Over the next month, I will review IVL everywhere I possibly can, and THANK GOD I chose them. In my situation, they saved me from daily tears and total infuriation. This should have been a cut and dry, clear, intelligent, one and done, professional move from Ohio to SC ... that is now going on for months to come - not due to IVL! In my absence due to the 2026 Winter Storm and a disabling spine injury as a senior - during my possesion time, the new buyer and his agent who are very nice - and I even sent gifts to be polite rather than saying PLEASE GET OUT AND STOP, the new owner and buyer were in the house going through everything. I don't know the buyer and his real estate agent, and they got in all month and started sorting through every drawer, closet, room, everything ... even asked for expensive sentimental items (WHO DOES THAT?) and the new owner and agent GOT sentimental and valuable items of my deceased parents I adored, told IVL to not take certain things, etc., and I should have had the police accompany them; yet, who thinks that way? I lost a lot; yet, IVL was fabulous in a very tough time for me. Everyone from the first ladies on the phone to the managers of each area, they were professional, patient, kind, understanding, and so helpful. They even spent a lot of money to return in a few weeks with that huge truck - and TRY to get the rest of my belongings they were illegally told by the real estate agent and buyer to not take - even antiques ... and my final birthday present from my parents before they died. IVL carefully transported what belongings they got to 4 large climate controlled storage rooms and a few pieces to my house as asked. Having not been involved in family moves coast to coast, I still knew buyers and agents were never in our homes like this situation. This was a disaster with which I'll have to deal for months to come; yet, IVL was so exceptional, they truly eased the pain and frustration. IVL did everything perfectly and went above and beyond having been put in an odd situation, and they even offered to help me get some of my things down from the storage rooms when I can get to them. I am so appreciative of not just the professionalism of IVL, but the fact that they all were genuinely good people put in a bizarre situation. Worst experience for any service, ever. I would leave negative stars if I could. This is a small carrier, they have 14 trucks & 12 trailers per the FMSCA. Other well known interstate movers have 100s. They over promise up front, then just not deliver after pick up, with basically zero communication. I was told it could take 2-21 days, after the First Available Delivery Date (FADD), to deliver our belongings, but typically takes less than 10 days. They are mandated by the FMSCA to take no more than 30 calendar days to deliver your goods. My FADD was May 26th, its now June 27th and I've yet to receive my delivery or receive any proof its been picked up or on its way. Response time by phone is zero, response via email is measured in days, if they respond at all. I've received only three email updates since they picked up my stuff 36 days ago. The first two updates stating my stuff was being picked up were essentially false, maybe even lies. The third email was them admitting they've exceeded the maximum timeframe, offering a $50/day discount every day until my stuff arrives, but still no proof its in route or been picked up. Considering it will likely never show up, I guess it will end up being free. Lawyers will likely be involved within a few days here. After they packed and loaded up my things into the truck, they took the second round of payment. Magically, the price went up over $2400. It took over an hour, several calls/emails, until I could get a hold of someone to verify the original cost in the binding estimate. They made it sound like a "mistake", when I think this was a tactic to scam you out of extra money once everything is already packed up. Also, the only accepted forms of payments are cash, money order or Zelle - none of which can be charged back or disputed once they have your things and never deliver. A bunch of dishonest crooks who will not respond to your emails, let all calls go to their voicemails, then never call you back. read more

I would strongly caution anyone considering International Van Lines based on our experience. The sales process started off great. Justin, our primary contact (also the owner...should have been a red flag...considering the owner is taking sales calls on a weekend) was extremely responsive while we were obtaining quotes and discussing our move. Unfortunately, that changed dramatically once our deposit was paid. It felt like once they had our money, Justin became completely MIA. Our original packing and pickup date was scheduled for June 7, but the day before the move we were notified it would be delayed until June 8 between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. We accepted the change because we had no choice. Our lease was ending, and we had to be out of our home on time. June 8 arrived, and no movers showed up. By noon, we still had not received any