I can not recommend Yvonne. She's not a good braider and pulled my daughter's hair. Braiding hair is not pulling until the scalp is red, sore and irritated. She was not professional and truly not honest about her experience and training. I was so disappointed with her work. She's not a good braider but told me she's been braiding 20 years. Her ability to fit me into her schedule last minute was amazing as was her response time. Most hairstylists take forever to get back to you and would not be able to fit you in last minute AND provide quality professional service with grade A hospitality. It's cute but when I called to inquire about how much 4 braids would be she said it started at 85, when I got there she did my hair and she then told me I owe her $250 dollars. I looked at my hair and I looked at her and I said are you serious? For what? The hair cost 5 bucks or less per pack, i just had my hair braided recently by someone else who had a professional setting inside a salon suite and washed my hair and braided two regular braids with hair added and she charged me 60 bucks. This place is a rip off and in all honesty she did an ok job, some of my hair is still very frizzy and people are saying "dip those braids!" I've gone to Yvonne for knotless box braids 5 times over the last year. She's talented, and I'd give 5 stars for quality. However, I had to lower the score because of price/pricing and inability to wash hair. Ultimately, the experience and quality was good enough that I continued to go back, but I would recommend getting clarity on the exact total cost before starting. Pros: Speed- Her speed is impressive! She is nearly twice as fast as most braiders. Medium sized braids take about 2 hours. Small (this is the standard box braid size) take about 3.5 houts. Quality- in the past when I've gotten braids my scalp hurts for hours afterwards. Yvonne's braids are pain free and her products help with scalp health. The braids don't unravel, but need to be re-done after about 5-6 weeks, depending on how quickly your hair grows. Experience- Yvonne is professional and friendly. Her space is clean, she almost always starts right on time and can make appointments with relatively short notice. There's a large tv and she always puts on some fun Netflix movies or shows. Cons: Price- Yvonne will not quote a price over the phone, or will say "$150 and up" when people ask. For braids, the pricing is from $250- more than $1,000. Specifically, one large thick braid is $250 (one big braid ponytail) or "Large" braids that are 1.5 inches thick each. For Large knotless braids the price is $350+. Medium braids (about 3/4 inch thick) are $475 for knotless, $350 for knotted). Small braids (these are the standard individual box braids size that would be considered medium anywhere else- think Brandy in the 90s) are $775 for knotless . For micro-braids the cost is $975 and up for knotless. Price moves well over $1,100 as the braids get even smaller. The above prices don't necessarily include the hair or take-down of braids. Those prices were not listed or mentioned until I questioned the total charge a few times. Then, she said that the price for braids take-down is $150 (this does not include washing or drying the hair). She has also mentioned $10/bundle charge for hair. For Medium braids that would be about $70 additional. Also a $4 charge to pay with credit card. However, these prices were not written down and were not always charged. Price Inconsistencies- I never paid the same amount every time I went. The first time I went I got standard "small" knotless box braids and was charged $775 flat (no extra charge for hair); the second time, she took down the previous braids then she put in larger ("Medium") braids and charged $520. I got the exact same thing done the next two times and was charged $545 once and $535 the other time. The last (and final) time I did not have braids in when I went (so no need for a take down) and she still wanted to charge $545. When I questioned the pricing she stated I was given a discount each time, because she wasn't charging me for take down or for the full price for the hair. None of those prices were posted or discussed, so it was hard to understand how I was being charged more than the posted price and was actually getting a "deal". Not a salon- I don't mind having my hair done out of an apartment, but the inability to have my hair washed there was not ideal. After my braids were taken down, I'd drive home to wash and dry my hair before returning for the install. Also, usually the pricing is lower when not in a salon because of the lack of overhead. Lastly, I found it strange that I had to fill out a detailed sheet every single time I went (name, address, birthday, email address, etc.) even though I was a repeat customer. read more
