What great food! The lady bug roll is an absolute must here! Also recommend getting some extra eel sauce to dip the gyoza in because that combination is amazing. Great shrimp and rice! Would honestly recommend getting it with double rice and no veggies though because the zucchini are very undercooked and crunchy. Just depends on your preference though.

    Chicken lunch

Awesome Chicken Hibachi lunch. The food was awesome and fresh. It's feels great to be able to locate the best Japanese/Hibachi restaurants in Athens and in glad to have this one. It was Sunday afternoon and surprisingly it wasn't as busy as I thought. I was able to get my food to go without a problem and it was worth the trip here. I can't wait to bring friends here on the next visit. I know they'll love this restaurant. :)

Ordered at 18:34 on Wednesday... food came out at 19:04... $29 for 3 sushi rolls and sweet tea... and the staff needs a tip. Idk what I was expecting from a strip mall "sushi" place, but this is not worth your time or money, trust me.

    Side salad

Spent $3.25 on a side salad. All I got was some chopped up romaine lettuce. Could've at least had some carrots or something. After eating I found a bug in the salad.

Hands down my favorite sushi in town. You get a lot of food for your money here. Compared to RuSans or Utage, the sushi just tastes more fresh and you get more of it. The only thing is I wish there was another location on the west side of Athens. But I am still willing to make the trek to east side just for the sushi. Don't be fooled by the similar name. This is nothing like the Inoko on Alps or the Inoko Express off Atlanta Highway next to Ingles. I've had lackluster experiences at those locations. But Sushi Express is great! Besides sushi, you can get your typical hibachi rice bowls. They aren't as great as Choo Choos, and the yellow sauce isn't as good, but they are still delicious. You get a discount for using cash, but Yelp does offer cash back if you pay with a linked card, so it kinda evens out. I do feel like quality has diminished a bit since my last visit, but it may just be a one-off thing. If you dine in, the order will be brought to your table, but everything else is self-serve. Takeout and delivery options are available through Bulldawg and Cosmic. Staff is always friendly. The place is always clean. I want to give 5 stars but today's meal wasn't quite as good as I remembered when the Japanese sushi makers would greet you immediately upon entering. Next time I go there, I'll reassess and return the star that I think they can certainly win back.

Fried Calamari on a weird bed of lettuce

I generally like this place. Its relatively cheap for a decent amount of food. However, I made the mistake of getting the calamari for $6.95. I got probably around ~13 pieces. I've been told that this is the "normal" amount to get. They also put it on a bed of lettuce which was warm due to the heat of the calamari which wasn't super appetizing. It just kind of feels like a rip-off, especially when you know the bed of lettuce is take make the plate/box look more full. Everything else it's at least decent, but this was definitely kind of depressing to receive. Try anything else, just avoid the calamari.

This place has decent quality food for an amazing price. Expect the same quality in par with Ru Sans---except cheaper prices. I highly suggest anyone game for a sushi bargain to go here. The lunch special is around $8, and you get to choose 2 sushi rolls, an entree, salad, and drink. A serving of rice is $1 extra for steamed or fried rice. Regardless of what you order you get unlimited "refills" of miso or onion soup. There's nothing in the soup except broth, but you can add pieces of fried onion in it. My favorite roll was the raging bull dog. Pieces of tuna and shrimp wrapped up in crunchy pieces and masago. The scallop and masago maki roll is also awesome. Now that I live near here, I don't see why this can't be a frequent lunch spot :)

After taking my first bite my initial thought was 'I will never order this again". I got the pork…read morebelly rice bowl and I absolutely and fully regret eating it. I feel gross and it was such a let down. If y'all know me, you know I'm big on being greeted within the first few seconds of walking into an establishment. The gal didn't say anything to me, just stood at the register waiting for me to order. I asked her what she would recommended between the pork belly bowl or the curry chicken noodle soup and she just said it just depends on if I wanted noodles or rice.. that should Have been my first clue. I hate leaving bad reviews... but this is not my first visit here. The first time I ordered the dumplings with chili sauce, and the older lady was super sweet and it was super delicious. My only qualms were how FILTHY the trash can was and how empty the place was... I was the only customer. It was the same this go around too... no customers, and the trash can was STILL FILTHY!! (And I know they're not busy enough to not get up off their butts and clean!!!) I digress.... The reason I feel grossed out is because the fried egg was barely fried, and there was no seasoning or pizazz to it at all... just a sunny side up on rice and pork belly. The pork belly itself was not fresh. It must have been cooked either earlier in the day or a few days before. I know this because of how the fat in the pork belly tasted. It wasn't cooked well either... there was no crisp to the top part whatsoever and the fatty part.... Well that was the grossest part. It was that gummy slimy texture and that is anything but pleasant. I'm really hoping this place turns itself around.. because I do dig the vibe, but they need to get un lazy and start caring a little more. And I'm not seeing their vision... are they a donut shop.... Hot dog shop... or Asian food...??? I think they would attract more business with a more definitive theme. Like I said, I hate leaving poor reviews, but I'm doing so in hopes they see it. (Oh ya, because calling with a critique is out of the question.... They don't answer their phone!! Tried calling to put in my order). Come Mochinut, do better!!! PLEASE!!!

Indonesian fare is definitely not what I was thinking about today, but after living in Atlanta and…read moreknowing there are a lot of culinary choices, I decided to run by after seeing a new addition on the Mochinut Athens Menu -- they have Indonesian curry chicken on the menu, along with the Indonesian version of hainanese soy-sauce chicken! I was not disappointed except that Chef V said she had to stop doing the Indonese chicken (look it up) and make everything white meat for the locals in Athens. I hope that changes. The soy ginger sauce was excellent. The curry chicken is a definite try for those who would like to sample something different and hot and tasty! In short: Try the spicy dumplings, the curry chicken and the soy sauce chicken dishes here and maybe have a nice pandam mochi donut at the end!
