I was quoted a binding estimate of $4,436. After I submitted my final inventory on July 4, they sent me an updated quote of $5,111 that same day. Then, on the day of the move, I was suddenly told the cost would be $6,851, then reduced to $6,071, with a warning it might go as high as $7,000. My inventory never changed after the final update. Horrible company. They told me that the transfer time would be five to ten days, but what that really meant was that it would be five to ten days to a holding facility. After they picked up our items, they said it could take another 21 business days in addition to the original 10, and it did take them another 20 business days. I gave an incredibly detailed inventory and was told the price was locked in but would have to pay more if we added additional items. When they came to pick up our items, the mover said my inventory matched his perfectly but that it still might not fit and I would have to pay more if it didn't fit. I pushed back hard, and they amazingly made it fit. Then when they came to deliver, they had transferred our stuff to a semi-truck. They said they might not be able to deliver it without moving it back to a smaller truck and we would have to pay more. I threatened making a Better Business Bureau complaint, and again they made it work. They damaged a few items pretty badly. The process for claiming damages is arduous and with very little payment. BEWARE OF THESE MOVERS!!! We recently moved cross country from California to North Carolina. We researched and spoke with 3 companies, based on ratings and reviews, and eventually selected International Van Lines (IVL). It's true what people say about reviews - are they real or are they bots? I can only say that our experience with IVL was a horror show. It was the move from hell! When I initiated the contract, their communication was virtually instantaneous. After I paid my deposit, the communication was virtually non-existent. It would take days or even a week before anyone got back to me. And that was before we even moved. The chaos started the day the movers came to load up our household goods. First, the truck arrived late, and they had a hand-painted cardboard sign on the door of cab that said "IVL". Clearly not IVL movers but a third party. As they neared the end of loading up, they realized the truck they brought wasn't big enough, so they had to go get another one. They also ran out of tags for all our goods and had to handwrite on the ones remaining. The home office had miscalculated the size truck that was needed. Not a good sign and it turned out to be a huge when it came to lost items. Then it got worse. I had notified IVL of our move-in date a full 38 days before the actual move-in date! They noted it and then for a month I never heard a word. I sent emails and voice mails and texts for over 2 weeks before someone got back to me saying "Your move is still 2 weeks away, so you won't hear from us until a few days before. Emails will not be answered until then." Two days before the delivery date I called and emailed again. Crickets. Finally on the day of the scheduled move, I called asking the ETA of the movers. The person I spoke to said there would not be a delivery for us that day. I asked when we can expect delivery but she couldn't answer. I then asked, "Do you even know where our stuff is?" She paused (not a good sign) and said, "I will have to get back to you". She did, about an hour later. She told me our goods were still in California and nothing had been done to initiate the move. We were stunned! We then asked when we could expect delivery and she could not tell us. Two weeks after the scheduled delivery date our goods finally arrived. Someone at IVL said they were allowed to take up to 2-21 days to deliver. I said that's fine, but you had 38 days to get it done and now you tell us you are going to add another 2-21 days onto the delivery date! But that wasn't the end of this IVL mess. The driver showed up with the truck with our goods, but he was alone and said we might have to wait until the next day so he could get some help. He then told us he was placing an ad on Craig's List to try and get people to help him to unload. At that point, I notified IVL's dispatcher and told him, "What the hell kind of organization are you running?" To date he has not replied. Maybe he doesn't know how or what to say. Once we finished unpacking, we were missing 7 items and had numerous items broken. But that was bound to happen. Since they miscalculated the size of the truck and the number of labels for each of our items, it was a no brainer that the ones they had to hand write on were probably never going to reach us. Standing in our driveway on moving day watching these guys scramble, we knew it would be a miracle if all our goods arrived. And they didn't. All we can say to those of you who may be considering IVL for your move - DON'T!!! There are other companies out there that must be better. The IVL website claims they are recommended by Forbes. Maybe they are, but who really knows? Is it a true review or was it purchased? I can't believe a company like Forbes would ever endorse a company like International Van Lines if they knew what a terrible company it is. Service requested: Ship 4 pallets that did not fit in 1st 40 - foot container of household goods, to Ecuador for a returning Ecuadorian Citizen. International Van Lines (IVL) provide a quote for shipment of the 4 pallets which we excepted. Once we had paid for the shipment and the pallets had been moved from NC to FL, IVL refused to ship the pallets and required us to pay additional fees to have our 4 pallets returned. Customer service was atrocious. David Geraldo (relocation specialist) and Jason Morgan were rude and disrespectful and should never be permitted to interact with any customers. Neither could provide a reason for not completing the contracted shipment that I had paid for. Will never use this company for anything again and will be pursuing legal action for breach of contract. read more

