They always had a banner about a lunch special for around $9, and you're able to add a drink or a side salad for $1.75. I got the lunch special to go, with teriyaki chicken, fried rice, veggies, and a side salad with yellow sauce and spicy mayo, and ginger dressing. The lunch special comes with an egg roll as well! The portions are appropriate for lunch, and the wait wasn't long either. I am slightly disappointed that they only gave me about 8 pieces of chicken, but still tasted amazing! The rice, however, was just rice and soy sauce and that's not how I usually prefer it, so I would just recommend getting white rice instead. Salad was ok, it wasn't fresh, and some pieces of lettuce were wilted. Overall, I'm not sure if I would come back for hibachi, but maybe try to sushi next time. read more

What great food! The lady bug roll is an absolute must here! Also recommend getting some extra eel sauce to dip the gyoza in because that combination is amazing. Great shrimp and rice! This place has been an Athens mainstay for many years. We don't love cabbage, but upgrading to the Ultimate Veggies means more broccoli, carrots, and mushrooms. Well worth the small up charge. Hands down my favorite sushi in town. You get a lot of food for your money here. Compared to RuSans or Utage, the sushi just tastes more fresh and you get more of it. The only thing is I wish there was another location on the west side of Athens. But I am still willing to make the trek to east side just for the sushi. Don't be fooled by the similar name. This is nothing like the Inoko on Alps or the Inoko Express off Atlanta Highway next to Ingles. I've had lackluster experiences at those locations. But Sushi Express is great! Besides sushi, you can get your typical hibachi rice bowls. They aren't as great as Choo Choos, and the yellow sauce isn't as good, but they are still delicious. You get a discount for using cash, but Yelp does offer cash back if you pay with a linked card, so it kinda evens out. I do feel like quality has diminished a bit since my last visit, but it may just be a one-off thing. If you dine in, the order will be brought to your table, but everything else is self-serve. Takeout and delivery options are available through Bulldawg and Cosmic. Staff is always friendly. The place is always clean. I want to give 5 stars but today's meal wasn't quite as good as I remembered when the Japanese sushi makers would greet you immediately upon entering. Next time I go there, I'll reassess and return the star that I think they can certainly win back. read more

This place is great!! I've been there at least 3 times in the past 3 months. I get the fried rice and veggies meal. It comes with a salad and they have a delicious brothy soup at the drink station. Each time I've been there the service is fast, friendly and very helpful. The portions are large and the price is very reasonable. You go to a counter to order and there's a nice table area. I generally like this place. Its relatively cheap for a decent amount of food. However, I made the mistake of getting the calamari for $6.95. I got probably around ~13 pieces. I've been told that this is the "normal" amount to get. They also put it on a bed of lettuce which was warm due to the heat of the calamari which wasn't super appetizing. It just kind of feels like a rip-off, especially when you know the bed of lettuce is take make the plate/box look more full. Everything else it's at least decent, but this was definitely kind of depressing to receive. Try anything else, just avoid the calamari. read more

This place has decent quality food for an amazing price. Expect the same quality in par with Ru Sans---except cheaper prices. I highly suggest anyone game for a sushi bargain to go here. The lunch special is around $8, and you get to choose 2 sushi rolls, an entree, salad, and drink. A serving of rice is $1 extra for steamed or fried rice. Regardless of what you order you get unlimited "refills" of miso or onion soup. There's nothing in the soup except broth, but you can add pieces of fried onion in it. My favorite roll was the raging bull dog. Pieces of tuna and shrimp wrapped up in crunchy pieces and masago. The scallop and masago maki roll is also awesome. Now that I live near here, I don't see why this can't be a frequent lunch spot :) read more

