As a former waitress/restaurant employee for 8 years, I always try to give places the benefit of the doubt when everything seems to be going wrong, but not this time! A friend and I stopped in on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and grabbed a table just inside the open windows. The place looked pretty full, but most people were just watching the hockey game. It took 20 minutes for someone to even come to our table, we then had to ask for menus and it just went down hill from there. No one ever seemed to be paying attention to us. They did offer a free appetizer, but then completely cleared our table after it was gone and we waited another 30 minutes for our meal to come. Then had to wait 20 minutes for silverware to eat the food. Not to mention, having to go to the bar and ask for water refills we'd asked for. It may have just been a very very bad day for all Innjoy staff, but it was my worst restaurant experience ever. My friend and I even kindly suggested to a table that came in after us and waited several minutes for menus that they leave. Even the free meal couldn't make up for how annoyed we were. read more

Innjoy - Fun night out - Bars Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I went to this bar for a concert, which was promoted as their Christmas event on facebook. There were supposed to be free refreshments 7-9, with entertainment starting at 9. When I got there shortly after 8, the staff told me there were no resfreshments available, because two "reps" weren't there/hadn't cleared anything. I ordered a shot, and waited. They never brought anything out, gave me a ton of excuses and claimed that they weren't going to give me anything. I started posting about it on their facebook, and they offered me a small dish of popcorn at 9:20(I saw people eating the pizza that was supposed to be available when I walked in and they immediately stopped serving it). They offered me a beer about seven minutes after that, because I didn't touch the popcorn. At 9:45, they brought out a dry, flat 8" pizza that was pathetic to even consider as compensation. I asked to speak to a manager at about 10, and they sent a woman who didn't seem to be very sure of anything to talk to me. She said they were short staffed, that only one person was in the kitchen. They served two people before she talked to me within 5 minutes of their order. Soon after another guy( pictured, supposed owner ) came to talk to me and told me I was out of luck and that the employees "paid for the pizza and beer out of their paychecks". That's lunacy. Another man, bald, is supposed to be an owner( also pictured ); he soon came forward with a bouncer and claimed I was threatening them, and they attempted to physically force me out of the store. The live entertainment was three dolled up girls on stage lip syncing to a few hits and dancing to a song or two, then another friend of the establishment played garageband remixes of rap for 20 minutes. Everyone involved seems to be pretty closely linked. They're all friends on facebook, and promote each other pretty often. The first guy pictured followed me outside after I told them I was calling the police, and called his friend and claimed I was "intoxicated and confrontational" after I had already gotten in touch with a 911 operator. These people are bottom feeding sharks in the entertainment industry and I wouldn't trust them with a penny of my money. If anyone has complaints about this place, please contact me. I plan on filing a class action lawsuit because this doesn't feel like the first time this has occurred. read more

I can work with this joint. I'd say this is a good 11pm and later place. Rare do I make the trip to Wicker Park, but I came here for a birthday party. The DJ went all retro, which was a nice twist (I remember a phase about a decade ago when every bar went retro crazy) and the patrons seemed to really enjoy it. Drinks weren't terribly over priced like on Clark Street, and it was a good ratio of girls to guys, in their favor or 50-50 at worse. Only food I ate was the pizza, and it was solid. Living in Lakeview, admittedly this won't be in my rotation in the near future. For a bar in another zip code to get me fully on board, it has to be a Game-Changer. This place isn't that, but I could see a quarterly or bi-annual visit. Come after a few cocktails and dinner elsewhere. All those 80s tunes will get you out there on a packed dance floor. Stopped in here on an early Sunday evening, early for a reservation kitty-corner from here at Folklore. I also needed a place to pull out my laptop and charge my cellphone, as these first-world problems evolve. I only had a Jack on the rocks, which isn't a tough poor. But the witty, gorgeous, Persian-Irish bartender was a joy to chat with for a while, rather than moping about the New York Times stories I was reading on my phone. Turns out that it was the calm before the storm of a Bears game. I'm not sure if I can predict another quiet night with Jack and Ms. Persian-Irish, but if I could, I'd go out of my way to hang out for a while. And be Innjoy once more. read more