International Van Lines is who I used for my move across the country. I strongly recommend NEVER using their services!! The front end service and movering team in WA was great. The delivery team in VA was horrific! I have pages of documentation and photos of how carelessly they treated my things. The worst is the damage they did to my furniture including drilling holes in an antique bed frame that were in some cases right next to the existing holes which were clearly marked by the Seattle moving team!! I reached out immediately to the company asking them to send a local team back out to finish the service work I had paid for...this would have been a couple of hours of work and then a non issue. They did not do so. After trying for months to get resolution with the company - I finally filed a claim with Bank of America for the portion of the move I put on my credit card. (Note: the majority of the move costs IVL required to be paid in cash). This is by far the most unethical and incompetent company I have ever worked with. TLDR version, the sales team will lie to you about delivery times, the quoted costs are higher than competitors and then will balloon by 50% once your things are loaded, workers will try and make under the table deals with you to try and lower the 50% increase, they are unable to tell you when your things will be delivered until the day before delivery so you have no way to plan or know if you're going to be living without your stuff for close to a month. I originally was going with pods but they weren't able to get my furniture delivered the day after closing so I called IVL and they stated that it wouldn't be a problem to get it there the day after closing. they were roughly 25% more expensive but with a 2 year old and newborn I thought it was worth it to limit the time spent crammed in a hotel room. I still sent 2 pods but all of the critical items I would go with IVL. Well day of they show up and already I can feel the shadiness. Their rep immediately started in with, how this is much more than he expected, even though we did a by box inventory ahead of time, how if customers don't "take care of him" then he ensures their items don't make it on time, how our sectional took one of his guys 2 hours to take apart so that'll be extra, even though I put it together upon receiving in 10 minutes, etc etc. then at the end of the day he states it'll be an extra 50% on top of the already increased price but if I gave him $1,000 under the table he'd knock off $2,000. At this point what can you do, they have all of your items. Then I didn't hear from them in the week between pickup and closing. When I finally was able to get in touch with someone they stated oh we have no idea when it'll be delivered, it'll be between 2-21 days and we won't let you know until the day prior. They have absolutely no insight into where your items are, when they'll be delivered etc. So after spending an extra $10,000 to ensure my items were delivered on time, I now had to sit there with nothing for up to 3 weeks until they finally decided it was time. You are completely powerless during this time. They know the power dynamic and do not care at all about their customers and will hold that over your head the entire time. I am begging you do not put yourself in this situation. there is absolutely 0 redeeming qualities about this company. None of the people actually work for IVL except for the people on the phone. They bring 0 added value to the equation. In fact my extremely cheaper PODS were delivered much sooner and in much better fashion than IVL. read more

I watched the movers slam a desk into the side of a doorway and snap the legs off. It is not repairable. My buffet was also heavily damaged, however I did not witness this. Some shifty things with cost occurred, the communication was piss poor, and items arrived broken.

We received a binding quote from International Van Lines after sending them pictures of all our belongings and coordinating with them multiple times. The quote from their sales rep was for 1,714 cubic feet and was confirmed several times. Their sales person assured us that this quote was 100% accurate and, being binding, would only go down, not up. When the movers arrived on the 11th, they walked through the house with my wife while the rest of my family was in the yard. After the walkthrough, the movers wrote down 3,000 cubic feet on a piece of paper and said the new volume was now this number--an additional 1,286 cubic feet--resulting in an extra $11,574. They refused to move any of our furniture until we signed the document. Their limited English made communication nearly impossible. They also brought the wrong size truck so we were a day delayed on leaving resulting in additional cost. The move coordinator for International Van Lines said we either had to leave our things or pay. Having already given them a deposit and running out of time for other options, we had no choice but to comply. If we had been given an accurate quote, we would not have moved forward with their service. This felt like extortion and has severely impacted us financially. Once we arrived the driver was over an hour late to the scheduled delivery. Their movers were spitting on the floor and refused to build all of the furniture the original crew had disassembled. They also left certain items partially assembled and broken. We are working with them to try and recoup some of the cost but once we paid they began to become difficult to get ahold of and keep indicating they will get us an update eventually. read more

