This place opens at 5, we got there around 5:20 on a Sunday evening and it was nearly empty. I'm not from around here and that made me nervous, but by the end of the meal it was 90% + full. Service was fantastic, our server was friendly and offered another preparation for the fish of the day from a different choice in the menu. I had the daily special, Jamaican Jerk Red Snapper over rice with grilled pineapple, pickled red onion and edamame. The grilled pineapple perfectly complimented the blackened fish, jerk spice prepared in that way can land on a the salty side. The pineapple cut the saltiness and really worked when eaten together. The chef clearly understands a layered flavor approach to a dish, this was perfect. My dad had a parm crusted grouper over risotto. Each element was prepared perfectly. The minor issue here was that food took a bit longer to arrive than what I'm used to, but I enjoyed chatting with my dad on the outdoor patio. Restaurant was clean and the server (Allison) was a complete professional, clearly understanding all aspects of dishes they serve. Dessert was a peach cheesecake with hot honey drizzle. It was really really good and worth it! Would absolutely eat here again and this place is a better choice than some downtown Athens offers that have jumped the shark in my opinion. read more

This place is a gem! Was looking for a nice place for fish this evening and came across Chuck's Fish. Didn't know anything about it - but the menu posted on Yelp looked promising. It was the right choice! Started with the Kimchi Brussel Sprouts. All I can say is Wow! They were amazing - crunchy, sweet, savory, and BACON! A real treat! For entrees, we couldn't decide on the Parmesan Crusted Grouper or the Grouper Picante - so we ordered both. Parmesan crusted grouper came with asparagus and grits while the Picante grouper came with a potato cake, micro greens, and asparagus. Both were cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. We both thought that the picante grouper was just slightly better on flavor - but both are winners. These were market price fish - which each costing about $42-44. Service was amazing. Our servers (Julio and his trainee) were terrific and were patient and answered all of our questions. Overall - this is a definite recommendation if you are looking for seafood in Athens. Fish is fresh, sourced from Destin, FL and the sushi looked amazing (we didn't have it but other tables did). So - give it a try. Only negative is some sort of automatic 3% "operational fee" that they add to the bill. Kind of ridiculous. Please stop it. Enjoy! read more

This was my first time visiting Chuck's Fish and I was not disappointed. We came on a Friday and there was a wait, but we were able to grab some seats at the bar within 15 minutes. The sever immediately came to wipe down our area and we ordered some drinks. I ordered the Guava Sour since I prefer gin drinks, and my friend ordered the espresso martini. I got the guava sour, soft-shell crab roll, and tuna poke. Honestly my hopes were high because this is an athens classic but I was a bit disappointed. The drink was fabulous - perfect balance between sweet and tart! I was excited to try the sushi but the soft-shell crab roll was a bit too salty and I wish there were some other flavors. I really enjoyed the poke until I found a small piece of steel in it. Unsure of what it was. The service was great but this is not the place you want to be at if you're starving. What is wrong with these people that leave good reviews! I am from Santa Monica California. Where there's a huge selection of seafood from the Pacific Ocean. What is considered a fish place? I thought when we came here there would be more variety of fish to choose from. But when we got to Chuck's the place was empty and dirty not a good sign for a fish place. They only had two fishes to pick from swordfish and grouper. This doesn't qualify as a seafood place it's more of a difunctional so-called restaurant. Surface is horrible and place has zero ambience. Cracker Barrel has more ambience than Chucks. Warning do not go here, do not waste your money. They overcharge for crappy food and to top it off they charge you operation fee?? We were told it was to help the restaurant stay open?? When you pay a $40 a plate what the heck isn't that enough? It's just a dirty tourist place!! Please do not bother going here! But be prepared to wait and wait a long time with poor estimations by the front desk on the wait times. We've tried this place multiple times all with the same result, and what was supposed to be a 2hr wait last night turned into 3hrs throwing our plans for the rest of the evening off. Would have gone somewhere else, but waiting killed our options for elsewhere. It's great, but no place is worth 3hr waits...sadly not likely waiting for this place again. We had a wonderful first time experience at Chuck's. From the fresh drinks at the bar to an amazing service experience from Hannah, this was a night to remember. This location was a former Greyhound bus station (hence the drink name at the bar) that has been transformed into a trendy eatery. My favorite drink was called Semester Abroad. It was very unique and tasty. Thanks to new friends at the bar for the recommendation. We had the special shrimp, feta, and tomato special as an appetizer and it was nothing short of amazing. Very flavorful, with a great blend of flavors served over rice. We had 4 sushi roles and each was better than the next. Note - the spicy is flavorful and not overly hot or super spicy (coming from someone who doesn't do hot spicy foods). The highlight of our night was Hannah, our menu guide and bringer of fun. She was delightful. As foodies, we love being in the hands of someone who knows the menu really well and has a passion for the food she recommends. It is this care that ensured we had the right blend of experimental dining with tried and true favorites. We will be back to dine with her again. Not impressed. In fact, I was disappointed. My husband and I had dinner a week ago. Our tiny table was in the doorway between the indoor and outdoor space. There was constant traffic between the two spaces, so we did not get the relaxing dinner experience we expected. The table was too small to accommodate two people. Though my husband enjoyed his grouper, my snapper was subpar. It was dry and overcooked. It tasted like it had been cooked the day before. The chicken appetizer was ok for an Applebee's.
