I love this store. since visiting the balkans, i have missed the quality of food since i came back to the states. this place completes my pantry now! I come to stock up on ajvar and cheeses, fresh made burek, and locally sourced vegetables. well-priced fresh produce selection. the variety is better than a regular grocery store. Great for traditional european recipe ingredients you can't find elsewhere such as pickled cabbage for making sarma. i haven't tried many sweets from the bakery yet but they look delicious and expertly decorated. read more

This place used to have really good pastries, but as other reviewers have stated, the quality has gone down. I purchased a mini vanilla cake today and when I went home to eat it, the frosting was good, but the cake was extremely stale/old. The cake layers were also significantly different colors. One was way more yellow than the other. I also purchased a large cake for someone as a gift, so I hope that one is fresh and nor stale. I will not be purchasing pastries from here anymore because I can't trust that they'll be fresh. read more

I've driven by Max's so many times, but finally stopped in. I was floored by their great produce prices. Everything was super fresh and they had a good selection. We had fun checking out all of the "new to us" candy and treats, too! The market is fairly small, but is laid out well and traffic seems to flow. It was very clean and overall the staff seemed very friendly. read more

Been coming to this place for a very long time. They've doubled their space which is a great thing but then parking is very limited due to the laundry mat traffic next door. I'm seriously in love! The produce was amazing, fresh, and inexpensive....forget you "regular grocery store chain"! Max's is my new place.... Honestly, I didn't stray from the couple of aisles that were only produce, because that is what I was in search of on my visit. I didn't know what to expect when I walked in, and grabbed only a hand held basket. By the time I was lugging all of my goods to the check out, I was worried what my total would be so I didn't look at anything else... Seriously, I paid $24 for what I had...I was beyond atingle!! I'll start by saying my husband is Macedonian. I've been in the family for 13 years. I know what things are!!! Today I was in the area so I decided to stop in and get him some Burek and his dad toowoomba. I got up to the counter and a young girl ask how she could help, I asked for a whole meat burek. I asked her to cut it and that's when the older lady making boxes got snarky and rude. She has the hugest attitude I'm really surprised I didn't turn and walk out!! She goes well do you want 4 or 6 slices, I was like well usually it's like what 4? Maybe any other time I've gotten it, it's been 4. Anyways, it was not cut, or maybe it was and she thought she did but it was not cut through. Anyways, the younger girl comes back and asks if I need anything else, I ask for some toowoomba. My father in law loves that sugary stuff. Again the older lady said we don't have any. I was like oh ok. Well I'd like something sweet because I had planned on stopping by my in-laws to give my father in law some lunch. I walked over and at the end of the case was toowoomba. I was like can I get 4 of those. Felt like an inconvenience for sure. She gave me the plastic take home box and they were butchered in the container. So disappointed!!! Now- I will say, I am probably the whitest of white girls walking in there but I'm a PAYING customer. The oldest lady was way too rude, way too snarky!! I will not come back or if I do.. First visit on a recommendation. The store was clean and tidy. Sadly, though, my cheese purchases had to be tossed. While unpacking my purchases I noticed the plastic seal on the corner of the feta container was broken. It was filled with broken bits and pieces rather than the typical chunk and the cheese was rancid. The Spanish cheese smelled and tasted like it was processed and packaged by a fish monger. Very disappointed. These are two products we purchase regularly so we know what to expect in packaging and flavor. read more

This store has been greatly expanded recently and traffic flow has improved. It is still vastly crowded at peak hours but there is definitely more room at the registers and bakery now. The prices for produce are excellent, although sometimes the produce can be past it's peak. For example, the tomatoes were not at their prime today and I choose not to purchase any. However, the cucumbers, green onions and kiwis were excellent and much cheaper then at a traditional chain grocery store. They also stock a nice variety of imported soaps and toiletries behind a new and spacious service center desk. I think this expansion is an improvement and I wish them success! read more

I hate this store because: a) they don't let me buy with my credit card less then $10.WTF! Why someone is forced to spend more then $10? b) the cashiers and the dessert girl were so mean! c) I bought eclair and the cashier stole it, she didn't put in my bag!!! WTF! I paid for it, I realized after got home my eclair wasn't in the bag!!! d) I will never go back at these bustards! Period. Oh, I forgot people watch your expire date on all packaged products because I found a bunch that had expired date over a month or so! This place unfortunately like most import stores us not up to par. Check expiration dates on the merchandise. I picked up a package of cheese and it expired a year ago, that's just nasty. I purchased burek from them meat and a cheese one, i get home and there both meat. I don't care for the meat i like the cheese( which in actuality isn't even cheese it's urda, big difference for those who know) so i call and let them know and the owner gives me a hard time. Go up to the counter, and see the display case by the cash register. In it, you will usually see Cheese and Meat Bureks. Occasionally, you will see Spinach Bureks. Imagine a spinach pie but with meat, or cheese, or spinach. That's what they taste like. And they are CHEAP! Less than $5 for more than enough for one lunch. My husband sometimes gets other stuff here, like the baklava swimming in the honey sauce. That's all we really get here, but it keeps us coming back! read more

When you purchase processed food make sure ALWAYS check the date of expiration! A few time went to buy baking soda and noticed the date expired. I told the owner about it and he just waved his head. Next week visited again and make sure if they removed the items and guess what? No way, the items were still there and I complained again and told him i will never go again. Today I came here with my mom and we love how we can find things from our culture. As we were getting our egg plants an older man around 70 was eating a tangerine which it's common to see people trying things. He mistakenly threw the peel into a box which he thought was the garbage. Lume(likes to go by her fake name Linda though) who is a worker picked up the peel and started yelling at the man and completely embarrassed him Infront of atleast 10 people. She told him that he ruined the eggplants and said "did you get permission from me to eat that tangerine" and continued to whine after he apologized and said he thought it was a garbage. We were in shock and a worker even agreed that she had quite the attitude. We later asked for the manager and before we even had to say her name he knew who were talking about. Everytime I go there I enjoy it so much. I've never met any other rude worker there and usually everyone is kind. They have really great food to buy and I was stunned to see her working there in such a friendly environment when clearly she may be the farthest from friendly. Sorry "Linda" maybe have more respect to a paying customer. read more