International Van Lines completed a move from Alabama to Tennessee for us in November. The pre-move process was professional; no complaints. The van arrived on time on the appointment date and loaded the van. 48 hours later the van arrived (as scheduled) and a different crew began the unloading process. That's when the trouble began. The members of the crew broke an Adirondack chair, chipped a number of pieces of furniture during the unpacking process, and lost (read stole) a hand truck. The coordinator promised a written report of the damages but disappeared without providing it. I filed a claim for the major damages through Moving Claims (an onerous process; I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy) and supplied pictures, purchase receipts, and replacement cost receipts. After several weeks, their suggest settlement was approximately 1/2 of the damages. My appeal (in effect, starting over) netted me an additional $50.00. There is no opportunity for an additional appeal. If you value your possessions, find another company. Their positive reviews must be self-generated. read more

The employees were slamming furniture, cursing and at one point got into a fight on front of my children. They trashed my house as they were packing leaving materials everywhere reminding me that they do no not clean after they pack. They told me they were all done packing and get had to be demoted that they left boxes and furniture. They extended the time packing costing me more money. When my items arrived to storage per my original order they came early in the morning of the 4th of July demanding they deliver immediately even though we had painters and contractors working in the home. They're manager threatened to recharge me the entire moving price if I did not let them in even though the early delivery mistake was at their end. He cursed me out and was yelling.i was forced to postpone work and renovations to let them in. When they arrived... most of my things were broken,beds including my children's bunk bed were put together wrong without proper screws in spite of paying their extra charge for bunk beds making the bed unsafe. They damaged chairs for tables,mislabeled boxes. Placed lawnmower with a tv. $8000 worth ofdamage. They charged me double the initial moving quote for $40,000 and offered me $1700 ( my dresser alone cost that) if I promised never to write a bad review. They tried to force me to film my thoughts on their service ( before they started packing my things) and j i politely declined bc I told them I needed to wait until the items were delivered safely to my home. They said it helped them get paid and that all customers do it. I stood firm, said no and now realize they do this to hold themselves free of the damage they inflicted. I had a deeply frustrating experience with International Van Lines. My belongings were handled with a blatant disregard for their safety and care. The company relied on multiple subcontractors, leading to a lack of accountability and consistent issues throughout the process. Delivery was significantly delayed, causing me considerable inconvenience. Despite my repeated complaints, Justin Davis did not respond to any of my concerns regarding the delays. Although one representative did their best to keep me updated, the overall customer service was appalling. No one ever addressed my complaints or offered an apology. The disregard for my situation and the overall lack of support made this experience extremely disappointing. Unfortunately, zero stars was not an option. Heed my warning, young padowans and jedi masters alike: you might be tempted to go with International Van Lines because of an illusion of savings. However, there are several things to keep in mind about these 'savings'. First, the folks that they employ neither speak nor understand English, making communication difficult, if not impossible. These individuals treated our belongings as if they were working at a dump, throwing, banging, marring, and generally being inconsiderate. If I were in their shoes, I might do the same, as I get paid either way. Second, once your deposit has been paid, it is virtually impossible to get any form of communication--phone call, email, tiktok, smoke signals--from this "business". Third, prior to moving, they will scrutinize every piece of furniture you own for the most minor incidents of wear and tear, then use that pre-existing wear and tear to justify not paying you for the copious amounts of schidt that they break. For example, they broke (1) a mirror; (2) an antique table; (3) an antique nightstand; and (4) two bookcases of ours. The antique table had a single scratch on it, which was note a priori during their inventory. It was delivered with roughly 20 scratches on it, and was nearly unrecognizable. But, you guessed it: they would not cover the damage for this piece (or any of the other pieces) of furniture because of their inventory. Fourth, this moving company actually fled our residence while leaving our refrigerator and several other items sitting on our driveway. Upon calling their driver back--you guessed it--he didn't pick up, boogeying out as if he were fleeing a crime scene. IVL's business motto is not only that the customer is always wrong, it's that we're going to be evasive and non-communicative to the point that we just bludgeon our customers into submission because, at some point, time is money. And we will simply wear them the f__k out. Channeling my inner Chief Joseph, upon working with International Van Lines, my heart was sick and sad. I cannot emphasize enough what a poor choice it is to contract this company!!!!! I wish I had read reviews before I made the mistake of hiring