We had a pleasant stay here while awaiting our cruise. The room that we had was arguably small, with a wide and long window overlooking the back of other buildings. The bathroom is modern but also small. They provided an ample amount of towels and complete bathroom amenities. They served a buffet breakfast in their room. Our first room was small and didn't have a view of anything except antennas on rooftops and walls of other buildings. I requested another room but they couldn't accommodate us until the next day. The front desk did a nice job placing us in another larger room with views of the street and nice windows to look at the next day which we really appreciated the efforts since we were there 4 nights. read more

We traveled throughout Italy and I have to say this was the cleanest hotel by far. Everything felt newly updated and brand new. The staff does a great job of keeping this hotel clean. The front desk was very friendly. Our room did feel very small and so did the elevators. There is an awesome rooftop bar where you can also get complementary breakfast. I didn't feel that this hotel was centrally located to a lot of things in Rome and we had to take taxis to most places. read more

Of all the four entrées I ordered, the most unique receipe was the zucchini flan. The dish tastes like a soufle quiche, stirred with egg whites, which made the flan very creamy. Their octopus was smooth, and not too tough but had a rich, soft and meaty taste. The wait was a bit longer than expected, but the resturant was up on the rooftop of the hotel with a nice scenery and had a pleasant garden. Overall, it was a good try for a hotel eatery. read more

This hotel was booked by my travel agent. When we arrived in Rome June 22,2019 and arrived at the Marcella Royal Hotel. The moment we arrived at this hotel the service was excellent. Hotel bell boy opened the door as soon as we arrived. Our flight was delayed by 4 hours from Philadelphia. Since our flight was delayed, we were able to check in within the hour. We were ask to wait for check in time but the room was ready, but needed to wait for the time. So we sat on the sofa which surrounded the hotel. Oh bell hop introduced himself and assisted with our luggage. My husband and myself needed to ride one elevator (the elevator is very small) ( my husband said stand up coffin). My husband was so excited to meet our Filipino bell hop. Since this was our first time in Italy, and to this recommended hotel, it was nice to meet another Filipino that understood the language and environment. I highly recommend this hotel. The service provided was excellent. Our room was newly renovated the week before. The room is small. Very clean All new. Be aware - bed is 2 twin beds put together. I will not lie, We did fall between the 2 beds. Sheets are clean. 2 side tables on each side of the bed. Both sides had a place to plug in a chord for charging. The ceiling and headboard are really cool. Lights in the ceiling and behind the headboard. The bathroom again is bright and shiny. 1 week old. The hotel room does have a safe. The whole closet sliding doors as full mirrors. ****IMPORTANT**** Yes the bathroom , toilet,sink - all new PLEASE PLEASE Becareful!!! When entering the shower stall- Be careful!!!! THE FLOOR IS EXTREMELY SLIPPERY WHEN WET!!!!! My husband turned in the shower then disrobed. The moment he stepped on the shower floor - he slipped!!! Thank god the shower is not that big , that he was able to brace himself. From that moment on , we would fold up a towel and place it in the shower floor. This helped us. We did not want any mishaps. I know i mentioned that the bathroom is new. everything is so close together. Crowded. The rooftop has a nice view. It does have buffet for breakfast. The buffet is not likes the States. So I need to stop comparing, on vacation. The buffet service was good. Met more Filipino employees. The roof top had beautiful flowers and the set up was cute. You have a choice in the morning to sit inside or outside. When you leave the hotel , you hand in your key. And if you need taxi, the front desk will call a taxi and you will also know the amount you will pay prior to entering the taxi. Places near the hotel Pensere - pizza - first corner - highly suggest L Caruso- one of the best gelatos 45 min walk to Spanish steps and Trevi Fountain. I highly recommend this hotel read more

Beautiful Hotel....but out of all the hotels I have EVER stayed in and had a standard room... I have NEVER felt as if I was in a sardine can until coming here! NEVER EVER EVER get the standard room unless you are a tiny person or you are putting your small kid/kids in this room! The bathroom shower stall is also very small and the shower floor is slippery. I went to the front desk to asked about another room and the lady that I spoke to appeared to be upset that I would even mention my unhappiness and asking for another room. Then she acted as if she could t find any other room available, and that she couldn't move anyone else around (i don't know how you can't move someone else around that hasn't even checked in yet!). As far as I am concerned, bad customer service and didn't care that I was not happy! I also have a hard time believing the hotel is completely booked! The last time we stayed in Rome, we stayed at a different hotel that was just as nice, a standard room, cost less and the room was 3 times the size of this closet! Don't be fooled by the picture on their website of the standard room. It looks NOTHING like the picture! ***UPDATE*** 8/29 - my travel agency got in touch with the hotel and they are switching us to a MUCH better room...thank the LORD! Much better staff at the reception desk this morning. I have changed my rating from 2 star to 4. Also, the rooftop is absolutely beautiful and tranquil! read more

