How good is that? They actually care that much where the animals are going and want to make sure they are not going someplace where they could be let outdoors and be harmed or living in a bad environment. To this day the company I work for and myself collect donations to help out their Cat and Dog shelters. I am so grateful there is a place like this that really does care about what happens what the animals leave their care. More places should take lessons from them. During the adoption process we found out that Susie was around 1 year old and found as a stray with her kittens. She was almost dead from lack of food, but was continuing to nurse her kittens regardless of her own health. Once her kittens and her were returned to full health she was spayed, but her body reacted badly procedure and once again she almost died. The shelter kept giving her continuos care and once again returned her to full health, and that is when we found her. I cannot thank this shelter enough for caring to help her through her tough young life and not giving up and euthanizing her. She is a great cat and I am so happy to have supported such a great shelter! Give this shelter a look if you're looking to adopt!

Our business has been collecting items for them for 6 years now and we just love supporting this local non-profit that has been making such a huge and important impact to our community. They have times when volunteers can help sort donations and get items ready to be sent to the families. I haven't helped with that yet, but hope to soon! Great work NCO!

I've volunteered, in one capacity or another, with Because People Matter for more than a decade,…read moremostly through their community outreach program, "Night Strike", which gathers under the Burnside Bridge every Thursday night, providing services, resources, community and relationship to the under-served in our struggling city. But Night Strike is only one head of the hydra that is BPM, an organization with so many fingers in so many pies, that even I, as a dozen year veteran volunteer, have trouble keeping track of them all. Beyond their outreach efforts under the bridge, another BPM program is, well..."Beyond the Bridge": an extension of Night Strike's efforts to transition those suffering from homelessness and addiction into housing and treatment programs, as well as networking and coordinating existing city resources to find the best recovery path for individuals with these issues. BPM also engages with underprivileged youth (and their families) via their BTown Kids programs, which operate on summer weekends at various parks scattered throughout the city, and focus on providing individualized attention, fostering relationships, playing games and activities, and addressing immediate needs such as hunger/nutrition in a fun, safe and positive environment. I've volunteered with other non-profits, outreach programs and support communities over the years, and inevitably, with all of them, the underlying sense that there is an agenda or ulterior motive at the heart of each, whether it be religious conversion, profiteering, or something else nefarious, was always present. Not so with Because People Matter. Regardless of your religious affiliation, disability, economic status, criminal history, addiction (current or past), or any other "stigmatizing" factor, Because People Matter has a place for you, as a participant, or a volunteer. Few organizations fall under the umbrella of being truly altruistic, but Because People Matter is one of them; and in a city that rains this much, we need many more umbrellas like this!

We had such high hopes for this summer camp and looked forward to it for over a month. Yes the…read moreexperience being on a farm was good for our kids but the owner, Stephanie was a nightmare. The way in which she spoke to my kids, her teenage staff members and me as a parent was absolutely appalling to say the least. Her attitude in person and via email was not professional AT ALL and I was disgusted by her behavior. I feel bad for her staff members who have to deal with that every day. I will not be recommending this camp to anyone and my kids will not be enrolling again. It's too bad it ended up this way, we spent a lot of money for my kids to be picked up crying everyday because of her.

We bought a package deal for the grandgirl so she had a horse…read moreride, picked a pumpkin, went on a hay ride, 3 apples to sling into the ravine (they were too good for the ravine we ate them), roasted a sausage dog and marshmallows. We also visited with the animals- horses, bunnies, donkeys, goats, a cow and a pig, listened to live music, made big bubbles, did the bean bag toss and slid on the slide.