them. They will contract a 3rd party and place all blame on them for any damages or losses. Your art will not be safely packed; canvases will get ripped; frames will be chipped. They will lose small crucial parts of furniture, making it impossible to reassemble your furniture, causing you to replace the things you just shipped. Furniture will arrive scratched and damaged. Furniture they don't ruin with scratching, they'll bind with shipping tape, ruining the varnish. They'll crush and destroy expensive shoes. They're extremely rude: Lisa and David especially treated us like we were inconvenient children. They won't communicate crucially important information until the day of your move, causing you to have to get rid of expensive items; they won't ship liquids of any kind, or e-bikes; we had to let go of a wine library of many dozens of bottles; we're professional performers and had to let go of thousands of dollars in supplies; we're professional performers had to let two e-bikes go. The info they do communicate will be incorrect; they told us our port of call doesn't permit e-bikes, liquids, or wine; customs told us the opposite when we arrived. Our quoted price increased by many thousands of dollars. They'll recklessly pack your belongings and then on the paperwork claim your belongings were "PBO" packed by owner. I chose to use International Van Lines for my Florida-to-Michigan move because it appeared to be well-regarded and had procured an extremely favorable review from Forbes. The contract listed as my "Move Date," in boldface red font, "07/24/2025-07/25/2025." I read this to mean that the moving company would move my belongings--not simply take them from me, but move them--sometime between July 24 and July 25. The same contract did explain, in a separate section much further down, that "delivery can take anywhere from 2-21 business days from the first available delivery date that [the customer] provide[s]." I read that as explaining that the company would not have breached the contractual promise to deliver my things to me unless they did so more than 21 business days from my first available delivery date. Despite that mildly troubling sentence, however, I was induced to use International Van Lines by the contract's subsequent assurance that the company "will do everything that is possible to deliver [my] shipment on the requested date." On top of the promise to deliver my things to me within 21 business days of my requested date, that is, the company made another contractually binding promise: that it would do everything possible to deliver them to me on the requested date, and impliedly, if not on that date, as soon as possible thereafter. Monday, July 28, was our (somewhat forced) requested delivery date. That day, I expected to hear from the driver in the morning and to facilitate the delivery in the afternoon, as has typically been my experience with movers. But I heard nothing. Around 4:00 PM, I called the delivery team. No answer; I left a voicemail. I then emailed the delivery team. No answer. The next morning, I called the delivery team again; no answer, another voicemail. I then emailed my trusty Account Manager regarding my "concern[] with the lack of communication regarding the delivery." Within minutes, the delivery team emailed me back. They wrote, on the afternoon of July 29, "Your items are in staging, awaiting the next available trailer to MI. That trailer has not arrived just yet. As soon as the trailer arrives, loading takes 1-3 days, depending on the complexity of the load." I called the "Customer Service" department and sought more information, to no avail. On August 6, I sent a lengthy email to every email address I had for IVL, including the delivery team. I explained the situation and wrote, "Please consider this email my demand for a list of all the steps that your company has taken to deliver my shipment on my requested date, July 28, or as soon as possible thereafter." I never received a response. On August 10, my girlfriend called the "Customer Service" department to check on the status of our delivery. Sean--I use his name because he was one of two people from IVL who seemed interested in helping us, rather than avoiding us--explained that, lo and behold, the truck was being loaded that very moment. "Worst-case scenario," he assured us, the delivery would occur in between three and five days. The delivery did not occur until five full days had elapsed. The delivery truck driver, Indrek, arrived at around 5:45 PM on Friday, August 15: fifteen business days from my requested delivery date and twenty-two days from the date I foolishly allowed IVL to take my belongings. Indrek was friendly and professional--but he was alone. I accordingly offered to help bring my things in, and for forty-five minutes, it was I who was delivering my belongings from the moving truck into my apartment (a service for which I had paid $1,190.00 upon Indrek's arrival). After forty-five minutes, two young men arrived to assist Indrek in unwrapping my things. These two young men promptly began arguing with Indrek about the latter's ostensibly unreasonable expectation that the former work up a sweat; one of the young men complained to Indrek with abiding self-pity, "You don't have to be so forceful." My things were more or less in good condition. Two ceramic plates were shattered, and the particle board forming the back of my bookshelf was torn down the middle. (The dowel rods on which the shelves rest were also nowhere to be found, having apparently been thrown away in disassembly.) But I hardly cared: I was just relieved to have finally reacquired my belongings after three weeks and a day of uncertainty, frustration, and (not-)sleeping on air mattress. I have never felt more strongly in reviewing