View from my bed! I loved that fireplace

I had a wonderful weekend at the Highlands Resort. Note: this place is no longer clothing optional. When the new owner purchased the property about two years ago, they changed that policy. So bring your bathing suit I organized a writers retreat here and really loved the setting in the woods with redwood trees all around but still walking distance to town. You're just around the corner from the Guerneville library (for reference). We visited right at the end of the season, so there weren't a ton of people in Guerneville, but the weather was still nice. The decor is great. You can tell a lot of thought was put into the finishes. I loved how the curtains matched the homemade pillows and the fabrics were carried throughout the property. We were a group of 5, so we were able to hold our meetings on site. We made use of the fairy ring seating, the fire pit, the tables at the pool, and the music room (the one day it rained). Each "room" is a separate cabin. They're pretty close to each other, but you can't really hear your neighbors. Each cabin has a little wet bar with a mini fridge and a sink, but there are also two cabins with kitchens and one with a soaking tub that you can reserve. In the summer they also have a campground in the back. There's no smoking in property, but there is another fairy ring of trees with seating in the parking lot that is the designated smoking area. Breakfast was sparse but sufficient. If I were staying more than 2 nights, I would get tired of the yogurt, cold, hard-boiled eggs, and sweet bread every day, but for just 2 nights, it worked. I really loved this location and would definitely stay again. The large open shower with public goods products was a pleasure to use. I enjoyed getting cozy with the fireplace in the room. It was a nice thing to fall asleep to and wake up to. It kept the room at a perfect temperature that you could control with a thermostat. The people who work there are great and were helpful in providing suggestions for what to do in the area at what times. They helped to confirm which restaurants would still be open so late in the season and suggested wineries to visit. Many thanks to Cathy, Isabella, and Ashley for making this trip a success.

Fantastic, cute place to stay while visiting the Russian River area. The hotel was very peaceful and quiet. The room was clean and spacious, and it looks recently renovated. We booked the king spa room and enjoyed the soaking tub and fireplace. We also enjoyed using their pool. Parking and breakfast were included. The hotel staff were very friendly and it was easy to communicate with via text. Overall, highly recommend for anyone visiting the area!

The fire ring near the serving station for the continental breakfast. Great for getting to know the other guests.

we just had the most relaxing staycation at The Highlands Resort with a cute little cabin, swimming in the heated pool and watching "hummingbird moths" in the gardens. Brought the dog and took him on many walks in the neighborhood and especially enjoyed a visit to the pioneer cemetery dating back to the late 1880s. He was on a vacay too! The setting at The Highlands is very peaceful with a magical fairy ring (circle of redwoods) in the center of the parking lot. Our cabin was elegantly rustic yet nicely appointed. We sat on our little porch which was surprisingly quiet and without any road noise. it is a short distance from downtown Guerneville with its cute little shops and restaurants. A continental breakfast was available in the morning with tasty pastries and coffee, and I enjoyed sitting by the fireplace with my coffee and chatting with other guests. Our cabin had a little kitchen but we didn't use it, choosing instead to have dinner at boon eat+ drink on Main Street followed by drinks at the Rainbow Cattle Company. Oh, and ice cream at the Bank Building My only regret is that I didn't spend more time in the lounge aka: music room that looks out over gardens and the pool. I found everything about my stay flawless.

I was so happy here. The setting is idyllic, set in the midst of beautiful redwood trees with very nicely curated gardens. The resort cats are very friendly and add to the welcoming atmosphere. We got a cabin with a kitchenette, and it was perfect. We visit hotels all over the world and there is always something that is broken/not working/missing etc. The owners have absolutely put a lot of money into making these cabins very functional! I really enjoyed the upgraded shower/vanity/bathroom setup. I did use the oven (to bake a lasagna) and it worked perfectly. There was a comfortable patio out front, and we had many pleasant hours sipping wine, enjoying our charcuterie, and petting the loving lap cats (who were NOT beggars.) The silence of the massive forest is hypnotic. The sitting rooms of the cabins are very relaxing, and the bedrooms are very comfortable. The heated pool is an oasis. Although it was rainy and cold while we were there, the pool is like a spa. We are early risers and so the continental breakfast for us was a bit late (8:30AM). We did go one morning, and it was very pleasant; what I would expect at a small European hotel. Unfortunately, the surrounding town of Guerneville is a very odd town in that there are no breakfast places open and restaurants that have quirky hours. One last note, the staff could not be nicer or more welcoming. Thank you! And we'll look forward to seeing you again!

