Are usually don't take the time to do reviews of hotels but this one needs some feedback. The rooms are nothing special and the carpets are old, walls need painting and the rooms generally need updating. There's no ability to rent a movie in the room. The service is what is particularly bad. I called to make a reservation and told them that I would like a quiet room away from elevators and ice machines. Guess where I was given a room? That's right- directly across from the elevator with that ice machine two doors down. My remote control was not working so I brought it down to the front desk whereupon I was told to bring it back to my room and they will work on it. I told them no, I was not going all the way back to my room just to leave the remote there. Rude. Then when I checked out I asked why I was charged an extra $150 on my bill the moment I checked in. The young woman starts to explain to me that it's $50 a day for incidentals. I said I understood that but usually incidentals are not charged in advance whereupon she proceeded to lecture me about how hotels work and what they charge for and what they don't. I have traveled the world. I did not need to be told how hotels in general work. It's new to me to be charged $50 a day in advance for incidentals but if that's how they do it then there's a way to explain it to customers respectfully. read more

I booked a wedding block with this hotel for my wedding on Sept. 17th, 2016. As with any wedding block, guests have until a specific date to book their rooms within the block, before the hotel releases them to the public. The date the InterContinental set for us was August 19th, 2016 - on that date, any rooms that were not booked with our guests would be released to the public. We agreed upon this, signed a contract, and printed out hundreds of invites containing this information. Unfortunately, I received notice around August 10th that I had guests attempting to book their rooms within our wedding block. No one was able to, as the hotel was full. I immediately called their sales office to see why my guests were unable to book rooms. I found out that the hotel had given away our entire wedding block without notifying us. Therefore, I had sent out hundreds of invites to wedding guests advising them to book at the InterContinental, when really, the hotel had broken contract with us, never notified us, and given away all of our rooms. Obviously, this was extremely frustrating as we now had thousands of dollars worth of printed wedding invites that contained the wrong information. Fine, we thought - the hotel would fix the mistake they had caused and the situation they had put us in. I was extremely wrong. Not once was I told (as I spoke to the sales team/manager) that they were sorry for breaching contract. Instead, I was told over and over that it was a curtesy block and they wouldn't do anything. I let them know I understand it was a curtesy block, but we still had a signed contract which stated that if they were to change the terms of the contract they HAD TO notify us and if they needed to release ANY rooms from our wedding block prior to August 19th, they had to give us a 48 hour notice. Neither of these communications ever occurred and they completely disregarded our signed contract with them. When I originally booked this wedding block of rooms with the sales team, we blocked off 25 rooms. I had initially asked for more rooms in the block - they said they could not initially give us more than 25 rooms for a block, but as we got closer to the date and our block filled up, we could potentially add more rooms to it. The woman I was working with had emailed me in early July stating that there was a large concert that night in downtown St. Paul - she reiterated that they would honor our 25 room wedding block, but would not be able to add more rooms to that block once it filled up. Fine, this is completely understandable. But, apparently, the hotel is now trying to claim that was their notice that they were releasing all of our rooms. It is our impression that they were able to book rooms at a higher rate (since there was a large concert going on that night) than our guests were paying for our wedding block, so they just released the rooms trying to make more of a profit - and completely disregarding their customers and the effect it would have on them. It is extremely saddening that we had a contract with this hotel and they completely disregarded the contract, and broke it. They have not only cost us a lot of wasted money in incorrectly printed invites, but never once apologized for their mistake. Instead, I heard over and over, "We cannot do anything at this point." I would expect them to get us our rooms back (and make other accommodations at nearby hotels for the guests that they overbooked with). I know this is an option and done frequently, as I have immediate family that has worked in the hotel industry for years and years. But, no such offer was made and when it was mentioned, said it could not be done. This is the WORST customer service I have ever dealt with. I have worked in customer service my entire life, and if my company had made a mistake, breached contract, and caused an issue like this - I would be (first and foremost) apologetic and then ensure that we fixed the problem we had caused. Neither of these two things ever occurred. Not only have they been inconsiderate and not willing to work with us as we tried to resolve the situation, but they have also offered absolutely NO solution to the situation THEY caused besides, "Oh well, can't do anything about it now." I will NEVER book with or recommend this hotel to anyone. This has truly been the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. read more

I stayed here for ten days and in ten days, I will be back. This is a very nice property. The food is phenomenal. The staff is top notch. Rooms are a tad small, but there are so many places to explore in the small, quaint downtown area of St. Paul, you'll rarely be in your room. Like I said, I'll be back for my next trip I spend half of my nights in hotels. This one is one of the good ones. read more

