I'm currently going to Cris for electrolysis on my legs, and I can say without a doubt that she's the best decision I've ever made in terms of hair removal. There are three reasons in particular that I highly recommend Cris for anyone considering electrolysis: 1) Education and Experience Cris is not only incredibly well-educated in all things electrolysis, but is also constantly challenging herself to learn more. Her office walls are literally covered in all her certifications and licenses, and I'm not even sure she has them all up yet. The thing about Cris is that she is so dedicated to her business and to her customers, that she regularly attends international conferences on electrolysis on her own dime. She even wrote an electrolysis training book! That's how much of an expert this woman is. 2) Technology The machine that Cris uses the best of the best, and I can say that because I went to another place in Austin before her, and there, I couldn't imagine myself getting a treatment any longer than 20 minutes. With Cris, I regularly do 2-hour treatments, and there have been times where I've almost fallen asleep. 3) Going above and beyond Cris is so kind and understanding, that I couldn't imagine going to anyone else. She's incredibly honest, so easy to talk to, always asks me if I'm doing okay and has no problem taking a small break if I ask for one. Not only is she a great listener, but she really cares about how her patients are doing both physically and emotionally. I found International Beauty Center after 6 months of failed laser hair removal. As a redhead I was skeptical that laser hair removal would work, but the establishment I was going to ensured me I was a candidate. Unfortunately, not only did laser not work, it actually made my hair growth worse. When I first met with Cristina at IBC she was very understanding and knew she could help me. I've been dealing with unwanted facial hair since puberty. For years I plucked, tweezed, shaved, bleached, waxed, threaded and depleted my face only to cause scaring and still have the hair regrow within days. I started to going to see Cris back in November of 2016 for some serious unwanted hair growth on my chin and neck area. I wish I had gone sooner!! I always thought electrolysis was the same as laser hair removal and it is not!! Laser hair removal only made the hair growth worse for me. Thank you yelp!!!!!! Seriously, I don't know where I'd be now without Yelp. After having the worst experience from laser hair removal on my face, which by the way causes any naturally fine hair on your face or body to grow at super fast speeds, I thought I was out of options. Before laser, I didn't have any issues with facial hair; after laser, I could actually see very fine hairs growing abnormally long. Even though I've heard of electrolysis years ago, I assumed it would be expensive and required too much time for each hair. Well, that may be the case with some electrologists, but fortunately I found a very qualified electrologist whom has genuinely helped me rid of unwanted hair on my face and body. Initially I was planning on doing just my face, but after seeing how quick and effective and PAINLESS it is, I decided to do my bikini area too. It's also far more cost-effective when compared to laser, as laser requires at least 5 sessions to see hair-reduction (not permanent) in the areas where the hair is coarse; but it won't work that well for areas with finer hair, or light-colored hair. But electrolysis works just the same on all hair types and colors, as well as all skin types and colors. I've done multiple laser sessions on my body as well, so I'm very familiar with all of it. Just like cars, not all laser machines are created equal. And just like drivers, not all technicians have the knowledge/experience to give you the best results, no matter how great the machine is. I've done laser using the very same machine, but with two different technicians at separate locations. One technician gave me noticeable results, while the other did absolutely nothing; they were more expensive too :( I'm very happy I learned about Cristina at IBC, and I'm thankful for the previous yelpers that took time to post these reviews. I found Cristina through Yelp when I was looking for an electrologist in Austin. I was looking to do a full brazilian and legs. No small feat, as y'all can tell. I am so glad I made a decision to go with IBC. It could be one of the best decisions I've made in my life - that's how great Cristina is. Not only is she the absolutely best electrologist you will ever find anywhere, she is also an amazing person with a big heart. She is great at what she does - not only does she do the job exceptionally well, she also stays on top of all the latest techniques and research, speaks at conferences and trains other people, including those who are already professional electrologists. She has numerous credentials, including a Master's degree in electrology, and can give you scientific answers to any of the hair-growth related questions you may have. The progress with my brazilian has been amazing. It does take time to go through it, as the area is large, but it is 100% worth it, if you are willing and able to invest time and money. I saw the results right away, and I have had minimal regrowth in the treated areas. Cristina might be one of the very few electrologists in the country who uses local anesthesia for the most sensitive areas. Actually, if it wasn't the case, I don't know if I would be able to go through the treatment. She is great at making the whole process virtually painless and she really cares about how you feel and if you are comfortable. Also, her student Lily is absolutely great - I have been going to her for the electrolysis on my legs, and she has done some long marathon sessions with me and cleared both my legs in three days, which was fantastic. I still have to go in every three weeks or so to zap the persistent leg hairs that keep