I want to express that at the time of my original review, I did feel that we received 5 star service. I did feel misled by the advertisement on Yelp which denotes the International Braid Boutique as an actual salon when in fact she just operates out of her home in Van Nuys. I overlooked that because I took my daughter there sveral times over the course of 2 years and had always left satisfied. All was well until I started to request cornrows. She did it one time but after that she simply stopped returning my text messages which I found unprofessional. We haven't been back since. I found Fatou on Yelp 2 years ago and have not been disappointed since. No matter when I contact her she makes herself available to do my daughter's hair. She works quickly and efficiently and unlike other braid places we've been to, the braids never fall out. She really knows what she is doing. As a family that was new to LA, Fatou really took care of our hair care needs! She is also located in the Valley which is incredibly convenient for us. Fatou is an amazing braider. I have been going to her for 3 years and I recently started taking my 11 y/o daughter (who is quite tender headed btw). We never have any pain or hair breakage and our braids always last 2-3 months. We try to get them redone every 2 1/2 months or so. I never have to wait and we are in and out fairly quickly. Completely unprofessional. First of all the address is wrong on Yelp. I was so embarrassed when I knocked on a stranger's door this morning to find out I was at the wrong address. I then call her and tell her and she gives me the correct address. I show up at her house only to wait another 30 minutes. The young man told me that shes still not ready and if I could go over to Woodland Hills so another lady could do my hair. I've been in some tacky situations but this by far takes the cake. The reason I put a star here is because I can't put a review here without one. First I must say the owner of this garage store shop is very very stupid and irresponsible. I chose to go here based on the good reviews I read on yelp and now I know that reviews cant tell the whole truth. So I called this lady up on a Wednesday from the phone number on yelp and left a voicemail, she called me back with another number and I told her what hair style I wanted for my kid -a cornrow, she agreed she does it and appointment was made for Saturday at 1p and promised to text me her address. Waited till Friday and called her again before she sent me the text for her base. On Saturday morning I received a text where she apologized that "That's why I was asking because the cornrows girl did not show up today , she has an emergency, so sorry... But she can do tomorrow at 3pm tho" after knowing well I wanted cornrows and about to go out to her place, I didn't complain. My response -Ok see u at 3 tomorrow and she thanked me. I got to her place exactly 3pm on Sunday after driving about 45mins and on getting there she started stories.. "I sent you a text today you didn't reply" (Hi! Can I send me a pic of the style u want to get pls-her text) I wonder why I needed to reply a meaningless question like this since cornrows are basic hairstyle, you either know it or not. To make matters worst she said "my cornrows lady flake on me, I text you so I could refer you to someone I know who do cornrows or you have to wait an hour or comeback in an hour after I finish the one I'm doing". Cut long story short, I asked her are you sure you know how to do this hair she started rambling and then said "I can't do your hair after I told her I'm very disappointed at how she treated us, and she just kept lying about what she said in a matter of seconds. So I left and now I have to find someone on a Sunday who can do her hair. She is a liar and she is very irresponsible and people like this should not operate business because she is a scam!! Now I hope you are operating your hair scheme in your garage with the fake Louis Vuitton stuffs you are selling with a license as I will make sure I take steps towards that as well. I have a copy of your text message as well!!