We stayed at the InterContinental St. Paul this weekend while attending a wedding at the nearby St. Paul Athletic Club. If this review were only for the room, it would receive 5 stars. The accommodations are beautiful, with lovely textured wallpaper, crisp but soft bedding, and handsome furniture. Our King Executive room had a gorgeous view of the riverfront, ample desk space, and a very sexy glass paneled, walk-in shower with a relaxing rain shower head. While the in-room coffee Keurig maker had only one Caffeinated pod available, we were more or less satisfied as only one of us drinks caffeinated coffee. There were several decaf pods as well as some tea. This may have been an oversight in restocking, as there was also an old Keurig pod in the maker when we went to make an AM cup. Not a huge offense, but a good example of the various ways the InterContinental fell a bit short of our hopes and expectations during our stay. We had called ahead to assess the parking situation. We were told we could park overnight for $18. Slightly steep, but makes sense for a downtown area in the Capital city. When we arrived, the lot that had been quoted was simply a public lot, and it was full. The hotel offers overnight valet parking at an even steeper $29. We ended up finding another public lot just 1 block away offering overnight parking for $10. That's a win for our sleuthing, but we were disappointed that we felt the hotel had misled us. Our weekend stay coincided with a Wild hockey game at the nearby Xcel Energy Center, a beauty or talent pageant, and potentially another wedding being held at or near the hotel. This meant very long lines for the check-in process. I must note that I truly appreciate the front desk staff people attempting to check people in efficiently and to keep the line moving, but disappointingly the staff person we directly interfaced with never looked up to welcome us, and interrupted our check-in process to assist a fellow staffperson with an issue that did not seem at all emergent. We were very confused by this, whether or not we were finished with our transaction, and there was not a lot of assuring communication. I realize that busy, high-volume times necessitate a sort of trade off in warm welcomes, but we did not feel welcomed at all. But we are fairly easy to please, and most of this irritation wore off fairly quickly as we entered our beautiful room, described above. The check out process went smoothly, though I must say it still lacked a personal flair that I always hope to experience when dropping hundreds of dollars for a place to sleep for a handful of hours. Perhaps we just hit on a weekend where the hotel found itself short-staffed? While we were disappointed with some aspects of the hotel, we will likely give it another try when we need to spend the night in St. Paul in order to get a better sense of what they are capable of providing. read more

Beautiful hotel. I'm a big hotel critic and must say that I really enjoyed my stay at InterContinental during my business trip. The room reminded me of the Andaz in NYC. Very comfortable King bed with modern European decor in the bath. I get all my design ideas from hotels. Can't wait to design another bathroom because I definitely picked up a new idea here. read more

I was pleased with the location of the hotel and the greeting we received we arrived. Our room was rather small, but the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was nice. Overall, it is a fine hotel. The reason why I am only giving 3 stars is because the parking garage was an absolute joke. The ceiling is extremely low and the whole garage is airtight. I literally saw a car in front of me bump into the wall because it was so narrow in there. I was very nervous that someone was going to crash into our rental car. When I checked in, I was given a ticket to use in the parking garage and was told I could go in and out as I please. What I was not informed of, was that they distribute more tickets than there are spaces in the garage. When I left the garage on the second day, there were no open spots when I came back. I did two laps around the death-trap of a garage and it was completely full. When I complained to the manager, she was not at all apologetic. She said the garage is a third party and they have no control over the fact that they overbook the spots. If I had been told that when I checked in, there is no way I would have parked there. I would recommend this hotel if the location is convenient for you and if you do not plan on using their parking garage. read more

I'm disappointed in the structure of their new system for the ambassador's lounge. They only allow the top tier in to the lounge now. Even Marriott isn't that snotty. The main reason I stay here when I come to St. Paul is the lounge...Well used to stay here, I won't anymore, nor will they be getting recommendations from me. My boyfriend and I stayed here on April 14th because this is where his school's Barrister's Ball (Law School Prom) was taking place. Well on this day, as many know, the Twin Cities was in the middle of a snow storm. We live about 30 minutes outside of the city and there were no plans on the Ball being cancelled. My boyfriend had called early to see if there was any possible way we could check-in earlier than 3pm. They were SO accommodating! We arrived at 11:30am and they had a room all ready for us. We were fortunately able to make it safely to the Ball because they allowed us to check in early. So we were able to beat driving before the roads got really bad. It became a really needed day of relaxation for us. We ordered room service, which arrived quickly and it was delicious! The view was beautiful and we could see the river (before visibility became low due to snow). The only minor problem was there was a cold draft coming in and it was hard to get the room warm enough, even with the temp turned all the way up. That didn't completely ruin our experience though! I highly recommend the Intercontinental if you're in the cities or you're just looking for a mini stay-cay! read more

