Good choice for rock climbing! We stopped here while visiting Charlotte and had a great time. Inner Peaks offers bouldering, autobelay, top rope belay, and lead climbing with ample labelled routes. We were particularly impressed by the bouldering area. The prices are reasonable and comparable to other climbing facilities. Day pass is $24 plus $9 for rental shoes and harness. The employees are welcoming and emphasize safety. The bathrooms needed some attention and restocking, which was a minor concern. My first EVER time rock climbing was last weekend at Inner Peaks and I had a great experience!! Their facility was well kept with lots of space for climbers of various ages and abilities. Since I was new to rock climbing, I was brought along on a brief "how-to" session with an instructor. The staff was very friendly and helped ensure we were all comfortable with the equipment and using the walls, before we went off on our own. They were also very open and receptive to questions or assistance throughout your session. A day pass was a decent price with the inclusion of shoes (and a harness if you are belaying). Been looking for activities around the city to do, and came across this place. Very fun, yet challenging. If you are new to indoor rock climbing, they do have an instructional video to watch before you start as well as an amazing staff to answer any of you questions. They also guide you through hos to use the equipment and harnesses which is great! They have a number of walls to choose from, beginner to expert. Such a great workout to help strengthen your upper body. We really had a great time! It does take a bit of practice and building of strength especially if you are new, but a good challenge and workout to commit to. They offer daily passes as well as monthly. If you want a place to make you realize you're not as young or nimble as you used to be, look no further!my friends and I had so much fun attempting the courses. You will definitely get a workout in climbing. The staff were great explaining the layout of the place as well as the video instructing you about the various climbing options they have. The only downside was I wish they would give you the option of choosing to climb the auto belay sections or climbing with someone assisting you. We were disappointed in the limited amount of auto belay courses that there were. You will have maybe 5 that range from easy to hard. However there are way more courses with the ropes where you're assisted. When we went back to the counter to inquire about how to swap, they said unfortunately because we already started that would be something we have to come back for and ask about before hand. So we were stuck with the auto belay and bouldering. We still had fun nonetheless, however they should definitely point that out to new comers next time. Great place to go climbing! Their walls are pretty high so if you are a new or are scared of heights than you might want to go to the Matthews location instead. They have a handful of auto belays. The only downside is that there may be only two auto belays besides each other so if you have more than two groups of friends than you may get split up. If you do want to come maybe 3x a month than its worth investing in a membership. With the membereship you can get a free intro to belaying and bouldering classes! After the intro you can take a test and then belay with your friends instead of relying solely on the auto belays which is nice. This place also has a lot of areas to boulder which I am new to but everyone at this location is super nice and is willing to help give you some pointers! This is definitely a great place to have some full body workout. When I went rock climbing the first time my forearms were sore for a week! You can even work out at the gym or do yoga here on select days! read more

I'm concerned about safety issues. We have been climbing at IP for several years and the staff is in almost constant turnover. I think we've interacted with the same staff person maybe two times in four years. Being corrected about belay technique in a dangerous manner is incredibly scary, and having someone who doesn't have depth of experience interjecting into a session is a real sign of a potentially hazardous environment. I fully support creating a space where safety is top priority; knowing when, where, and how to navigate that is critically important. There have been accidents in gyms in NC caused by inadequate staff training and knowledge. Management should explore staff training to ensure consistency in policies and skill levels. read more

My daughter took a climbing class at the Matthews location. She was 'bouldering' and thereby not strapped into a harness. Unfortunately the instructors were not paying attention and she was climbing too high and fell. She suffered a compression fracture in the accident, but thankfully is recovering. I've been working with management of this company since this happened in March of 2022, in an effort to have their insurance provider cover a portion of the medical bills that have been piling up. Due to lack of response by the company and their insurance provider, these bills have now been sent to collection and I'm receiving harassing phone calls and letters as a result. I would not recommend supporting a company that treats customers in this way. read more

Zero supervision of their camp kids. Camp leaders are more concerned with talking to each other then paying attention to the kids. Theyre running all around underneath climbers potentially causing a climber or themselves to get hurt. They also let you climb in street shoes that have been who knows where and in the bathrooms. So the dirty bathroom floor is now on the climbing holds. They used to have a comment qr code where you can submit suggestions/complaints but they took it down because of all the complaints they were getting. read more

