    Motel 6 - Guest Room

I see some reviewers don't realize that Motel 6 is strictly a budget motel. We are staying here for…read moretwo reasons: its free dog policy, and the central location between Portland and Bangor, the two places we are visiting here this week. But there is a balloon festival this weekend, so we are just staying two nights for now. It has an odd but not unpleasant setup. We are on the first floor. We have a sliding glass outer door very convenient to our vehicle parked just outside. Our normal inner hallway door is across from the registration office and right next to the laundry room where the ice machine and handy microwave are also located. The furnishings are stripped down, kind of funny so I took pictures. The "closet" is a high up shelf with a few hangers in it, the tv stand is a single shelf under a wall bracket. A bookshelf is the bureau. A tiny and low center shelf that is attached to the beds, holds the phone, no clock. I am not complaining about all that - it is Motel 6 after all. The price seems high for a budget place, but we are up north. This same room would be around $45 down south. It is not without issues, however. The toilet doesn't flush well at all and the secondary door frame lock on the inner door is broken. And of course, the walls are as thin as you would expect them to be. Oh, and on a side note, if you look at Google Maps and see a hiking trail around the corner at the Ramada Trailhead, don't believe it. It is mostly a snowmobile trail. It is physically possible to hike it, but the weeds are allowed to grow tall and one look at it suggested to us that it must be Tick Central. On the plus side, the A/C is quiet and the bathroom roomy with a shower that worked, so that is good. We always carry a bathroom bag, and that is helpful, for they offer tiny bars of soap but no shampoo.

My gripe is that it's hard to find. There's a sign on I-95 that only lists the Ramada for exit 80 when in fact there are several hotels here. This may not be Motel 6's fault, but it made my life harder since if you drive past that highway exit you're going 7 more miles before you can turn around, total 14 miles wasted. And there is no tall Motel 6 sign visible from the highway. Even after you exit you can't see the hotel. The sign is so short you have to be right in front of the hotel before you can see it.

"Free breakfast" was ridiculous (no coffee, no eggs, no bagels, ...) ... and the Hot Tub was closed for repairs or something. Right across the street from Ramada, the SureStay is a much, much better option for just about the same price.

The photos they have on their site are attractive and coming from the NYC metro area, "hotel and conference center" make it sound like a typical hotel. We walked in & the front desk person was immediately rude and unpleasant. I gave my name and he just snapped, "I don't have any 1st floor rooms". I hadn't asked for a first floor room so I wasn't sure why he was telling me this. He gave us a room & said "it's up the stairs". I said, "Oh, there's no elevator?" and he said, "no", which must be why he barked that there were no 1st floor rooms available. I asked him if my friend, checking in later, could be near us. He sighed & asked her name. He just said a terse "No", with no explanation. There was a sign on the front desk that the pool was closed for maintenance. So, if we had wanted to use the pool, it was unavailable. We went up to our room and as soon as we opened the door, we smelled old smoke and mildew. It was supposed to be a non-smoking room but clearly it had been smoked in at some point. I didn't expect any other room to be better, nor do I think there were any other rooms available. A guy had come into the lobby yelling about having paid for a room and there being no rooms available, so we turned the air conditioning on and hoped it would dissipate. The ac only read in celsius so we had to look up what number to leave it on. There was urine on the toilet seat. I didn't see this when I first went in the bathroom because the lid was up, but when the lid was put down, there was something on the lid as well. I don't know if it was dirt or what. The toilet dispenser was broken so the toilet paper was left on the toilet tank. The toilet ran all night, loudly. I had to find a white noise app on my phone and keep that on. When my husband went to shower that first night, I heard him say, "what the f" and I didn't know what happened. When he came out he said there is something that looks like pubic hair mixed with our cat's throw-up on the shower curtain. There were stains on the carpet by the sink. The towel holder on the cabinet under the sink was broken & jagged. When I got into bed, I noticed that some kind of liquid, possibly coffee, had been spilled down the side of the night stand. My nightstand lamp didn't work. There was a broken mercury bulb. Didn't know that until my husband touched it. You're not supposed to touch those. The description of the hotel said that each room has complimentary coffee, which was not the case. There was a coffee maker, but no coffee or cups. They also had coffee-like accoutrements in the lobby, but no actual coffee in them. There is a "charging station" area in the lobby, but nothing actually there. Nothing to charge anything with or any charging outlets. I booked through Expedia. I didn't want to go through the hotel for some type of reimbursement because I had another awful hotel experience in February 2023, where I did try to go through the hotel for some type of refund, to no avail. Just to be clear, I don't normally complain & I've never disputed a credit card charge for anything, but I definitely don't feel I should've had to pay for this stay at about $150/night with taxes and fees. But, for some of these trips, where I'm unfamiliar with the area, I have no idea where I am booking. I have to just rely on the fact that Expedia works with these hotels & take a chance. We could not leave to go to another hotel. This was a popular camp visiting day weekend, there aren't that many hotels to begin with, and there was no other place to go close enough to our son's camp. This hotel is at least thirty minutes away and we weren't looking to go further, especially without seeing anything available besides a literal tent. And what if the next place was even worse? I contacted Expedia before staying the 2nd night at the property. We had to stay a second night because we were seven hours from home and not prepared to start that drive at the end of visiting day. Expedia told me they would work on a partial refund and they'd get back to me within 24-48 hours. They didn't. I contacted them and they said the property was refusing to do anything for me and it was out of their hands. I contacted my Chase credit card to dispute the charge. They can't do anything because we didn't leave after the first night, even though we had nowhere to go & there was no other option. I also thought Expedia was working on it, so I had no idea that the only recourse I'd have would be if I left mid-stay. All in all, the Ramada is horrible. The front desk staff, especially "Mike", are not meant for the service industry. I would never stay here again. I would rather rent a tent.