This place is best enjoyed when its empty. I actually truly kinda seriously dislike this joint when its filled up on the weekend. The regulars are cool. The staff is fun. But I'd rather gauge my eyes out with a a rusty spoon than spend a Saturday night here (which I have been forced to do recently). The food is great though. I love their food. Big thanks to InnJoy for providing the exact atmosphere needed to ignite a little flame of fun for my friend's bachelorette party. The night started out a little slow at another location but once we hit InnJoy the party got started - and quick. The music was great, people were fun and drinks were flowing. If you are into old school 80s, this is the place to be for all of your favorites that anyone (well anyone in their 30s) can dance along to and remember the good 'ole days. It's like one big dance party...everyone is in a good mood and having a great time. Special thanks to Jackie and Art for helping to make this night a memorable one for our bachelorette group. I went on a Wednesday. It's not too far from where I live. The weather is getting nicer, which means that you can dine outside if you like. I love places like this. Food is reasonably priced and it's a good menu. I had the Black and Blue Burger - 1/2 Lb. of Hand Packed 100% Lean Seasoned Beef Blackened with Melted Blue Cheese. Served on a Toasted Bun. Only $10.95! (Served with Home chips and a Pickle. Add $1 to Substitute Pomme Frites and $1.50 for Cajun Waffle Fries. Lettuce, Tomato and Onion By Request.) I also ordered a pitcher of beer (Miller Lite or PBR) only $5. I've been to InnJoy a few times over the last several years, but nothing has been particularly memorable. This week's visit, however, definitely convinced me not to return. It was a Tuesday night, and the place wasn't super crowded. Sat at the bar, and despite three people behind the bar (at least one of whom I assume was a manager) and several wait staff, we spent more time waiting for assistance than actually eating/drinking. We sat with empty beer glasses and in front of untouched food (because it wasn't what we ordered) until finally flagging down one of the bartenders after she finished her conversation. In hindsight, it was 4/20, so perhaps the behavior can be chalked up to high laziness, but regardless, I'm over it and won't be back. read more

I dont know if it was me but the bathrooms in this nicely decorated bar were WAY WAY below par. They looked like the bathrooms of a late night bar at 4am on a saturday night, and it was a WEDNESDAY!!!!!!! We went here for an after dinner drink with some co-workers. Innjoy was an easy place to find a Cavs game to watch. With the dollar cheap ass beer pick and decent food, this place convinced me to come back two more times. I love the open front to Division street on nice days, especially when 80's nights kicks in and the place fills up with hipsters. Great place on my list! read more

The tinnitus-inducing noise levels really ruin the experience. Carrying on a conversation by yelling is impossible, let alone talking. You can essentially do two things here: drink or dance--and neither is all that easy. Getting a drink requires pushing your way to the bar and using some form of crude sign language to get a beer. Dancing usually consists of just bumping back and forth into strangers. The 80's and 70's playlist can be solid on some nights, but obscure songs tend to kill the mood. I have had good times here, but only when I'm dead drunk and already have a girl to dance with. The basement bar is better, in my opinion, but is not always open. My suggestion: If you must go, bring ear plugs. And don't expect to do anything but dance. read more

I absolutley love this place! My birthday was on Saturday and I originally had a different bar in mind.. Ended up that the intial bar was way to small. I called Innjoy 2 days before my party, in a panic, and they were extremely accomodating and so nice! They serioulsy gave me the VIP treatment! The moment I got to the bar they let my whole party in. As well as guests that came later. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday bar! They really helped make my birthday a blast! It is the perfect place if you want to dance, get rowdy and flat out just have the best time! Between their great service and fabulous music, you really can't go wrong! Love this place! Went there about a month ago for some dancing and a good time and it did not disappoint! It was crowded for a Saturday but not so crowded you couldn't move. If I could give Innjoy less than one star, I would. We were with a group of 10, so we offered the bouncer $20 to make sure everyone got in together, even though there is no cover charge at Innjoy. The bouncer laughed in our face and said "it would take a lot more than $20 to make that happen." We understood, as we were a big group, and waited in line for 45 minutes. Once it was our turn, 2 of the 10 were allowed in. We were fine with this and started walking into the bar. As the 2 were walking in, he demanded the money. We told him no, as we had waited in line like everyone else and we were not going in with our entire party. This did not sit well with the bouncer, and he refused to let the remaining 8 into the bar. This bouncer was on a power trip and it's unfortunate to see such a fun bar ruined by one bad employee. read more

Inn joy - I did not particularly enjoy, Inn joy! Get it? Ha! Funny funny, I know. We had dinner across the street at Crust and decided afterward to try somewhere new. We had seen Inn joy written up a few times in various places and have noted their daily specials, but never actually tried it out. We entered the place around 12:45am. The small bouncer was slightly entertaining... He gave my enormous boyfriend a hard time which seemed ironic and funny at the time. In reality, that poor little man was very close to being injured something serious. Once inside we threw some elbows and made our way to the bar - no easy feat. I was winded once my butt it the barstool. Once perched at the bar we were free to people watch... but rather, we chose to Jackass watch... literally. The unedited version of Jackass 2 was playing on the TV immediately above up... I found it odd initially, but as I realized how lame the people watching was, I choose to join those around me and affix my sadistic eyes to the TV. I danced a little bit... but overall, watching Steve-O take a beer enema won me over. That charmer. This place was very odd. NO ONE DANCED. Even the people who were NOT watching Jackass... The DJ was great, but everyone was too cool for dancing apparently... perhaps they were all having great conversations. Doubtful, it was pretty loud. Anyway, the crowd was pretty lame, it could have been a bad night. While I would probably give this place another shot, I am temped to advise you to avoid this place and try somewhere else on the Division/Damen strip. read more