First time ever doing any type of indoor climbing and this place was SUPER nice about it. Signed waivers, watched a video on the set up and how to use the auto pully thingy (lol forgot the name) and then they set us up with where to go what to do and showed us the auto pull thing. There were some serious rock climbers in there. It's a sport that is super hard and they made it look easy. One guy reminded me of Tom Cruise in mission impossible. He was just hanging with one arm taking his time. Anyway, I clipped in and went up my first little wall as a warm up. Then ventured down to the other wall and made it up to the top every time. Great workout! They have a small gym/workout room with weights and treadmills. They offer day passes and also memberships. Good to go for a day but now they I've been I wouldn't want to pay monthly as I'm a one and done type person. Give it a try! It was a lot of fun and glad I did it! read more

Oh my my!! These people are fit!! Never been indoor climbing before, but decided to try it out. Super fun - lots of options for activities. There is climbing, bouldering, a gym - and a digital climbing wall for those who want a specific and new route. They change the pegs over so there is always something new and challenging and you can rent the equipment too. The parking lot is a bit small so get there early! Best tip about this place: you can go by yourself and clip in to an automatic rope pull that won't let you fall. read more

Easily one of the coolest places to check out in Charlotte. Inner Peaks recently expanded their local footprint by adding this South End location. Genius idea, I might add, to put it in South End. So honestly, I didn't care much for the location out near Matthews. The staff there had a tendency to be very disinterested and seemed rude most of the time. They weren't like what you got at most gyms where the staff seemed like they cared about working out, keeping the place clean, etc. Even here I'm beginning to notice that attitude sort of transfers over. That's a big reason I really can't afford Inner Peaks that 5th star. The other is price. If you have no gear, be prepared to drop $27 for a day pass with gear here. If you have gear it's $18 for a day pass. And the membership runs you $69/month. But considering what you get for the money, and if you come here often enough, it's probably worth the money. The routes are pretty awesome. I'm not some climbing savant or aficionado so I can't speak to the accuracy of the ratings. There are certainly some 5.10a routes that seem like 5.8s and some 5.9s that seem more like a 5.10d. But I suppose that keeps things interesting. There are also some V0s that seem much harder and likewise some V3s that feel like V1s. But I bet if you're an experienced and picky climber you're not even touching anything less than a 5.10d or a V5. (I'm going to assume if you're reading my review, you know what these "code words" mean. Sorry for the technical lexicon.) Nonetheless, the routes are changed up fairly regularly to keep you fresh and guessing. Never a dull moment with this place. There's also a neat shop up front with some members-only deals on merch. Climbing clothes, NC T-shirts, harnesses, shoes, books, grips for home practice, biners, etc. can be acquired here. Not sure how the members-only prices match up to places like REI for example, but in general it didn't seem too far off. The largest member discount I saw was about $10. There's also a regular gym-style "bonus" area attached for your cardio. You can mix it up here with some weight lifting, as opposed to lifting your own fat. The one downside here compared to the location on Independence is the lack of a slack line. They do however have yoga here now for that Inner Peace thing. So, give em a shot for your next recreational outing. Don't go in expecting a super friendly 'tude from the staff - it's hit or miss. And be ready to sit and watch a safety video with annoying music and sign your life away on a waiver. read more

please invest in your community in Southend. a clogged/broken A/C in the peak of a southeast summer is miserable, especially in a crowded space-- theres awareness that the previous owner did not run it often because the A/C unit wasnt big enough for the space, but with new owners making upgrades to the other gyms, it's unacceptable to not invest in this one during summer-- on top of having a broken water fountain. people sign waivers in case they fall or are injured yes, but not because they're expecting to pass out mid June because the facility owners refuse to make improvements or keep it up to code. this is dangerous. read more

