5 star stay all th way. We came out with family for the week and had plans to go to the beach and see other parts of the river but it was pointless. For us this place had it all. Downtown was a short walk (groceries, pizza, sandwiches, anything you need) and on the property there were kitchen spaces for us to hang out with plenty to do on the property. Rooms #11 & 12 were amazing. 11 is the larger room and larger bathroom with 2 full beds. 12 has a pullout sofa and full bed. Easily sleeps 2 couples in each room or mom and dad and 2 kids, but that's not what you're there for. Outside (if you take both spaces) is a large outdoor deck divided in half by a wall but connected so you can get from one room to the other. It has a shared yard beyond that. The landscaping is amazing. The property is on the river with tons of space to chill in the water. They have a deck for the facility and everyone can use it. It's shared so be prepared to be with other people but it is a place that seems to attract a good crowd. Everyone who we ran into there was nice. Another thing on the property they was cool was coffee, fresh ice cold filtered water, popcorn, and the front desk made the kids cotton candy daily. There is an ice machine there as well so you can roast in the sun and drink ice cold filtered water till you pop. That part of the place is in the outdoor kitchen which is community and has board games and seating for everyone. Outside the kitchen is bathrooms and seating areas. 2 fireplaces for s'mores and I believe a bbq pit (I can't remember we have a travel size Traegar they let us use) as well. If I were to get married or have a party it would 1000% be here. I think there is 12 rooms and I'd rent the whole spot for it without even thinking twice. Maybe bring extra help to keep the party rolling but this place legit is perfect for it. They also have like a VIP outdoor seating area we didn't end up getting but has a TV and some "roped off" area to hang out at that is an amazing setup. I can keep going but we loved this place. Even upon arrival our room had spiders have babies in the room (happens yall it's on the river and def outdoorsy) and my wife felt awkward asking because we didn't want to sound like the complaining people but we asked for a vacuum to get them out. The lady actually came in the room and helped us. 5 star stay. 5 star people, oh and being a licensed contractor and getting along with people who work, the people who kept the grounds were cool too. Super nice to our kids, and when you see the landscape, you can tell they are good at their job. Can't say enough good stuff. We will be back. read more

Staff were super friendly and the owners were there, visiting on the grounds in the evening. They provide S'more kits, popcorn, water, ice, coffee and cotton candy! I'm happy to report that I had a S'more for the first time in about 30 years! Just a lot of personal touches, like a personalized note in our room that made us go awwwww. Great job RRI! Inn at Russian River If you're thinking of a family vacation this summer, check out the Inn at Russian River! We are so glad we did. Our family, 14 of us from age 1 to 81, spent a long weekend there this July. It is perfect! Clean, quiet, very comfortable rooms, a large Gazebo for all of us to meet for meals, plenty of picnic tables and a large lawn going down to the river. Beautiful gardens every where. We had our own fire Pit for s'mores. It was a perfect weekend for a family reunion in the summer on the Russian River. We had complete harmony amongst the 4 families, kids and grownups together. There was always something to do including kayaks, a nice pier to sit on, and otters and seals in the river. Kids were safe and happy, on their own and with the "elders." The staff were present if we needed, available to give us useful information. The 2 1/2 hr drive from Los Altos was easy, even on a weekend. Once we arrived, we never wanted to leave! read more

We stayed in a King Riverview studio unit on the ground floor in early November for our anniversary. We arrived a little early which the owner said was fine (they live onsite) but they were out to lunch upon checkin. They told us our room number and the door was unlocked. It had a nice deck with umbrella, but the weather was cold and foggy so we didn't use it. Room was nice but a bit dark and we could hear every word the upstairs guests were saying, so recommend staying on top units, even though you'll need to walk around in the summer to the river. The unit had a fridge, microwave, small stove, sitting area with tv, and small bathroom. It was a bit cold as the fake fireplace didn't work, but the AC / heater in wall unit did work. We couldn't sleep with it on because it was quite noisy. The Inn is in a pretty location right on the river but they have tons of weddings in the summer so it might be overrun with wedding guests and the ceremony / reception if you go (be sure to ask about it). They have a nice gazebo with coffee and ice and an outdoor fire pit which we didn't use. It's right in the town of Monte Rio which has a grocery store, coffee shop, movie theater in town. We golfed at Northwoods which is about 10 minutes down the road, and had dinner across the bridge at a German place which was quite good. At over $300/night, not sure it was worth it, but it was our anniversary and something different. The owners were very nice and improving the property. I would return in summer if there wasn't a wedding taking place. read more