Enchanting Redwood Retreat - Pure Bliss! We recently stayed at this lovely cabin resort in the redwoods of Northern California, and it was the perfect combination of nature and comfort! Nestled among the majestic trees, the cabins are cozy and beautifully designed. We stayed in the King Spa Cabin with a gorgeous, deep soaking tub for two and fireplace. Loved the cute outdoor complimentary continental breakfast option. The staff is friendly and helpful. Surrounded by nature's beauty, The Highlands Resort is an enchanting getaway that will leave you refreshed and rejuvenated. Highly recommend this magical redwood retreat!

Our new favorite Bed & Breakfast in Guerneville. We stayed for 5 nights in mid-October to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. Newly refurbished cabins were clean, comfortable, and tastefully decorated. Our cabin was pet friendly, had a King bed, fridge & kitchen sink, and gas fireplace heater for colder weather. The property is meticulously maintained, perched up the hill among beautiful towering redwoods, and nicely landscaped flower beds. Easy walk down the hill to Guerneville's river and beaches, and town center where there are lots of great eats like Boon Eat+Drink, local shops to peruse, etc. There's also a Safeway on the other end of town in case you need just about anything else. They don't advertise that they include a Continental breakfast, so it was a pleasant perk to find daily featured fruit bakery items (pear bread, apple cinnamon, etc), hard boiled eggs, granola & yogurt, fresh fruit, juice, coffee and tea offered by the fire pit & BBQ area every morning. Nice pool area, seasonally heated, with plenty of deck chairs to sun bathe and read some books. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Already looking forward to our next visit!

we booked a tent spot here last minute on the 3 day weekend because our usual place was booked up. This was our first glamming experience. The property is absolutely Beautiful! Our tent was huge & so cute and clean. There we're sweet details like the lantern, hangers, towels, and cute little light. They had the coolest outdoor showers. And also two separate indoor showers. a Beautiful and peaceful pool. They also offer a nice continental breakfast in the morning with homemade bread. They have cute little sitting areas around the resort, super peaceful. it's in walking distance from downtown Guernville. And a very inviting vibe. Everyone who works there is super friendly and accommodating We were so lucky that there was an opening. We will definitely be back.

Meh it's ok. First time staying at Highlands. It's actually multiple cabins that are next door to each other. I think all the cabins are the same except for the larger ones. They have a bed, pull out couch, full bath, and mini kitchen. You couldn't cook hot food, but you could pour drinks. They also have a patio. On the property is a pool and grill. The biggest complaint was no AC. Breakfast was nice. Right now you order at a counter and they bring it out. You can get coffee, juice, granola, muffin and fruit. Unfortunately, now that they no longer allow nude sunbathing the pool is dead. While the R3 was packed all weekend, I was lucky to see 1-2 people at the Highlands pool. It looks close to the main town, and it is. But what Google Maps doesn't tell you is that it's strait up a large hill. And there are no street lights. Walking up at 2am and drunk was no fun. I'd say there are other hotels in Guerneville to stay at that are nicer for the same price.

The Highlands has been my favorite LGBTQ+ resort in Guerneville since the 1980s. I have always enjoyed the natural beauty of the tall Redwoods and other trees that inhabit the property, and the relaxed setting at the pool and grounds are a great escape from the busier and wilder atmosphere of the other resorts. With my partner, we stayed a the Highlands for a Wednesday through Saturday stay during the Pride month of June. The property has been recently redone and the grounds are impeccably tended and the rooms are beautifully appointed. It is a welcome upgrade from from its previous rustic state and well worth the increased price of the rooms. The staff was extremely welcoming, professional, and courteous (except for one staff member, and I will get to her later). It is necessary to mention that a very small minority of guests were gay men during our stay. Also, there is usually almost no one poolside of ANY affiliation. The picture attached is at 2:45pm on a warm summer Saturday when only my partner (pictured) and I were present for nearly 2 hours. Poolside was like a ghost town for our 4 days. There have been many changes in the last 2-3 years, and it is obvious some combination of these has driven many gay male clients from staying here. Perhaps where (I do not know where) The Highlands has been advertising is a factor. The Highlands used to be clothing optional by the pool, and also have a hot tub where the campsite showers are now. These changes seem unlikely to have caused the gay exodus however, since the very popular gay R3 Hotel is not clothing optional and likewise got rid of their hot tub. The option to pay for day-use of the pool has also gone away, and I suspect this is a major culprit for the current gay exodus. We ran into only one other gay male couple staying at the resort but we already had one similar experience to share with each other. Both of our differing questions (on different days) to Cathy (who may be the business manager) resulted in a scolding retort from her of "Did you read the information card in your room?" I do not know if Cathy treats everyone this way or just the gay male clients, so her unwelcoming responses could be a partial factor. I must mention again every other staff person encountered was very pleasant. In summary, it is a lovely and quiet resort, but the mix of guests seems to be mostly straight folks, some lesbians, and very few gay men. As nice as the new Highlands is, It would be nicer if it were a relaxed, primarily gay/lesbian resort with a few more people by the pool via day-use.

