I do find that there is limited seating inside, but there is a table outside for overflow. We had a great time stopping in for a treat after reading about the shop in the Star. The variety is impressive!! There are over 40 types of popsicles and a dozen kinds of scoop-able ice cream/sorbets. The strawberry was just perfect - like a grown up sno-cone and the birthday cake my date got was also awesome. We also tried the strawberry cheesecake, the lime, the pine nut and the pineapple flavors. The shop has a few seats inside and tables outside. I love how many choices are here. There is something for everyone. My son got the birthday cake on a sugar cone. I got the pistachio on a waffle cone (my litmus test at a new ice cream shop). Well - my mind was completely blown! This is probably the greatest Guava thing I've ever eaten in my life! And I order a lot of Guava sh** so that's quite a compliment! Why is it so good? It has so many enormous generous delicious succulent ripe juicy chunks of guava in it. Most paleterias *attempt* to make the Guayaba Paleta like that, if they're authentic and care about their products, but it doesn't usually work out this spectacularly well. I doubt I'll ever find one better than this - not sure if I'll even have another one as good. I didn't even know Guava was the kind of fruit that could offer such a huge chunks of deliciousness. But now I do. So, they literally sold me the best Paleta I've ever had in my life. I thought it was slightly steep for $2 (but then so is the hill going up to your mother's love nest, I would know), but once I started eating it I realized it could have been $5 and it still wouldn't have been too expensivo for the wonderful deliciousness. I would like to take a moment and let the world know what they are missing. Over dramatic? Nope, truth. This place was packed on the Saturday before Mother's Day. Mom and I had just gotten done huffing and puffing through the crowds at the City Market. Let's also say we had full stomachs from breakfast @succotashkc( heavy Nutella crepes, and the "kitchen sink". We were hot, tired and in need of refreshing. The lady behind the counter was so nice and helpful and guided us through the ordering process. We both got the fruit cups (can't for the life of me remember what they are called) - the medium is gigantic , but believe me , you won't want to share. The cup was filled with watermelon, pineapple,cantaloupe and doused in lime juice and salty chili powder. She then shoved jicama, mango, and cucumber "sticks" into the top. Over all that was sprinkled some more of the chili salt with more lime. The taste explosion was out of this world. I had finished all the mango in the short walk back to the car. It's a very small space but the service and food makes up for it :) they usually have a line out the door. I recommend trying the berry mix smoothie. I've visited several times and ordered chilindrinas, I have tried Mayo and cream at different occasions and no matter what I get the churro gets soaked by then time I sit down. Maybe it's the cabbage that's too wet but I end up only eating half of the churro Bc the rest is disgustingly soggy. I would recommend visiting for the ice cream and mangonadas. The mangonadas are amazing, I would recommend asking for especial which means adding pineapple and mango chunks to the top and bottom. I would also advise to go light on the chamoy, it can get a bit overwhelming ruin your dessert. Parking: there is usually street parking within a block of Tropicana. Most recently got the piñon (pine nuts) and coffee almond fudge. Both were super delicious. They have fresh juices, smoothies, Mexican snacks like elotes and fruit cups with chile and lime. They menu describes the menu items and breaks down the ingredients, so you know what you're getting. They also have a large variety of frozen pops of various flavors. Another hole-in-the wall in the city! Paleterias Torpicana offers a wide variety of tasty desserts for a fraction of the price. From paletas to smoothies, your taste buds and wallet will be satisfied. After considering many options, I opted for a Gansito (mexican snack-like twinkie flavor) paleta. I was wonderfully surprised at how creamy and tasty the paleta was. The hints of chocolate and strawberry jelly complemented the creamy base of the paleta well. My friend decided to get the mangoneada, a mexican fruit drink with mangos, chili powder, and chamoy sauce, and it was equally delicious. The mango was very fresh and the sweetness added a good contrast to the spiciness of the chili powder.