a business. Do not use International Van Lines. You may think that the above will not happen to you. True enough, it might not. But based on this and so many other Yelp reviews, it is incredibly likely that it will. I am an attorney with an Ivy League J.D. I do not consider myself to be easily taken for a fool. Used IVL for a move from Nebraska to Pennsylvania. As prior military, I have moved many times and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had with movers. Although not uncommon, you should be aware that IVL subcontracts the pickup and delivery, so you will be dealing with three companies IVL, the pickup company and the delivery company. The reason I mention this is because of the issues this communication chain creates. Any issues I describe herein are compounded in complication because every communication is to IVL dispatcher, who then calls the subcontractor, and then returns the call back to me. Pickup was scheduled for 8-11 a.m., they didn't actually arrive until 6:15pm (after many status updates of "be there in a couple hours") and they arrived with a full truck. They wanted to pack me, go unload their truck and then load me into the truck the next day. Packing would have easily taken until past midnight. Not accepting this, I told them to go unload and come back in the morning. I even accommodated a 6 a.m. pickup, they were punctual the next morning. On arrival, they did an estimate that was 400 ft^3 more than what I knew it to be from my prior move and higher than the IVL estimate. Ultimately, I harangued the movers until they charged me only a 100 ft^3. I will say on the positive that the movers did take care in the packing and were extra cautious with my 57" OLED TV. However, and bearing in mind that I am male and by no means hypersensitive, one of the movers made very misogynistic comments that were very unprofessional. One aspect of the experience that was highly annoying was method of payment. The way they set it up is that IVL will bill based on their estimate, you are then responsible to pay half to the pickup crew and half to the delivery crew. They only accept cashier's checks, money orders or cash. In this day and age, that is extremely inconvenient. On top of it, you will still need to pay what the pickup crew actually charges you, so, in my case, I opted to have a cashier's check and a few thousand in cash for tip and any plus up to the estimate. Not exactly ideal to have that much cash when having people you don't know come into your home. If that isn't messy enough for the payment, when the delivery occurred, they asked up-front for the payment and would not accept the cashier's check because it was made out to IVL. My things were literally in the truck outside my front door and they refused to move them until paid. In this case, it was the movers' boss that was refusing payment. So the movers are on the phone with their boss and I'm on the phone will IVL. The movers are eastern European and speaking a foreign language so I have no idea of the exchange happening with their boss. The boss wants a picture of the check, so I accommodate. Then the picture quality wasn't good enough and the boss wanted another picture. I refused. It seemed were at a stalemate. IVL tells the movers (through my phone) to accept the check, they refuse because the boss said no. Anyway, after an hour and a half of this, somewhere up the management chain at IVL, they finally talk to the mover's boss and convince him to take the check. By now it's 6:30pm when they finally start moving my stuff in. Have to give credit where credit is due, the movers had no small task as my front door leads straight to a rather narrow and steep staircase to my 2nd floor apartment. Still amazed at how they managed to muscle my couch that has two built in recliners up those stairs. My next major issue was with delivery scheduling. The way the do it is that you give them a target date and then they have 30 days to deliver. Throughout my communications with IVL, I had been clear that there was a week that I would not be available for delivery, the week of Thanksgiving. They had 3 weeks to deliver prior to that week, they didn't. Then they said because I wasn't available that week, they got to reset the delivery clock on the 30 days. Finally, with 1 day notice, I am informed that the delivery movers will be arriving the next day... 36 days after the requested delivery date. Now this may seem a trivial thing to complain about, but for three things: 1) At this point, I am living in an empty apartment with a lawn chair and an air mattress as my only furniture, 2) there was absolutely no way they were going to be able to deliver within the required 30 days (my things were still in out-of-state storage for the week of Thanksgiving), and 3) the communication from IVL was very much in a tone that they have absolute zero consideration for the customer, they have system and run like a machine and the customer does not factor into the equation. To be fair, I was so frustrated by the whole experience, I did not contact IVL afterward to challenge for some sort of remuneration. Even the couple of breakages I let slide (still can't figure how they manage to break a heavy ceramic crockpot?). In short, I would not recommend IVL. read more