communication. We repeatedly called, emailed, and texted Justin and the company requesting an update. The same person who had been so responsive during the sales process was suddenly impossible to reach. We received no meaningful communication from management during one of the most stressful days of our move. Eventually, the assigned driver called and informed us that the truck had broken down and was being repaired. He explained there was no guarantee the truck would be fixed that day and asked if we could postpone the move until June 9. That simply wasn't possible. Our lease was ending, and we had to completely vacate our three-bedroom home. Waiting another day would have created significant financial and logistical problems. After hours of trying unsuccessfully to reach the company, we had no choice but to hire another moving company that could step in the same day and complete the move. Only after we formally canceled our services and requested a refund did someone from International Van Lines finally contact us. We were then told a crew was supposedly "45 minutes away". This was extremely frustrating because no moving truck or crew ever arrived at our home. The biggest issue wasn't simply the delay. It was the complete lack of communication and accountability during a time-sensitive move. When you're moving your entire household across state lines, you need a company that communicates honestly and follows through on its commitments. Our experience was stressful, disappointing, and ultimately forced us to pay another moving company to complete the job. If you're considering International Van Lines, I encourage you to carefully evaluate whether you're comfortable paying a substantial deposit before services are actually performed. Our experience was that communication was excellent before payment, but once the deposit was received, it became extremely difficult to get timely responses when we needed them most. I was provided a quote with international van lines for a cross state move and scheduled a date with the next day being the back up date. The guy that provided that quote was responsive and available. Then as the move date approached, I didn't hear anything about when the movers were coming. Eventually, they confirmed the night before that they would be coming on 6/13 between 2-5pm. I received this confirmation through phone call, voicemail, and email. They never showed up. I called the guy who provided the quote, the coordinator, the movers, the IVL phone number online, all multiple times, and even the "emergency line" that they provided, and NO ONE picked up. Ended up having to get a Uhaul that evening and loading it up after we were already exhausted from packing because we thought we were scammed. We had an extremely disappointing experience with International Van Lines during our move from Florida to Oregon. Unfortunately, thousands of dollars worth of our belongings were damaged, lost, or never returned. Our shipment arrived weeks later than originally promised, and when it did, many items were either broken or missing entirely -- including two damaged beds, missing electronic cords and devices, a missing sleeping bags, mat, dresser mirror, cooler, and numerous other badly damaged household items that we had to end up replacing. It was shocking to see the condition of our goods after trusting a full-service moving company with everything we owned. To make matters worse, we found all our home contents had been "on-sold" during transit, and there has been no meaningful accountability or resolution. We spent hours documenting everything through their insurance portal, only to be offered a reimbursement of approximately $165 far from what was lost and damaged. Having moved cross-country before (and even internationally) without issue, this experience was incredibly disappointing and stressful. I had a contract to move a couch and a few other items from Texas to Illinois. I did not get a bargain, so I paid a lot of money. I took the option to have my belongings delivered at 30 days. When the delivery date approached I was notified the delivery would be within a window of a few days after the agreed upon date. The window included the weekend. On Saturday afternoon I was informed that my shipment would cost an extra $400. The reasons kept changing. One minute it was no trucks are allowed on my street, next it was not sufficient turning radius, then too many parked cars on my street, then too many trees. I have lived on this street for 34 years. I moved here with a large truck, my kids moved out with large trucks and I see large moving trucks on my street for my neighbors. My spouse called the dispatcher and negotiated the bogus charge to $150. When the "shuttle" truck showed up and refused to deliver my spouse called our local police. The police helped up negotiate the shakedown to $75. They forgot half of the items in the big rig and had to drive 40 miles to retrieve them. They broke a lamp. I moved from Wisconsin to Florida early this year. The movers did a decent job, however I had some damage to some items. First issue, they barely cover damage incurred from the move. The amount I received won't even cover getting a new TV stand which was damaged. My TV Stand isn't that expensive either. For over $4,000 dollars for the cost of moving, I should at least be able to get better reimbursement. Second, they use a 3rd party for claims from damage. The 3rd party they use is awful. It takes forever to hear anything from them. Their website and links they send never work. Then for the final acceptance of the claim you have to get the document notarized. Really! So now I have to go find a company that will notarize the document for the claim which is a merely $140. Would not recommend using IVL if you need to move. read more

