The detail in the rooms, the perfection at breakfast, the lovingly manicured grounds, assorted wonderful nooks... at first I was wondering what there is to DO in Highland and, to be honest, I'm still not sure... but given the bike path, beautiful scenery and Inn At Twaalfkill, I'm not sure what else you need. I'm not always a fan of B and Bs... they can tend to be a little twee and you feel like you have to tiptoe around... partially because the walls in a good hotel are much thicker, the spaces less cramped, your anonymity more protected. There may be a bit of that tip-toeing here (the floors are pretty squeaky and you are worried that you are making too much noise for someone on a different sleeping schedule) but that is the only downside. We had just spent two nights in a pretty nice hotel in Beacon. The room was over 50% more expensive than here and, while large enough, there was not one square foot of horizontal space to put anything down in the bathroom.... The room at Inn at Twaalfill had so much guest-friendly space (especially in the bathroom), you would not likely have a use for all of it. If all B&Bs were this great and this price, I would never stay anywhere else.

Situated just a couple of minutes from the Walkill Valley Rail Trail, The White Heron is perfectly located for any of you who wants to spend as much time on that wonderful area feature as possible. We did two hour hikes each day, one trek down to New Paltz and one trek to Rosendale. If you'd rather bike than hike, then don't leave yours at home! It's a short drive to NP, and then about twenty minutes down to The Ranch, for any of you looking to sky dive.

We were happily greeted with french wine and cheese and spent some time outside by the pond. Very beautiful house, grounds, and charming bedrooms. On Sunday morning we had a very early wake-up time and were going to miss the chef-prepared breakfast. The owner Valerie left us two bags filled with breakfast goodies for us to wake up to! Very nice touch. Greatly enjoyed my time at Le Petit Chateau. My only regret is that we did not have more time to enjoy this beautiful B&B.

After COVID put everything thing on hold, we were excited to get an opportunity to do this again. We were so happy we chose the Baker House in Rhinebeck for our stay. The B&B is located within walking distance of the center of town which makes it very convenient to avoid driving or worry about getting an Uber after a night in town. The house is beautiful and sits on a sizable property. Our hosts have done a wonderful job of renovating the house and grounds. We stayed in the 'Writer's Room's which was so spacious it should be called the 'Writer's Suite'. The room also had it's own private porch/deck. The bathroom was clean and had a large double shower. The room was such an oasis of relaxation for our stay. George and Sandra were wonderful hosts and offered nice additional touches. There was a happy hour and George provided some delicious cocktails each night as well as good conversation. Sandra's breakfasts were yummy. We appreciated their insight as far as where to eat and places to see in town. After a few years of not traveling, it was great to have such a positive experience to remind us how wonderful travel could be.

My room was on the fourth floor and had a lovely view of the lush green fields and trees below. It has a king bed which was very comfortable throughout my stay. It also had a nice little kitchenette with a closer to full size fridge than you normally get in hotels. It als had a small seating area with a sofa and desk. Both of which came in handy for hotel working. It was clean and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay (including Starbucks coffee and Coffee-mate liquid creamer in the room!). Get to it!