Finally a decent sized rock gym in the Charlotte Metro Area. Inner Peaks final grew up to build a bigger location, which was highly needed and an incredibly smart business move. The location in the South-End will continue to be hot spot for activities and having a climbing gym near breweries will help maintain a sense of climbing community. I'll look at this from 2 view points. Newbies and Veterans to Climbing Newbies: If you haven't been climbing before, be prepared for a fun outing that will push you mentality and physically. Oh and your forearms will be screaming, in a good way. You will get an introduction, watch safety videos, then you can boulder (no-ropes), or take a belay test and climb the big walls (ropes and autobelays). ***Tip: Rent actual rock climbing shoes, they are worth the money and make the experience much better. Veterans: The route walls in the main area are high enough to get a good pump on (Go twice in a row to get a feel for an outdoor route). Geometry of the Walltopia Walls will lend itself to some interesting setting from the route setters. Beware Walltopia walls will eat your shoes alive. A nice large bouldering area spans the lower half of the building, and you can usually find an empty wall to work. It not all just steeps caves, as there is a slab wall. Bring your own lead ropes, or you can rent them for $3/5. Several autobelays so you can climb a good bit without a partner. ***Tip: Parking can be smashed in the evenings. If you are comfortable, park across the street in front of the Doggy-DayCare. (Across from the gas station) Route Setting is monochromatic, so it can get frustrating for colorblind people like massive when certain routes are set close to each other. (keep blues and purples separated, please.) Overall: It is just was the city needed and it is in a great location. Notes to Management: - Don't put a café/hangout in the section near the bathrooms, make that a systems board (training) area, put the hangout area in front near the counters. - Look into have more community building events. You did a great job with the Superbowl event. - Installing a Webcam for people to see a live feed on the website would be great to. Finally - I don't have to drive to the other side of the world to get some climbing in! The South End location has been long awaited by many. If you've been to the other location (CrownPoint), this location has much taller walls, more auto-belays, a lead arch and a bigger footprint in general. If you're looking to try out climbing, this may not be the best location for you - the walls really are quite high! I'd definitely recommend checking out their Crown Point location off Monroe road (check Groupon too) - and if you want to have your kids birthday party - Crown Point is much better suited for that as well. If you're a hard core climber, who wants to lead that new crimpy 5.13 that goes along the arch - South End is for you. Parking can get quite full - so don't be shy to part across Tryon, plenty of parking over there. Plus, if you park across Tryon, you're already halfway to Sycamore! Moved back from Colorado to South Carolina and found an extreme lack of climbing options. We drove 2 hours to Charlotte for a weekend just to try this climbing gym. It did not disappoint and was definitely worth the drive! Pretty excited to know there is a gym of this caliber within driving range. The bouldering area was nice with plenty of accessible routes. The padded floors were just like most of the gyms in Colorado and much better than having to constantly move the crash pads below your route like other gyms we've visited. The toprope area and autobelays, although we didn't use them, looked to be sweet with so much variation. Highly recommend!! Perfect for all levels of climbers. read more

Finally, the new gym is open! As a long time time member of Inner Peaks, I've been excited about the Southend location since they started talking about it. It is an amazing facility! The Crown Pointe location is great too, but the new one is better, obviously. It's taller and shinier and has amazing variety for indoor fake rock climbing. The atmosphere is great and over the years we've made a lot of friends and climbing partners. But, it has long been a pet peave of mine that they start vaccuuming an hour before they close. I suppose they have to clean up, but they always seem to get right up behind you, even underneath you. They crossed the line when they literally vaccuumed over my rope the other night. Can't they wait until morning when no one is there? The music selection is good sometimes, terrible sometimes, but that's a matter of taste. It is always too loud in the new gym. It is impossible to hear your climber when they are more than halfway up the wall. I feel like this is a bit unsafe. And then there is the price. Our membership for a family of 5 went from $84/mo to $155/mo. When family visits, we like to go to the gym, but now it costs close to $60 for two cousins to climb for two hours. Kind of crazy. All in all, I love both Inner Peaks locations but they get on my nerves sometimes and we can't afford it anymore, which really gets on my nerves. read more

I have just moved to Charlotte from Washington state where we are pretty spoiled with so much great outdoor climbing. This gym is a little gem. Being a member at this gym comes with many perks that I didn't have at my last gym. Inner peaks has shoes, harnesses and chalk bags available for use and at my old gym you had to rent all those. The front desk is super friendly and helpful. They also vacuum the mats every night. read more

Big points for a more central location after all these years! Since this spot recently opened the parking lot can get a big jammed up. There is more parking in the back and sometimes I just park on the side street across the street to avoid the hassle. Lots to love: - For serious (or if it isn't your first time) climbers there are tons of routes of varying length, lots to lead and auto belays with a vast range- great if training while alone - The work out facility is pretty solid - Plenty of bikes racks indoors And a few things to work on: -There is no yoga studio or climbing training area - these are reserved for the Crown Point location - Lead ropes are very limited- ask early and leave your keys or phone as a deposit - Setting is still a bit off. Use caution if you are a new leader. There is at least one route labeled 5.8 that is grades above this - I've always loved the friendly staff at Inner Peaks, maybe because they are slammed but they aren't as engaging here as at the O.G. location - It's also difficult to check in as a member if the staff is checking in first-timers - maybe a members only scan area? I'm going to keep coming here and now that this gym will continue to improve. It's an amazing place and I'm excited that so many people will be able to try rock climbing due to its proximity. read more

