need. Any time someone on the local social media asks for a good honest mechanic, Jim at Inglewood is often mentioned numerous times with good results and satisfied customers. Word of mouth is always the best referral. I had a scheduled appointment to have my oil changed at another local shop I will not mention. They took over 90 minutes to change my oil (outrageous!) and when my SUV *almost* finished, proceeded to sell me new brakes! I told them to get my rig off the rack immediately and not insult my intelligence. My rig was only a few years old at the time with very low miles. Needless to say, I was outraged! I then proceeded to call Jim at Inglewood. Many of my friends had recommended his shop. Jim said "bring it in, we'll take a look." I brought my rig to Jim the next day and he lifted in on the rack. Did a full once over looking at the brakes, brake pads and such and said: "get out of here, you're fine". I was then convinced, I found my mechanic. Fast forward to my rig's first 60K service. I scheduled with Jim. Inglewood did a competent service at an extremely reasonable price. No upselling whatsoever, just honest recommendations to keep your car safe on the road. Some mechanics will sometimes take advantage of women. Not Jim. He told me bluntly: "I have a wife and daughter and want them to be treated fairly, too". Jim is a peach of a man with a heart of gold. Speaking of oil changes, right on their front window, Inglewood also features oil changes for $34.95! Thanks Jim, for being the voice of integrity in the auto repair world. Jim knows his craft. 2 other repair shops charged me hundreds and did not solve the cause of the problem. 1 shop even gave up and said i should get a second opinion because they were not sure what it was. I recommend this auto shop to all of my friends and family and it will be my single go to shop for anything I need auto-related for my current piece of crap car while I'm in college and all my future cars as long as he's in business. I moved all the way to Everett and I still drive down here for anything from oil to repairs, and if it ever breaks down I'll have it towed here. I've been two other well-known chain repair shops where they really try to rip me off and or hit on me as a young lady who obviously doesn't know what she's talking about with cars, but Jim and his staff gave me none of that. I don't even hold back my stupid questions anymore because I'm so confident he would never rip me off. He just smiles and answers my questions. Jim can find the root of the problem in an instant, is honest and he's got a good attitude too. I think I'm probably not the only one who panics over car repairs but he's always been super polite when I'm being a stressed-out customer. He will tell you honestly if it's nothing to worry about instead of most other repair shops who will try to sell you anything they can. The location is behind the Chinese restaurant but it's not too hard to find and once you've been there once you won't have any trouble finding it again. I've never not been able to get my car in the same week in the only time I've ever taken it anywhere else is today because my battery was so weak I wasn't sure it would make it to my appointment and I had to go get a battery. Keep up the great work Jim thanks so much for your honesty and integrity. Every time my car has been worked on here I drive away with confidence that the problem will not come back. He also was able to jimmy my stuck minivan seat for removal and did not charge and that was really nice. Thank you. These guys just give me a good feeling. I trust them 100% completely to work on my car, at a fair rate, and only fix what actually needs fixing. In fact, when having been told my other places (the dreaded dealership) about the million things wrong with my car, Jim has carefully checked each "problem" and given me his honest opinion, which usually amounts to not being much of a problem at all. Or one that isn't ready to be addressed yet (like brake pads that "yes, are worn down, but still have life left on them"). All the staff are pleasant, and all repairs are authorized by the owner before performed. I would love to give 5 stars, but for two reasons. Making an appointment here is sometimes weird. You call and say something like, "I'd like to bring my car in for an oil change." And you get an answer that is something like "Okay, go ahead." And then you randomly suggest days until you get a response that they do have time for you the day you suggest. ("How about Tuesday?" "We're pretty full that day." "How about Thursday morning." "Can you drop it off or do you need to wait for it?" etc.) Also, there are no electronic records. My car is getting pretty old and while I've been fairly good about keeping records of what services have been done and when, I'm not perfect. Especially when trying to remember those maintenance items you only do every 75,000 miles or so (like my timing belt). However, I will say that if you are having a car emergency, Jim is pretty good about fitting you in as soon as possible. read more

This was my first time bringing a car here for repairs, but it's close to where we live and all the previous reviews seemed very positive, so thought I'd give it a try. My Honda Civic kept dying out on me, and I was able to bring it in the second day after I called. Jim diagnosed it quickly as a burned out ignition switch. Two words- honesty and integrity. I found this place on Yelp. My 14 year old Explorer was making a noise that I thought might be a bad lower control arm bushing or ball joint. Jim spent an hour diagnosing the car and tightening bolts. He said he was not 100% sure what was causing the noise and refused to charge me. He said that if the noise gets worse to bring the car back in and that it was not a safety issue. That is some pretty refreshing honesty from a local business and I will be returning for all future automotive repairs. read more

My son was home for Thanksgiving, so there was a small window of time to have his heater looked at and an O2 sensor replaced. I was bracing myself for an expensive repair. I was able to get in and out the same day and the bill was $350 to replace a wire to the heater blower and replace the O2 sensor. Fast, courteous and solid! I just got a new radiator for my Camry from this place and Jim is really nice and made it simple. He seems honest, polite, and now I feel like if my car ever has issues or I just need brakes (soon, actually), I don't have to panic and wonder who to take it to.