Came to Innjoy for the first time last night, and had a great time! The music was so fun to dance too, and I'm usually not a huge fan of the dance party bar. I wish the music they played would matchup to the music videos they played, but I guess that would technically be impossible because of the live DJ. I live walking distance and am sure to be back. Our group had a great time and I'm sure to come back! There was one MAJOR infraction which I thought about deducting yet another star for, and that was when I closed my bar tab for the night there were about $15 of extra drinks on my tab, thankfully I realized this because I had only gotten a couple of the $4 special beer and knew right away that the tab was wrong. Weather or not the bartenders were trying to pull a fast one on me I'm not sure, but it definitely made me question this place. Innjoy was intended on being a space for a surprise birthday party. After spending 2 weeks going back and forth with the event planner. We had settled on Saturday evening at 9:00 PM at the cost of $50.00. Because it was supposed to be a surprise birthday party, I thought it would good to ensure quick entry for friends. This included fast track entry for friends and to reserve two table tops. I came to find out through friends who got there that no list with the party name was presented nor were any tables reserved. Because no list existed, friends who arrived later (around 10:30) had to wait 30 + minutes in line. All in all the party still went on and we had a good time. We are all mid-30 somethings and so the scene itself was a bit of a stretch. Good 80's music selection, although it seemed like they only had 3 or 4 CD's worth of Prince, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Fine Young Cannibals. Great artists to loop through but maybe was hoping for more. Also, the space was very tight, your proverbial "nuts to butts" type of scene. 1 star for 80's music and another star for decent prices on drinks. read more

The thought of a crowded bar on a Saturday night usually gives me the chills...but I was pleasantly surprised by Inn Joy and I agree with some of the other compliments here. I thought the service was extremely accomodating. We'd arrived from the Taste of Randolph and one of my friends was feeling ill from the heat. Our server didn't just bring water-- she brought a pitcher and the staff refilled it more than once! We were a group of 4 that turned into a group of 7 or 8. We added chairs to the table and generally blocked one server's route to other tables. She was very nice about it-- hard to do when you're in a hurry and drunk people are everywhere. Ditto to someone who mentioned Division Street's wide sidewalks. Although we were inside, we were near the window and the vibe outside typified what summer is all about. Terrific people-watching as well. The pizza. Ok, so I only had a few bites of a margherita slice, but it was mighty tasty.... The reason it's 3 stars and not 4 was the music. We actually enjoyed ourselves (pun intended) with the fun 80s music and impromptu dance parties that seemed to spring up everywhere, but all in my group agreed that it was RIDICULOUSLY LOUD. I understand the patio folk also want to hear "Get into the Groove" and the like, but too bad. I missed out on some flirting as a result...I'm a conversation girl and I'm not a fan of shouting. I love innjoy. Love the concept, setup, and being. Been there several tkmes b4 I went there today at 920pm. Three of us wrote down songs on the request clipboard, none of them were ridic (specifics were jurassic 5, billy joel, and they might be giants None of them played over three hrs. It wasnt particularly busy, nor was i anything but polite to the dj. I left them my number, awaiting a call as to why they wouldnt play a request. During which time they were begging for requests. If you love 80s and early 90s music, this is the spot for you. Personally, I wanted to douse myself in gasoline and jump into a bonfire. Not the scene I was looking for. The only time I felt any sense of serenity was when a remix of Jay-Z's '99 Problems' came on. The layout is nice for a small bar. People super friendly. The downstairs was quieter and more intimate. DJ was super friendly and open to taking song requests and giving shout outs (He gave my friend a shout out for his birthday). Clearly the management at Inn Joy does not read these reviews because the service is still slooooow as hellllllllll. And by service, I mean this one chick, because I've had her almost every time I've gone there. She's really cute and sweet, but she needs to pick up the pace. She also gives me an awkward, blank stare every time I say something, like it takes her an extra 3 seconds to process what I said, which is fine, but don't stare at me like you're about to stab me in the eye with your pen. Wierrrrrd. Besides the slow mediocre service and the somewhat sick bathroom (it's dark and dingy, and doesn't appear that clean), the food is pretty good. I've had the following: -chicken club sandwich--my fav. Toasted sourdough bread, grilled chicken, tomato, avocado, bacon, etc. It was a special forever, but the last time I went, the broad said they don't serve it anymore. Um, what? It's chicken, bread and some other crap...how hard is that to throw together? -fish sandwich--wasn't too bad. It was fried Cod or something on Ciabatta bread with this tatar sauce/mayo spread. -wings--also pretty good -spicy waffle fries--yes! Get those! They usually serve pomme frites, which are like skinny, little french fries with salt, pepper, and parsley. I enjoyed them. -turkey burger--I've had better -onion rings--huge, sweet and delicious. -Bloody marys!!!--Bloody goodness. Not too spicy; good seasoning; served with olives and fresh celery stalk--my fav. On Sunday's the have football BLARING, which kind of annoys me, but during the rest of the week the music is good. Its a good place to hang. They used to have karaoke every sunday, now its only once a month which sucks. I went for my birthday and had lots of fun singing with friends to Queen and the Scissor sisters. And you can get the courage since everyone else is pretty bad and drunk too. This is a great stretch of fun bars and restaurants with plenty of outdoor seating. The super friendly staff makes this place stand out. (We spilled some of our pitcher of beer and they quickly came to clean it up even though I offered to do it myself and they didn't even glare at us.) The $5 pitchers on Tuesday nights ain't bad either, even if you spill a little of it. Only complaints are the music was too loud to carry on a conversation with my gal pal in the bar and the too many tv's were distracting. The outside sidewalk area was great though. The chairs and tables reminded me of a cafe in Madrid I visited often while visiting there in college. But again, I was really pleased with the service. Eh. I mean, I guess it's what you expect from the outside. It doesn't look like a good place for food, and my assumption proved correct. I had the Avocado burger which has cheese, pico de gallo, and (surprise) avocado. The avocado was hard though. Aka not fully ripe. Cozy and cute, Innjoy was a good pick on how to spend a Sunday night. They offered a good beer special to end the weekend ($2.75 Bud/Bud Lite). My friend and I split the wings(half Jamaican jerk/half buffalo). Tasty and not too spicy! Try the waffle fries, though. That was my personal highlight of the meal. Although the fries are $6, they give you this HUGE mound that's good enough to feed at least 4 people. We were stuffed by the end of the meal - all for a total of $24! Service was friendly and pretty quick. There's tons of tv's and a fireplace in the back, I think. The cushion-y chairs make this a good place to chill out and detox after a long weekend. read more