They have fireplaces with extra chopped wood there's extra toiletries and a cute coffee station in your room. A communal area has BBQs and tongs, coffee in the morning with a collection of cups; Nothing here feels corporate or commercial. The room was clean, spacious and the bed comfortable. The woman at the desk was friendly and soft spoken, chill happy vibe. They even left us a handwritten welcome note. First time here and visited for 2 nights with my son. Stayed in a 2 bedroom with a balcony. It was perfect! Each room has their own tv and fan. Loved having my coffee on the balcony! Having the mini fridge and coffee maker was perfect. Bed was comfy too. Love the patio, the fireplace and the popcorn snack available in the afternoon. The s'mores kits are a very nice treat. The beach area was too muddy to enjoy. But the grounds are so peaceful and love the willow tree. Only small complaint is the road noise and the bathroom seat is not made for tall people. The Inn on the Russian River was absolute PERFECTION for our wedding. Stunning river backdrop, beautiful river dock, amazing willow and redwood trees, immaculate shaded seclusion, plenty of space for all of our guests. We literally could not have asked for more. Monte Rio is a place that holds so many memories, and is so special to us. As our yearly space and time for river activities amongst the redwoods with our family and doggos, it was the clear choice when we were trying to find the best bay area accessible river/forest location for our wedding. Then when we toured the Inn, we just knew that the magically natural vibes were EXACTLY what we were looking for, and so we built everything else around it! Leonora, Cassidy, and Sarah were all so helpful and so supportive throughout the entire process. We loved that they were able to provide the grounds as a beautifully maintained and designed by nature blank space, and that we could then add anything and everything that we wanted to to bring our dream wedding to life. With 11 beautiful rooms to hold our family, bridal party, and ring bearer doggos; and all of the gorgeous airbnb and hotels available in the direct area for the rest of our guests, it was just a no brainer. It was so nice to be able to have our friends and families from across the country and the globe come out to celebrate with us, and then to have them be able to plan more extended vacations with their families to tour the redwoods, the coast, and the wine country that surrounded us there. We'll Be Back! We absolutely loved our stay at this amazing hotel! We stayed in Room #8 and had a stunning view of the Russian River right from our balcony - such a peaceful and beautiful spot. River access was literally just outside our door. The room itself was perfect - cozy, clean, and had everythingwe could possibly need: fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, hot plate (with pans and utensils!), a ceiling fan with a remote, a nice TV with Roku, and even chairs on the balcony for relaxing with a view. On our first night, the power went out unexpectedly, but the owner, Leonora, handled it wonderfully. She gave us lanterns & battery pack for my blow dryer and straightener. Lol. We ended up building a fire in the outdoor fireplace - very romantic. The shower was excellent too - strong water pressure and plenty of hot water. Guerneville is about a 10-minute drive and we were thrilled to find some incredible vegan options in the area! Koala's Fine Food has fantastic vegan sushi we'll definitely be coming back for. Pat's International also has several plant-based dishes - we just missed it because they're closed on Wednesdays (note for next time!). If you're willing to venture a little further, Little Saint in Healdsburg is well worth the trip, and Sonoma Pizza Co in Forestville has great vegan options too. Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve is an amazing place in Guerneville for a peaceful walk among the redwoods or, a challenging hike to get your heart rate up. Highly recommend this place for a peaceful getaway with nature right at your doorstep and great access to nearby towns and eats. We can't wait to come back! read more