We had an excellent experience! We visited with 7 kids ages 11 to 17. The staff was very helpful and encouraging. The wide array of difficulties challenged everyone. I'm a climber from out of town. I arrived at the front desk enthusiastic to try out Inner Peaks new facility---everyone is climbing and having fun. I'm just about to check in. Then the officious desk worker at another desk says "its members only hours until 11." Having driven here about half an hour, I am obliged to sit and wait as others climb in front of me. For the next 26 minutes I have to wait here, until I am allowed to try out this new gym. Needless to say, the lack of hospitality was surprising. I won't be coming back. Something to consider: Great gym and facility. Joined with my daughter who is 9 and we are having a great time. Unfortunately Inner Peaks is so over complicating things. For most families this is a significant monthly spend. They should make it so easy and flexible but they don't and are missing the mark. First, I overcame the upfront cost/fees which seemed excessive. But we were underway and having a good time. Then, my daughter breaks her arm and I call on the 1st of the month to freeze my account which is the nice option the plaster all over their website. Well, you have to call by the 20th of the previous month. Also, you cannot freeze a family member it is all or nothing. I figured they would understand and get it done. Nope, they will gladly keep my money even though I can't go. Can I switch it to my son for two months so we can continue to enjoy our membership? Nope. sorry but our "contract" is with the little girl with the broken arm. They offered to terminate her account and then when she is ready I can reactivate her and pay the joining fee again??? Wow thanks... Doug, here is some feedback. Treat your members like members. Do anything you can to make them happy and continue collecting the monthly fees. The only thing I heard from your staff was contract this and contract that. Sorry your daughter did not break her arm before our cuttoff. What I should have heard was "sorry, your daughter broker her arm, obviously you will not be using the gym. We will stop taking your money until she gets better." read more

Love the location relative to me (I currently live in Elizabeth district). Staff is super friendly! If you want to take courses in rock climbing, they'll help you sign up. I recently just passed my lead climbing test with this gym and it was thorough. There's a good selection of auto belays for the single climbers. The rating scale in the bouldering area can be a bit inconsistent but otherwise, it's actually quite large. Nonetheless, love the gym! I find myself here very often. read more

Not a huge gym but I love it. I try to cling there 4-5 times a week. Really nice people and good routes. While there are two locations, I would recommend the Tryon location. The climbs are longer and there are more bouldering problems. Also a tiny but clean and well maintained gym that we use use often. read more

There is bouldering and route climbing for all ability levels (including some insanely challenging ones!) and they always have events and classes to help you become a better climber. My girlfriend took me to inner peaks as a surprise birthday present. As this was going to be my first time rock climbing I was excited for the experience. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. At check-in, we soon learned that they had lost our reservation and had to recreate it. During the check-in process, staff members asked each other whether we were supposed to watch the safety intro video. When I expressed concern that they did not seem to know whether we should watch a safety video and it was my first time, they minimized my concern and seemed annoyed that I even brought it up. (We never did watch a safety video or any video for that matter). Meanwhile, they went ahead and began the class without us even though we had arrived well before the class was scheduled to start. After the laborious check-in procedure we finally made it upstairs to begin the class. The instructor worked with us on some of the basics and had us work to ensure we understood how to tie the basic knots. However, we were then pushed way too quickly to "belay" and climb. (The "belayer's" job is to ensure the safety of the climber and to catch the climber should they fall). Many of us were extremely uncomfortable working as the "belyaer" yet the instructor continued to encourage us to keep going rather than work with us until we were 100% comfortable. (I ended up learning more safety techniques from the other couple next to us rather than the instructor.) During one newbie's climb, the instructor continued to give me basic instructions as the belayer while another newbie was climbing. Needless to say, if the climber had slipped at that time, I suspect that tragedy would soon follow as the back-up belayer was, you guessed it, another newbie! I was so unsettled by the initial experience that I refused to rope climb again during the rest of my visit. I am giving it two stars mostly for the facility. I would imagine that this is a great place if you are an experienced climber. But if you are new to the sport, I would not recommend it. read more