We moved from Whidbey Island, Washington, USA, to just outside Paris, France. IVL offered what seemed like the best deal compared to other similar companies, and I appreciated the clear, open communication I had with staff on the US side. Working with them, I got an accurate quote, fixed a date for the packing-up and move-out, and a fairly accurate ballpark of when to expect our boxes to arrive in France (about 6 weeks from when the ship left port, which ended up being almost 12 weeks from our initial move-out day). Moving internationally is awful. There's just no way to make it actually easy, without paying much more money than anyone writing reviews on Yelp is likely to have. However, the main issue was that IVL chose to work with a European partner - Schmidt Global Relocations - who really did not do well by us. The communication was unclear, they charged us 300 euros extra for a "special shuttle" because their enormous semi-truck couldn't fit into our apartment building's generous parking area, and in the end their movers arrived at nearly midnight on the scheduled day, and were physically unable to carry 8 of our 32 boxes up the stairs - that was with my husband carrying up about 10 of them himself. So, in short, we did not get the service we had expected and paid for. We asked for some compensation, at least for the moving we did ourselves, but nothing ever came of it. In addition, we requested insurance on our shipment, which had a total value of about $16,000. Several special items were totally broken on arrival - a crystal glass, and some china. However, it had been unclear that the insurance deductible was $2000, so we didn't receive a penny back, even though the damage was about $400 worth. Don't bother with the insurance unless you're shipping a car or something, because it would take a disaster to break enough of your items to get any money back. If you're moving abroad, you have to hire somebody. I bet you could do worse than International Van Lines, but I hope you could also do better. read more

They try to trick you about estimates not being accurate until they see all the items and about not items not included in the original quote, but the Math doesnt add up. Truth is they make up numbers because it's impossible to accurately measure the items volume. They broke over $3000 of items during the move and all they offer was $0.60c per item pound that would only result in a couple of bucks. Stay away. read more

Avoid This Company - Here's Why My wife and I recently moved coast to coast and unfortunately chose International Van Lines (IVL). We compared quotes from Mayflower, United, and IVL. IVL looked appealing: lowest price, flashy Forbes ranking, and a smooth-talking sales rep. Those were the first red flags we missed. 1. Poor Communication As our move date approached, we updated our inventory and emailed our account manager multiple times. Silence. Only after chasing our sales rep did we finally get a response. This lack of communication continued throughout the process. 2. Moving Day Surprises A crew of four arrived in a rented Enterprise truck. To their credit, they wrapped and loaded everything quickly. But the paperwork had hidden pitfalls: Insurance: The foreman preselected the cheapest coverage (60¢/lb) without explaining alternatives. Delivery window: The contract allowed 2-21 business days from the "first available delivery date." That's nearly a full month -- and exactly how long we waited. They also increased our cost by $1,500, claiming we exceeded the estimate. If we refused, we would lose our $1,500 deposit. 3. The Waiting Game For weeks, IVL gave no updates on where our belongings were. Only after persistent daily calls at the one-month mark did they admit our items were "finally being loaded for transport." It's unsettling not knowing where your entire household is for that long. 4. Delivery One week later, two subcontractors arrived with a semi-truck. Thankfully, they were professional, quick, and -- to our relief -- everything arrived more or less in the condition we had left. This was the only positive part of the entire ordeal. 