I love the new dock and the grounds are even more lovely than when I was here last summer: so many flowers, big lawn just steps away from the river, comfy seating. In my most recent stay in July 2025, we had a lovely, comfortable river view room with an extremely well stocked kitchen with lots of nice extra touches. The owner, Karen, and Cassidy, the manager, went out of their way to make our stay special. Karen even came by with delicious waffles, berries, and syrup one morning because she'd made extras. In the past when the family and I visited the Russian River, we would often camp at Johnson's Beach in Guernville. We arrived at the Inn on the Russian River on Friday and are sadly leaving today. Originally, we were supposed to visit New Orleans, but the Delta Variant, the late imposition of mask mandates, and the stupidity of people refusing to get vaccinated changed our minds and we were able to book the Inn on the Russian River at the last minute. The inn sits on the banks of the Russian River in the tiny hamlet of Monte Rio right off of Highway 116. Just 4 miles east of the action in Guernville. Needless to say, if you want peace and quiet, the Inn on the Russian River is the place you need to stay.....except for the occasional car speeding buy. I'm not familiar with many of the other inns and motels in the area so I can't attest to their amenities and luxuriousness. The Inn on the Russian River is a simple, unpretentious place. It gives you a comfortable and quiet place to rest your mind, body, and spirit. The inn consists of 12 rooms and suites. Each of them offering different accommodations depending on the size of your party. There are rooms that overlook the river that have balconies attached to them. We were assigned room 5, which faces Highway 116. It is equipped with a surprisingly comfortable queen sized bed and a full size sofa bed in the living room. A small TV, coffee maker, microwave(Nota. Kerug machine, coffee is provided.), and fridge that actually gets cold. Wifi is offered as cell reception, depending on your carrier, is nonexistent. I found the Wifi to be pretty strong. There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and living room since room 5 doesn't have air conditioning. It can get pretty warm on the Russian River, but just open the windows or leave the front door open when you're in residence and you'll get a nice breeze. The bathroom is small and narrow. FYI-The shower is very tiny so if you're a bigger person or intend to have someone join you in your bathing ritual....it won't happen. The shower head doesn't sit very high at all so if you're above 5 feet tall, just be aware. Also, the inn is on a septic system so be gentle. The decor in room 5 is a hodgepodge of things. I was expecting more kitschy river stuff like pictures of bears in canoes, etc., but didn't find any of that. The couch was actually pretty comfortable to sit on and watch tv. I was surprised being that it was a sofa bed. There is also an additional chair and ottoman to relax on as well. The front porch of every room has two rustic wooden chairs and a small table for you to sit outside and enjoy your morning coffee or a bottle of wine (Morning or afternoon. I don't judge.). Access to the beach and patio area is a short walk behind the inn. There you will find an expansive green space with trees and a view of the river. It is a great place to relax and enjoy a bottle of wine, or do Yoga as one of our neighbors did. The beach that the inn offers really isn't usable. The shoreline is covered in foliage, but you can walk along a small trail along the shore and find a more usable beach. Since California is in a drought, the river is low, but still enjoyable. Monte Rio, where the Inn on the Russian River is located is a great location to use as your headquarters while exploring the area. As I said before, you are 4 miles from Guernville. You are also 6 miles from the town of Occidental, 10 miles to Freestone (Check out Freestone Artisan Cheese.) and about 45 minutes to an hour to the coastal communities of Bodega Bay and Marshall. All of the aforementioned places offer great dining options. Access to the legendary Bohemian Highway is literally around the cornet from the inn and the mysterious dark heart known as the Bohemian Grove is supposedly across the river, hidden in the dark mysterious canopy of the redwoods. If you are looking to go wine tasting, there are some wineries that are as close as 10 miles from the inn. Otherwise, you are an hour and fifteen minutes south to Sonoma, and and about 30 minutes north to Healdsburg, Geyserville, and the Dry Creek Valley. Calistoga, St. Helena, and the wine bully known as Napa are about an hour or more east of the inn. Monte Rio has a few restaurants, but other than that, it is a sleepy little place that rolls up around 6 or 7 at night. There is a small convenience store directly across the street from the inn that is reasonably priced and offers everything you might need without having to drive into Guernville. There are no gas stations in Monte Rio so make sure to fill up in Guernville or elsewhere. The Mrs. liked the Inn on the Russian River so much that she said she doesn't want to go camping again and wants to make an annual pilgrimage to the Russian River and stay at the inn. I'm right there with her. My daughter is indifferent to the whole experience as most teenagers are. read more