The staff are a liability. We were trying to enjoy a drink on the rooftop bar when one of them started throwing brooms and metal dust pans off the roof. One of them landed within inches of my mother's head, narrowly avoiding her. Stay somewhere else if you value safety. read more

First trip to Italy and Rome. This is a boutique hotel in a quieter area of center city. Having never been to Europe and used to USA hotels like Homewood and Hampton, this was quite different. Liked the character and charm. What it took used to was the smallness of things. Elevator fits 2 people comfortably max. Not used to that, but did the job. Room double bed was big enough for 2 with lovely openable double vertical windows to street. The shower was also small. 1 person size but nice rainfall and hand held spray wand. The room itself probably a quarter smaller than typical Hampton. Decorated nicely, wood floors. Room safe, hair dryer, coffeemaker and slippers provided. The breakfast is full hot similar to Hampton. Nice panoramic view from breakfast indoor and out on roof patio. Rooftop restaurant also serves lunch and dinner. Breakfast had hot eggs, meats, charcuterie items, donuts, pastries, cereal, fruit, pancake maker, cappuccino coffee machine, tea, juice, yogurts, non gluten choices as well. A few restaurants on the block and THE BEST artisan gelato place across the street. If you stay here go there, and go again, will write seperate review - I Caruso Gelateria has the most creamy, thick and flavorful artisan gelato! Front staff and bell service very hospitable and friendly, maid service as well. Clean property in a safe area. If you're a fan of Hampton Inn I think you would be happy here. Not a five star only because it's not a high end luxury hotel but has everything else. read more

We stayed at the end of trip in Rome. Our room was the same size as are walk in closet back home. Breakfast was horrible compared to other hotels we stayed at in Rome. My husband could not fit in shower. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. read more

Charming boutique hotel in Rome with only 94 rooms. Our weeklong stay was fabulous thanks to the hotel staff. Breakfast was included and the restaurant is located on the top level so views of the city were incredible! A garden terrace with seating is also on the top level so we spent our evenings enjoying a cocktail with the Roman city lights as a backdrop. Rooms are really small (typical European boutique hotel) but clean. Only negative for me was the long walk to the metro or to any attractions (more than 20 minutes). A few restaurants in the area (24 hour cafe around the corner-fabulous Rissotto and a Pizza restaurant with mosty locals and families was only a 10 minute walk. Since we arrived almost at midnight we walked to the cafe for something to eat. Safe and quiet neighborhood. The hotel was quaint and staff really delightful, but location is not optimal if you prefer to be closer to more shopping, restaurants and tourist attractions. read more

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay at the Hotel Marcella Royal in Rome.  Located near the Termini and the Galleria Borghese.  The room was spacious but modest and very quiet.  The staff was attentive and helpful. The crown jewel of the hotel is the restaurant/bar on the rooftop.  The food and service were excellent.  Our server, Salvatore, was charming and friendly. The only drawbacks were a minimally stocked minibar and uncomfortable chairs. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. read more

Had an excellent short stay here. Staff is great, breakfast was good, and the hotel restaurant is on a nice terrace. Rooms are clean, renovated and with a/c (something not to take for granted in Rome, cough cough). I cannot really share the comments on the hotel being "far from anything": Termini is literally a few hundred meters away, it can't take more than 10 minutes of slow walk to get to the metro or the train. In an hour or so of strolling from the hotel you can see Fontana di Trevi and Piazza Navona, and a few sights along the way including the Pantheon. Of course Rome is large ... so you may wish to look at a map and figure out where this hotel is :) read more

