I took the women's basic handgun class with Sandy and it was GREAT! Informative and fun. If you are considering it, I would definitely recommend taking the class. I have always been nervous around guns and about handling guns, but Sandy made me feel safe. I came away from the class with a better knowledge of how guns work which has eased a lot of my anxiety about guns. Most of my anxiety was from not understanding how they function. We spent time in the classroom learning the safety rules, how guns work, form, etc. After the classroom portion we went to the range to try it out. Sandy keeps the class small so she is able to spend one on one time with each woman. Everyone gets their own target that you can take home after class. Sandy will help you with your form and work with any individual needs you may have. I really appreciate that this is a women only class. I think part of my nervousness of going to a shooting range was that I assumed it would be mostly men and as a woman it can be intimidating to go to a place that is male dominated. I also really appreciate having a teacher who is female and takes into consideration our "lady strength." :) I highly recommend this class and if you are on the fence, go for it! read more

I took the Basic Handgun Training class in January. As a total beginner to handguns, the instructot was informative and knowledgeable about everything and kept the class very engaging. He gave me all the information needed to pass and receive the Firearms Safety Certificate, which I immediately followed the class. The classroom experience was so enjoyable that I immediately went out and purchased my first firearm and signed up for the ladies' class at the range with Sandy. It was a small class that ensured that we all got the individualized attention we needed to practice with our own firearms. "Why choose Inland Training?" An important question to ask when it comes to this particular nature regarding to: self-defense, preservation of life through the use of a lethal weapon. Inland Training allure stems from their mission statement on their website pitching, "You want the best training you can get, aligned with your interests and goals", and to effect whatever level of shooter you are, and regardless of purpose (self-defense, sport, or competition). What captured me, was that in that affect, that Inland would be working with me to achieve my "interests and goals". My experience started out very positively attending the basic handgun course at Bass Pro Shops. Very professional instruction from both Scott Evers and Jim Long. Leaving the basic course with a good impression and enthusiasm to complete Inlands course offerings, I signed up for the Intermediate class without any hesitation. Unfortunately, my experience with Inland only went downhill from that point on. I went into training with Inland with the intention of training on a very specific platform, the 1911. I have had experience shooting with the 1911 in the past, and is the platform that I like and felt comfortable with. Seeing as how the magazine capacity has been limited to 10 rounds in California, it made logical sense to me to settle on a larger caliber that I could control in the .45ACP. The decision was whether or not to settle on a 10rd magazine with .45ACP or 9mm. At the time, I didn't own a 1911, and wanted to train on one, so when I did obtain one, I would be well-prepared. This was seemingly made possible, because Inland had advertised that they had a "vast selection" of which you could try as rental options. I reached out to Inland (both Ken and Scott) and asked if I could train on the 1911 for the Intermediate course. From that point forward, I felt like I was being met with heavy resistance and actively being steered away from the platform of my choice. I was given the "safety" speech about single-action triggers, and "inherent" problems with the 1911. For the sake of appeasement, since it was clear I was actively being steered towards striker fires like Glocks and Springfield XDs, I asked if I could have used one of those to rent, since I didn't own a firearm at the time. I remained professional, but firmly asked why I wasn't able to train on the platform that I was going to get anyway? It would have been counter-productive. My correspondence with Inland was ultimately met with anything but a "safe environment free from prejudice and elitism", there was plenty of prejudice against the 1911, and I felt like I was being talked down too as someone who was "obsessive and being misled". I'm not sure if there was a kink in the system or if some misunderstanding took place. But, I was left off with being told that my "choices and decisions did not fit with their philosophies and safety requirements". That left me confused, because how would my choices and decisions to train on my platform of choice not fit with their philosophy when it outright states the opposite? I'm further confused on the notion that somehow Inlands claim that the use of a "handgun that is not authorized or allowed by any modern law enforcement agency, or branch of the military creates unacceptable safety concerns" somehow diminishes one's ability to train on it. It feels like a cop-out answer, especially when referring to a platform that has won two wars, and literally almost every system of automatic pistol uses the design from the 1911. I thought I'd update this review. I have naturally gone to train with other schools, and have become quite proficient on the 1911 and other platforms. I'm still not certain whether or not Inland holds prejudice over the 1911. However, I hope they have stuck to the integrity of their advertised mission. read more

I'm a novice and was very apprehensive about going through this training, but the instructors, Steve, Brian and Dorian definitely put me at ease. I'm really glad I attended the Basic Handgun training class because I now feel more confident in knowing how to handle a gun.