5. The Bigger Issue - IVL's Business Model Here's what became clear: IVL is not a mover. They are a broker. Their model appears to be: --Lowball the quote to hook customers. --Collect a nonrefundable deposit. --Subcontract to local movers, who then increase the price at pickup. --Store belongings in a warehouse until they find a cheap carrier to deliver. --Meanwhile, IVL pockets a large portion of the money and disappears on communication. This explains why so many reviews report damage, theft, and delays. Notice also: they have glowing Forbes/SEO mentions but no Google reviews, while Yelp and BBB are full of warnings. Bottom Line IVL is a broker with shady practices, poor communication, and no customer-first mindset. Avoid. Let me start by saying two things: my stuff arrived on time, and nothing was severely damaged (just a few small scratches--no big deal). I now realize this is a minor miracle for this company, so I can't complain too much. BUT that does not mean I would ever use, or recommend, this company again. They're highly rated on TrustPilot, but I honestly can't see why. Here are the issues I had: 1) Horrendous customer service. I don't use that term as hyperbole. I booked my truck months in advance, which meant I had to update my inventory a few times. My "account manager" simply ignored my emails. I'm not the type to pester someone with 3-4 follow-ups. If I'm a paying customer, I expect a response to my first email. I shouldn't have to send multiple fucking messages to get a simple answer about inventory changes. When I finally called and requested a new account manager, the one assigned to me had the nerve to say, "I'm sorry you didn't see my emails." (She never emailed me back at all.) Normally, I'm not petty enough to send receipts, but this time I did. Just atrocious customer service. 2) Bait-and-switch pros. The moving specialist told me, word for word: "We pride ourselves on having no hidden fees." That was a lie. Of course, there were hidden fees. Elevator fee, long-carry fee, stair fee, bulky item fee, etc. And if your location can't accommodate a full 70-foot 18-wheeler semi-truck, they tack on another $600 for shuttle services. Something you should know before booking. 3) Payments. This was the most asinine part. They require three deposits: one when you book, one at pickup, and one at delivery. Fine. But here's what they don't tell you up front (they hide it in the email after you've already booked and paid the first deposit): they do not accept credit cards for pickup and delivery, only for the initial booking deposit. Makes no sense. When I asked why, the response was, "Company policy." So my first deposit was by credit card, my second via PayPal, and my third via Venmo. Fun, right? I confirmed with them three times, at pickup and at delivery, that I would be using the same credit card (through PayPal) that I paid my deposit with. They confirmed. When my stuff arrived, surprise: no PayPal accepted. This tells me they've racked up so many credit card disputes over their shady charges that they've switched to cash-only policies. I'm not carrying around 3k in cash just to pay these clowns. Again, I'll stress: they delivered on time, and nothing was severely damaged. But everything else was about as fun as getting hit by a car. Find another company. read more

We signed a moving contract with them to move from Phoenix AZ to a town in Maine. They have had our items for 22 days and during that time it's been incredibly hard to get ahold of them, they were unable to give us an estimation of time when we could expect our items, we got less than 24 hours notice when the driver would be arriving, and upon arrival the driver said that we would need to help unload our items since he wasn't able to get help. The first thing to know about International Van Lines is that they are a broker. They contract with independent operators to pack and move your goods. That said, the staff that they hired for me were very competent. I was happy with the way that my furniture was packed, with the exception of a couple of lamps that were put into a wicker clothes basket without any padding between the lamps, so there was minor damage as the lamps rubbed against each other. So it's worth watching the packing. The problem I have with IVL is the scheduling. Be advised that the dates for pickup and delivery are flexible (for them). The movers arrived at my house a day early, without much notice of the change. So the last bit of my packing activity was rushed and some only completed in the morning of the move. Delivery was more problematic. My delivery date was 12/15. That date wasn't met. Their rules are spelled out, so pay attention to the paperwork. Delivery can be delayed by up to 21 days. My condo association needed 3 days notice for a move in, and use of the elevator needed to be reserved. I asked for 3 days notice, but received a call from the driver at 3pm on Friday 12/19 that the delivery would be on Monday, after the goods had been picked up and he had driven 150 miles. That really complicated things. Also be aware that they pack multiple shipments in a 70' truck, which can't navigate all streets in a big city. If that's the case, there's an extra $1000 charge to transfer your goods to a smaller truck. Being able to have your goods placed in storage by IVL is a convenience, but be aware that they charge a premium for this service. Their charges are roughly double what Extra Space Storage charges. The advantage of having IVL provide storage is that the moving insurance will cover the goods while in storage. If you have your goods delivered by them to a storage facility, your moving insurance coverage probably stops at the time of delivery. As I said, I was happy with the performance of the staff IVL hired. But because of the scheduling problems, I have to go with 3 stars. read more

