Small shop, mostly an order and to go place. Cookies were hot, soft, and fresh out the oven. I got all three of the vegan cookies offered: Vegan Birthday Cake, Vegan Chocolate Chunk, and the Vegan Double Chocolate Chunk. All of the cookies taste really good! My order was left outside the gate in Midtown, even though I provided the gate code and my phone number in the delivery instructions. This was not only inconvenient but also unsafe--anyone could have taken or tampered with it. Very disappointed with the lack of care in following instructions. read more

We came here on a whim! The service was stupendous! The gentleman working, no name tag, you d with black hair - was very kind and had our order taken, bagged and out the door within a minute! Wow! The cookies we ate before I could get a picture can you blame me?! They were so good! They were warm and just melted in your mouth! They offer milk and other drinks as well! Why the low reviews. Who doesn't love cookie and IceCream. This place was the bomb. Huge scoop of chocolate and peanut butter IceCream on top of a brownie. If you don't like this then I'm not sure what's up with you. You might literally need to check yourself. read more

Was in town taking my daughter to a concert. Had 5 hrs to kill. I wandered around the downtown district and found this gem. The cookies were amazing. They had run out of the ones we wanted but we were able to get some other choices. They were warm, delicious and soft. No complaints. Smells great when you walk in! Staff is friendly and helpful. It's my first time in here so I stumbled through my order. My cookie sales person let me know the chocolate chunk were cooking but would be fresh and ready in about 15 minutes. We we're in a hurry so I made another selection. My daughter is not a sugar cookie fan generally but she says they are the best! I opted for a couple of others to take home. She wouldn't get up from eating and doing nothing to greet us or tell us where the menus were or anything. Extremely rude and worst customer service I've ever had. I asked if there was any nuts in the brownie cookie and she said she probably not and said there was nuts in some. So rude and doesn't even know the cookies. There was no "sorry I wouldn't recommend". Not really any variety and cookies looked flat. read more

We entered through the back door not realizing this wasn't the front. But that was okay, because the sweet smell of buttery sweet goodness led the way to the front of the store. Not a huge selection but the selections are huge. 1 sandwich could be a meal. The ice cream is just ok but when sandwiched between 2 warm cookies it's pretty darn good. They have some outdoor seating which is good since the indoor seating is limited. I think this place is great for people who want cookies delivered at 1am. Small store, expensive cookies and ice cream. It was a hot Kansas City day and I needed some ice cream, stat! Checked Yelp and found out I was a block away. So I sashayed over to Insomnia. At first I thought it was closed, but then went up the steps and around the corner and just saw that it was empty of customers. Walked in and checked the meager selection of ice cream...maybe eight flavors. The employee (who seemed like he either just woke up or was heavily sedated) lethargically helped me. I got a cookie on top of my two small scoops and the whole thing set me back nine smackers. The ice cream was fine and the cookie was tasty, but very small for costing roughly $2. My wife loves Insomnia Cookies and I had never been so this became a nice day date for the two of us. Finding parking in this area was a pain and it took us a few trips around the block to finally get a spot. The store from and facility itself are small and cramped which makes socially distancing difficult but they've got stickers on the floor and the bakery was very assertive when customers would come in and instructed some people to please wait outside as there wasn't room to safely distance inside. We got deluxe six park with peanut butter cup, double chocolate chunk, and s'mores cookies. We did have a five minute wait for our box as some of them were fresh out the oven and needed to sit for a moment. No matter we waited outside and enjoyed the nice weather before getting our box and heading home. My wife broke into the box and took a few bites while I drove us home so I could enjoy them. The cookies are delicious and have the perfect amount of solid to soft ratio which is made even better with a nice glass of milk. I don't often eat sweets so it took me a while to eat one cookie but it was super tasty and I immediately wanted another one. One of the cookies tasted a bit dry to me but that happens. These cookies are amazing hot, good cold, and great if they're heated in the toaster with a nice glass of milk, or your favorite dairy substitute. I'm lucky they don't deliver as far north as I live or else these would show up at my house every night. read more

i rlly wanted to write a good review and came in with hope. the cookies are good. chocolate chip hits the spot. white macadamia nut is good too. least favorite was the sinkerdoodle, it came a little raw still which i don't mind too much in a chocolate chip cookie but in a sinkerdoole it just didn't taste good. we waited in line for about half an hour and the lady working the counter yelled at everyone to stop talking like 4 times in that half an hour. she said it was very difficult to hear; i could see how frustrating it could be but it wasn't like yelling loud just people having conversations. i think the cookies and food themselves are great the service not so much, she would stop randomly w our order walk back talk with an employee, come back and ask us to repeat it again. idk just an overall meh experience. the cookies did hit the craving though. read more