I loved my stay at Highlands! Everyone was super friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Scout Tent and it was amazing. The bed was more comfortable than my own and the tent was clean and cozy. They have a sink and outdoor showers by the tents and two private bathrooms with showers for use near the office. The town is also very cute with lots of activities and people out and about. Would 100% recommend.

First the location is excellent - it is walkable to downtown Guerneville, which opens up more food options including the amazing Boon restaurant, which we loved so much we had two dinners in a row there. The grounds at Dawn Ranch are also vast with lots of room for pups to run around and for humans to explore. There are 2 pools and direct access to the river, where they also provide kayaks, floaties and beach chairs. There are also 2 food establishments onsite: one offering casual grill items near the pool and the other formal restaurant/bar at the lodge. Overall, the shared space is nicely imagined and used. The only exception is the horrendously narrow parking spots and claustrophobically small cabins. Both still give me anxiety on reflection and are annoying enough that makes me question whether I'd return. The establishment is dog friendly but only certain smaller cabins accept pets so you will be relegated to Sycamore if you bring your pup. They tried to make the cabins nice/luxe with Parachute linens and Frette towels but the Sycamore is just too small, dark and narrow so I found it hard to relax as I was constantly banging my knees on furniture or balancing items on the tiny surfaces for the few pieces of furniture that fit into the room. Comparatively other glamping options like Autocamp, Wild Haven, Mendocino Grove have more space and light so it felt less claustrophobic. This cabin size constraint is the only reason I wouldn't stay again. The other watch point is that Dawn Ranch also hosted a lot of families during our stay so expect screaming children at the pool and picnic areas, especially during summer stays. Since most of the Instagram reels presents Dawn Ranch as relaxing and romantic, it's important to know the vibe can vary. It's such a large property, it would have been nice to have quiet, adult areas instead of having to use earplugs to avoid the gaggles of children. On the other hand, if you have children or dogs, expect them to find themselves companions while on site! We also enjoyed the daily wellness experiences, such as free s'mores at night, crafting activities, journaling, colored sketching, and river activities. Forest bathing was canceled the weekend we were present.. anyhow lots to do on the resort as well as nearby.

After walking around in white socks, the bottoms were black/brown, both wine glasses provided were dirty, there was visible mildew/mold in the shower, and one of the hand towels was literally ripped in half. We stayed on the Grove side, which is across the street from most of the amenities. Personally, I wouldn't recommend staying on that side. It's a fairly long walk to get to the main property, and you have to cross a busy street. If you're traveling with little kids, be aware that the food options on the property are limited, so you'll likely need to plan for meals off-property.

Downtown was a short walk (groceries, pizza, sandwiches, anything you need) and on the property there were kitchen spaces for us to hang out with plenty to do on the property. Rooms #11 & 12 were amazing. 11 is the larger room and larger bathroom with 2 full beds. 12 has a pullout sofa and full bed. Easily sleeps 2 couples in each room or mom and dad and 2 kids, but that's not what you're there for. Outside (if you take both spaces) is a large outdoor deck divided in half by a wall but connected so you can get from one room to the other. It has a shared yard beyond that. The landscaping is amazing. The property is on the river with tons of space to chill in the water. They have a deck for the facility and everyone can use it. It's shared so be prepared to be with other people but it is a place that seems to attract a good crowd. Everyone who we ran into there was nice. Another thing on the property they was cool was coffee, fresh ice cold filtered water, popcorn, and the front desk made the kids cotton candy daily. There is an ice machine there as well so you can roast in the sun and drink ice cold filtered water till you pop. That part of the place is in the outdoor kitchen which is community and has board games and seating for everyone. Outside the kitchen is bathrooms and seating areas. 2 fireplaces for s'mores and I believe a bbq pit (I can't remember we have a travel size Traegar they let us use) as well. If I were to get married or have a party it would 1000% be here. I think there is 12 rooms and I'd rent the whole spot for it without even thinking twice. Maybe bring extra help to keep the party rolling but this place legit is perfect for it. They also have like a VIP outdoor seating area we didn't end up getting but has a TV and some "roped off" area to hang out at that is an amazing setup. I can keep going but we loved this place. Even upon arrival our room had spiders have babies in the room (happens yall it's on the river and def outdoorsy) and my wife felt awkward asking because we didn't want to sound like the complaining people but we asked for a vacuum to get them out. The lady actually came in the room and helped us. 5 star stay. 5 star people, oh and being a licensed contractor and getting along with people who work, the people who kept the grounds were cool too. I'm happy to report that I had a S'more for the first time in about 30 years! Just a lot of personal touches, like a personalized note in our room that made us go awwwww. Great job RRI! Keep up the good work. We WILL be back, and for more than one night.