Very nice (though small) room, but the service is horrible and the staff is extremelt rude. Part 1: We had specifically requested adjoining rooms, one with a King and one room with 2 double beds as we were here for a wedding and our daughter and son-in-law and their kids were with us.. Upon check in, they told us that our rooms did not adjoin. This was a necessity because we have small grandkids under the age of 4 that we would be bringing back to the room early from the wedding we were attending. They were extremely unwilling to find us two adjoining rooms. My husband, who never gets upset, was livid, and we ended up with adjoining rooms. Part 2 We get into the rooms and there is a massive credensa on both sides blocking access to each of the rooms! I would have expected more from a hotel that we are spending a pretty penny on for not one, but 2 rooms! NEVER AGAIN! read more

The hotel was gorgeous and the rooms were immaculate. Beds were comfy and pillows were plush. 4 pillows on each queen bed. The staff were all very friendly and kind. The only issue we had was we paid for our parking on our room and left for a play, when we came back the ramp said full and wouldn't let us in. We used the speaker and the nice lady said she would send a valet out to let us in or show us where we could park. The valet came up and said it's full that's why as if we were dumb. We had to reexplain and he finally let us in but he was not very nice. read more

At the Ambassador Lounge in Intercontinental Hotel in St. Paul, MN. It says that it opens at 6:30 am for breakfast. No one is here. The front desk is making all kinds of excuses that it is a room service issue. Not my problem. I pay for the privilege and I should not have to chase for service. Nice enough hotel. But I had MICE in my room. When I checked out there were mice outside. Not rats at least, but still......

Upon checking in and after sending an email to the sales rep regarding a sever allergy to down/feathers and assured the room would be sorted, the room still had down pillows and a down comforter which I removed from the room. Then after notifying the front desk, they assured me it would be resolved. Then I went back in the room to a newly made bed to find two feather pillows on the bed. This allergy is no joke and I felt like they didn't try. Then later I ordered room service and was called 15 minutes later that the bowl of tomato soup I ordered had been dropped and there was no more soup left. So I asked for a Caesar salad as it was the only other vegetarian item on the late night menu. The manager who called me assured me it would be removed from the bill which it was not and it was loaded with chicken. This stay has been a disaster. read more

The rooms were nicely decorated. But, no fan in the bathroom?! And only one of our windows opened a crack. I know that is for safety reasons but it got really hot and humid in there when we all took showers in the morning. The fridge in our room froze all of our stuff. But the Keurig was nice. Kind of a waste of newspapers to have those delivered daily although a nice touch. The bartender downstairs seemed pretty annoyed that we came downstairs to order at the bar telling us that we should have gotten room service instead. Not impressed. For what they charge I expected more than a closet sized room that has a funky smell. The parking garage is downright scary and they charge $18 per day on top of the room rate. The "gift shop" is open only until 3pm. This is my first time in St. Paul so I'm not sure if I'm underwhelmed by the city or the hotel. I feel like I'm in a ghetto version of NYC where everything is small, overpriced and only shiny on the surface. read more

This review is strictly on their room service food. Nice hotel. Not a cheap place to stay. We spent like 80 dollars worth of food. 95 % of it was stale chips. Horrible. Tiny slider and tons of chips and chips. Ripped off. Not up to the hotels reputation. Will not stay there again. Horrible experience at this hotel! We arrived at 7pm and were told we couldn't check in because our rooms still have not been cleaned. There was no where to park, the elevator was broken and we waited for a half hour to try to get up to our room, the restaurant/bar was so full we couldn't get any service, valet lost our keys and then our battery was dead when we went to go start our vehicle at the end of the night. The staff was very unprofessional and had no respect for their customers. Very overpriced, would never recommend this hotel to anyone! read more

My wife and I visited the hotel as a second part of our honeymoon after 5 days in Vegas. We arrived about 9pm on a day and found that on Sunday's there are not may places to get food. The hotel itself was very grand downstairs but the rooms do need to be updated, our room anyway. We did Universal Studios a great day out and a city tour the next day. Both worth a visit. read more