I'd take this over 50/50 any day of the week. We were fortunate enough to find some seats at the bar on a Sat night. The bartender was attentive, despite the crowd - remembered what I was drinking. The really disturbing S&M "artwork" is thankfully gone and has been replaced by other weird, less offensive pieces of art. The music on Saturdays can't be beat, and who doesn't LOVE to watch "Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo" while sipping on a drink?? The place was a veritable sausage fest, which I appreciated :) The downside of the night was that by 12:30, the bouncer admitted way too many people. I would have been miserable anywhere other than in my seat at the bar. It took way too long to extract ourselves from the bar bcs of the crowd. I went there recently with my girlfriend to watch the Patriots game. Though some of their tv's are sub-par, they do show every game so there's no issue in seeing your team play on Sunday- - they're just mostly not in HD' The quality of food is probably 4 stars but the "gouging" for sodas/coffee brings this place down to 3 stars. I happened to be a little hungover and didn't want to drink alcohol, so I opted for a soda. That would be $3 if you're counting. Also, we substituted fries for chips on the delicious turkey burger, and that amounted to an extra $2, which was also never mentioned by our waitress. You can't just throw in fries with a burger?? Anyway, we'll go back but not for sodas and coffee ($2.50). The total for the two of us was $40 including tip and NO alcohol. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for lunch about a month ago because we wanted to try a new place around the neighborhood to grab some drinks and food. We were the only people in the place, so we were very confused when our service was incredibly slow and our server got our orders wrong. I don't think the place is really known for its food since it is basically a dive, but when she did bring it back out the food was cold and our fries were rock hard, so we left and took our services elsewhere. However, I can't say that I've been here at nighttime, which is what it is known for seeing as it is a bar. I might stop in for a drink one night just to check it out seeing as it is so close to my apartment. They had some cool art work on the walls from what I remember, so kudos for that! read more

A-OK is about the best way to describe Innjoy. It's...a decent neighborhood joint, a good place to cut loose when you wanna cut loose, but unless you've got a reason to go to that stretch of Division anyways, it's not a destination bar, and that's totally fine. Chicago needs more bars that just...exist, that don't aspire to be something more than they are, where you can have a couple of beers on a random night without breaking the bank or feeling like you're surrounded by River North rejects. read more