Great 3 Day Stay!!! Although his hotel offers smaller rooms (typical European style rooms), we were very impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms and the facilities. The staff provided excellent customer service. Edwin was friendly and always went out of his way to address our needs. We ended our evenings with a nightcap at the Roof Garden Bar. We enjoyed sipping on a glass of wine taking in the views on the roof. Bartender Salvatore provided us excellent service! Absolutely No Complaints! We will definitely recommend this hotel to our friends and family. Keep up the Good Work!!! read more

I like this hotel. I was worried at first because the picture online are a little scary. When we got our room and the bell hop opened the door what a sigh of relief. The room was brand new. Bathroom was nice, my favorite bathroom I had in Italy. The hallways need updating. Only problem here was the maid service. We were out all day and got back about 330 and wanted to nap before we went to dinner and on both days the room still wasn't done yet. I would definitely stay here again I liked it. The people at the front desk are very nice and the bell hop was such a nice guy. I didn't catch his name he was a Filipino gentleman. It is in good walking distance to all major attractions but not around the corner. 15-20 minute walks but enjoy the city of Rome while you walk. read more

An excellent hotel with friendly and helpful staff, clean and well-equipped rooms (of typical European size), and a wonderful rooftop with fantastic views that serves a very good breakfast buffet and cocktails at night. It is an older building, so expect traditional decor and high ceilings, but with WiFi, safe, and minibar. Many good restaurants very close by. Actually this review is for this hotel and the Rome experience. Marcella Hotel Royal: Old of course, the most recent update had to be the power card to turn on the lights, but they didn't opt to update the key system so you will have to walk around with a big key ring with a curtain tassel on it or ask the hotel to hold the key while you are out.... In Europe period the elevators are small so I won't blame this hotel for that flaw. The rooms looks like a bachelor who never married designed it, brown pillows and throw, which are removed after your 1st night. The staff wants to tell you where to eat so they can get a kick back. They over charged me for the city tax which mean I have to take my precious time out of my day to dispute the difference. Breakfast sucked, nothing really good here except they staff on the rooftop didn't mind opening our wine and providing us glasses. Rome: I honestly could not wait to get out of this city and and never return to this country. Restaurants here will charge you more if you don't pay attention to your bill. They are constantly trying to pull one over you and to make matters worst the city is mundane and closes super early. It's the most blatant city I've been to that says forget you pay me and doesn't have much to offer except ruins....yawn. read more

A charming boutique hotel. Reviews we had read said that the hotel was too far away from attractions, but in reality, a leisurely 20 minute stroll puts you at the entrance to Villa Borghese to the North, Trevi Fountain to the West, and the Termini metro station to the South, which will connect you, literally, with every other tourist attraction in the city with a 1.50€ ticket. I met a 60-year-old couple in the lobby who walked to Vatican City one morning. If they can do it, I'm about 98% sure you young-ass 20-somethings can do it, too. We took the bus because we were trying to see so much in a short period of time, and it's the fastest way to get around if you don't want to hop in a taxi and pay 25€ for a trip across down. The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful and multi-lingual. I heard one lady switch between Italian, Spanish, French, and English in the course of 10 minutes. Beautiful rooftop view of the city, all the way to the dome of St. Peter's Basilica. Delicious full breakfast every morning, and surrounded by very nice restaurants, and a few shops to grab a quick sandwich and drink on your way to the bus or metro station. Americans beware: what you think of as a "standard" hotel room is quite large by European standards. Don't expect a spacious room. But then again, you're in Rome -- what are you doing staying in your room in the first place? Go out and see something! read more

Wonderful hotel with a friendly staff. We had two rooms (family of 4) and they were updated and modern. Rooms were very clean. Rooftop garden/bar had great views and drinks. Mario (one of the hospitality hosts at the front desk) was very friendly and helpful - great suggestions on where to eat and things to do that are away from the tourist areas. The only reason I gave it a 4 star instead of 5 is because the bed was uncomfortable -- too firm for our taste. Otherwise, a great stay all around. read more

We had a wonderful stay in May 2012. The hotel staff were helpful, the breakfast was plentiful and delicious and the rooms quite charming. The hotel website sys they're overlooking the Spanish steps - this cannot be further from the truth. The hotel is a 15 minute walk to anything central in Rome. Rome is a big city, and this hotel is far from everything! Also - do not listen to the hotel for restaurant recommendations. They only refer people to three restaurants surrounding the hotel and these are all subpar. Take a cab into Trastevere for some delicious food and great surroundings! read more