The price is outrageous per night. They are pet friendly, which is wonderful. It is $30 a night for your dog. But I want to say more than a few nights. They do have extended stay availability. But the cost is high. Everything is good at first. But then they start fishing for reasons to get into your room. Accusing you of smoking in your room. Cussing your dog of urinating in the room. Even when you know, your dog is completely how trained. They start threatening you. The owner called me a mother F***** when I asked what happened to one of my dogs toys that happen to be left outside. All the hotel staff are terrified of dogs for them being foreigners. So what makes the entire stand uncomfortable. And if you stay long enough and don't require much housekeeping to maintain your room. They will literally find reasons to accuse you of things to get into your room. Just to see "what's going on in your room. all know it's not a terrible place. The rooms are clean. Just don't stay long because the expense amount of money you sell out per night plus a dog fee, getting accused of things that you didn't do. When you see people smoking crack in the parking lot. Especially when there's no business going on in the winter. They should be a lot nicer to the people that don't do anything wrong and keep to themselves for some of the riffraff that they have coming out of this place. They'll come knocking at your door telling you they're forcing you to leave your room for "house keeping" because hotel staff is afraid of dogs even if you have the privacy hanger on your door. Not to mention the owner has a 4 yr old daughter. They clearly have a living space behind the front desk. Well the little girl will go out of the room and scream and cry down the hallway at all hours of the day 11pm 6am:.. doesn't matter. I work late nights so 6 am crying when you don't have a kid disturbs your sleep. I've watched them too all they do is walk slowly behind her and she throws a tantrum down the hallway. So if you're gonna stay I suggest ask for the 2nd floor. And it's a franchise so they like to play god because you can't call corporate. And the girl at the front desk will straight up lie to you. Just be SURE to STAY away from this hotel

Nicole and Geoff have a beautiful inn and were so accommodating to our small wedding. The food is something I really want to highlight, the complimentary breakfasts were so tasty, and everyone loved them. We did a lobster bake for our rehearsal dinner and for the night of the wedding the Microwedding package we had purchased included a coursed dinner. Both meals absolutely blew us and our guests away. Our group's favorites were the seasonal creamed spinach, the hot honey burrata salad, and the filet mignon. We tend to be a little particular about food and the meals could not have been better. If you are debating having any kind of wedding at wolf cove or even just a romantic weekend away I would not hesitate to book here! Thank you to the Wolf Cove Inn team for making our wedding weekend so seamless and beautiful!