Nice quiet little place, nice seating area above the river. Good fire pit and bbq area (bring your own supplies). Nice quiet place to relax during the day time hours. Sad to say the interior was not all that great. The shower water pressure is dismal and not very hot. Plus there is no stop on the shower handle so you have to play with it a couple minutes to get the water to stop. The walls are super thin. The roof is the worst if your in one of the lower units bc you hear every movement and it's like the people upstairs are the teacher from Charlie Brown. Now don't get me wrong the interior does have some charms, nice little seating area cute little kitchen and stove. Couch is a little stiff. Couldn't just open the window though for cross breeze at night bc there are no screens on the windows. Which was a disappointment. Overall not sure we would be back again but nice place to be for a single night maybe. Weird little convenience store across the street. Lots of places not open during the week for dining. Only recommendation in the area would be Saucy Ma'mas. Great fried chicken. read more

Bittersweet. Between the beautiful scenery and the very friendly staff, it was a first-class experience that I and my family will cherish. The river was picturesque. I booked through bring fido and I will speak more on that later. Lots of tasty eats within driving distance. What has left a bitter taste in my mouth has been the billing process for pets. It is not clear and to be honest confusing. I stayed and enjoyed myself and left. I received a phone call after I had traveled home stating that I didn't pay the pet fee and that it should have been reviewed with me. No problem, I knew there was a pet fee and I was happy to pay it after my stay because I had seen that I was not charged for it and I wanted to make the experience for the host a positive one as well. On bring fido it clearly states Pet Policy "Inn on the Russian River welcomes two dogs of any size for an additional fee of $50 per night." I don't book getaways very often, in fact, I am a novice, so naturally, I didn't think I needed to look elsewhere for pet fees after reading this. I later learned that the fee was per pet, which is why I was charged $100.00 instead for my 2 dogs. I requested a refund for 1 dog fee on the grounds that the statement was misleading. There was a lack of ownership of this mistake and I eventually withdrew my request since it appeared as though a discussion was not willing to be had, in fact, I was ghosted and I was not heard because it was later pointed out that eventually the fee is stated as per pet. The two fees contradict themselves and to be honest, had I known I would've modified my plans. Not bringing pets? 5 stars. Bringing pets? 4 until the language is clear about pets. read more

I will not be able to give any stars to this establishment. I made reservations for one night on Dec. 28th for two rooms and came down with Covid on Dec. 25th. I called on the 26th and they said they needed a 7 day cancelation notice. I have never booked a stay at any hotel that required a 7 day cancelation. They also charged the second room on my card without my approval. I will make sure to tell anyone who is thinking of making a reservation here to not do it. Stay somewhere else. read more

Went here for a short Romantic getaway, at first glance it doesn't seem like much but upon entering our Cottage I fell in love. The rooms are small but just right if you're looking for an intimate setting. I will definitely be revisiting this place. There's a beautiful backyard with a Barbecue grill as well as a Cabana, it backs to the RUSSIAN RIVER. Although it's located next to the road there was absolutely No Noise. read more