I would not recommend this business for a cross-country move. I chose them based on great ratings on their website, their winning of awards for customer service, and the friendly and efficient staff in setting up the move. On the day of the move, a truck pulled up that did not have any IVL signs on it. The company was American Knights Moving and Storage. I was not told that IVL was acting as a broker and subbing out the move to another company. Although initially concerned, it appeared that the movers were experienced and were packing things well. However, it turned out that it was mainly the lead mover (who we watched pack the kitchen) that did a good job. There were many other boxes packed very haphazardly with little regard to the contents being packed. Some boxes had breakables with very little or no packing material for protection. As a result we had a number of valuable things broken, some of them one-of-a-kind items and some with sentimental value. My belongings were transferred to a warehouse in Houston prior to delivery. The handling of belongings was not done well. There were many boxes marked "Fragile" that had been crushed, along with some furniture that was broken or damaged. It took over 3 weeks the receive my belongings at the new location after my pickup date. Scheduled delivery dates were delayed due to scheduling or maintenance issues with the truck. On the day of delivery, a different subcontracted driver brought the belongings, and he did not arrive until 1:30PM. He hired local people to unload, only one of which had significant moving experience. A piano was included in the move, and none of the crew was aware of it. They did not have the experience or equipment needed to move it properly. There was a secondary move (which I paid for) included in my shipment for some of my daughter's belongings. Because it was getting late by the time my belongings were unloaded (about 8PM), the movers proceeded to my daughter's house without unwrapping and reassembling my furniture (which I also paid for). I tried to have them arrange for another crew to come back and finish the job, but could never make it happen. So I completed the unwrapping and reassembly myself. Also, there was not enough room on the truck for all of my belongings because they had loaded someone else's belongings on the front of the trailer. I understand that they are trying to maximize the use of their trucks, but it required them to send the remainder on another truck a couple of days later. And some remaining items were missing. Communication with IVL was also difficult. Often my emails were not responded to and/or went to their spam folders. So I had to make multiple attempts to contact them. Payment is complicated with having to pay for one third up front, one third at pickup (only cashiers check, cash, or money order), and one third at delivery (also only cashiers check, cash, or money order). After pickup, I was shown that my shipment was greater than originally estimated. I had no problem with that and sent them a cashiers check for the overage prior to delivery. However, that was not communicated to the delivery people as they thought I still owed that amount at delivery. It was ultimately resolved satisfactorily, but was just an indicator of some problems with communications. An all time bad experience. I was moving cross-country, and settled on IVL. I provided them with a list of what we had. The day of the move, they increased the cost by 50% based on what they saw, and didn't give me a chance to refute it. I didn't really have much of a choice at the time, so I just went ahead with it. When I got the final copies of the materials, I saw that they had double counted many items. Others were not actually packed and were left behind. Others still, including a $900 appliance, arrived broken. When I contacted them about these claims, they said they'd have to review them before a certain window, but didn't get back to me until that window had closed. Customer service is rude, your stuff will arrive broken, boxes busted and their whole "it could be 2 - 21 days" magic show is beyond annoying. The drop off people were incredibly scammy and gross, asking me to Zelle the long carry charge directly to them (no way), asking "where's your boyfriend" and taking 3 hours to move in 16 boxes, a couch and a dresser. My TV was broken, lots of things were dented and overall it was a terrible experience. I found this company through Forbes ratings, which I am now convinced they paid for.... God I wish I had looked at Yelp reviews before hiring this horrific company. I looked at Google reviews, which I suspect that they manipulate, because there is NO WAY this company deserves anything more than 1-2 stars. Their customer service is HORRIFIC. I mean awful. I mean "9th ring of hell" bad. Here's how my move has gone so far: 1) They set the hook nicely, with good responsiveness up until I paid them. EVERYTHING has been downhill from there. We'll call this guy "A$$hole #1." 