I had the worst experience with IVL. I was misguided and before booking with them only found positive reviews. Turns out I should have done a little more digging. First of all they claim to not be a brokered move and have all of their own movers, but along the way everyone who showed up also somehow was representing another moving company at the same time. Even some of the "extra charge" forms I signed had conflicting information and different moving companies listed. Second, probably half my stuff arrived damaged. As professionals who I paid over $8000 for, I expected a great packing job. Instead almost every piece of furniture that they moved arrived with a dent or piece of wood missing-keep in mind it was sturdy pottery barn furniture. In addition, they refused to use my rug cover saying it wasn't necessary, only for my rug to show up soaking wet as if it had been left outside in the rain. It was unusable and had to be discarded. Luckily I moved in mostly plastic totes, but with the cardboard boxes that I did use, they also arrived damp, squished and damaged. Next, their sticker system was not ideal. Luckily my sister had just moved with a competing company and we saw how efficiently they had labeled her stuff, so in preparation I had similar labels with my phone number and info on them so we ended up tagging everything ourselves in addition to the quarter size number sticker they placed. I believe this is the only reason I didn't loose more things in the move. Lastly, their customer service is terrible. They were unwilling to work with my timeline and made it very difficult to plan and schedule an appropriate time for delivery. I was unable to reserve a parking place through the city for this reason as they would not give me advanced notice of the projected delivery date until it was too late. This also made it difficult for me, as I was trying to coordinate delivery with my new job start as well. Considering how difficult this experience was, I will scream from the rooftops to never use IVL. Despite these issues, I had documented all the damage to my goods, and they were only willing to compensate me for $400 when realistically I experienced solidly $4,000 in damage if I were to try to replace everything they ultimately damaged. For how much I spent on this move, I was surprised that they were not more willing to keep a customer happy and build up their reputation. As a former travel nurse, I have a large community that is always moving and is constantly asking for recommendations of movers and the one thing I say is anyone but IVL! read more

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience. IVL promised that they would not use third parties but they only used third parties. The pick up crew came with a budget rented truck and smelled of weed. They made a comment to give a good tip since they had my belongings. The delivery was worse and the contractual obligations were not shared with contracted delivery movers. It was impasible to get a hold of anyone throughout the 11 day ordeal. DO NOT recommend but if you do go with them get everything in writing and a personal contact. read more

Run. Run. RUN! If you're smart, you'll go with another moving company instead, like United, National Van Lines, or American Van Lines. IVL's strategy is to give you an artificially low "binding contract" and then, on the day of the move, threaten to leave unless you sign a new document nullifying it. DO NOT be tricked by IVL's "good reviews"! They are absolutely falsified. Here's what's actually coming for you if you've made the mistake of hiring these guys. Expect International Van Lines to give you a FAKE "formal binding quote" on the phone, and swear they won't increase it. You might be suckered in by this low price. You'll seem to get good service until the minute you open your wallet. Then, expect radio silence. As moving day approaches, plan to call and email them day after day after day for weeks with no response. On the day IVL arrives, expect them to hold a metaphorical gun to your head the minute the movers arrive, and coerce you into signing a "revised binding contract" approving TWICE THE COST ($8000 or similar), on threat of turning around and leaving you high and dry. They'll know it's too late for you to back out. Then, repeat that when you're hoping to receive your stuff. You'll call them several weeks after your scheduled arrival date, begging them to respond and give you a time frame. When they finally do call, expect the person to have no idea where your stuff is and remind you that they are "super busy", and not yet past the 21-day window. Expect IVL to tell you out of the blue that they would like to charge you for a $600 shuttle to move your stuff from the truck to your house, even if you live on an average sized suburban street. They conveniently won't "realize" this little fact until they had your money and belongings. This "International Van Lines company" is truly terrible. Awful awful awful. Dishonest, inefficient, abysmal customer service, and a bunch of crooks. To call them a moving company is an insult to real moving companies. (Note: I had a good experience with exactly ONE of their customer service reps, who, when I made a lot of noise about the price increases, actually investigated and admitted that they had "made a mistake" when estimating the new cost and overcharged me a little bit. She helped "fix it" to appease me but it was still barely a drop in the bucket: all was said and done they still overcharged us thousands and thousands of dollars, and acted as if fixing their own mistake was some huge favor for us.) If you have made the mistake of hiring these people, get your finances in order NOW. Get a rainy day reserve NOW. You will be without your furniture longer than you think and if you didn't have cash in reserve like we did you would be in huge financial trouble. Get ready for the worst experience of your life. I wish I had never spoken to them. The packing company they used (Velocity) were the worst I have ever had (I have moved 6 times in last 12 years). Incompetent, dishonest, rude. And the delivery arrangements were just so awful. We were due to receive our stuff on 1 January - I chased and chased for updates and confirmation, saying I was flying from London to Denver to receive our delivery. On 29th December at nearly midnight my time I got an email saying that my stuff was still In New York and had been in storage for 10 days, they did not have a truck yet and did not know when they would deliver! Never use IVL - use a local moving company you trust and they will make arrangements for long distance delivery. read more

