By no means are the cookies here not tasty. They are OK. They have been better in both quality and pricing. The new recipe reminds me of well-baked, store-bought frozen cookie dough. This is not the original recipe or product. The original shop that was down the street and across Baltimore Avenue (on the main entrance side of the University of Maryland) was a gem. At some point when they relocated to the current location the cookie quality changed slightly while the prices increased. The prices are insane and especially for the smaller, standard-sized cookies! I was in the College Park area last Saturday and decided to try Insomia Cookies. The location is very congested, at least it was on Saturday night. There was hardly any place to park exceot for a "pay to park" lot within walking distance. I coughed up a little over $1 for about 30 minutes of parking. I was only in the store for about 15 minutes so I guess I over paid. Lol! The actual dessert shop is very small. I was hoping to "dine in", but there wasn't any place to sit. A family of 4 and another solo customer were occupying the only available seats. I placed my order to go which meant I had to drive home (25 min) to eat the cookies and ice cream. I ordered the deluxe Peanut Butter Cup cookies ice cream sandwich. The cookies were placed in a small bag and the ice cream was put in a small bowl. The ice cream barely survived the trip home, but I guess thats to be expected. By the time I was able to eat everything the ice cream was soft, but not totally melted. The dessert tasted ok, but I would have preferred to have eaten it at the shop. I chose not to eat it in my car because the car is brand new. No ice cream or cookie crumbs on the seat for me, thanks! Overall I felt like Insomnia is just "Okay". I think the pizookies at BJs are a lot better. I might try this place one more time but during daylight hours. It's not like it's ample seating inside, so I'm sure most people would take their cookies to-go, so using a mini pizza box to put cookies and ice cream in for take-out purposes is a disaster waiting to happen. Chocolate chunk cookies have never impressed me, but since I really wanted a chocolate chip cookie but they didn't offer just chocolate chip cookies, so I decided to throw caution to the wind and try them. Huge Mistake! The chocolate chunk cookies were extremely difficult to bite into. All those gigantic chunks made it a task to fully enjoy my cookiewich. Parking is not ideal right outside but there's plenty of parking close by around the other stores. There's bunch of different types of cookies there on the menu but there's few that are just regular and then "deluxe", which cost more but it's also more filling. So I didn't know there was a price difference so I got 3 to try. Though they ran out of red velvet, which was a bit disappointing. Still decided to get snickerdoodle, white chocolate macadamia, and smores. I liked white chocolate macadamia the best because it wasn't that sweet but had that roast taste. The smores was good too but it was a bit heavy to eat more than few bites. In any case, they were all pretty good and would definitely go back for more. The cookies are good and would love to try other flavors and the icecream cookie sandwich and other things on the menu.