2) They sent 4 of the scrawniest movers I have ever seen. It should be no surprise that these guys took ALL DAY to pack the van. 3) They did at least $500 in damage to our rental house, breaking a ceiling fan. They also got wood glue on the floor and then tracked that wood glue with their feet all over the floor, leaving wood-glue-footprints that were basically impossible to remove. Now... WHY were they using wood glue? What did they break and try to hide? 4) AFTER doing hundreds of dollars in damage, they engaged in a nice bit of extortion: they had already loaded the entire van. It was late in the evening, and we were literally ready to leave that house forever and drive 1200 miles to our new home. They acknowledged the damage, and then forced me to sign a paper absolving them of any responsibility for the damage they had caused, and if I refused to sign it, then they said that they were going to remove everything from the truck and leave me stranded. 5) They asked me for my "first available deliver date." I asked if October 1st would work, and they said yes, that was totally reasonable (that gave them 2.5 WEEKS for a 1200-mile move). They rushed me through signing a large, multi-page online contract & waiver, multiple different documents. 6) I contacted the supposed "delivery coordinator" (we'll call him "A$$hole #2") on September 23rd to confirm that we would be available for an October 1st move-in. This gave them OVER A WEEK to plan. This is when everything REALLY went to sh**. 7) They responded the next day saying "Please keep in mind that delivery can take from 2 to 14 up to 21 business days after the requested date." THREE F'ING WEEKS! THEY HAVE A DELIVERY WINDOW OF 3 F'ING WEEKS! 8) I emailed immediately to say that wasn't acceptable. I called A$$hole #2 on Sep 25, Sept 26 and today, Sep 29th. NO ANSWER EVER. Completely ignored my calls. I called the guy who was our point of contact before they had my money (A$$hole #1) on Sep 24, Sep 25, Sep 26 and Sep 29th. NO ANSWER EVER. Completely ignored my calls. I texted A$$hole #1 on Sep 26, Sep 27 and Sep 29. NO ANSWER EVER. 9) A**hole #2 sent me an email (refused to answer calls) on Thursday of last week to say nothing other than that he would give more information NEXT WEEK (this week). I asked for an earlier update, which of course he did not provide. He emailed me today (Sep 29th, 2 days before we wanted the delivery to happen) to tell me that the delivery was STILL IN CALIFORNIA (we're moving to Washington), over 2 weeks after it was picked up in California, and that they were "planning to load your items by the end of this week or over the weekend." Mind you, the targeted delivery date was 2.5 weeks AFTER pick-up, and that would be 2 days from now. These A$$holes aren't even going to put it on a damn truck until almost a week from now, and they provide ZERO information about how long it will take to deliver! 10) I text and call A$$hole #1. No answer, of course, forwarded to voicemail. I call A$$hole #2. No answer, of course, forwarded to voicemail. I call their national support line. No answer, of course, forwarded to voicemail. 11) Somebody finally calls me claiming to be my case manager (never heard from this person before), and basically tells me that I should have read the fine print and that I can go F myself, they don't really care, and it's my fault for not reading the fine print on the contract that they rushed me to sign while extorting me and threatening to take my stuff off their truck. (That is not exactly what they said, but that was the gist of the conversation, it was the pretty obvious subtext and they might as well have just come out and said it.) I literally scheduled a new job to start around this move. I scheduled the closing on my new house around this move. I scheduled work on my new house around this move. I was very much hoping to have a little R&R before starting my new job... and that is now NOT going to happen because I made the mistake of hiring the worst moving company that I have EVER worked with... and I have moved over a dozen times in my life, including cross-country! Few concerns: We did not receive updates, despite being promised so by IVL. IVL explicitly told us in their initial email that we should not reach out to them for updates, because they would provide a message every time our van moved to the next stage. After not hearing anything for over 10 days since their initial update, we called and asked for an update, We got a response a few days later that our van was actually at the very last stage, and would be arriving in 2-4 days, Then, the next day, we were giving less than 24 hours notice that our van would arrive, giving us little time to prepare to receive them at our home. While we were waiting for our stuff, I got a call from their accounting department saying I hadn't paid. I had in fact paid, via Zelle, to the