We have moved internationally and overseas several times and have had positive experiences. Not this time with IVL... No one showed up to do an inventory of our house despite phone calls to request this ahead of the move. They brokered the move out to a separate Canadian company without our knowledge who showed up with a truck that was way too small. We had to pick up a Uhaul last minute at a personal cost of $300 to try to fit as many items as we could and when the remaining goods STILL didn't fit the driver's suggestion was that we come back to pick them up (which would be a 500+ mile trip each way). Our lease is ending in a few days and now we have goods left behind with no path forward. I have yet to hear back with a resolution from my IVL contact despite numerous calls and emails. And when our household good got to the US/Canadian border I was held hostage by the contracted Canadian firm who would not cross the border without me paying them $16,000+. Never. Ever. Exellent sales reps, but the WORST direct movers!!! Great interactions with sale reps. Professional, competent and responsive personal and online interactions, with excellent Zoom inventory process. HOWEVER -- the actual move experience was the OPPOSITE! (1) Move team showed up in a rental truck. The lead tried many aggressive tricks to inflate the price above the contract price -- despite my actual inventory being significantly LESS than the priced inventory. He mostly tried to convince me that the cu ft of my load was more than estimated, despite IVL inventory specialists performing the cu ft estimate. he also tried to claim items were damaged when they clearly were not. He was clearly very agitated that I did not fall for his tricks and -- after heated calls with IVL corporate -- he had to agree to load AT the quoted price. He also begged for staff tips after the load was complete. (2) After the move team left, I found several screws and industrial staples on my driveway. None of these were in my moved items. I can only guess why they magically "appeared" there. (3) My delivery was several days late. Be aware that they will make you agree that they can deliver up to 3 weeks after the schedlued date. Worse, they cannot (or will not) give you any idea of where your stuff is or when it might show up. They just tell you that the driver will contact you the day prior to delivery. After my second call they stopped returning calls regarding the status of my goods. (4) My delivery was awful. The driver contacted me late one evening with only a couple hours notice, wanting to deliver starting at 8pm. He agreed to 9am the next morning. I had requested two delivery points (a storgage unit and a nearby house). Prior to signing the contract, I was told there would be no extra charge for this. However, the driver informed me it would cost an extra $200. He then showed up -- again in a rental truck -- 40 minutes late and demanded final payment before opening the truck door. Once he started unloading, I noticed that nearly EVERY box was ripped or crushed. I had purchased and personally packed new, heavy duty UHaul boxes. It appeared that they were thrown about like the old Samsonite luggage zoo commercial). Boxes clearly marked "FRAGILE" were placed on the bottom of a 3-box stack. My mother's fragile cuckoo clock -- for which I requested IVL professional packing -- arrived broken, having been packed loosely in a box with a few sheets of packing paper, with the heavy weights left to bounce around loose in the box. My kayak sustained a 1 ft long x 6 in deep dent. My mattress cover was ripped, with the mattress filthy under the rip. One of my box springs arrived in a different plastic cover than the one I provided. My like-new office chair was heavily scratched. Everything was covered in a layer of dust. The driver exclaimed that he had picked my goods out of a warehouse in the condition delivered. By the way, the one staff (not the driver) questioned me early and often (3 times) how much tip I planned to give and then wanted the tip before they unloaded at the second location. In sum, the corporate staff at IVL seemed very responsive and professional. However, the moving staff seemed like 3rd party rip-off artists. BE WARY OF THE CONTRACT CU FT and PRICE -- THEY WILL PLAY TRICKS AT THE ACTUAL MOVE TO INCREASE THE PRICE. ALSO BE AWARE THAT THEY MAY BE SUBBING OUT THE PHYSICAL MOVE TO LOW-PRICE SHYSTERS! I am perplexed at how this company recieved a decent rating. I would give IVL a ZERO if I could. In the end, I was so disgusted with my exprience that I decided not to fight them on the issues. Every stage of the process with IVL was a nightmare. They refused to provide updates beyond the maximum 21-day range that they love to remind you that you agreed to in the contract, their customer service reps were rude and unhelpful, they gave less than 24 hours' notice of the van arriving to unload after weeks of radio silence, multiple items were broken and missing, and we received another customers' items as well. Apparently we are responsible for getting the other customers' items back to them. I would recommend using ANY OTHER COMPANY out there. How they've received good reviews from BBB is beyond me (a huge scam). read more