We stayed here while attending a wedding across the street at Dawn Ranch. So many issues affecting…read moreour satisfaction, comfort and overall experience we had. * The ceiling is half painted in one color and half painted in another. Obvious recent patching done to the ceiling. Patching was done poorly, and the paint cover up was worse (picture attached). * It was a hot day, attempted to close the blinds. 2 of 3 blinds would not close. Frustrating. Managed to get only 1 down half mast. * No battery in our smoke detector. (picture attached) * There were cups wrapped in plastic next to sink. There was a spider INSIDE of the plastic wrap. It was revolting. (picture attached) * Vanity looked new but top drawer would not open and close. The cabinet drawers were not aligned and unstable. Further, the insides of the drawers were already soiled and stained. (pictures attached) * No drawers for clothes. Where do we put our T-shirts? Underwear? Shorts? Pajamas? Lived out of suitcase. * No soap dish next to the sink. All of these, individually experienced, might have been trivial. However, collectively, they add up to an experience of being in a cheap motel. These were not the major issues. The three major issues we had were the flooring, the musty odor in the room and the dirty bathtub. * Floor was dirty. My wife took a picture of her socks after wearing them for under an hour. They were white socks and the feet were BLACK. (picture attached - this is not altered or edited in any way). * Musty smell. Like it had not been aired out in some time. * The bathtub was dirty, just unacceptable. Unfortunately, there is more but you get the picture. Caveat Emptor.

Room had a fridge, microwave, wine glasses, wine key, regular glasses, mugs and a keurig. Perfectly set. Deep soaking tub in the bathroom. Walking distance to all the bars and restaurants in town. I…read moream not a big on spending this much money for a hotel so as someone that counts every penny and this is the first time I've ever spent this much on a hotel I expected more. Idk how the rich people do it and my money could go so much further. After spending this much money I would rather own something on the block and have the rich people rent from my airbnb. In my humble opinion, it is not worth $500 a nice. I appreciate Hilton Honors for including this in their portfolio so I could get a taste of the hype. I would not come back again even to one of the more enticing locations. This was once in a lifetime and it is underwhelming. If you come as a diamond member you receive 2 waters a day, a s'mores kit, firewood and skewers. Nice free perk because we came here on an impromptu adventure and didn't plan ahead. Dog friendly property for $75 per a dog. Dog poop bags everywhere on the premise and you get a welcome bowl and blanket. You do not get it if you bring a service animal. Not sure if that is fair and is life fair?!

Overall I'd say we had an okay stay. The property is beautiful and well kept, the main building is…read morevery nice, and it's very close to the the little downtown and the river. There are some really good restaurants nearby and also a Safeway just down the road. Our unit - #9 - had a bathroom sliding barn door for the bathroom that was hard to slide open and closed. We had to shove it open, then shove to the side to get it opened enough for us to pass through. On our second night the A/C unit was dripping water/condensation onto us and the floor (photo will be included). It wasn't a lot of water, once I wiped it away it didn't do it again. On the second day I also discovered that the mini-fridge had water at the base of the inside so some of the groceries I bought were wet. In the kitchen area, the cabinets were sticky and the trash under the sink was still there from the last people who stayed there. The bathroom door that was not sliding well at all was the most annoying part. Overall none of these things are that bad, but for the price that they charge I expect more - especially with so many minor issues piled up. Most of these things we didn't realize until after we had everything in the unit and were settled, so requesting to move would have been a hassle too. The good is that the bedroom was nice - storage was good, the bed was comfy and clean and overall the space felt nice. I will suggest if you're in a premium Airstream and will have more than two people - for example, kids or a third or fourth adult - sleeping on the sofa, I'd suggest bringing a sleeping bag for them to sleep on/in. They supply a flat sheet, pillow and blanket, but nothing to wrap the sofa/futon in. Mine is not the popular opinion here, but this is a one and done experience with AutoCamp given what we got out of the price that we paid.