email address they gave me. When I told the accounting person this, they asked if I could cancel that payment. They made me very concerned that I had been scammed out of thousands of dollars. Their accounting department should have communicated with the movers or the coordinator before calling me and telling me I hadn't paid. After 16 days from our move-in date, we finally received our stuff. Multiple items were damaged, and a 3x2x2 ft item was entirely missing. I've asked for IVL to find this, but they were unable to find my lost item. Furthermore, they delivered a few small items to me that belong to someone else. Now, IVL is asking me to go out of my way to ship those items. IVL should be sending a person to pick those items up from me. It should not be my responsibility to make sure those items get to their owner. Overall, we had a very frustrating and stressful experience with IVL. Do NOT believe the A+ rating on BBB. read more

Early last week (after reading the WONDERFUL reviews) I called IVL for a quote. My move would be from Miami to Panama. I spoke with "Dave". Not to be confused with "David" as Dave said. I asked Dave for a quote. He told me he would prepare a quote by Thursday that week, latest Monday of the following week. On Monday I called Dave to ask if the quote was ready, as per his own timeline. " no, I have been busy. I will have the quote ready by close of business today Monday" I am writing this on Thursday; 3 days after Dave's promise. This review is my waiving the RED FLAG! If they cant keep small promises, they will not keep big promises! The second red flag I got from Dave is his response when I asked him 2 questions: 1) my Sleep Number Bed i asked Dave if the folks in panama would be able to assemble my Sleep Number Bed. DAVES response: there is no way for us to know that. We hire local delivery guys. 2) second red flag: Dave never asked me for an inventory in order to put together his quote. I asked him about this. DAVES response, all I need for a quote is that you said 1 bedroom apartment. What crap is that? Horrible company. They told me that the transfer time would be five to ten days, but what that really meant was that it would be five to ten days to a holding facility. After they picked up our items, they said it could take another 21 business days in addition to the original 10, and it did take them another 20 business days. I gave an incredibly detailed inventory and was told the price was locked in but would have to pay more if we added additional items. When they came to pick up our items, the mover said my inventory matched his perfectly but that it still might not fit and I would have to pay more if it didn't fit. I pushed back hard, and they amazingly made it fit. Then when they came to deliver, they had transferred our stuff to a semi-truck. They said they might not be able to deliver it without moving it back to a smaller truck and we would have to pay more. I threatened making a Better Business Bureau complaint, and again they made it work. They damaged a few items pretty badly. The process for claiming damages is arduous and with very little payment. I recommend you stay far away from this company. They talk a good talk but don't deliver acceptable service. The sales lady went from sweet as pie to ugly the moment I voiced a complaint. read more

Service requested: Ship 4 pallets that did not fit in 1st 40 - foot container of household goods, to Ecuador for a returning Ecuadorian Citizen. International Van Lines (IVL) provide a quote for shipment of the 4 pallets which we excepted. Once we had paid for the shipment and the pallets had been moved from NC to FL, IVL refused to ship the pallets and required us to pay additional fees to have our 4 pallets returned. Customer service was atrocious. David Geraldo (relocation specialist) and Jason Morgan were rude and disrespectful and should never be permitted to interact with any customers. Neither could provide a reason for not completing the contracted shipment that I had paid for. Will never use this company for anything again and will be pursuing legal action for breach of contract. read more

I was quoted a binding estimate of $4,436. After I submitted my final inventory on July 4, they sent me an updated quote of $5,111 that same day. Then, on the day of the move, I was suddenly told the cost would be $6,851, then reduced to $6,071, with a warning it might go as high as $7,000. My inventory never changed after the final update. When I raised concerns, the manager instructed the movers to leave -- I never canceled. Nothing was packed, loaded, or transported, but they still kept my $1,772 deposit. BEWARE OF THESE MOVERS!!! We recently moved cross country from California to North Carolina. We researched and spoke with 3 companies, based on ratings and reviews, and eventually selected International Van Lines (IVL). It's true what people say about reviews - are they real or are they bots? I can only say that our experience with IVL was a horror show. It was the move from hell! When I initiated the contract, their communication was virtually instantaneous. After I paid my