Staff is insanely rude. We asked if they had a restroom. She said what 3 times claiming to not understand our accent.l?! Then sharply said NO!. We asked for a 6 pack of cookies and asked where the flavors were. She gave us a dirty look and pointed. I told my husband let's just go somewhere else, and she said "Okay then, get out". We left and will never return to that location. Not to mention, the whole time this is going on, she was eating a cookie over the top of the open food case, crumbs falling into customer brownies. read more

Got there before 10:00 and the doors were locked. People that had orders to pick up couldn't get in. They came to the door to say they were running out of things and couldn't guarantee we would get what we wanted. The person was very rude. We were let in and got exactly what we wanted. This person should not be allowed to run a store. read more

Ordered 16 cookies and ice cream for delivery waited the estimated 1 hour delivery time before calling 3 times only to get hung up on 3 times. Ended up going to the store to pick up the cookies myself. They locked the doors 1 hour before posted closing time. Customer inline let us in. Staff wasn't even apologetic. Expect a refund for deliver and tip. Awful experience. read more

What a great guilty pleasure! They make cookies in house and have regular size and jumbo size cookies you can choose from. I went with the classic ice cream cookie sandwich. You can choose any flavor cookie and ice cream and they will put it together for you. I got the white chocolate macadamia and double chocolate chunk with vanilla ice cream. Came to this location 40 minutes after the opening time which was at noon. The woman working looked at us like we were crazy and said, "we aren't open." We said "oh, don't you open at 12?" And she said, "yes, but it'll be another 20 minutes". So we left and came back then proceeded to say that they couldn't do the veterans 6 pack because it was "only at participating locations" when the ad says nothing about that and I spoke with another KC location and they told me it was at every location. Overall she was extremely rude and not apologetic about wasting our time. I will say that if you have the choice the other location near Westport was very accommodating and had wonderful costumer service. read more

Delayed review from Jan 30, 2022: Came here almost around midnight after the Chiefs game (AFL championship) really wanted a pick me up. The doors were locked and although I tried knocking no response. Just as I was about to leave, the door opened and a sweet girl who worked there, called me in and instead of taking my order for two cookies, handed me like half a dozen. Insomnia cookies are really delicious!! This company specializes in delivering fresh baked and still warm cookies until 3 am. Warm cookies after midnight is a concept that never occurred to me ...but WOW!!! I bought six regular recipe cookies and spent $9.72. I thought that the price was a little steep but after tasting them I have no problem with the cost. When you visit the store they sell really cold milk to accompany your cookies. They also sell speciality cookies that are priced a little higher and have more ingredients. read more

We stopped by the River Market location last night, and one of the quickest ways to judge a place is simply to look around. There was a line of people waiting to get in and others lingering outside, happily working their way through whatever they had just ordered. That's usually a pretty good sign. A few years ago, Betty Rae's closed its shops, and there was real concern that the brand might disappear for good. Then Matt Shatto of Shatto Milk Company rode in on the proverbial white horse, revived the brand and began expanding it again. I clearly need a few more visits to work my way through the flavor options. When you first walk in, you'll see wooden blocks displaying flavors. Those are just some of the classics that are always available. The big menu behind the freezer cases is where the real decision-making begins. And if you can't decide, the staff is more than happy to let you sample your way through the case. As someone who considers chocolate chip cookies and cookie dough their own food groups, I went with the Cookie Dough. What stood out most was the texture. It was incredibly rich, dense and creamy, almost closer to frozen custard than traditional ice cream. My niece, who is a far more experienced Betty Rae's customer, swears by the Lavender and Caramel combination. I'm not sure I would have ever put those two together, which is probably another reason I need to go back. And Betty Rae's is about more than what's in the cup. The River Market shop has a comfortable, funky personality that fits the neighborhood perfectly. The servers were exceptionally friendly, and even the music is part of the experience. You can find their playlist on Spotify. Great ice cream. Fun place. Terrific people. And apparently, I have a lot more flavors to try.

All are great (not crazy about the birthday cake one my kiddo always gets), the Berry Sorbet and Lemon Basil are standouts on a hot day. Their portions are generous, prices are very fair, the outdoor seating is great, and it's a very clean shop. Oh, and I recently discovered that macarons are delicious, and theirs are some of the best around. They're around $2.50 a pop and well worth it. I cannot recommend this place enough for gelato, macarons, and of course chocolate if that's your thing. Want to skip lines for ice cream (well, gelato) this summer and still support local? I really love pretzel bites and these were not bad but also not what would make my list of great. You get a cup with a dip of your choice for $4.50 (or close). I also got a peanut butter cookie with Nutella on top. It was cold when I got it. It was good but I learned it is much better when it's warm because it sat in the car for a bit on a warm day. It was perfect and yummy. There's a large selection of cookie combos along with other sweets. There's sever more I want to try. You can also buy a by a half dozen or dozen. While waiting for my order, I did learn I can try getting an unsweetened tea as a base and then add what l life like and it can be made half sweet.