For all the times Jamie W. and I have gone up to the Russian River, we never stayed overnight before checking into the Rio Villa. The challenge has been that most places require a two-night minimum, so you have to either buzz up there after work or take advantage of a three-day weekend like we did on Easter. The website is pretty descriptive in regard to the rooms and grounds, but I have to admit I wasn't quite expecting what it really is, an old-timey motel. Remember those? My dad used to take us on road trips across the western part of the country in the Rambler station wagon, and we stayed in motels like the Rodeway Inn. Or if we were really lucky, we'd stay at Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge since that meant a slide at the swimming pool and fried clams with tartar sauce for dinner. But there's no slide at Rio Villa. There isn't even a pool, not an issue on a particularly rainy Easter, but it's close to the public beach which I'm sure is a big perk during the summer. And no surprise there are no fried clams since there isn't a dining room although they do have pastries next to the reception area as part of the continental breakfast. There's also the bucolic location next to a quiet bend of the river where you can sit on a swinging bench or relax next to the outdoor fireplace in the evening, neither of which we had time to do during our brief stay (photo: http://bit.ly/1LvgF4R). For $190 per night, we stayed in Unit #8 with the River View Balcony which was exactly that, a room with a river view and a balcony, the best feature (photo: http://bit.ly/1HADDpU). With a queen-size bed (photo: http://bit.ly/1IUHXC4), a futon sofa and a kitchenette, it was comfortable enough even if the decor felt rather dated like I was about to be attacked by Javier Bardem in his bad haircut in "No Country for Old Men". Note the tiny TV set and the large library of DVDs available to borrow with movies made no later than 1995. At least they weren't in Betamax. About ten minutes west of Guerneville, Monte Rio is a cute almost-town with a couple of quick markets and even a local repertory theater just across the road. If you're looking for no-frills peace-and-quiet, you could do far worse than Rio Villa. read more

7 stars. We came last month for my 41st birthday on a whim. I wanted something not so modern, out of my norm and somewhere I haven't been before. The birthday plan was to do a bioluminescence kayak ride in Marshall, about an hour or less away and stay here. Turned out winds were way to fast (15-20MPH) to ride. But happily for us, Bodega Bay hike was close by, around 20 minutes, and this place was so uber cute and adorable, it swapped out all ill feelings from our spur of the moment change of events. Talking to Karen, the building owner & operator, made staying here a breeze. I already knew how the place looked from reviews & yelp pix (and it looks so much prettier in person): rustic, like glamping, lots of brown, wooded type place, tons of big billowing, seeping & flowering trees, Russian river literally lazily flowing behind the property (you can kayak back there!), a communal firepit in the back complete with chairs & firewood, grass big enough to play frisbee, enough chairs for a party, and little sparkling lights that romantically light up the night when the sun goes to sleep. I already knew I wanted to stay here, there was no doubt. Karen made it easy for me to choose this place. She was so informative, warm & unrobotic (like hotel.com or hotel chain reservationists can sound at times). In my 2 phone calls to her, she gave me info about local restaurants, weather, kayaking, pretty much everything I would need to know about my stay, including the best room for us to stay in. She even hooked us up with a last minute discount & allowed us to look at other rooms we considered. My only concern (not a complaint) would be noise. We were sitting by the fire at night and a family of 4 (had 2 kids) arrived late. We could hear everything they said from their balconys open doors. I thought, man if this were a full house (we stayed and it was almost empty), it would be super noisy if all rooms were full and everyone were enjoying the fireplace or all laughing & sipping their vino on their balconies too. On another note, it would be a beautiful place to come and renew vows or get married and have all the family come and book the place out for a wedding. It was my bday weekend so i knew I wanted to splurge a bit. We ended up with room #7. It had a large bed that doesn't squeak, dishes, sink, coffee maker, a fabulous lanai (patio) great for sipping wine, eating dark chocolate & grapes & our oysters we just got from Bodega bay oyster company. It had a TV, 2 big leatherish seats, and (the selling point) a 2 person Jacuzzi tub. NOTE the tub isn't THAT big, but its's big enough for me (5'1) and HUbby (5'10) to squeeze into. Would I stay here again? YES in a heartbeat. already planning it in my head when we can go again. :) read more