The soups (miso and onion) are located near the drinks so you can get as much as you want. The food quality (to me) is like any other quicky Japenese place. Given that they are the "sushi express" version of Inoko family restaurants, my expectations weren't that high, but this location rocked me! Their staff is friendly and welcoming, they all wore a smile, and they were all on the same level of communication with both themselves and the customers. Which makes the dinner rush go smoothly and customers happy! We started with our eel roll, which is a basic roll anywhere you go, but they didn't disappoint. Even through their rush, their food is still good quality. Then we had the udon noodle soup. Which came out perfectly. Flavor was on point and noodles were cooked perfectly. Again, even with their dinner rush, the food is still good quality. Which says a lot. Most places try to imitate the Japanese flavoring for the udon noodle soup and also the eel roll, but you can taste that it's off. But here at Inoko Sushi Express, you get the real deal. Finally decided to gave this place a try and order takeout, since it's right down the street from me. I should have known from 'Express' in the name not to try it. The reviews are spot on, it's cheap and the food reflects. In this case though I actually think their prices should be less due to the lack of food quality, amounts and presentation. We tried 3 different rolls and ordered some sushi a la carte since they don't offer combinations. The fish was minimal and low grade. The pieces of eel on the roll were some of the smallest I've seen and one still had a small bone in it, which I didn't realize until I was chewing. I wasn't expecting a lot from a place that calls itself "Sushi Express." The snob in me was a little appalled. But seriously? The sushi here is NOT BAD. You get free onion soup, too, that's pretty good, and I could see myself filling up on a bowl of the onion soup and just one maki roll. The rolls are so cheap that means that you could, conceivably, do lunch or dinner for $3-$5. CHEAP! Like, Kraft Dinner cheap but cheaper! I'm going to try this place again tonight for the second time. The first and only time I've been here, I got a dynamite roll, a yum yum roll, and the aforementioned onion soup. I could not finish all of my food. I gotta warn you though -- the yum yum roll was weird. I'm used to "fried" rolls being dipped in tempura and fried. This was dipped in... not tempura, but something breadcrumb-esque. Yeah, a little weird. Tasted okay, but not what I was expecting. I will stay away from the fried rolls from now on. Also, the place is almost fast-food-style. You walk in, write down what you want, give your order to the cashier, pay, and then sit down and wait for your food to be brought to you. Thus the "express" name. Seriously, the sushi isn't the highest quality I've ever had (thus the three-star rating), but it is AWESOME for the price. And it's on the eastside. I was excited to see soup tureens that you can serve yourself, but was disappointed in the actual soup itself. It tastes like somebody put a few MSG-filled bullion cubes into boiling water. It is too salty and otherwise tasteless. Hardly any vegetarian options on the menu at all. I ended up ordering vegetable tempura when I actually wanted sushi because there wasn't anything on the menu for me. What I did get was incredibly greasy and almost inedible. I'm not much of a sushi or seafood person, so I gave one of the chicken bowls, the Goma Bowl, specifically, a try. My food came out quickly, though it was a very large portion, even for me, and I eat quite a bit. The free, self-serve soup is an awesome bonus too! I think that, and the slightly lower prices, might have tipped me in favor of Inoko over Choo Choo down the street. Inoko Sushi Express has become one of my favorites in town after a handful of repeat visits. For years I was a huge fan of Choo Choo's, and don't get me wrong, I still am. But I can get basically the same thing, plus more, for about the same price, at Inoko, and I like that! I almost always get one of the entrees which come with rice, vegetables, soup, and a salad. Plenty of food alone! But they have some good appetizers too. I've had several of their sushi rolls and all have been great, definitely on par with, say, Ru Sans, especially considering the price. I almost always go here with a coupon, since they're so easy to find, whether it's buy one get one free or half off entrees, or a free appetizer. The point is, we always end up with more food than we can eat for a super low price. And now that they're open late, they definitely compete for my business with Choo Choo's! I also like being greeted in Japanese when you walk in the door -- at least, I assume that's what they're saying ;-) read more

I love inoko!! It is my favorite hibachi place on the eastside and maybe in Athens. My friends and I LOVE the sushi (especially the spicy bulldog roll) and the fried rice meals are always good too. They did recently go up in pricing which is the only reason they are getting a 4 today (I totally understand why they needed to it just stinks) I honestly eat here like twice a week and would totally recommend to anyone!! read more
