I really wish I could this hotel a better rating. I went with 3 stars because they really did try to make things better. The truth is, the place could use a little TLC.
We arrived around noon and our room was ready, which is great! The staff was very welcoming and brought our luggage up (4th floor, no elevator - but we were aware of this). As soon as we entered the room we felt a very uncomfortable warmth. The room itself was very clean. We quickly ran to check the A/C, but ended up calling for service. Long story short, after 3 visits and 2 phone calls, we ended up sleeping with the one window we had open. Adding insult to injury, the TV cable box was not working properly. While we did not come to Rome to watch TV, we did turn it on while getting ready and at bedtime and it's an amenity we looked for in a hotel.
Early the next morning, my husband was determined to have our room changed. He didn't make it to the bottom of the stairs before the manager gave his sincere apologies. He informed him that he was very well aware of all the issues we'd had and were switching us to a bigger room with better A/C and more windows. A for effort, but apparently non of the A/C units here are in the best of conditions. I understand Europe has different cooling habits than the US, but we did not encounter this problem in Paris, Florence, Venice or Barcelona.
The room itself was clean and nicely decorated. A little thought could have been put into use of space, since rooms in Europe are on the smaller side. Also, a bunch of little things needed maintenance: the soap holder in the shower (both rooms we stayed in) was loose, so everything would fall. The toilet paper holder was also loose, so you couldn't depend on that either...Again, just a little TLC.
Cleanliness gets 5 stars and does customer service. 2.5-3 stars on maintenance. read more