deposit, the communication was virtually non-existent. It would take days or even a week before anyone got back to me. And that was before we even moved. The chaos started the day the movers came to load up our household goods. First, the truck arrived late, and they had a hand-painted cardboard sign on the door of cab that said "IVL". Clearly not IVL movers but a third party. As they neared the end of loading up, they realized the truck they brought wasn't big enough, so they had to go get another one. They also ran out of tags for all our goods and had to handwrite on the ones remaining. The home office had miscalculated the size truck that was needed. Not a good sign and it turned out to be a huge when it came to lost items. Then it got worse. I had notified IVL of our move-in date a full 38 days before the actual move-in date! They noted it and then for a month I never heard a word. I sent emails and voice mails and texts for over 2 weeks before someone got back to me saying "Your move is still 2 weeks away, so you won't hear from us until a few days before. Emails will not be answered until then." Two days before the delivery date I called and emailed again. Crickets. Finally on the day of the scheduled move, I called asking the ETA of the movers. The person I spoke to said there would not be a delivery for us that day. I asked when we can expect delivery but she couldn't answer. I then asked, "Do you even know where our stuff is?" She paused (not a good sign) and said, "I will have to get back to you". She did, about an hour later. She told me our goods were still in California and nothing had been done to initiate the move. We were stunned! We then asked when we could expect delivery and she could not tell us. Two weeks after the scheduled delivery date our goods finally arrived. Someone at IVL said they were allowed to take up to 2-21 days to deliver. I said that's fine, but you had 38 days to get it done and now you tell us you are going to add another 2-21 days onto the delivery date! But that wasn't the end of this IVL mess. The driver showed up with the truck with our goods, but he was alone and said we might have to wait until the next day so he could get some help. He then told us he was placing an ad on Craig's List to try and get people to help him to unload. At that point, I notified IVL's dispatcher and told him, "What the hell kind of organization are you running?" To date he has not replied. Maybe he doesn't know how or what to say. Once we finished unpacking, we were missing 7 items and had numerous items broken. But that was bound to happen. Since they miscalculated the size of the truck and the number of labels for each of our items, it was a no brainer that the ones they had to hand write on were probably never going to reach us. Standing in our driveway on moving day watching these guys scramble, we knew it would be a miracle if all our goods arrived. And they didn't. All we can say to those of you who may be considering IVL for your move - DON'T!!! There are other companies out there that must be better. The IVL website claims they are recommended by Forbes. Maybe they are, but who really knows? Is it a true review or was it purchased? I can't believe a company like Forbes would ever endorse a company like International Van Lines if they knew what a terrible company it is. IVL gets an "F" for service, communication, honesty, and commitments. If you do hire IVL for your move, you do so at your own risk. You have been forewarned!!! read more

International Van Lines is who I used for my move across the country. I strongly recommend NEVER using their services!! The front end service and movering team in WA was great. The delivery team in VA was horrific! I have pages of documentation and photos of how carelessly they treated my things. The worst is the damage they did to my furniture including drilling holes in an antique bed frame that were in some cases right next to the existing holes which were clearly marked by the Seattle moving team!! I reached out immediately to the company asking them to send a local team back out to finish the service work I had paid for...this would have been a couple of hours of work and then a non issue. They did not do so. After trying for months to get resolution with the company - I finally filed a claim with Bank of America for the portion of the move I put on my credit card. (Note: the majority of the move costs IVL required to be paid in cash). The van lines refused to process my claim thru their claim service unless I withdrew my credit card claim - which was very unprofessional! Do not trust good reviews on this company. IVL shipped my king sized mattress from Charlotte to Houston strapped to the OUTSIDE of the truck. There were other issues as well, but that sums it up best. Simply the worst experience--it was beyond dreadful. Their packing team, which did not seem to be professional packers, broke numerous items as a result of extreme carelessness. We experienced nothing but poor communication and disregard after the sale. It was incredibly disheartening but almost a year later, they haven't helped us at all.