They will put your belongings in a warehouse and hold them hostage until it's a convenient time for them to transport them...... which may be weeks or months later. The sales people are good. The pickup was fine. However, IVL swore up and down their people would make the drop-off. Nope. A United Van Lines truck showed up. The two workers got mad at driver, claimed they were lied to about work load and time. They left 1/4 way through the off load. Truck driver stayed with truck in street for next 18 hours until new workers could be found to off load. Those workers also got mad and became careless. They broke two legs and handle off brand new dresser. They lost a hand made toy chest my deceased father made for our son. They failed to tighten bolts on kitchen table. You get the picture...do NOT believe what sales people tell you. The off load was a complete disaster. read more

I'm normally not one to put a review out there unless it's extremely over the top, one way or the other. Well this was the other. I began researching moving companies for our upcoming move from Oregon to Idaho. I narrowed it down to four and finally settled on International Van Lines. The "Senior Relocation Specialist" I worked with was Justin Davis. The two biggest complaints with IVL were that they brokered other companies to actually do their moving and their price quotes were commonly lower than what you actually ended up paying. When I asked Justin why their prices were $1000 to $2000 less than others he told me it was because most other companies inflated their cubic foot estimates for the load. I asked him more than once if he was a broker and he assured me they would be using their trucks and personnel. I could write a book on this experience but I'll try to summarize as concisely as I can. 1. When the trucks showed up to load our home, the movers were wearing IVL t-shirts; however, the trucks said "King of Kings Transportation, LLC" on their doors. When I queried Justin about this he said that information "threw" him as he wasn't familiar with that particular company. King of Kings was also the company that unloaded our belongings after about 12 days of storage in a warehouse owned by a third moving company called Navy Seals Moving. 2. When they were done loading, they told me I owed them an additional $2,500 as there were more cubic feet of space used than was estimated. My cost went from $12,500 to $15,000 dollars. When I told Justin about this he promised an immediate review.....this has never happened, at least to my knowledge. 3. We were told our goods would be delivered to our new home on a Monday, the day after we took posession. They were not delivered until Wednesday, after three says of "camping" in our totally empty new house as we had to be out of our temporary rental on Sunday. The do say in their paperwork that delivery is not guaranteed on your preferred day and it could take up to 3 weeks to get your belongings. I'm not sure how you're supposed to plan temporary housing when the end date is completely unknown. Rentals just don't work that way. 4. Once I had signed on the dotted line, communication with this company was terrible. Texts, emails and phone messages went unanswered for long periods until I'd get short and impatient. Customer service was terrible and the bar should be much, much higher for $15,000! 5. There was no GPS tracking as advertised and we had no idea where our things were at any given point, if they made it to storage safely or where they were being stored, other than a warehouse in Washington. 6. I will say the guys who loaded and unloaded our belongings did a great job. They even hauled away a huge pile of shrink wrap that Justin told me would be my responsibility. Apparently one of IVL's expectations for our $15,000 was we'd be responsible for disposing of all the shrink wrap used to protect our goods. Cudos to King of Kings on that account. 7. Not sure what may have happened at the warehouse and several boxes were obviously handled pretty roughly, but we ended up with several broken dishes; although, we packed them ourselves so it's hard to say who was at fault. There was never any followup from IVL after the fact to see how the move went; although, by then, they probably already knew. I haven't moved a lot in my life, and never long distance, but this was a really bad experience that I'll not repeat. It probably would have ultimately been less expensive and frustrating to have just sold everything with our home and started over! read more

Missing items/boxes. Reimbursement process is cumbersome and does not cover anywhere close to the true value of the items. Was told this rarely happens, but I received items that don't belong to me and they haven't even tried to recover them. While pick up was smooth, the drop off team completely ghosted us for over a week without providing any information on when they would drop off our stuff, what the notification procedure was, or when they could actually provide us with an estimate on delivery. If I could give a 0 stars I would. I initially had 2 walk throughs with the company and on moving day-was told that it would cost an additional 1k-completely unprofessional given they are the one visualizing the house and were responsible for the initial quote. I asked several times during the itemization process if an additional truck would be needed for the amount of stuff we had and was told it wouldn't be necessary. Day of the move, they forgot many items and when I called to tell the company that-they then blamed me for not having an additional truck. I asked to escalate to a manager who never called me back. I then sent several emails and calls that were ignored or rudely responded to. My moving account manager Danisha was also extremely unpleasant. Not only was the behind the scenes disastrous, but multiple high end items were also broken during the move. DO NOT go with IVL. read more