growing, but it takes maybe 3-4 hours per session, and it's less and less hair every time. I really really recommend IBC for all your electrolysis needs. A lot of people come here after they've tried other places and had bad experiences, or after laser that didn't work. If you want to get rid of body or facial hair, that's your one stop shop. Look no further. Oh, and both Cristina and Lily are absolutely wonderful people that make you feel at ease and are an absolute joy to have a conversation with. The Good: Usually does good work. No scarring, relatively low pain Mixed reviews as to doing what want (see below). The Bad: Extremely hard to work with. On the one had I'm surprised that the other reviewers don't mention this. On the other hand I regret having initially praised her to a friend, who ended even more upset than I was. Cristina has very strong views and I always felt lectured at, not listened to. What I got was an improvement over what I started with but not entirely what I wanted and not as good as I've had from others. She usually started late, sometimes over a half an hour, never apologized, and seemed to charge me for the whole time booked even if she started late and ended on time. So maybe it's a matter of chemistry. I won't speculate as to who she does and doesn't hit it off with but be assured that if you don't, it's not just you. read more

Cristina's love for her job and each of her clients' well-being, makes her a unique electrologist because she is not only empathetic and kind, but she is talented and incredibly well educated. I made an appointment (great-easy process) then got a text message day of appointment telling me the technician had a personal emergency to take care of and that my appointment was cancelled. I totally get that life happens, but no one made any effort to help me reschedule or even apologize. I have been so happy with my results that I have started having her work on other areas that I never thought I could have done before because I was spending so much time on only a couple of areas. Seeing Cristina has been a miracle!!! If you are considering laser, please read this review. Laser left me with years of devastating results, but electrolysis has changed my life for the better in such a short time. I struggled with facial hair growing up. I remember being teased and as a result, I dealt with it by waxing, bleaching and using depilatory creams. I had heard "great" things about laser, so 10 years ago I decided to try it. Little did I know it would be the source of years of sorrow, pain and regret! What ended up happening was laser actually caused more hair growth. I had never had that type of hair growth before. Not only more hair growth but hair growth that was thick, coarse and it grew back within days. It was very similar to a man's hair growth. What I had thought would cause me less hair and help my situation actually made my situation 100 times worse. Laser was incredibly painful and left me with blisters and scaring. Enduring laser was the worst experience. It felt like I was being zapped and burned by a hot iron over and over. The pain I endured from laser left me with emotional pain of having to deal with 10 times as much hair in a worst condition. After my laser experience I decided to wax and use Vaniqa. It was a temporary fix, but I was still hoping for something permanent. I decided to research electrolysis because I knew I would never allow laser to touch my skin again. That is when I found Cristina on Yelp. On a side note, I actually thought Vaniqa was safe to use over long periods of time, but when I met with Cristina she actually informed me that Vaniqa causes liver damage when used over long periods. This was something my doctor hadn't even told me. I had been using Vaniqa for two years straight without stopping. After Cristina told me, I stopped using it immediately. Cristina is amazing! I set up a free consultation this past December 2013. Immediately, I knew she was the person that would help me. I felt connected to her. She was incredibly caring and compassionate. I have tried nearly everything under the sun when it comes to hair removal and everything has pretty much left my skin irritated with major hyper-pigmentation and ingrown hairs. Unfortunately, I fell for the laser hair Groupon trap, only to find out it is not permanent and actually stimulated more facial hair growth. The first electrologist (she doesn't even deserve that title!) I went to was a big mistake. I decided to go to her because she was the only option in my small town. She used an archaic method that left my skin more damaged than before. All she pretty much did was break hair! I could hear hair snapping/breaking as she roughly tugged at the hair. To top it off, it was the most excruciating pain I have ever felt, I almost cried. She mentioned a couple of times...you can leave if you want, a lot of people leave because they can't take the pain. She told me some of her clients had been coming to her for 10yrs for the same area. Well I can see why...her method is horrible. At the end of the treatment she told me to touch my face (I felt huge lumps!) and said they will ago away soon. Well those lumps lasted over a week and painful ingrown hairs followed. I just wanted to hide underneath a rock after that traumatizing event. I do not understand how she is still in business smh. So I researched more about electrolysis and decided I needed someone who is certified and highly recommended. I suffer from something called Polycystic Ovary Syndrome or known mostly as PCOS. I was diagnosed when I was in the 7th grade. For the people who don't know what this is, I will tell you just one of my symptoms.....HAIR GROWTH!! I had very, very bad hair growth on my face, I pretty much had a beard. I tried lasers(it got worse), I tried waxing but it didn't work and I broke out in an allergic reaction, so I resorted to shaving everyday. I hated it and it was irritating to me and my skin.
