I'm loving the references to the ketchup rule. That is, in all honesty, why I tried this place to begin with. A friend of my wife's was telling the story of a guy who basically got into a shouting match with the fellow who made his gyro over whether it was okay to put ketchup on it. The fight apparently ended when the owner (?) gave the guy his money back and threw his gyro away, saying that he'd rather do that than see someone ruin it with ketchup. That's hardcore. That's a gyro that I had to taste for myself. You know what? It was a pretty good gyro. It didn't change my life, and I could see how putting ketchup on it (or any other gyro, for that matter) would be a horrible thing to do to it, but I don't think it was a pristine work of art that could only be enjoyed one way. For living literally across the street from this place, I am disappointed at myself for never having come here until now. I bought a Lamb Gyros and was neatly pleased by the flavorful meat. If you are looking to escape the ceaseless choices of American food then try out this place. I shall certainly make it a more regular stop. One of the best restaurants in the Triangle and my go to lunch spot on 9th street! The philly at this restaurant changes the game. The meat is seasoned very well, with a myriad of spices particular to this restaurant. Put together perfectly with fries that are also beyond the basic. Salt, pepper and something special! I'd give it 2.5 stars if I could. It's cheap and it's pretty decent food. The pitas are warm, soft and fresh, so that elevates everything. The hummus is just so-so. My big problem is with the gyros. I'm not an expert so I may be wrong about this, but I highly doubt that the gyro meat comes off a vertical rotisserie like it's supposed to and like the menu claims. First of all, if they have one, they do a great job hiding it. That's a big departure from other places I've been that have the rotisserie in plain sight so you can watch them shave your meat off the sides. Second of all, the meat itself (lamb in my case) is thick and evenly shaped, suggesting heavily to something baked in a pan at best and heated frozen out of a box at worst. Either way it's still decently tasty, just maybe update the menu to reflect reality. read more

Love everything I eat here. Its not the best I ever had but I always leave satisfied. I usually get either a steak sub with fries, a beef and lamb gyros with fries or the falafel with hummus. You can also partake in a little Hookah puffn if you wish. I think they even sell hookahs there. read more

Ordered the beef/lamb gyro with fries and the bottled guava drink along with a falafel side and baklawa for about $18 total. Let me tell you what else we got...about 5 facial hairs or what I hope were facial hairs that adhered to the inside of the styrofoam container which housed our gyro and fries. Unfortunately, not noticed until well into the meal. The food itself wasn't bad. The fries were well seasoned but not so spectacular they didn't need sauce. I liked that there were no onions are on the gyro cause I always order my food without. The falafels were fresh, hot, crispy in the outside. Nice texture but a bit salty for me. Dessert was the best part. Flaky layers of phyllo that wasn't over saturated with honey and the right amount of nuts..just wish the piece was bigger! I'd return again and hope hair is not included in our next meal. read more

Great restaurant with wide ranging menu options, affordable pricing, quick no nonsense service, and available for take-out via takeout central (always a plus). Their sandwiches are hefty and stuffed full of meats which gives you a great portion for an already low price. Only complaint is that sometimes the baklava desserts (particularly the burma) can be a little dry and less flavorful than other similar restaurants in the area. I happened to stop into this food shop with a girlfriend after visiting a spiritual supply store in Durham, first off the lamb gyro and chicken gyro made my eyes roll over in the back of my head!! the flat bread was so soft and delicious and the lamb ohhh lawd!! the chicken and seasonings, I was in heaven!!! I have never in my life had gyro's that delicious and I lived in Boston and visited NY with the Middle Eastern joints, I love the way the restaurant was decorated too. man just typing this I'm feening for one of their gyro's now!! they must work some serious magic on those gyros cause it don't make no sense to have one and dream about them afterwards. read more

Great restaurant with some of the best falafel and grape leaves that I've ever had. However, I ordered take out and was saddened to see a tower of styrofoam containers used (instead of the compostable or paperboard-based containers used by a lot of other restaurants nearby). Every time I have been here the food has been delicious. The Cheese steak is delicious, flavorful and rich. I have tried the chicken cheese and it is just as good. It is rare to find a chicken cheese as good as a cheese steak. I will probably stick with the chicken unless I really want the rich flavor of a true cheese steak. International Delights is a place in Durham that has been here as long as I can remember. They have the best philly cheese steaks and gyros around. The cool part is they also serve and sell hookah if you want and have made to order food for every entree. They are a family run restaurant which has been passed down through the family to the son now so you know the recipes are very traditional, authentic and delicious. The service is friendly and quick as it is a casual spot to eat. Great location too so you can go walk around 9th street after a delicious meal. They do not serve ketchup as it tarnishes the taste they are going for so don't ask if you order fries! read more
